Awesome place with a cool German vibe and lots of beer on tap
There's bar behind the store! With awesome german beers and food
The place to be for Oktoberfest in the Bay. Awesome beer bar, any day.
Great German beer and food. Staff is friendly and always willing to help.
Really really impressed with ambience, food, and of course, the beer.
Exceptional German-inflected beer selection served in appropriate glassware from a beautiful bar. Great German food. Outstanding interior and patio seating. Tucked away and intimate, yet roomy and able to accommodate large groups.
Great beer selection which periodically changes. Tasty lunch plates, sausages, sauerkraut, potatoes, etc.
Good German beer and bar food. Their black beer with the pretzel is awesome!
Best German restaurant/bar in the bay! Shnitzel sandwich rules!
Great beer selection with a great outdoor sitting area. The service was painfully slow at the bar so get a liter of whatever you're drinking. Got a large order of fries and they were tasty.
Great beer selection that changes frequently. Friendly staff and always a great crowd
Good food, great beer and an ambience straight from Germany.
Highly recommend the Black Lager and the Mac n cheese
The best beers ..... And the food ... Super recommended
Service is good but the drinks are pricey. I paid $14 for a cider, and the beers were around $10-$12
Limited menu, very nice people but kinda crowded. Food was good.
Simply Sausages and Beer... what more could you possibly want! :)
Amazing pub with wonderful beer selection, both German and American, good German food. Plus the added benefit of a good sized store with lots of imported German goods (the Curry Ketchup and spice cookies are particular favorites of mine). Store closes much earlier than the pub, pub entrance is in the back only, when store is closed.
This and Freewheel are the coolest bars I've found (so far!) in Redwood City
Their beer selection is wonderful, and food is great. They have different types of sausage, and daily specials. I had the best hamburger of my life here! Try the Andechs beer if they have it, highest rated beer with good reason!
Great selection of German and local beers. Fantastic food! Don t miss the bottle shop for a great selection of rare beers for take away.
They have a great selection of German beers on tap, and even their pear cider is deliciously unique. It's a very popular place, and has the liveliest beer house environment on the peninsula. You always feel like you're walking into a party. The thing is, it's extremely difficult to get a seat if you come after 5pm. There is no hostess to meet you at the door and put you on a waiting list. So you and your buddies just have to squeeze in and stand next to a table like vultures, hoping the people occupying that table will leave. It can get awkward, when you have people waiting and the people on the table are still hanging around chatting for 15+ minutes after they've drained their mugs.
As for the food, be warned that their kitchen closes early (8pm last time I checked) so be there early if you want proper food with your drink. They have a wide selection that includes other European-style fare aside from German fare. I agree that the "German" food here is not authentic German food; it has obviously been tweaked for American tastes. Foreigners who visit Germany often complain that the food there is too bland for them. So it follows that a German would find the food at this place too spicy.
Service is kind of a hit or miss; the servers are super nice and chill but because the place is super busy, it can be a challenge to get the attention of somebody to take your order. Once I ordered a drink and the guy completely forgot about it. Half an hour later, when I finally asked him about it, he apologized profusely. He promptly brought me my drink and said it was on him because of the slip-up.
Crowded but in a good way. Great local spot with German Beers served in large glasses. Friendly service. Did I mention crowded? Limited food selection, but goes well with drink. Their Oktoberfest celebration is highly recommended.
Nice to have a selection of both common beers and German beers on the other side. Not a fan of the food menu. Good service, and nice environment, albeit often rather crowded
This is one of those places that makes you proud of your town. If it disappeared, I would be crushed. Excellent staff, excellent beer selection and authentic, if limited, German cuisine. The actual store is amazing too. Some of the goods here you can't even find in Deutschland anymore.
Great beer selection. Friendly staff. The food is ok, but some of their daily specials can be amazing. We have eaten here many times and have always enjoyed it.
Quick and yummy. Great beer selection as well. Parking is rough during typical eating times, so plan ahead.
Most amazing beer spot in Redwood City. A must see if you like German food and German beer. Also a good selection of local IPAs
The best! This is the top must-go beer place in Redwood City. Nice staff, great food, great beers, funky fun gift shop. The only thing to watch out for is that it will ALWAYS be crowded, and parking (as always in downtown RWC) is a pain. Well worth putting up with however. Can be quite loud inside from the crowds, the enclosed outside seating can help. All worth it.
Good lunch spot - lots of techies and locals too. Good spaetzle and schnitzel.
Good selection of beers, German and craft. Great sausages and pretzel. The staff is helpful if you are undecided.
Best bar on the peninsula. Great German beer selection and sausages and preztels
Excellent German and craft beer selection. Great ambience, and enthusiastic staff.
Fun place to hang with friends. Good pretzels and beer
Great food, beer, service, and atmosphere! What more could you ask for?
Friendly staff, great beers, lively vibe, and authentic kistsch - perfect!
The energy at this place is unbelievable! If you're in the bay area this is a place definitely worth checking out
Great service and selection! would definitely go again!
this place rocks - if you like great beer, this is the place to come. They have a limited menu but it is all tasty. The giant pretzel with meat and cheese is my favorite. It gets super crowded and loud after 6 when it is flooded from people getting off work. I try to come early to eat at 5, don't like all the noise. I didn't take away any stars for that because the food and beer are just that good.
