This therapy center has been the best decision I have made to help my son. It is an excellent place, its owners and therapists are professionals and they know what they are doing. In a professional, responsible center and they are very punctual. More than 18 months after starting the therapies, the advances in the short, medium and long term have been wonderful. Language has never been a barrier, they have always taken the time for me to understand everything, they have even explained to me issues related to insurance, which I did not know as being from another country and not knowing the American health system. They have Spanish-speaking staff. What I liked the most is that they always speak the truth, at the end of each therapy session the therapist talks with you for a few minutes to explain what they did and to give you some advice to put into practice. It shows that not only do they know what they are doing, they are passionate about their work. It has been lovely to see how they are individually interested in each child and their needs and how they make the work sessions fun always with the aim of seeing desired results. I recommend this place 100%. Thank you all for the love you put into your work. We love this place !!

Functionabilities is sich an amazing place! They have helped 3 of my kiddos in so MANY ways! My kids are learning confidence large motor skills small motor skills the staff is helping me deal with My daughter who was recently diagnosed with high functioning autism and giving us ideas for several behaviors and learning better social skills. They have also helped my kids with working on handwritting and a million other things! Too many to type! The owners August and Kaylynn are over the top amazing! They are so positive and kind and helpful with making your childs journey their priority and the child feeling successful! If you have any issies they will make sure they are resolved and that you are satisfied. The front desk staff call your child by name and are friendly to the parents! Hands down for a great experience if you bring your kids to Functionabilities! Very positive experience for our family!!!! Thank you!!!
It would be impossible for me to put into words how much FUNctionabilities has changed my sons and our entire families lives for the better. My son has been receiving OT here for nearly a year, 3x a week. Even with a 50 minute drive on each end, it is more than worth it. My son has learned so many new skills in therapy to help him manage his sensory issues. His attitude, behavior and how he responds to the world around him have improved remarkably over the last year.
The owners, therapists and front desk staff are all so helpful and kind. They all know my son by name and welcome him at therapy with a smile and a greeting every time we come. They make him feel special and valued.
Another word about the therapists- this is a PLAY therapy gym. Climbing walls, rope swings, foam pit, trampolines, etc. The therapists are actively engaged with the children during their session, playing with them, pushing them to try new things, and helping them develop coordination and new skills that they need to be successful in daily life.
Sadly, our health insurance does not currently cover treatment for OT, but FUNctionabilities does have a cash plan for clients without insurance coverage. They have been flexible and helpful in putting together a plan for us that allows us to pay with HSA funds. Therapy is expensive, but necessary for many kids. And when you find a place that offers a necessary service in a truly excellent way, you know you've lucked out.
My son truly looks forward to every therapy session, because he knows how much better he feels when he's done. The cumulative effects of his therapy have surpassed my hopes and expectations.
If you're worried about COVID, they have been VERY on top of this issue from day one. The entire staff wear masks 100% of the time. The gym area is sanitized between each session, and the front desk area/bathroom are constantly being cleaned throughout the day. Cleanliness is a huge priority for them, and it shows.
In the midst of a long and frustrating year (2020) with so many activities and plans cancelled or changed, going to therapy was a huge bright spot for our family and something we all looked forward to each week.
FUNctionabilities really cares for the kiddos they treat. The staff is kind, attentive, transparent, and happy to answer your questions. Therapy is never cheap, this is no secret, but every penny is worth it for a child to get the help they need!
Do not bring your children here if your family has any medcal problems or if anything bad is going on in your life ... I found out my niece is in liver failure yesterday and forgot all about functionabilities due to dealing with family and they had called I told them I could still come in but the person I spoke to said he would just take Jordyn off the schedule and said nothing about me being charged and then today I found out my account is over drafti g due to them take more money out then supposed to and now I have deal with calling my bank and this over draft fee and calling my family to relay bad news that my niece has gotten worse over night ... Apparently functionabilities Trump's someone dying to ...
The staff is amazing!!! Everyone goes above and beyond what is expected. The therapists designate homework furthering the child's success! They give short updates after every session.
Clean professional and friendly. We love the staff here. My son is making progress in many areas and we are delighted. I was impressed with their facilities.
