The staff is friendly, well prepared and helpful. All the rest is a big mess, consider it only if you're really on a budget.

I loved I super easy to travel around Germany is confront of the Metro main terminal, it's has a lot of restaurants and supermarkets and they have safety box for your call luggage or just small things,has a cameras bar restaurant is a cool place.

It s clean, efficient and well located.
One of these mega hostels, seven story building, possible due to Hostelworld.
I stayed here for two nights, in a mixed six person dormitory.
The room was big enough, clean and well ventilated.
The in-suite toilets and shower where clean and super efficient in terms of space.
The mattress was not that comfortable, but I slept well.
Each bed has a personal lamp, two usb socket, and an electric socket overhead.

It didn t feel like a good place to socialize, and the extra service were on the point of being overpriced.
So bring your own towel, shampoo and locker.

Otherwise its a good accommodation option and I would definitely choose the place again on my next visit to Hamburg.

Nice hotel at a central spot in Hamburg. Everything was tight and cleaned up. Only sidenote is the size of the shower, which was very small.

An awesome hostel in Hamburg! Great facilities, amazing staff, and a great website, this is absolutely the best hostel in the area. The private rooms are well furnished, their common area doubles as a modern bar that is always filled with socializing travelers! Also, free WiFi and cheap laundry.

Fine Hostel for the price. Bathrooms are ridiculous small, but it s in a great location.

not even deserving a star! we were there with the family for one night. I had reserved the booking for 5 people + 1 baby and had already transferred the booking directly via the internet. On site they said I had to pay more for a bed because the baby is supposedly not counted and a bed remains free and we have to expect that the bed will be given to a stranger or you can look for another hotel.
a rip off to the power of three I think. i would not recommend the hotel it is too loud, the room itself is very cramped it felt like i was in jail. the toilet and shower are separated from each other, super narrow and unclean and there is not even a hand soap in it, but you have to get yourself or buy it at reception.

I would say the shower and toilet, if you really are a tall and strong woman or if you go inside, you can't get out of the tight space.

overall very bad, oh yes! the windows cannot be opened completely, they only open on the tip.

The best thing about the hostel is isn't location. Bang in front of the railway station. I stayed in an 8 bed mixed dorm with my friends. The room was spacious, with individual reading lights and charging port for every bed. The bar downstairs is good and the crowd is trendy. It's a nice place to meet fellow travelers and spend quality time. The bad part, the reason for 3 stars, are its washrooms. There was one toilet and one bathroom for 8 people to share. Not only that, it was tiny. Really tiny. Plus, they don't provide soap to wash your hands. I had a great experience staying in Generator Hostel Berlin and therefore expected better from this place. This needs to improve.

Cracking little hostel in the centre of Hamburg. Good coffee... But give breaky a miss, there are much better local options around.

It's a tidy and confortable Place and it is also cheap hostel.

Pretty alright really, and well located so a good option if you want to make the most of your time in Hamburg. The 6 bed mixed dorm I stayed in was good, although there was a weird smell of sulphur(?) occasionally, like rotten egg this could just have been my room or something permeating from outside, who knows. The toilet/shower ensuites are a bit of an afterthought and tiny but modern.

Communal areas are decent (including a chill out/working space). The bar looked good but when I was there on weekdays in January was pretty dead and there were no scheduled activities or events at all.

The free walking tour (the guide asked to be tipped, which was odd but somewhat acceptable-ish) was really good and fun.

Overall, a good and reliable choice following Generator s well-known quality and style.

To sleep in order. You pay mainly for the location of the hostel, if you are looking for comfort is poorly served. There was not even a table or two chairs in the rooms. The sanitary facilities in the room are clean, but not recommended for adults people due to minimal dimensions. Then prefer the community facility in the hallway. For those who only go to sleep in the hostel, and otherwise in the city, the hostel is ok.

Cheap hostel with acceptable comfort. Overnight stay in a 8-bed dormitory: bed-rooms are new and good, but the rooms for the bathroom and toilet are a bit small. Breakfast is adequate and delicious.

Really great place!
The bathroom and shower room was little small, but it totally worked.
The place has some great food and drinks. The people working there were really helpful.
Would be nice if you upgraded the "chill" room. I was there quite a lot because it was quiet and sofas. The really long sofa was quite hard haha. But overall a really great experience at this hostel.

