We visited the cannery on Canada 150 special offer period. Even tourist are free entry. The museum has great explanation to introduce Canadian early immigration and fishery history. The old production line is also clear demonstrated.

Learned a lot, very informative relevant history .The wages difference how the Chinese were payed the lowest and young children 8 years old were put to work and paid 10 cents a day. The most fascinating part was the ingenuity used to make the machines which are still working.

We had free entry with the national park pass and it was an interesting and informative site. We spent close to an hour within and exhibits were described and accompanying videos helped to give a good picture of the entire operation.

Great museum to visit. We arrived on a Saturday just at opening time. So we had a guide tour us around. She provided a lot of information about the history of the area. Recommended for any one visiting Steveston.

Accurate, but somewhat pro-industry-biased, historical walkthrough of the dawn and fall of the BC salmon and related fishing industry. Includes hands on with the actual machines, how the workers lived, and where they came from.

The lessons presented from the early 1900's fishery collapse are not being applied today given BC's circa 2017 near collapse of the sockeye Salmon.

Canning is actually pretty interesting it turns out.

The cannery has cool exhibits about the development of canning as a process, the machinery involved, and how this ties into ecological and environmental issues. Admittedly the environmental side could be better. While there is some mention of racial issues, lile Japanese workers around WW2 and Indigenous peoples, Ibfelt these were not as fully addressed as they could be. There is also a missed opportunity to talk about labour automation and changes in industrialization, and how that impacts communities. But overall a pretty entertaining little historical site.

If you like sea food there is a short segment of boardwalk right next door to the East with restaurants and fresh sea food being sold. Some of the shops are more tourist-trap kinds of places though.

Went there last Monday, and was honestly impressed with this historic site. It's interesting to see in close-up what factories (or canneries) were like and how they worked, plus the site displayed information about fishing and underwater life in general. Definitely would come back again next year!

The predecessor is a cannery that has been in business for nearly 100 years. Most of the machines for making canned salmon are completely preserved inside, and the work scene of workers handling salmon is vividly restored. It is very historical. You can bring your children to learn about the history of Canadian West Coast fishing in the last century.

Went for a craft fair, it wasn t very good but the gift shop had lots of lovely things for purchase and I did! Staff was extremely friendly and outgoing. The views around the cannery are just amazing! Spent a few hours at Steveston. It s one of my favourite places

It surprised me how big the place is. We visited during Christmas and it's quiet. There is a kid corner with lots of kids stuff and kids role play clothes. Very intriguing place. Glad we stopped by and spent 2 hours here. Only thing is that the place tends to be really freezing during winter. Be sure to wear coat before entering.

We came here for the Easter thing but we came away learning about fish and the cannery. It s a relatively small museum but it s neat.

My ONLY suggestion and REQUEST is if you have loose candies maybe use a ziplock bag instead of these cheap bags where glitter can be imprinted on the loose candies. I feel it isn t as sanitary because the bags aren t really sealed.

Very interesting tour and free to visit this year for Canada's 150th anniversary! You might think that a cannery museum might not have much to offer, but, the exhibits are very interesting and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable.

I think everyone should pay a visit at least once if not more, the gift shop has some really nice ideas for all occasions. Yes there are touristy items. But on saying this, these are not the typical tacky items. There are some very nice local indiginous items from prints to scarf's. Have a look in the museum ! Learn some history !

We opted to join the guided tour which lasted for 45 min. It was very informative and our guide was knowledgeable and approachable. We we're pressed for time so didn't spend as much time as we would've liked on the herring refinement part of the museum. I would definitely recommend bringing your out of town friends to this place. It is right by Steveston Pier which has great photo ops and many quaint stores to shop at.

This was a surprising gem. We loved the machinery and architecture and our 3 year old was captivated by all the fish and displays.

Sadly though I assumed since it was indoors this would be a good place to go on a winter weekend. But the building is not heated and I was so cold I couldn t really enjoy it as much as I d like. Wish I knew before we came.

We games to Steveston on the last day of pure Canada holiday and loved the historical feel of the place and the fishing boats selling their produce in the harbour. The old processing and canning factory has been preserved beautifully, and on this particular day had free entry and was full of pirates! (Talk like a pirate day). I found it quite fascinating, there were good exhibits to entertain children and a good shop.

I finally figured out how they produce that expensive fish oil. Now I'm thinking why they charge so much for some fish oil when it is literally pressed out ofleftover garbage that can't be put in cans.

A fun adventure for the family. During Canada's 150 birthday year it's free entry! It's in beautiful historic steveston village. Go for a scenic walk along the boardwalk and check out the local fair. There is a farmer's market within the cannery on Sundays!

It's really a great place to learn about the history of Steveston as a center of the cannery and fishing business. It's worth the entrance fee and you'll learn and experience a lot.

Tip: It's cold inside so make sure you're prepared for that.
