Great cupcakes, too pricey, slow service. If there is no line or a really short one give it a shot otherwise pass. The service seemed almost intentionally slow in order to generate a false line and thus garner false sense of high demand and draw more customers

The wait on Sat. night was about 35mins which from what I heard wasnt bad at all. We got half a doz. that night and the next day before we left to go home we stopped by there again and bought a few more. We stopped on a Mon. and there was no wait at all. So far all the 1s I have tried are really good and it is worth the wait. The cake is moist and the icing is really smooth and not thick and nasty. Love the cupcakes!

This place is getting a bit long in the tooth, and quality control has clearly suffered over the years. Nevertheless, there's still a reason the lines are long; these are darned good cupcakes/

The cupcakes taste good and it's a place to see if you're visiting D.C., however, the line is almost always very long and it can be tough to pick what you want in store from the pressure to move and almost no time you have to see the cupcakes. Ordering ahead online is a good idea.

I LOVE this cupcake shop. Variety of cupcakes that are ALL tasty. They don't split apart if you cut it in half. It is not that expensive, it's just 3 dollars per piece, but because it's tasty, it's worth it.

Tastes Better than a Local 'Cupcake Wars' Winner near me.
A lot of these reviews state how long the line & wait was, surprisingly my sister and I went on a Tuesday during dinner time and there was no line with a virtually empty store.
Taste: The cupcakes are closer to tasting more authentic (especially compared to the 'Cupcake Wars' chalky rich taste), but I had a rather dry Bailey's Red Velvet (one of their most popular) cake. The cream cheese frosting is probably the best I've had though! My sister got their vegan carrot cake that I tried --same great frosting-- the cake was better in my opinion than the red velvet, but ultimately underwhelming for a vegan carrot cake (one of my favorites from a bakery back home).

Price: Way too expensive for a single cupcake + box. Packaged cute though! We bought boxes for 50 cents because we couldn't imagine taking FROSTED cupcakes home in paper bags... Poor Consumer Model.
Lastly, the staff was overall inattentive and slow, but they were helpful with questions. They are $3.50 + $.50 for a box. With Tax, my cupcake cost $4.23. (For comparison, a 'Cupcake Wars' cupcake with tax is less than $3. While not my favorite, I would go for their taste and price over Georgetown Cupcake). After doing the math for box mix cupcakes (such as Betty Crocker or Pillsbury) + pre-made frosting, a 'homemade' cupcake would cost roughly $0.18. Considering the size is the same as one from a homemade cupcake, I would think homemade cupcakes 'from the heart' would be a fun activity or gift instead.
As someone who is health conscious (also as the world seems to be turning more health forward) I'm surprised they didn't have more options.

TOO LONG DIDN'T READ:
TLDR; Cake dry, but the cream cheese frosting was amazing! Inattentive staff. Definitely overpriced for quality. Have to add 50 cents for boxes. Basic Flavors.
Would recommend to go elsewhere.

Heard so much about this place being amazing. As I m in line looking at the menu online, I notice that the cupcakes are jus plain old cupcakes. No filling, nothing amazing with the toppings, just cupcakes. However, I had family members who lived at home (3 hours away) that were hard set on these things.

As we were waiting for our iced coffees, I ate one of the chocolate ganache cupcakes. Literally the most lackluster cupcake I ve bought from a fad-famous, type of place. I ve had Wegman s cupcakes that blew my mind in comparison. A grocery chain, yes.

They are boring normal cakes for the bases and very spiritless tops.

I will NOT recommend this place to any family or friends. If you want pictures of the cupcakes, they re website is spot on. Will post cake pictures later.