We had a two-bed room with private bath for 30 euros per person per night and once breakfasted at Generator Hostel Hamburg. In the following I want to briefly list the pros and cons:

Positive:
+ very central location directly at the main station
+ well soundproofed windows
+ Wi-Fi

Negative:
- The room was tiny, the better had no bedside tables, there was no closet
- The window was not completely open, you could ventilate badly
- the wet cell (hardly to call bath) was extremely small; if you have used sink or shower, then the whole floor was wet
- The shower curtain, certainly originally white, had an unappetizing color and was really brown on the edges
- When we first came into the room, there was a yellow broth in the toilet
- In the middle of the night, someone spoke four times over the loudspeaker in the room. When I pointed it out to the receptionist the next morning, I was fooled with the explanation that it had been a speaker test. Four times. In one night. With stuff like "hello, hello!" and "Here is the bouncer!" (there was no doorman).
- The breakfast for over five euros offered hardly choice. The rolls were rather dry, there were two kinds of sausage, one sort of cheese and three jams, no chocolate spread or honey, no fruit and no tomatoes or cucumbers.

To summarize, the only thing that really speaks for the Generator Hostel is the central location. I would not book again.

Very accessible location, just in front of the central train and bus station. On a large avenue.

The hostel was very good, the rooms were modern and clean. We felt very comfortable.

Has everything you need and the location is great (right next to the main train station). We booked a twin room. It was very small.

It's not bad for short stays. Personally, I wouldn't linger there.

Stay was OK (clean, beds good), but the price for the performance was absolutely too high (80 euros per night for a tiny double room). - Room and bathroom VERY small, with no room to move in the shower, shelf exactly over the tiny sink. <br/> - Good doors, but still quite noisy, even at night. <br/> - Breakfast was not included and costs extra. <br/> - Checkout at 10 (!), late checkout for a usual Time costs extra <br/> - Luggage storage after checkout costs extra <br/> - Service and speed at the front desk also in need of improvement <br/> In sum, we could have checked in for the same money in a much higher quality hotel, value for money Ratio does not fit here.

Nice clean well priced hostel. Accepting of large groups. Conveniently located by HBF with a very large sign at the top of the building making it very easy to locate

Cleanliness leaves much to be desired. Pillows were covered with brown stains, on the walls and curtains also everywhere brown stripes. Our room in intervals very doll smelled of feces. The staff in the lobby makes the impression no desire to have, do not go to guests, the friendliness hapert it too. So who does not value service and friendliness is in good hands. Even if it is a hostel, you can expect cleanliness. I know other hostels that do a lot better

A very pleasant place in the center of Hamburg. We know certain shortcomings (cleanliness, low water pressure in the shower, micro-bathroom as in the train) but the price-quality-location ratio is a plus

Hello Travelers :) i was in Hamburg between 12 th to 15 th 2017 and for this short vacation of mine i have chosen to stay Generator Hamburg. I have to admit i was bit skeptical when i booked the hostel but i can proudly and without any hesitation say that i did the best chose.

First location: perfect location as you come from airport to central station by train which cost you 3.20 euro it takes 25 min the last stop is central station as soon as you step out of the station (depending on which exit ) hostel just in front of you you can not miss it amazing location !

Checking in : Very fast, professionally done smooth and easy.

Staff: Everybody is very friendly ready to help smiling and very please to help you. i have spend some good time of mine at the lobby by using my laptop and had the chance to listen conversations between quest and staff at the reception, they are really helpful and professional!

Room: i was bit worried when i red some reviews that showers and wc are too small (I am a big guy !!!) but i can tell you that they are small however thrust if i managed to take a decent shower and do my business relax and cool place everybody can do that ! my room was very clean all was safe and sound did not have any problem in my room except bit smell was coming from the wc which was not an issue i kept the door close all the time and it did not bother me at all ! Bed was ok i have seen much much much much worst. I always travel with my own shampoo and soap and other staff there is no need to be such a gypsy and complain about if there is shampoo or soap in your room you are not at Hilton :) bring your staff with you !

Breakfast: very nice decent breakfast, not much but enough to give you good kick for the rest of the day!

Atmosphere: Very cool interior design there is always nice music at the lobby, live music some nights, lots of young travelers, families, business man, solo travelers you can meet interesting nice ppl.

There are many options around the hostel when it comes to food you wont be having any difficulties to feed yourself in fact opposite of the hostel is a Turkish area where you can find many kebab and staff restaurants with supermarkets in case you are halal food chaser.

since the hostel next to the main station you can travel everywhere by train easily but try to walk the city and discover by yourself.

Overall ,If you are looking for a accommodation that is reasonable with friendly staff last but not least location wise ideal to all touristic attraction you can rent it and enjoy your vacation like i did :) i will be back again hopefully

Stayed for a night with a group of six, we had a room with three bunks and a shower and separate toilet to ourselves. This is a no-frill experience, but the communal areas are great and the location is as well. St Georg is... interesting, but you re just a few stops on the S-Bahn away from the really nice heart of Hamburg.