I have two sides of experience to draw from; as someone who has had a family member attend therapy here and as an employee. My nephew came here and absolutely loved it! He loved being here, the therapists were fantastic with him and he improved a monumental amount. They know what they're doing and they genuinely care for the kids they treat. They do everything in their power to help them and it shows! If you are questioning therapy for your child, don't hesitate to bring them here. As an employee, it's an amazing place to work. You are a valued part of the team and they make sure you know that. The environment is one of hard work but also having fun while you do it and we work together as a team to accomplish our goals. From all sides, FUNctionabilities is amazing!
Like the other negative reviews, I was very surprised and disappointed to be kept in the dark about what was happening during my child s evaluation and therapy. My son is three years old and would have felt safe and confident in the facility if I had been allowed to go in to the therapy room with him. Instead he felt scared and cried in a new place with strangers, not knowing where he was or where I was or what was going to happen. First impressions matter and set expectations with young children, especially those with special needs. I know my son would have been happy to work with the therapists if he could just see me reading in the corner of the room. But they did not ask me the best way to get him to go happily in the room, and just did it their way. I was surprised that they made no effort to establish a relationship of trust with my son before doing things with him that would require a great deal of trust. Similarly, I felt that they asked for a high level of trust and commitment, time and money from me before doing anything to earn or establish that trust. I was looking for training on how to be involved and help my child with his sensory issues at home. It was soon apparent that this was not the place for that. Perhaps they are better with older children who don t mind being dropped off, with parents who are content to sit in the waiting room. I found the parent education I was seeking to be sorely lacking in this environment. I asked if they would at least consider letting me watch my child s therapy on camera or through a window, and they said, We will never do that. That was not okay with me. We went ahead and went back for a therapy visit a few days later since I d already paid for it and wanted to give it another chance, but again, instead of reassuring my son or finding some way to ease the transition into the therapy room without me, they just scooped him up and shut the door. My son is open to most people and new environments, but was miserable in the therapy session and uncharacteristically clingy and unhappy afterwards. We did not go back because the lack of transparency just didn t feel right to me, and their methods did not feel developmentally appropriate for a three year old. We have since sought OT services elsewhere that involve me in the therapy and create an environment of trust with my son, enabling him to feel safe and confident and open to the therapy and therapists, and make tremendous progress. It s Maslow s hierarchy of needs: if a child doesn t feel safe and happy, he s not going to learn. I hope that Functionabilities will make more efforts to establish trust with young children and their parents so they can feel safe and happy, because we would have loved to use their beautiful facility under different circumstances. If they are unwilling to rethink their no parents past this point policy, I suggest they make it known explicitly to parents before they come. That way, the parents for whom such a policy is a deal breaker can avoid spending unnecessary time, money, and disappointment at a facility that will not accommodate them.
My two children, ages 9 and 12, have struggled with various motor and sensory issues, including issues with food textures, the feel and fit of fabrics, and attention disorder. I tried conventional therapy, which helped with some things, but ultimately didn't touch the motor and sensory issues. When our family therapist recommended medication for my kids, I knew I needed to look elsewhere. Finally, my sister found FUNctionabilities Occuational Therapy services, and we both visited to meet the therapists and have our kids assessed. After working with my children for about five months, my kids are doing so great! They're actually enjoying foods like salad, and also are doing much better with their motor skills and attention. Obviously, there is still more to do, but I am extremely pleased and very grateful for the assistance and quality of care received through the staff and therapists at FUNctionabilities. Also, my kids LOVE to go to therapy. They say its great fun. I highly recommend them.
My son struggled with a multitude of issues that no one seemed to understand let alone diagnose. Everyone wanted to label him autistic and be done with it. He was extremely delayed with his speech and therefore had a hard time expressing himself. He was also very stubborn when it came to transitions. The people at FUNctionabilities were the only ones who listened to my concerns and didn't put my son into the "autistic box". They provide therapy tailored to his actual disabilities and focus on ways for him to overcome his shortcomings permanently. Their approach is by far the best I've encountered and would recommend them to anyone. Anyone struggling with getting answers should reach out to FUNctionabilities.
