Grace Cathedral is a special place. It s not just a religious edifice; it s a community gathering place as well.

GC has many activities serving the people who visit. They have events such as a lecture series with famous people. There is yoga on Tuesday evenings. There are job search support groups using the meeting rooms. The outdoor courtyards are used for social events and wedding parties.

When you visit, you may be stunned by the physical size of the interior. The murals depict interesting religious and historical themes.
The stained glass windows allow sunlight to shine in causing in some places a rainbow of colors to dance on the floor.

A famous feature is the exact replica of the Gates of Paradise doors (of the Baptistery in Florence, Italy) in the center exterior of the cathedral front. These doors are bronze and beautiful 3-dimensional figures seeming to be leaping off the surface.

There is a small labyrinth in the outside courtyard which you can stroll along. The larger labyrinth inside the church can be meditative to walk through.

What s really cool is that GC accepts all people to attend services at the church irregardless of the religion you choose to identify with, irregardless of ethnicity and irregardless of sexual orientation.

This Anglican church personifies what San Francisco is: open-minded and accepting. We are all humans in the eyes of God. I m so proud that this cathedral (which was built after the 1906 earthquake at its present location) is in my neighborhood. I call this house my spiritual home. It can be home for you as well. The doors are open to all. We welcome the world.

Staind Glass windows tell visitors stories.
Hand-carved, double doors rise twice the height of an man who may stand before them.
Bells toll the different hours. The artistic masonry stands legend of triumphant pioneers of their skill and dedication to God and Earth.
There is a courtyard for open serenity with a pool of colored lighting.

Of course, Grace Cathedral is a relatively new building (when talking cathedrals) but it is stylish and beautiful; filled with lovely art. Visitors are warmly welcomed and there is a voluntary donation box, presumably to assist with upkeep. I loved the murals which trace the story of San Francisco's development. They beautifully excecuted, huge, colourful and interesting, lining both sides of the nave. There is lovely stained glass, both traditional and modern. I was particularly entranced by the gorgeous embroidered hassocks - navy blue ground, filled with botanicals like a medieval tapestry. So look down as well as up and around.
The Cathedral is situated on a dear little park across from Top Of The Mark. So you can go from the sacred to the profane in the twinkling of an eye and finish your visit with a cocktail and a magnificent view of the city and Bay Area.
Was interested to note a huge mural across the road to my left as I exited the main doors of the Cathedral, a large bas relief mural commemorating those who were Masons and served in the war. It's on a huge MasonicTemple.
This is a very well heeled neighbourhood. All the markers are there.

Beautiful Episcopal cathedral in the heart of San Francisco. The church is impressive in size and architecture up close, and feels larger than it actually is. Outside, it features a model of the Brunelleschi Doors and the Chartres Cathedral labyrinth. Inside, it features a series of murals depicting the history of San Francisco. Given how nice it is, I always add it to a walk through central SF.

Amazing place to visit. Lots of beautiful stained glass. Very high ceilings makes the place feels grand. And both sides of the sanctuary there are separate small chapels. When I was here, there was some construction outside or nearby (early October 2017) so it was rather noisy. Without which, this would be a really peaceful place to sit and just be.

Lovely cathedral built after 1906 earthquake on a donated site. Worth visiting for the entrance doors, stained glass window including at high level Einstein window with E=mc2. Restrooms at lower level

Really no words can describe but this place is beautiful. Everytime I come here I leave with the most Joy ever even if I just sit a few minutes. The angels are definitely present indeed. Even if you are not Christian Catholic or don t even believe in Jesus it s still a breathtaking and marvelous place architecturally. You don t need to schedule anything or even come to a service just drop in at your own time. It s peaceful and free.

Wonderful! America can only boast a few Cathedrals and Temples of this refinement. This structure is only second to the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. Soaring Gothic ceilings flooded with cobalt blue light streaming down from every angle. Ancient Labyrinth designs. Large iconicly styled muriel paintings/images of the story of San Francisco and the development of religious culture of the City. Multiple altars. One devoted to all of the world faiths. My favorite two windows are Albert Einstein and the Cosmic Window. All cultures and faiths would feel welcome here. A sense of refinement, love and peace. One altar devoted to the Mary Magdalene and women of the world. I read on their website that they are welcoming to the LGBT community as well.

This cathedral is stunning! There is a vibrant energy inside, gorgeous stained glasses that color the floor, there was an organ player that filled the room with an intense calming music. The architecture is really gorgeous, there was a big labyrinth for prayer. If you are in San Francisco make sure don't miss it.

I made the hike up from Market Street to California Street to take pictures of the Grace Cathedral for my wife. What do you know, I made it in time for Easter Sunday Mass. I honestly can't remember the last time I went to church. It was standing room only, being that it was Easter Sunday. Fortunately I was there early to get a seat. It was quite the experience with the full choir, band, and the organ playing amongst the masses. A gem in the heart of San Francisco.

The exterior is beautiful, the interior in my opinion a bit too modern but worth a visit, coming out right in front of it there are gardens I brought a book but in reality I enjoyed the Chinese in groups or individually they did gymnastics to the rhythm of music, an enchantment to see them, people also impressed me
that despite they don't know each other, they always have a friendly smile and a kind word, what a pleasure

It is understood that Freemasons have a historic interest in buildings constructed out of large blocks of stone. It is therefore appropriate that this beautiful church building is across the street from the Nob Hill Masonic Center. It is an amazing place to visit any time the cathedral is open. When I visited in October 2014, people were very friendly and I was allowed to self-tour without restraint. Well worth the price of admission (which was free). There is indeed a church that meets here. May be worth a visit.

In the stunning church on the slope, it was great to play the organ just after the party. The design of the rose window pattern is relatively new. It was originally caused by reconstruction. A Chinese introduction is available upon request.

This place is beautiful. It looks like you're not allowed to enter cause it's so beautiful. But you can. They have a fun little online app game got can play where you learn about the church and it's history.

Keith Haring AIDS Chapel altarpiece is located in the rear. Coffee spot and free of charge toilets are downstairs. One labirinth is inside and one outside. As you enter Einstein's formula may be appreciated at the top row of windows (first on the right).

A big church in Nob Hill.
It looks very beautiful, but the inside is also nice. There is a toilet in the basement, and there is a gift shop and Peets Coffee, so you can relax on the premises.
There is also a park across the street, so you can spend a quiet time just a short walk from downtown.
I do yoga for free on Tuesday.

Very beautiful cathedral on Nob Hill. Was completed in 1964, contrary to the visual impression of the French-Gothic style. But it is supposedly earthquake-proof. Americans like to compare with Notre Dame, but that's way over the top.

Grace Cathedral belongs to the Protestant Episcopal Church in the United States. Sobrr built in neo-gothic style. The third largest Protestant cathedral of the Episcopal Church in the United States. The cathedral is decorated with frescoes, mosaics, beautiful stained glass windows. The main attraction of the cathedral is the bronze doors of the Gates of Paradise - an exact copy of the Gates of Paradise in the Cathedral of San Giovanni in Florence. Organ music concerts are held.
