This was our fifth trip to Egypt, besides we often go on holiday abroad. As for the hotel, it was, even for Egyptian conditions, very exploited and full of bugs (apparently it is about to undergo renovation). As far as dropping door handles, wrinkling bathroom door, uninterrupted dripping water, falling plaster on the balcony wall, the problem of drainage in the tub, etc. did not bother so much (we immediately assumed that we would not spend too much time in the room and we did not even fight for a change the room was so spoiled by the image of the hotel, the tiling in the pools, the deckchairs, the chairs soiled and in poor condition, the unlit garden at night compared to other neighboring hotels. Nice service, although it became nicer and even more helpful after the tip. The hotel in 98% has tourists from an elderly German, so the hotel was quiet without major animations, the loud music during the show at the reception in the evenings was immediately reported by older tourists. Lack of 100% of the obstruction caused free sunbeds on both the beach and swimming pools, the possibility of booking an alternative restaurant from the walk. To sum up, we are happy with the trip because we were not disappointed by the sunshine, the attractive price was also an asset.

This is far from a 5* hotel, at best a 3*. The rooms and facilities, including the pool are not well maintained. I showered in the bath with a heavily limscaled shower head, I would not have ran a bath in the slightly rusting tub! The bins were broken with no inner bag. The toilet paper was very budget. The pool was not very inviting having many tiles missing from the bottom.
The staff were not 5*! We were constantly asked for tips before getting service. We had to ask multiple times to get anything. Staff would open and walk into our rooms without knocking we had to start using the latch in fear of staff just walking in! It was a big let down as its advertised as a 5* resort. The food was quite average, though there were many restaurants, the only one that had decent food was the Lebanese. Cakes were all dry.
There were 11 of us in 6 rooms who all had the same bad experience. However they do pay more attention once you make a complaint but nothing can be done on the spot about the lack of upkeep.
Wouldn't visit here again.

This place looks nice from the outside but inside is pretty shoddy. No aircon In the food hall so your sweating whilst eating and they are well skimpy on portion sizes. On the whole, I am very happy with the vacation, except that you are cleared up too quickly at the reception, which you do not immediately understand, because the hotel and the associated restaurants are on a huge area.
There is a restaurant where you can get everything for free as a buffet.

First of all. 1 star because of the well-kept area (outside without pool). 2 star because of a large selection of food.
For those who do not have high demands on the room. It is absolutely worth it. Very large complex, lots of space, well-kept condition of the green areas. But! : DISASTER concerning the room. ALL ROOMS! Every bathtub looks bad and is absolutely not hygienic. All bathrooms have old fittings. Mold on the wall (in the first room ...!) After the first 30 minutes, we knew ... Get out and look for another room. Then things really went off, we got into the (new) room, the bathroom ... Cracked paint in the tub, brown, torn out fittings. The tub should be repaired on request.
Out in the morning at 8 in the afternoon back to the room and first get a shock from the chemistry. The bathtub was actually painted during our stay (not even properly) everything stank of chemicals or solvents. Then it was enough for us. Complaint by email to eti, with pictures of mold on the walls, drinkable mini bar and and and.
Approx. 2 hours later I received an email from the organizer that was passed on to the tour guide on site. Everything else is unnecessary to write for the hotel and the situation.
The end of the conclusion: booked for a fee at the Grand makadi spa hotel and very satisfied. They are worlds! If something like that happens to someone too. Talk to the organizer and tour guide. And rebooks! Eti is very helpful and tries a lot. So don't let your vacation be ruined. The hotel is guaranteed to do it. PS:

We were there from 19-26.01.2020. So the facility was great, everything in very good. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the staff. Very jostling, could not rest a minute, every 30 minutes at the door ring (water, towel change, always just after a tip begging. Whether I went out of the Do Not Disturb sign anyway you just burst into the room. I was really pissed off. For me, it will never be a travel destination in my life to Egypt. The Grand Makadi is one of the walled and adjacent to desert and sea hotel complex "Red Sea resort".
The complex is very well maintained for Egyptian standards. The beach is clean and the coral reef is fantastic. The dishes in the restaurants and bars are very delicious (as a vegetarian I am always full).
If you have adjusted to the lifestyle of the local employees after a short time, it can be a great holiday. The whole area looks unnatural, since it was built especially for tourists and so you get nothing of the actual beauty of the country. Therefore only 4 stars. For reading books or hardcore sunbathing perfect.

Gastrointestinal problems, bad and unfriendly staff, dirty rooms, although all inclusive booked you have to pay for much. Freshly grilled with meals 5 Eur a person, Smothies by the pool 2,50 Euro, BBQ on the beach 12 Eur a person, Beach Party 8 Eur a person !! These are just a few examples! Without tipping in the hotel nothing and should it not the expectations of the staff will be complained!
The pool is missing many tiles, the beach if you can call it is full of stones. Bathing without shoes not possible!
The food in buffet form is not to enjoy and very monotonous! For breakfast always the same and hardly choice. The food a la carte was much better! But a table you do not get without reservation.