My daughter has been at FUNctionabilities for a while now and it's amazing how much she's improved. The therapist are amazing and the owners have gone above and beyond for her and our family. The children are their main priority, and it shows in everything they do. I don't know where we'd be without them. My daughter loves this place.
Ok, so here is the thing. When, as a parent, you are thrust into the world of special needs, you find yourself with this constant inner battle--
Am I doing enough? Is this the right place? How can I best help my kid?
And so on, and so on... Seriously. Special needs is hard.
But finding Functionabilities was like finding a soft place to land. They go above and beyond to help you, and your kid. They become your friends. They fight for you with insurances (and teach you what to do so that the fight isn't so hard on your end). Their entire staff is just amazing. And then, to top it off, the growth I've seen with my kid makes all the other wonderful things I've said second place. He is thriving with their help.
I could not recommend them enough. They really are that good.
One star too many. Fill in the blank evaluation geared towards making money off vulnerable parents. We took our one year old for feeding therapy there. They had us do all the censory and cognitive evaluations that concluded that our child doesn't know how to sit, crawl, or walk, is a danger to himself, has a cognitive function of a 4 months old, and recommended 50k worth of therapy. Mind you, our child is fine, he cruises around the house, gets up on his own, walks holding to the furniture, gets in every drawer he can, plays with everything he can get his hands on, and says a few words. We got our baby to a different professional who didn't have any concerns and was puzzled by the evaluation we got at FUCTIONabilities. I know that therapy is great for any child. And I am sure OTs at this place do a fantastic job and help loads of kids. However, I felt scammed and taken advantage of. If you have a choice, choose a different provider. While these people seem like they care about your child, it is all about money. Their services are expensive and they have strict late fee policies. Also, they don't let you see what they are doing with your child or be there. Don't waste your time and money on these guys. They aren't worth it.
stopped coming here cause they kept playing the same video out in the waiting room & the late fees & cancellation fees are ridiculous. I really like the gym though & some of the staff is sweet .
all you need to do is look at Alissa Lindgren, Emily Baile, Riz Bette and Candace Keller reviews. please take a look at them before you even consider this place, especially Emily and Alissa. I the last 3 months this place has had 9 reviews. 6 of them 1 star reviews. two of the 1 stars are for billing issues and the other 4 you need to read.
these people know how I feel about them. and my wife has always supported them even when I disagreed with them about how much they are actually helping our son compared to how much we are actually helping our son. because my wife supported them so much. I let my son stay there and yes my wife and I got into some arguments about it. then I write this review and the first thing they do is disenroll my kid from their program. and an admin person calls and tells my wife, your husband has to take down his negative review before they will consider taking your son back. my wife tried to call the owners and they won't return her call. my wife even went to the office to get our son's records but the owners were too busy to make a copy of my son's records. funny thing at that sametime there was another parent having an argument with them and cancelling all future appointments. the parent looked very angry and that parent has been going there for more then a year, I believe.
from what I have seen so far and this is my opinion. if you make these two owners mad, they will get back at you even if they have to hurt your kids. I only say this because they claim to have helped my son and care about him so much. How dedicated they are to every single children that comes through their doors. so they decide to kick my son out and stopped talking to my wife that has supported them from the very beginning. all they do is about their ego. " if it is not our way then get out." that should be their moto.
When we went to a new place. We had that place tried to communicate with functionability. The new place tried to get people broke from them to see where My son was at. But They would not give any information to us the new place actually had to quote the HIPPA laws to them and they finally relented and gave us all the paperwork.
I worked there as a therapist a couple years ago and ended up quitting after only 2-3 months because the owners were dishonest with me. I loved the idea/style of the practice methods...for most of the kids there it could be really good. The owners are talented therapists but, as word of caution, they got really nasty and aggressive when on their bad side.
FUNctionabilities has been amazing for me and my family! I've been with them for over a year. The owners are passionate and have worked so hard to create this amazing place. I've never seen a kiddo who doesn't love therapy here or who doesn't improve tremendously while attending therapy here. I would urge any parent thinking of putting their kiddo into occupational or speech therapy to come to FUNctionabilities. I have never met more honest business owners or therapist and I trust them 100% to do what is best for my kiddo!
