Grill Steak & Seafood Restaurant, Melbourne, Australia Review

The kangaroo meat is hard and acidic. Beef stew is tender and delicious, but it is a bit greasy after eating. The service staff is very enthusiastic.

Thick & juicy T-bone, delicious fillet and nice dessert.

I usually don't give a One Star, but in this case..that is what this place deserves.

Not sure what was going on when we arrived early for our reservations, but some dude standing out front in the alley way asking people in..maybe it was begging..but anyway...when I told him we had reservations he seemed to be shocked. Then he asked for what name the reservation was under. I told him and he pointed at two tables in the Alley to choose from...both were very small for a party of 4. Not sure why we were not offered an indoor table.

We took the table with the most room from the other tables..which was not much. It was two tables pulled together..both looked like they had been through several bar fights. Plus they were on the Cobblestone brick alley making the tables wobble so much the water glasses almost fell off.

We got settled in and here comes the waiter. Now, I could tell once I opened my mouth to greet him with my native Texas voice he seemed to turn a little sour towards my asking him how he was doing.

From there on..it was downhill. I asked what Australian Pino Niro he recommended. He pointed to one on the list. I thought I was making it easy by telling him that his selection would work...but no..he just seemed to be put off.

I asked to order an appetizer and again..in a rough voice ..he asked.."You want it before or with the meal?" I told him before and we will order while he turned in the order for the appetizer. Once again..seemed to be put out.

Moving on. We order our meal..a Rib Eye Grass Fed steak..a filet mignon 30 day aged...a Kangaroo steak and a kid's order of Fish and Chips. Kids go their soft drinks. All of the steaks were ordered Medium.

The waiter came by before the meal was delivered and I asked if we could get bread for the table...once again..with a snappy attitude he asked.."OK, what kind of bread do you want? Fresh or Garlic? You want it now or with the Food?" I politely said..Fresh bread and bring it with the meal. He quickly left..and we never saw him again.

About 15 minutes went by when a crew of people delivered our meals. We all dug in..My Rib Eye was OK...a little small..but good. The Filet Mignon that was order was sub-Par..probably should have been sent back..but it was eaten anyway. The Kangaroo was the star of the table with the kids Fish and Chips less than desirable...chips OK..the fish just tasted weird.

We finished up and sat waiting for the check. Never saw the waiter again. We sat there for 20 minutes before a lady came by to take the dishes off the table when we asked her if we could get the check. Her response was..."if you are paying with credit card you pay you bill inside."

Wonder where you were to go to paid the bill with Cash?

Really..was anyone going to tell us that we had to pay at the register???

Not a place I'll go back to and spend that kind of money for OK food. Since everyone around us was also treated this way I don't think this place is going to make.

Used for dinner. We had various dishes such as beef, kangaroo, lamb and white fish, all of which were delicious.

I did not get as tired as I thought and it was delicious. It was just a sour flavor, but it was also good.

I ate kangaroo meat steak and it was very good!

Went on a Saturday nite for tea with my partner we ordered the hot and cold seafood Platter disappointing for the price we paid.. Mussels weren't cleaned properly and still had beards on them... Salmon was oily and worse of all undercooked prawns... Not happy when I complained all we got was a sorry and the surcharge taken off our bill... Very disappointing won't be back

Food is great. Tried the kangaroo meat dish. Great presentation but the meat is barely warm. Not sure if that means to be like that.

Love the enegergy and but Could have given 5 star review if the servants there can just slow down. Rushing in and out beween tables and clearing tables make us felt we need to hurry up and eat and get out. Not nice. Plus, Rushing around causes accidents. One of the staff tripped over and smashed a few plates. Now you can get the picture of eating in that atomoshere. Not a criticism but just a suggestion.

Lovely atmosphere but the food was really bad ! The quality of the meet was terrible, the steaks were over cooked, the salad was dry and flavourless, the fries were obviously cooked along with fish as this was what they tasted like....very disappointing

The best pasta I've eaten so far on this trip. I was in Sydney and now in Melbourne ... and we found it by accident.

Garlic prawns and Wagyu burguer were delicious!! Service was good.

Nice place to sit in the sun and have lunch. In the middle of Hardware Lane where there is lots of choice. It was busy, so decided to have a try. Had the pork ribs and they were so succulent that the meat just fell off the bone. Very rich and delicious. The eggplant spaghetti was overly rich. Service was professional.

He tells him to keep waiting without saying he is sorry for missing food orders.

Extremely poor experience. Promised special offers comes with all sorts of special conditions after they got you to sit down at a VERY small table. Service staff were rude. Food was not worth a quarter of the price charged. I had the worst pork ribs of my life - overcooked, chewy, dry and covered in KETCHUP???? Only tasty bit was the overpriced James Boag. Avoid this place like the plague - Old man at the front not too be trusted.

There aren't many shops offering kangaroo steaks in Melbourne, so I was asked by a local resident samurai. Kangaroo fillets are soft and recommended. In addition, the tomato sauce simmer of shellfish similar to mussels was also delicious. Craft beer's Little Creatures are light and easy to drink.

Fantastic place to come for brunch on a nice day. The outdoor seating is nice. Food was good and the staff tried to accommodate to dietary preferences. Free coffee was nice. That made up for the price of the food, which was a bit on the expensive side.

Jauew was fantastic and the steak was to die for. Best steak I've had out apart from my own cook.

This place was a rollercoaster of questionable service and funny moments. We had a rocky table, a cup of water spilled across the table, a lemonade forgotten and a waiter whisper "we have no forks" to us from under the table. It was funny and a memorable evening. Carbonara was good!

Pleasantly surprised ... good Italian food and a free glass of wine .