The downer are the travel agencies. They just ask too much. Was there with my daughter, my husband died. He would have enjoyed this stay. This property is beautiful. NO 5 star hotel or not the 5 stars. At the hotel entrance the 5 star has already been removed and there are only 4 left, whether this happened from angry tourists or from the Egyptian tourism association, we can't say, but from our point of view 4 stars are still too many.
But let's start at the beginning ...
When we arrived at the hotel, the horror began, we had to wait about 30 minutes at the empty reception before it came to check-in. During this time we were not offered any drinks and we weren't allowed to get any. The waiters didn't give us anything because we didn't have a ribbon.
After several requests when we could move into our room, we were put off again and again. And as already written the reception was empty.
When we were finally approached by the receptionist after 30 minutes, we were asked whether we would rather use the much nicer junior suit instead of the room we had booked. Of course we were impressed by this at first, but when we were asked to fill out a slip for an upgrade for the rooms, the receptionist wanted 50 for each room. Of course, we first denied this and when we pointed out that the slip was free upgrade, he got angry. After a long discussion, he gave us the slightly larger rooms.
A total of another 30 minutes had passed.
Then we got the ribbon and we can finally get something to drink, we thought ... We were first told at which bar we can get something to drink and which one we have to pay despite all inclusive. Of course, the bars we had to pay at predominated.
Ok, we thought, first to the room ... When we arrived we got another shock.
Error in the first room:
Only 3 lamps were on, so the very dark room was even darker.
The coating came off in the bathtub and there was a risk of injury (especially for a baby).
The air conditioning was very, very loud and you couldn't regulate it either on (very cold) or off (very warm) which was not possible with the baby, especially since it hummed very loudly even if you switched it off.
The minibar was broken and didn't cool, and it was empty. When we asked we were told that the minibar was not included in the all inclusive! (more on this problem later)
The television set was an old tube TV with which one could not receive a single channel.
There was mold on the bathtub tiles in the bathroom, which is very unhygienic and hazardous to the baby's health.
The pool itself should have been renovated a year ago, but tiles are missing everywhere, which means a considerable risk of injury.
Let's get to the problem with the all inclusive offer:
We have a 9 month old baby with us and we haven't been given any bottled water to make formula or anything like that. We had to do this for 1 per bottle
Buy a kiosk. Neither for the baby nor for us to brush our teeth.
The food offer was a joke, to say the least! We have never seen such a small buffet. The waiters were only interested in tips and if you weren't given tips, like us, you wouldn't get any drinks at dinner. We had to go to the bar and get drinks ourselves. We have never experienced anything like this in any vacation. And certainly not in a 5 star hotel!
The breakfast buffet was like the evening buffet a joke, no sausage and the fruit was already brown. The dining room wasn't air-conditioned either, so you had to sit outside. It was very noisy outside because Habderkern were working on a fountain.
We decided to change hotels in the evening.
The hotel change cost us 260
but it doesn't matter.
So by and large we are more than disappointed with the Grand Markadi. It was neither a 5 star hotel, nor family friendly, nor an all inclusive hotel.

Direct sea access, you have several freshwater pools to choose from. Tips should be given as people earn little and you are given preferential treatment. I took 1 and 5 dollar bills with me just for tips. Coins are worthless because they cannot be changed !!!
I was there from October 18th to 25th, 30 degrees during the day and 22 degrees at night. The sea is still around 25 degrees.

We were in the hotel from January 6th, 2020 to January 13th, 2020 and were very satisfied! It is a very nice hotel, well there are one or two blemishes, but you feel very comfortable! The entire staff are very helpful and attentive! The food is very good, of course, if you are looking for German food it is not suitable. We were very happy and would love to come back. Those who fly in January should bring warm clothes to wear in the evening, during the day it is very warm and the pool is heated and is cleaned every evening! Price / performance satisfaction. not quite the 5 star experience we were expecting, few issues with our room that never got sorted, like a drip from ceiling in bathroom, air con wasn't up to much either and lighting in the room was atrocious. we were all inclusive, plenty of drinks and food but very repetive throughout our stay. pools and beach were very good and sea was exceptionally clear and perfect for snorkelling. evening entertain me was good

The hotel is very beautiful with a large garden and nice low oriental style houses. The pool was heated in December. We only ate at the buffet restaurant Lagoon and liked the food every day and the varied dishes. The hotel's own coral reef was fantastically beautiful, so much life in the water. We thought that the cleaning of the room but the cleaner has a difficult job to do because such a worn room we had is almost impossible to clean. First of all: The negative reviews this year are without exception justified.
We stayed at this hotel in 2016. On arrival we were informed that they did not have a room (booked: luxury comfort), they wanted to move us to the neighboring hotel Makadi Palace . After we didn't want that, we got an upgrade to a junior suite.
What has changed?
Positive change: NONE
Negative change:
- You can no longer eat and drink freely in the 3 connected hotels
- Beach access now divided by hotel
Now about the hotel in general:
Positive:
- extremely beautiful facility, everything very clean, very friendly staff,
- The room was cleaned regularly and the towels were changed.
Negative:
- Lagoun restaurant is the main restaurant for dinner - much too small, something is constantly running out, hardly any vegetables, hardly any fruit
- In many places, the quality of the facilities is falling sharply: There are a lot of tiles missing in the pool, in many places tables, chairs, doors, lamps, taps are broken, loungers are already dangerously broken, on the beach the boundaries for privacy are partly falling apart
- Better quality drinks and ice cream only for cash payment (count as extras)
- In the themed restaurants a good 80% of all food and drinks ONLY against additional payment
- Nice drink coffee and cake in the afternoon - not feasible, coffee only on the beach in plastic glasses (also for other drinks), no cake
One wonders why one has booked all-in for expensive money. Basically, at no point is attention drawn to the fact that something is all. Only during the ordering process do you find out about the grievances and it is offered as an alternative supply subject to additional payment.
We are aware that in these countries you cannot expect the same standards as in Germany, and neither do we. But: It is a 5-star hotel (national category)! We have already been to many countries around the world (most recently this year in Bali, already the 4th time in Egypt, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Morocco, Tunisia etc ...) but we haven't had such a bad price-performance ratio as here. More appearance than reality in the catalogs.
In summary: NOT RECOMMENDED, NOT AGAIN
