Prayers to the Parisiens, and everyone who loves Notre Dame. We are blessed to have Grace Cathedral in beautiful condition.
The building is beautiful, and when entering it is wrapped in cool, cool air. It is a place that makes me want to stay forever.
Peaceful, allows one to be with their thoughts in a profound way!
Nice place to visit when in San Fran. Good photo opportunity.
I don't know what the parish is like, though it seems most people I've met converted after attending masses here. Episcopal Church has many low-income services in SF
the chapel with keith haring's bronze is worth seeing
What a beauty, or took me too long to visit. Great programs open fire the public.
Exceptionally beautiful, unusually warm and welcoming space. The interfaith memorial was inspiring.
Gorgeous cathedral. Came here around Christmas time.
I visit the facilities usually once a week the they are quite good and clean and well managed.
More than a ...its a time travelling portal to reflect.
Beautiful. Stunning. The labyrinth experience is wonderful. They even have a scavenger hunt app for kids, with a pretty cool prize at the end... Hidden in a very cool location.
Life time experience , work of an art building . Sacred and deeply energetic feel blessed
One of the four beautiful churches in San Francisco.
Beautiful cathedral church (Episcopalian). The neo-Gothic interior is well balanced with modern installations. Excessive reproduction of the Chartres labyrinth.
This place makes me feel in Paris, at Notre Dame more precisely. So you do not need to describe the beauty of the book.
This is obviously a place to visit during your stay, but it is a monument that deserves. If you do not come by bus or VTC, you will have to climb 4 to 5 blocks of rather steep streets. Avoid with children or elderly people.
Such a beautiful Church. Rose window glows at night, and beautiful wooden carved doors. For meditation, there is a labyrinth out front
In my opinion it's the most beautiful church in the city. The bells still toll at noon daily and they sound absolutely beautiful
Gorgeous building. Great place to stop on a San Fran trip.
Absolutely a must see... gorgeous stained glass and architecture..
It's right on the cable car line, so it's easy to jump off tour the cathedral, and get back on the cable car an hour later. I've seen a lot of churches all over the world, but this Cathedral is one of the biggest churches I have ever seen in my life! Totally a must see.
Amazing cathedral! The mix of classic and modern elements , the vibes, the art and the music they all create a very special atmosphere
As the third largest Episcopal (Anglican) cathedral in the United States, Grace Cathedral is a marvelous crown atop Nob Hill. Compared to counterparts in Europe, Grace Cathedral is rather small and made of modest materials. What makes the cathedral great are the building s geometry and the stained glass windows by the Connick studio in Boston, Willet studio in Philadelphia, and Loire studio in Chartres, France.
Liturgically and musically, Grace Cathedral offers the best of the Anglican tradition in an unlikely location. Visitors and seekers from other liturgical Christian traditions will easily recognize the structure of the liturgy. Others, who are suspicious of religious institutions (probably for good reason) will find a community that welcomes questions and is unperturbed by doubt.
Full disclosure - I have been a member of the Grace Cathedral community since the mid 1990s; therefore, my review review is somewhat biased. Nevertheless, as an individual who craves intelligent discourse, anonymity (sometimes), welcome (sometimes), and beauty, Grace Cathedral is a welcome refuge.
Grace Cathedral really reinvented the soul, depth and love of community in an amazingly historic place. I continue to be amazed at the events they put on. They have made the beauty of community and love modern with the collection of events they take on. I recently attended a sound meditation at Grace Cathedral simply amazing.
Magnificent ! It reminds me of the Cathedral Notre-Dame de Paris.
Wonderful! She reminds me of the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris .
Ethereal echo architectural spiritual experience. Not one but two labyrinths, inside by candle light, outdoors, even in the rain it's uplifting.
Beautiful, majestic, imposing. I thought I was wrong in the country and I am in Germany, not in the center of San Francisco ... !!! Don't miss this goal!
Although I am not a Christian, I still feel calm inside.
A fascinating cathedral, the stain glass windows and paintings on the wall tell the visitor a lot about how Americans worship
Brings people to rest especially on tuesdays when there are yoga sessions
Amazing only went at night so I didn't go in but absolutely beautiful to see!!
Old hi rye l still very gracefull in her stoney grey way
The Lord please praise Peets!

Watch your mouth, Sebastian. Be quiet, humble, and line up for your coffee.
Sunday, 9.50am. Grace Cathedral, Nob Hill. The church goers guide the Thirsty Coffee Enthusiast, who occasionally dresses as a priest for Halloween, to the basement of the church. I'm passing two ladies sitting in a corner, studying the bible.
I'm preparing myself mentally to confess my latest sins and praise the Lord, but the girl at the coffee counter couldn't be bothered.
