Love this place. I've come here a few times over the years and it always impresses me with the detail and unique history in this area. If you are looking to explore outside the usual Vancouver sights this is one not to be missed. Dress warm in the winter as it's not heated outside the gift shop! But don't let that hold you back from enjoying the exhibits.

It's where one of the largest finishing canneries in Canada was located and the historical significance of immigrant population working in the fisheries for those jobs that many people didn't want.

Interesting to see the cannery line. Although they state it's a representation of what it looked like. The actual gear was all sold off and when they created the museum they got machines from other canneries and put it together. You still get an idea of the process that was in place back in the day though.

My daughter enjoyed the tours and the blind taste test.

I had a great time wandering around the Cannery. It reminds me of the old cannery in Monterey California that I went to back in the late 60s. I'm glad to see some history is being preserved.

Great place to visit and learn a bit about the history of Steveston village. We took a guide tour which was really helpful to hear some explanation of the history of things. Lots to see. Very cold since it's over top of the river but they do offer complimentary jackets to borrow. Kids were all free.

Cool museum, really informative and interesting BUT why was it so cold inside?!
They don't heat the place so if you go in winter, you'll need to bundle up... Especially since you're just standing around looking at things, it's hard to keep warm.

Very interesting museum, especially if you take one of the walking tours. Offers a great perspective of the cannery business in the 1900s and how it played a key part of BC's economy and the role of immigrant workers.

Great place to bring the family for the day. There are a lot of cool old things and machines to see and learn about from the museum. The guides are great and very knowledgeable about the history of this place. My kid had fun. Just heads up, there is no heat inside the museum, its as cold as the temperature outside. Came here winter time.

A fun knowledgeable place. My son and I had a blast, from snagging the fish and dumping them into the bins to walk through the whole canning process. Super friendly and wise volunteers make this historic place well worth the visit. Located in Steveston, just moments a away from the heart of the village. So much food, coffee/tea and ice cream choices makes it quite an enjoyable get away for the day! The museum is right in the water so do bring a jacket, it can get quite chilly in there. If you plan on walking around village the wind off the water is again chilly. Come prepared

I love industrial machinery and old factory that's refurbished to a modern usage. But I love the most that this old cannery is now a dedicated museum to the history of how much fishery and canning of the fish was done in this particular part of Canada. When you walk in, you will pay for admission and you are free to explore the whole museum or wait for specific tour from a very awesome tour guide name Gary. The two tours I did was the general tour where Gary talked about the history of the fishery and then comes the cannery in this part of British Columbia and then goes in details on the factory line and then the changes from man power to automated machinery power.

Because this cannery is built over the water, you can feel the coolness from below and the machines are kept in a mint condition that it will actually still runs (at a 10th of the speed). Gary goes in details about the class system and not holding back what really happened in the history of this area, which is good because we all have the rights to know the truth. One of the thing I love about this museum is that there's a lot of interactive with things to explore for kids and adults a-like. Each tour is approximately about 1 hour and during the machinery tour (where they turn on the canning line to show you how it actually moves), they would actually put a lid on an empty can to give to (usually kids) a souvenir to take home with.

I have learned quite a bit from this museum visit and had a great time just being inside as well. For anyone and everyone who's visiting Steveston Village, you have to stop by Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site and take a look, I promise you will not regret it.

Love this place for it's awesome tour, about the factories, stories about workers losing fingers, how industrialization helped the factories, you'll be amazed by how complicated the canning process is! how canning works! Interesting stories about early Chinese immigrants too! Must visit!

This was a great find, never knew this was there, very interesting, very well done and preserved and all for FREE. Would highly recommend to anyone and everyone. It was so informational and offered many things we were not aware of.

We just happened to be walking around Steveston, and a sandwich board on the pathway outside the Gulf of Georgia Cannery reminded us that admission was free for Canada 150. The building has always looked like a jewel on the Steveston waterfront, so we thought we would have a peek and get out of the sun for a bit.

We ended up at the very beginning of a tour of the Cannery's processing area. Very informative and fun. We were alongside machinery that wasn't behind Plexiglas or velvet ropes while on the tour. We were encouraged not to touch the machinery, and we could get close up and see from all angles.

Note: Respect the rules. It would be a shame if the museum needed to make changes and force people to be further away from the machinery.

One of the more impressive parts of the tour was how it was explained to us the involvement of First Nations and Asians. The cannery once held low regard, and was insensitive to these people. The tour guide didn't shy away from the dark history, or explaining how different society was at the time. It really made me think about how in the last hundred years, Canada has gained a reputation of being inclusive to all.

Bravo on the Canada 150 celebration. It has opened the door for many of us that struggle with knowing the true Canadian identity.

It is an alright museum, as it does clearly demonstrate what the robust Steveston fishing and canning industry was like back in the day. However, it is rather small, so it is not worth a trip to it alone. One must be prepared for a really musty smell too. Some may like that "authentic" smell, but it is a turn off for me.

Interesting place to visit. Admission was free this year because of Canada 150, but if you pay a little for the guided tour the tour guide will explain the cannery better. Many interesting artifacts and a good place to visit overall. The museum shows the history of canneries in British Columbia, as well as the working conditions of workers at the cannery.

Not a bad little local history museum, but very tightly focused, so if you're not into industrial machinery, the life cycles of fish, or food processing assembly lines, you may not find much of interest. Could spend 30 min to 2 hrs depending on your attention to detail or if you have small children that want to engage with interactive displays. Would have liked to see a bit more on the community surrounding/supporting the cannery, and other peoples represented than the First Nations - there were significant Asian people groups involved in early Steveston and the fishing community...

I stopped in to the Gulf of Georgia Cannery because admission is free throughout 2017. A guided tour was starting just as I arrived. The tour was about 45 minutes and well worth the time as it provided an interesting overview of the canning process and the history of the canning industry in BC. As an added benefit, the cannery is nice and cool because of its position over the river. If you go, I suggest that you time your visit to coincide with one of the free guided tours.

A very historical site in the fishing industry. This site was used to be the place where fishermen unload their fishes for processing and canning. There is no more fishy smell but once you step inside the museum there is an "old building" odor lingering around. Visitors can see the machines the fish processing plant used in the olden days and as late as the 70s and probably in the 80s. Had a wonderful tour with Wilfred. Thanks for the explanation of each fish processing stage.

We were told it would be a good place for kids. I think it's a great place for junior high kids to go on field trips but for families with young children this might be too boring. We thought that our kids might like seeing the machines that make cans but they ended up falling asleep and we had to leave early. The tour guide was nice and we adults did enjoy learning about how they canned the fish.

Historic Canadian site. Can here on free admission weekend with my two kids. Thinking that they would just walk thru this place quickly and head on thru to the park. We ended up staying for 1 hour 45 minutes. They did an activity book the curators gave them and they were really interested in the demonstrations of how salmon was processed and canned. The kids liked it so much they invited their friends to come the next day. They all walked away learning how salmon was processed and canned. The curators here are very friendly and informative. Recommend stop if you are in Stevenson.

This is a good day trip and excellent rainy day outing in Richmond. It was a huge cannery. I t has been restored and preserved in a way that details the history of the area. There isa clear explanation of the methods used to can fish. Once a month there is market that's very interesting.