Omg I was amazed!! Never had a cupcake so delicious in my life!! Went to visit my sister-in-law in Virginia and this was one of our stops from our sight seeing expedition. We were not disappointed. It definitely left us wanting more. Sadly we didn t have enough time to go back for more before we left. But we were pleased to find out that they ship to our state. We had the holiday flavors. Chocolate Lava, Rudolf Red Velvet, Birthday Cake and Peppermint something cant recall all the names but they were all amazing. My husband doesn t like sweets and they had him wanting another as well as the rest of us!! I m now placing an order to get one for the holidays!!! Thank you Georgetown Cupcakes for the awesomely delicious experience!!

Georgetown Cupcake is mostly for tourists but that's ok. What I like about it is that it's a DC business that has kept up its hype for over 10 years! That's impressive. I go for the free secret flavor of the day and find it totally worth waiting in short to moderate lines. The cupcakes all taste great. I don't think I've ever had a bad one.

There are a few tables inside but mostly this is a to-go type place.

Great place to go with family and friends, chatting away as you wait for your turn to pick a cupcake. I picked Cherry Cheesecake!!! My jaw dropped when I tasted the goodness.
It actually has the Graham cracker bottom with a cheesecake fruit filling. Oh my!!

Received a dozen cupcakes Friday evening. Refrigerated them as they came with an ice pack. We had two Sunday for desert. They were the worst I have tasted ever. The cake was crumbly and dry and the icing like a brick of butter. Mine had red hot candy dits and a layer of chocolate and vanilla cake. Like I said, the cake just crumbled. No real taste. Very disappointing. Will leave them out of the fridge overnight and give them one last shot tomorrow. Can t see how that will help but very disappointed.

a place not suitable for the number of clients that receive daily is extremely small. people have to queue outside the premises, that is, on the street, which makes it very dangerous because the traffic is continuous.

Friendly, fast paced, though I do recommend being ready to pay with a credit or debit card if you can. There are two registers and one only accepts cards. The cupcakes are delicious! Check the specials online and think about what you want before getting there since most of the selection varies day by day.

Georgetown cupcake management does not care about pedestrians being hit by cars coming up 33 rd st. The line waiting to enter takes over the entire side walk. We have no way of using the side walk because GT cupcake does not provide a demarcation for the line so that pedestrians may share the side walk. We residents brought this issue to the management of Georgetown cupcakes. We suggested that they put some barrier to make the forming line take a part of the side walk and leave the other part to pedestrians so that they don t get hit by cars, but they did nothing about it. When I pass this area, I feeI am taking my life into my own hands as I have to walk in the street and face the rushing unsuspecting cars who are trying to make the light to 33rd street, which is the gateway of Georgetown. I hope someone sees this and pays attention to this issue and save lives.

Initially I only went here just to see what the hype was about.

The place has a pretty slow wait (maybe cause it s busy due to the hype or popularity )

The staff even though pretty friendly did not do the best helping with a suggestion (saying everything is good, doesn t help me make a choice on which cupcake to try).

Also the cups cakes are MAD expensive and I don t think the prices are reasonable.

HOWEVER at the end of the day the cupcakes I tried were great!

*I believe you can preorder and have cupcakes delivered!

**you can order coffee!

***they have vegan cupcakes!

So Ended up the day exploring Georgetown - which is beautiful - and we ended up standing in line somewhere - The line was long and I had 0% expectations..Its a Cupcake store right?? - never heard of this place before - BUT that ALL changed when I realized the cupcake I was eating was made in HEAVEN and GOD himself came down for that delivery - SO GOOD/SO DELICIOUS/SO WORTH THE WAIT. I had 3 cupcakes (Red Velvet/Cherry Blossom/ Key Lime) -
I literary do not know what happened around me whilst eating (well lets be honest - I was DEVOURING them) - magical :) loved it.

I've lived in DC for three years and never been to GTown cupcakes, mostly because I didn't want to wait in line. I recently found out that you can order online by 5pm the day before and pick up the following day without waiting in line. The cupcakes were both gorgeous and amazing. I tried the earl grey cupcake and the red velvet. Make sure to refrigerate them because after walking around with them for three hours the icing melted off on a few. Regardless, delicious and definitely worth checking out!