Fine. One large house coffee, please.
Sitting on a wooden bench and sipping on my Peets coffee I'm thinking that this little hidden-in-the-Cathedrals-basement coffee shop is a heavenly gift. And maybe I should reconsider my costume choice for Halloween this year. It's about time.
Amen.
The Episcopal cathedral church of the Diocese of California, that is the seat of the bishop, built 1928-1964 in the historic French Gothic as one of the largest Episcopalian cathedrals in the US. A great place to see French Gothic ecclesiastical architecture, and much precious art in its intended setting, ranging from Gothic to contemporary. A set of running murals along the sides of the nave represent the story of San Francisco, from the first Anglican mass at Drake's landing, and the coming of the Franciscan missionaries to the founding of the UN. The only oddity is that its facade holds niches designed to hold statuary images of saints, but the bishop at the time of its completion, James Pike, opted to leave the niches empty. Two years later this bishop was censured and resigned, and after his son killed himself he turned to clairvoyanice and spiritualism. He had also been twice divorced, and was an alcoholic. In any case, the older stained glass windows are beautiful and cast beautiful light into the nave. The main doors were cast from Lorenzo Ghiberti's Gates of Paradise at the Florence Baptistry.
For those who enjoy choral music, this is probably the place to go in the Bay Area. They still have a choir of men and boys who sing evensong (part of vespers) once a week during the school term. And they host choral concerts from the likes of Westminster Abbey, Kings College, etc. Some of the canons still employ the melodious Queen's English.
They also have a floor labyrinth traced from Chartres Cathedral. An adjacent quadrangle which houses a fine k-8 boys school. In the crypt there is a cafe and gift shop. Unfortunately there was a beautiful, limestone chapter house fronting the facade that they decided to tear down in order to build a massive and quite ugly staircase all along the facade.
A large church at the top of Nob Hill. Since it was Sunday, I was only wondering if the pagans could bother me.
An historic cathedral with two labyrinths, chapels, murals, stained glass, organ and a host of programs, Grace Cathedral is a functioning parish in the Episcopalian denomination. In addition to daily masses, the offerings for the public include music concerts, labyrinth walks, meditation and prayer groups and more. The architecture is spectacular and well worth a visit to this grand treasure.
Beautiful Cathedral on Nob Hill, they have wonderful programming throughout the year
Nice place to vist for either a short break from the bustle of life or to mediate the day. The unque feature of this cathedral is the monthly events centered on mediation and the midallion.
Grace Cathedral is an imposing gothic cathedral. The inside isn't much to look at it's quite dark and cold but well worth a visit.
Pretty on the outside and even more on the inside. It is in neo-Gothic style and you can enter for free inside, although you are invited to make a donation of 10-20 dollars.
It's a beautiful and welcoming place. Very peaceful.
Beautiful cathedral and an excellent choir. The lighting and layout made for a really peaceful setting
Grand gothic church. Beautiful paintings around rosettes.
You have to visit them in San Francisco.
Love the overwhelming architecture. Gotta find and do the courtside maze(Taylor St side I recall). Suppose to be another one, too. Will do it sometime. Where Steve McQueen met Simon Oakland at mass in the legendary movie: "Bullit".
Fantastic place of worship and gathering. Epicenter of Nob Hill. The maze is cool. The school is great. Massive cavern of prayer.
The new lighting inside and out is absolutely amazing!!
The shear size if it combined with the silence was amazing. There is a lot of history and art contained with in these walls. They hold a Eucharist service here daily at 12:10pm. Also they hold a worship service as well daily. Admission is free though their is a suggested donation of $10.
I think my favorite part is just the space that is created within these walls. Space to just be.
The labyrinth walk is a must do! Also check out the Interfaith AIDS memorial inside!
The design and decor of this church is absolutely magnificent. I was there when there was no service in session and found the stroll through its aisles and corridors a nice, peaceful experience. I can't say I agree with the actual ideals of the church, but visually it is good.
We explored San Francisco on foot with a guide. Tiring, but worth the effort. Lots of beautiful buildings and hidden places. Beautiful cathedral, with beautiful window pictures.
Built in the same way as the Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, the old cathedral was so beautiful and spacious that it looked like a comfortable haven.
I've only visited this place from the outside because usually I am on a bicycle when I'm in this area. There are really a lot of very nice hill climbs that one can summit to reach this beautiful cathedral. One day, I'll have to bring a bike lock and visit the inside.
The "Other" Cathedral in SF.
Spectacular. Breathtaking and Historical...There are two - indoor and outdoor - Labryinths. Parking a pain. Expensive garage below.
This is a beautiful building and well worth the walk.