Food: From reading some of the other reviews, I think I made a lucky choice when visiting Grill Steak Seafood. I had the lamb shanks and they were beautiful. Two huge pieces of lamb, which just fell off the bone in a flavoursome rich sauce.

Atmosphere/service: Both were fine, the restaurant decor was pleasant, it seems a little newer than some other nearby restaurants. Service was efficient.

Would I recommend it: My lamb shanks were beautiful and actually very good value for the size, so from my personal experience, yes. However, having seen some of the other meals which were brought out, all meals are not that generous, and look a little overpriced.

Appetizer platter was awesome. Kebab juicy, the crumbed olives delightful and the calamari light. The barramundi yumz but the kangaroo steak was a let down. Should not have cut up the steak before serving.

The customer and the taste of the first one were good. Finally finished eating and finally brought Bill's request for about 3 times, but finally brought it, but I was in trouble because I was in a hurry. During that time I heard the drink order many times lol

all my years i have never had an experience like this before, booked earlier and preordered weeks in advanced. even called on the day to check that my preorder is done and advise will be on a tight 2 hour lunch and wanted the food out to have a nice xmas lunch with the team.
What unfolded was got there and entre came out before finger food platter. then had to wait over an hour for our main. kept askin where the food was kept getting told in 10mins.

then omg the mains came out, and everyones mains were incorrect cooked or wasnt what they preordered, oh it gets better my manager of all fn people gets his steak with a heart beat and wrong sauce, not only he was last and watching everyone eat he then had to send it back and wait again.

they apologised to late and gave free drinks but it was too late

we had to cancel the desserts as we were out of time, and the fact that they werent aware of my preorder was amazing even though over the phone i was assured everything will be ok.

i was so embarrased and couldnt believe even getting really stalled bruchetta ffs.

Beautiful food , great service and taking in the atmosphere of Hardware lane.

Popped in without a referral because the restaurant appeared busier than others in Hardware Lane. Today is Sunday however; maybe it's different on weekdays. Anyway that method of choosing worked and we had a really enjoyable meal. There was nothing special about our selections but everything was made to a high standard and delicious. And reasonable!

Loved this place. The service is good, though I feel like some people who are a little more reserved will be intimidated by the over-friendliness of the staff. The steak was great, and for good price.

We had the turf and surf tower and mixed meat tower between 4 of us and calamari for entree. They were delicious and including soft drinks, alcoholic drinks and a wagyu burger too, everything for less than $300. I feel like these are reasonable given the amount of food and variety that were served too

This is a great find in Hardware Lane. The food is fresh and tasty. The service is top notch. Outside dining is a great place to people watch as they pass through. Been many times and tried most of the dishes on the menu. Can't fault any of them. Highly recommended.

Totally recommend this restaurant if you wanna have great meals with perfect atmosphere, and wine and food are perfect!

Great service. Not the BEST seafood linguine I've ever had, but still pretty good. We had a larger table in the more peaceful side dining room.

The restaurant in this restaurant is average. I ordered 5 minutes cooked steak, but when he came up, the meal was almost fully cooked. The meal itself was about 3 stars, but the service attitude was really dull, oppressive and uncomfortable. First of all When we arrived at the restaurant, the waiter semi-mandatory let us sit outdoors. Although there was a heater outside, but I wanted to sit in, and asked the waiter if we could sit indoors, the waiter actually asked why I have to sit indoors (probably asked 3 times), and I have always emphasized that the atmosphere outside is good. In short, we are not allowed to sit indoors, and come again, because we are sitting outdoors, so we can just see the waiter harassing passersby while pulling passengers. I think it's normal for the restaurant to pull customers, but it is not very comfortable to harass passers-by. When one group of guests pass by, the waiter touches his shopping bag and asks him what to put in it, which is too much.

Great friendly place to eat, with good incentives for people walking by, alfresco dining. Reasonable prices and good portions, live music in the street and happy atmosphere. Only downfall was only one ladies toilet out of action and has been for a while otherwise 5 stars

I liked the food! The eye fillet was big (300g) and properly cooked, the chips were nice (and I never like chips), the garlic bread was great, the milkshake was great too!

The Barramundi fillet wasn't bad either.

The Wagyu Beef Burger was lovely and the Beef Cheeks melted in the mouth. A 3 piece jazz band played close by which topped it all off perfectly.. (great work on the Dave Brubeck song guys). Also liked the guys out front sprucing for business, a free drink with my meal... sure, thank you! A1.

Amazing service, child friendly with highchairs and kids menu, steak was 10/10 and ravioli was the best iv ever had.

One of the must-see restaurants. Fresh ingredients. Great value. Boss also automatically discounts. The most surprise is the day. Takeaway oysters give us 10% off.

A group of 4 of us went for dinner on NYE, without a booking and were accommodated despite how busy they were.
Our waiter (Connor) was professional, attentive, friendly and very funny. Food was very good and location outside is buzzing in the alleyway.
Would highly recommend and will go again.

We ordered T-bone (medium-rare is suggested as it's like medium in my experience) and it's good! Really delicious steak!!

Seafood risotto is also good! A bit sour and thick flavor. Seafood is fresh!

Nice food, decent service and good prices... but any business on Hardware Lane can sometimes be a bit "pushy" as you walk past, to try and get your business... so see if you can score a few free coffee's ;-)

Nothing ground breaking on the menu but the food was cooked as it should. I had the lamb cutlets which was cooked medium rare as ordered. The service was prompt and friendly.

Dishonest and scam. I went there with my Chinese friends. They offered us the Chinese version of the menu and insisted to take the English menus back. We kept a few and discovered there is a price difference between the Chinese version and English version. Very dishonest.

Great sell job by the guy at front but, food if average, you have to pay for dryed up bread and you get no butter. I had to ask two waiters and wait 10 minutes for another waiter to get the bill. A average quick bite place.