Good accommodation in a great location next to the Hauptbahnhof. Rooms quite small and bathroom/shower is tiny, but rooms are quite clean and quiet. Reasonable rates at 49 euro for twin room. Breakfast extra but cheap at 5.50.

Good location.. Good pricing and well managed hostel.. Good for both solo and group travelers..

The service is too slow and too slow, strictly do not check in before 2 o'clock. The staff is messy, and the girl who comes out alone is still changing one.

Overall a good experience, I would stay here again. Nice staff, clean place, nice lounges, super close to the main station, can't really complain about anything really. A city walking tour picked up here too, which was nice.

It's a hostel score as a hotel. The only advantage is the location.

I paid twice for late check-out and twice was forced out of my room at the regular time, even after assurances it would not happen again. there was an additional incident where hostel management refused to let my rooms occupants leave until the owner of an empty beer can, found in the room, was identified (they never were.) I'll not be coming back.

Germany is expensive. location very good right by train and bus station. This is the biggest hostel I have stayed in .. 600 beds. but the quality was very good and facilities too. stayed in 8 bed dorm with separate toilet and shower. which were fine for the size of the dorm. age range from retirees to students. time of year december.

Nice common lounge. Free WIFI. International exchange, friendly staff and good service. I just enjoy working here on the PC something. Joyful atmosphere here. Highly recommended for cost-conscious travelers.

+ Nice looking hostel and rooms! Pretty cost and modern. Breakfast was simple but good. The location was perfect, 5 minutes from Hamburg main station.

- The bathroom was really small and the water pressure was really low. Also the prices in the Cafe were a bit high for a hostel (3 euro for a simple tea)

This was the second Generator Hostel I've stayed in. First Amsterdam, now Hamburg. The Amsterdam location is much fancier, however the price definitely reflects that. The Hamburg location is extremely central though; 2 minute walk to the main train station and Hamburg ZOB (main bus terminal). We just stayed for the night on our way to Copenhagen so I didn't really try out many facilities. Atmosphere was good. The bar was full of people. Didn't try the restaurant here. Room was fine. Bathrooms and sinks are laughably small and I'm short so I can't imagine a normal sized or large person trying to use one.

We were on the graduation trip here. The rooms are very small and in the shower or toilet you can hardly move. The staff is for the most part rude. The booked dinner is a joke for the price. No choice is offered. The breakfast was ok. The only positive thing about the hostel is the location right next to the main station. Despite the good location but not to be recommended.

It is not the cutest Generator in which it was. The shared rooms of 6 have a super tiny bathroom and shower inside. The rest quite clean and tidy. The location in front of the central station is very practical

Hamburg location was amazing, Berlin eastside location was a little more run down but still very clean none the less.

Bedding is fine, and it's conveniently accessible in front of the hbf. Too much traffic noise during the night. No towel or toiletries provided. Very small bathroom. In short, asking price is too much for what you get.

All in all but the cleaning staff is not very attentive as to the condition of the floor in the rooms as well as the cleaning in the bathrooms.
Also, with other travelers we complained about the soap dispenser in our dorm that did not work, the person came to see but did not try while telling us it was full ... Not cool .

The only good thing is in front of the station for quality and price we did not because the tiny bathrooms where while you shower it floods tutto.per cleaning not really top ....

Very good accommodation for teenagers. The breakfast has a good selection but not the best quality.

The location of the hotel is great, right at the Hamburg main station and right in the city.
Check in & check out were easy.
Room was OK, but the bathroom was too small. The shower is also very small and cramped ... Very unpleasant smell. Smell kept coming into the room through the ventilation. In addition, the sink was blocked, but this was quickly fixed. Overall OK for one night, but don't expect too much.

Located in the city center ... Having the central station 20 meters away is very convenient for getting around !! Recommended

The hostel has many rooms, it looks more like a hotel. The rooms are clean, shower and toilet in the room (very small, but there are also bigger showers in the hallways). There's no kitchen and you can't take food or alcohol to your room. They control your bags each evening at the entrance.

A good option if you decide to stop in Hamburg. ZOB five minutes walk from the hostel.

Directly at the bus station of course rather a dirty area, but nice central. The people at the front desk cool, the staff at breakfast for less. Begin to insult, because you get more than one (cheap) orange juice at the same time (for his friends). Also the toilet and the shower are more reminiscent of camping and are very small
