Please be aware that al lot of places like the reptiles are closed. You cannot get close to see the parrots or the monkeys. The lions and the tasmanian devils along with a lot of other animals were moved and the exhibitions were closed. All the photo booths are closed. The monkey hut was closed. We came at 3 pm and many animals were hidden inside their enclosures. Over all I feel like we were given 50% of the zoo experience but the prices were the same. Definitely come early in the day although the tickets for those times sell out fast. Coming late really seems like a waste of money.

I used to love going around the zoo, but for the last couple of years, my focus has been elephants, feeding giraffes and the merry-go-round, ice cream and then usually out the door. This is the combo of having 3 y.o. twins and hot days. Great place for my daughters and as they get older, I look forward to spending more time in the zoo with them.

I don't want to take away from the time, effort and resources expended to provide this experience for thousands/millions of visitors BUT I found this zoo to be pretty sad when compared to San Diego Zoo and Bronx Zoo. I visited during the holiday season and was underwhelmed by the lighting experience BUT again, I appreciate the effort.

Went on a Sunday, was very crowded. Almost none of the visitors spoke English, at times I forgot that I was in the USA... not really the park's problem, but you can imagine what the majority demographic was (Raiders hats everywhere). There were many kids that weren't being watched by their parents, constantly running off and making noise, hanging off the glass and rails at the exhibits, to the point of park security forcing them to come down with the parents nowhere to be found. The park grounds were filthy, there was trash littered along the sides of the pathways and no park attendants were cleaning it up. There were disrespectful morons trying to feed Giraffe's reeds and other random branches and leaves pulled off of the bushes along the walkways, despite the warning signs not to feed them. The exhibits themselves seemed small and depressing, particularly the Bear, Lion, Hippo, and especially the Giant Sea Otter exhibit... it was pathetic. Coming from the SD Zoo and the Safari Park, the animal enclosures were paltry and neglected. With all of the sponsors plastered everywhere such as Honda, 99 Cents store, and so on, you would think there would be some TLC regarding the exhibits and park grounds... I guess for the price it was decent at $19, but I doubt I will come here again.

Although a rainy day, we went to the zoo for a birthday party. What a great party! The zoo catered a terrific meal and the curators were informed and friendly!!!!! Great place to visit and to gather with friends and family.

My daughter's favorite place to go. We got the family pass and visit every other month when we have nothing to do. Sometimes they have special events, usually during holidays that are great for the kids. We like to go early when they open when it's not too overcrowded, visit our favorite animals, and then leave when it starts to crowd and get hot. Parking is not so great when you arrive late, so be sure to get there early if you want free parking. Otherwise, they have a preferred parking which is only a few bucks. This was my girls in March. They had an event going on (forgot what it was).

Such a relaxing place. The food is great. The refillable cups are such a good deal. The bathrooms are always clean. The tram is a senior delight smelling all the botanicals. Love the zoo.

We loved this zoo! This was the 3rd zoo we've ever been to and its HUGE! The workers care, they were genuinely friendly to us, the park was very clean and not busy for a Sunday morning. They had hundreds of different species from snakes and lizards to tigers and lions. Anyone visiting the LA area should come here local or tourist, it's a place for both.

The zoo is divided up by countries or continents. Asian elephants, Australian kangaroos and koalas etc. It is a little confusing to navigate, with all the twists and turns, but there are maps scattered around the zoo. I have not eaten at any of the restaurants there, so I can't comment on those, but there is a nice playground area with picnic tables to eat at. There are even wild peacocks wandering around.

Really cool zoo. Took my brother and some other cousins with us over the weekend. A few of the exhibits were closed, so that was a little disappointing. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes because there is a lot of walking involved.

Overall a great experience! My wife found a Groupon deal and we actually paid like $16 each for the tickets. If you really want to explore the whole zoo, I'd say it would take you about 5 to 6 hours. Food is not best but they do sell beer so that evens out the situation (at least for me). Aviary is a must.

It's really great, if u want to get a tan, jk; the 1st time me and my sister went, it was so hot that when we got to our car, it was 94 degrees; i like looking and petting the animals there like the squirrels, llamas, i think or sheep or goats, seals or sea otters, and birds; wish i could've had more time to look around and see what else there was

Our first time here. It's a very big zoo. Lots of things to seem Alot of area to walk through. If you have children I recommend bringing a stroller and some drinks. The drinks and bottled juices are pretty expensive $7 for bottled water and even a children's size sandwich meal is $7.99 was very small. Prices are more expensive then the fair. When we went the gorillas wasn't out and there was alot of up hill walking as well. Over all it was a big size zoo with a jungle looking feel to it and they set up areas to make it look realistic. There wasn't many benches though to seat and take brakes. I was a nice zoo and helpful zoo workers there to help.

Its fun for the kids. For one of the largest cities in the US I expected more. Its very dated and the animals are in small enclosures except for the Elephants. The food is pricy and not even as good as McDonald's. My wife found a hair in her salad. I did get a year membership for my family though because, like I said, its fun for the kids.

I guess living in San Diego for many years you get spoiled with a world class zoo but with a large metropolitan city like LA you d figured that they d have a better facility (the Columbus Ohio zoo is better and it s a much smaller city).
Pretty easy walking. The uphill portions aren t extreme but are enough to give you some good exercise. The map is useful and signage is plenty. There are lots of dining options and the prices aren t crazy high (pretty reasonable as compared to out in town).
The sight lines for small kids aren t good (mine are 5 and tall and often had difficulties seeing over fences). The children s play park was a nice place to take a break while the kiddos have fun.
Overall everything could use some updating.

It is a very good place to go with the family, it is a bit tired because the place is large but it is a combination of flora and fauna that leave you a very good experience. And the prices are affordable

My experience here was ok. They have definitely renovated a lot and it is a good place to visit if you're in the area and don't want to spend Disneyland prices on a day out with the family. A lot of their staff members don't really seem too thrilled to help, although there were a few that were really bubbly and welcoming. The place was clean and somewhat easy to navigate. My only concern is how poorly fed and maintained some of the animals looked. Shouldn't more of the park's money go towards adequately keeping up with the nutrition and appearance of the animals, not just the park itself?

The only reason why this Zoo isn t getting 5 stars is because there was no coffee or monsters sold there and i had to explore the whole Zoo with out any caffeine. Besides that the Zoo was great, clean, had many monkeys .
