Nice German bar located behind the German grocers, can be accessed through the grocers or you can walk around to the back and enter that way. They offer a nice selection of German and American beers, there is a decent outdoor seating area, and a fine selection of food. We had the chicken wings and the steak and eggs, fantastic.

Amazing beer, great food, friendly service, and an incredible selection of authentic food/drink in the market section up front. Definitely check out this awesome, family-owned restaurant! Loved it!

This place has a great selection and great atmosphere. I try to bring all my friends from out of town here.

Can't say I enjoy the food, but that boils down to personal preference. And I come here for the beer anyways!

An awesome bar with a story more legendary than most. It's small, cozy, and can be loud and crowded. But the beer selection is one of the best and most unique around, and the food is superb.

One of my personal all time favorite places in Redwood City!! Great energetic vibes and awesome German food beer and sweets! A store in the front with mostly European brands and a lively beer garden in the back. Great staff and crew! Been going here since a kid. Definitely try their German drafts and big fresh baked pretzels!!

My neice is studying abroad for a year and was homesick for Germany. This place was the perfect tonic. Familiar food, familiar beer, familiar atmosphere. Authentic, friendly service, lots of beer choices. Echte Bierstube! Recommended.

The place the iphone 4 was found. This back door beer hall is for aficionados. While the food menu is limited it is outstanding quality German food. In addition to the German beers on tap there are guest beers on tap too (mostly local brewers). The outdoor patio is a nice relief if it gets to loud inside.

I seriously love this German pub. It has the most awesome selection of draft German imported beer that I've ever seen. Ten plus at all times and a great mix of types. It's unmatched in the area to my knowledge. And actually I've never seen it's like of quality and variety even in Germany.

Food is pretty good with limited selection. Decent sausages and a few other items plus a daily special. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for dinner, unless the plan is to drink awesome beer and eat some food while you're at it.

Small exterior patio with shared bench seating. No view or decor but it's shaded and heated and has a pretty good vibe. I wouldn't call it a beer garden because there is no garden. But at least it's outside and the weather is often nice.

Cool little shop in front featuring imported European food and alcohol. Nice rare real imported items.

Parking can be a bit challenging and costs a few dollars but not too bad. I always find a spot within a few blocks and in less than ten minutes looking.

This is my favorite pub. Period no contest.

Great little beer house. Has sausages and pretzles after restaurant hours, and a bigger menu during the day. The beer is just as great as it was in Germany! Open seating in and out, so find your own place and order at the bar.

This place has a cute outdoor beer garden as well as indoor seating when available...

The beer selection is heavy slanted towards German variety and is pretty extensive/impressive... and for those not really into that they have great amount of other beer styles, and if lucky a rare hidden (beer) gem from Modern Times, Mikkeller, or the like.

I also have to comment on their goulash... a couple and I met there on an unexpectedly rainy day and ordered that... OMG, it was amazing... perfect amount of meat and veggies... and oh, did it hit the spot that day. We also ordered a Pretzel to snack on and that was really good as well... but the goulash... oh my...

Amazing place that I wish was closer to home... Highly recommended restaurant with a laid back vibe and amazing beer selection that rivals a German beer hall.

Now, to a critique from an actual German... I was looking for a German market to buy packaged powdered spaghetti bolognese sauce, since I find American spaghetti sauce in glass jars extremely bland and watery and found this on Google. Then I got lulled in by reviews of many Americans who purportedly took their German friend there that said the food tasted just like in Germany and gave the Biergarten section a try. I ordered the Leberkaes (German: liver cheese), looking forward to one of my favorite German meats that you cannot get at an American butcher. At first, I was kind of confused that it would be served on Sauerkraut with an egg instead of a Kaiser roll but I figured that this may be a regional difference (I'm not Bavarian. Never been to Bavaria). I got a measly 1cm thick piece of what looked some type of red grilled spam (didn't look like your typical leber kaes, which is supposed to be pink and juicy with a dark flaky crunchy crust). It tasted like some type of unsavory sausage but it didn't even come close to what Fleisch Kaes is supposed to taste like.
My friend's 1cm thick Nuernberger sausages with the same lame sides of Sauerkraut and potatoe salad didn't look that delicious either. (Seriously, Germans don't eat Sauerkraut at every meal. Growing up, I've eaten Sauerkrat maybe twice a year, at most.) So that's a no to the purportedly German food for me.

Also, I didn't get my side of fries until like 10 minutes after my friend and I were done eating, by the way. If it had been a crowded place, I wouldn't really mind but we came at about 11AM and there were maybe 3 other tables. The waiter and bus boy came by about 3 times saying "oh yeah! Fries!" Also, if you are German and hoping to have a conversation in German with your waiter, this is not the place. The entire staff was American, at least when I went there.

I didn't order any beer since I don't drink alcohol but I would believe that it tastes the same since the beer is imported and not brewed there. It's like going to a German market and being surprised that the imported products are authentic.

Speaking of market, the products there are indeed German and while the selection is very small, you can find your essentials like powdered bolognese sauce, which is why I bumped this up to two stars. However, everything seems overpriced. A square of Ritter Sport chocolate here costs $4.05 (about 70ct in Germany), in comparison, I pay $3,25 for a square at the market at Tressider on Stanford campus (with a similarly large selection) and $1,99 for a square at Trader Joe's (the selection is smaller but they have that dope Leipniz cookie type).

To be clear the review is of the beer garden area in the back of the store (it should really have its own Google record). The place is amazing, with tons of great beers on tap friendly staff and crowd. The hours are different then stores and it is usually open even if the store is closed, you just have to use the entrance in the back.

Great service, wish I could say the same for the food. Menu online is not offered in restaurant. very limited choices. I got burnt potatoes pancakes, they did not charge me for it.
I wanted a good German meal- money not an object. I got one Bratwurst.
very disappointed in the actual menue.
Want a beer- go there. Want a dinner go elsewhere.

I am giving two stars primarily for the wait staff who were very friendly. And, my husband enjoyed his beer. However, if you are not a beer drinker and would like some good german food, this is not the place. Having travelled to Berlin and also experiencing some good german food in the US, this place is strongly lacking. A SPICY weiner schnitzle sandwich? Stale bread and dry pork. Very oily potato pancakes served with tasteless applesauce. They should work to improve their kitchen.

I don't give many places 5 stars but this place gets one. Great beer selection as they have now expanded to offer local craft beer like Cellarmaker and Alvarado street in addition to a great Greman beer collection. Food is pretty good too. Authentic German cuisine.

The bar has a great beer selection, both German imports and American craft beers. The bartender was very helpful. They have a small German food menu, but not a lot of vegetarian options. I plan to try the pretzels on my next visit.

The store is also pretty cool with lots of European import food and other items.

This place is really cool. We had heard about it from some friends and we were finally in the area and went to check it out. Love the setting. The family style seating. The drinks. The people. It was just a great atmosphere for relaxing and having a drink. Would totally go back!

Bumbed into this place not even knowing it excisted!
I left Germany a few months ago and they have a huge selection of products you might miss from back home. Food and beer was great! I was really excited to have found Club Mate, which is literally my favorite refreshment drink in Germany!
Will come back soon for sure