Amazing pretzels, wurst, and beer. Das Germans would be proud
This place is a gem! Ordered the schnitzel and a warm pretzel along with one of the German drinks, I cannot remember the name of at the moment, and was very satisfied! The food was spot on! I've eaten at many German restaurants, and this is easily at the top. The grocery store has some of the best selection of german and European goods I have found in the bay area, and the staff were delightful! I would 100% recommend you try this place for their food, hospitality, and market! Amazing experience and can't wait to return!
It's not like it use to be. But the staff and owner are friendly. My boyfriend and I were invited to go by my boyfriend's nephew.
Super friendly staff, patient and skilled even when slammed. Not bad ticket times either.
Wednesday lunches are crazy busy due to specialty burgers. The market has great imported products too.
I just went there last week since I had heard good things about the place. Well, if you are there for beer, it is a good place. However, the food is just terrible. The pretzels are good but the rest is pretty bad. I am German and went to most of the German food places in the Bay Area. This one stands out as having the least authentic food. I had the currywurst and had a hard time finishing it up. The seasoning was just way too spicy. This heat was pretty much in all of the dishes we had, including the mustard. In my 20 years of living in Germany, I have not had a currywurst that was like theirs. Even the sausage itself was not that great. If you go, just drink beer and eat somewhere else.
Great authentic German food. Great beer selection, both import German and local craft brew. Attached to an awesome German market that has the essential German stuff.
Tasty food, good beer. Not sure if anything else is necessary!
Has gotten extremely popular the last few years making it hard to find a table. But they have the best legit German beers on tap in the South Bay. Plus snacks (pretzels, brats) and a first class beer selection in the shop out front. The popularity is deserved!
Yummy food and my friends enjoyed the beer. I don't drink.
Best spot in town! We love this place, and the staff is excellent!
Excellent beer selection. There are also plenty of ciders for those who are always watching their alcohol intake.
Was Great. Casual ambiance with happily-high (loud) patrons. Nice local and German beer options. Some good, but limited, food choices. Evening Entrance (at the back) was a bit hard to find.
Best place to get a beer. Good atmosphere and great beer
Delicious double IPA. Great food. Really enjoyed the outside seating. Service was also on spot. Very friendly and helpful staff. Dogs are allowed which is so rad!
Small menu but great German food and amazing beers.
A great place for great beers, good food and to hang out with best friends. Definitely will be back again with work colleagues for happy hour or some good German food!
Gute essen und bier selection. Friendly helpful tenders of the bar. Hard to park the car.
First time here was last week in the back, in the Beer Garden!
Love it! The choices of Beer they have here are amazing, and food options are delicious as well!
Their prices for drinks are really great too!
Love the set up and style, inside can get hot pretty quick, so if yo can score outside seats do it!
Great place all around.
This place is about as hole in the wall as it gets. You basically sit down anywhere or order some beer from the bar (about 10 German beers on tap) and then someone comes by and takes your order. This place is super casual. The crowd is pretty varied and most of the patrons seemed very chill and cool, everyone is just having a good time and chilling. The food here is honestly not that great (I can only speak to the Bratwurst and Chicken Apple Sausage). The brat was completely flavorless and the mustard and kraut were crucial to adding any flavor to that dish. The chicken apple sausage had some more flavor but still seemed very uninspired. The beer selection really shined here. I was able to try a number of beers either in a liter or half liter. The appetizers (pretzels with cheese and meat) looked really good and I'll try those next time I come here.
Overall come here for the beer, apps and cool atmosphere; You'll really enjoy it!
Great beer selection and atmosphere. Service was attentive. They have a nice store for German food and beer.
This restaurant has wonderful service as well as yummy meals. One of my favourite restaurants in the area. The food and drinks served fast and the prices are fair. Highly recommended.
We came for a beer and some pretzels and sausage and the outdoor space was great! The stout is delicious. Everyone was so nice... even when we accidentally unplugged their POS machine for the patio... I definitely recommend giving this place a try! They seem to be dog friendly, too!
Best selection of both European and American beers. Lots of hard to find local beer such as cellarmaker and Alvarado st. I LOVE this place.
A must go if you're a beer fan of German or general styles (two separate lists). Great German food, friendly atmosphere although things can get tight on a Thursday - Saturday. Also has a cool market up front if you need beer or German food stuffs to go.
German foods and beers plus a surprise. Non local beers plus a super cool bier haus in the back. The food is total bangers. The schnitzel is perfect. I got fries v the salad.
I went bottle shopping after eating. Serious beer here. Check out my 3 gems. So happy. I'll be back
How could I not save my 200th review for the coolest beer garden in Northern California. Gourmet Haus gave me faith that I actually could like beer. I was introduced to this place last year by some friends who were diehard regulars.
They have both indoor and outdoor seating, and I'm a huge fan of the outdoor experience since it feels like a community gathering of people who are just looking to have fun and unwind. I always come in here with the mindset that I want to try something completely new, so I've tried quite the range of beers.
All of the hefeweizens are delicious, so if you aren't a huge fan of beer, I recommend starting with those. Just be prepared since the glasses are huge and each drink feels like a meal.
They also have delicious german food including their amazing large pretzel covered with meat and cheese. Beer food perfection.
If you haven't visited this place, you are definitely missing out!
Good beer. The pretzel was perfect. The spaetzle was delicious!
The food menu could be longer and the pretzels are not tasty, but the beer is delicious and the environment is fun.
Excellent beer selection and great spot to meet up after a day at the office.
Great beer. Exquisite sausage. Get here early if you have a big group.