Very cute facility. I wish we would of done are research though before we went. We scheduled a therapist visit. They insisted on doing there own diagnosis when i got there even though therapist at pcmc had done one less then a month ago. ( Claiming there's would be much more accurate). They refused to let me be with my child or witness any of this I was then given a quick tour saw no other kids. I was then asked if I wanted my son to have the good, better, or best diagnosis. The good diagnosis meant I couldn't leave without paying $810, they hadn't even billed the insurance yet or finished re diagnosing my son. They are obviously in it for the money and nothing else. It was also a nightmare canceling his next appointment. I cant wait to see the nightmares that follow.
My daughter absolutely loves this place. She struggled with her s words and after about 2 months she could finally pronounce her S. Thanks so much for the fun environment! Only thing I do wish is that I could be able to see my child through a window or even a TV screen to make sure she is safe.
I hope that parents will take the time to research this company before leaving their special needs child unsupervised in this facility. I can t speak to the value of their services, and hopefully this was only a customer service error from an irresponsible employee trying to cover up the fact that she was enjoying her lunch break on other people s time. The considerate thing to do would be to at least leave a note on the door in your absence. I m grateful we have clear documentation to share with the credit card company if they actually do attempt to make the illegal charge she threatened me with over the phone. When we arrived at the time we were told to be there, the building was locked up and all the lights were off. I also have audio recording of the receptionist insisting that she was there at 1:32, yet I have documentation of two phone calls in a row at 1:33 that weren t returned until 1:39. I had already left by this point and was on my way home. She asked that I turn back around instead of making an effort to reschedule in light of their mistake and lack of communication. That s pretty unbelievable coming from a company that has such strict policies with regards to their time.
Honestly, even before this happened, I had a few red flags go up. It s in an odd location, tucked back in an industrial complex with signs on the windows saying that no camera phones are allowed inside the building and that parents must wait in their car during their child s treatment. That really strikes me as odd and I m definitely going to make a few phone calls to make sure there s not something wrong going on here. I was truly shocked by the whole situation.
They don't tell you how much they are going to charge you up front. Take your kid then hold him hostage until you pick one of the outrageous payment for the time spent and make you sign for for. Literally would not give me back my child after I found out what the cost was going to be! Don't let them take your kid!
My son is happy when he comes out of therapy. The therapists are friendly and knowledgeable. They explain what they are doing and why and are happy to answer my questions. Couldn t be happier!
Functionabilities, specifically OT August, has helped my son in so many ways. He is excited to go to "therapy with August" 2x a week and has a blast, yet is appropriately challenged. We brought him to Functionabilities for aggressive pushing and saw immediate improvement after 2 weeks. He has been attending for several months now and has made tremendous improvements. Not only has his aggressive behavior been redirected appropriately, but he has improved in many other areas, including speech, gross and fine motor, and overall communication. The therapists truly love their patients and try their hardest to meet their patients' needs.
I have done therapy with my kids through many different agency and I am here to say theses guys are top grade. I love how well they relate to my kids and how flexible they are with our very busy schedule. I have had no problem making our frist appointment and never was place on insane waiting list. They do an amazing job listing to my concern and help us find away to work through them together with our family and our children's school. I love Kaylyn and August I wouldn't go anywhere else.
I do not often write reviews. However, seeing as this place deals with children, I want to make sure other parents are warned. My wife brought our 13 month old son here because he would occasionally pocket food. They do not let you watch your kid with the Occupational Therapist. And before they give you the results, you have to watch a video, trying to sell you more on their program. And surprise they wanted us in the VIP Program and to bring our son to them for 4 days a week. They made it sound like our 13 month old was a danger to himself, because he needs to hold on to things while he is learning to walk. I had a very shady feeling, and told them we were going to get a second opinion. Which they seemed offended at. When we got the second opinion, by a much higher rated, and more experienced therapist, the results were our son is exactly where he needs to be. And the new therapist laughed because they gave our son below average on on Fine Motor Skills. Which our new therapist joked, that he could not believe a 1 year old could not sign his name. (Our son can and does pick up small objects) They use a standard fill in the blank assessment, and want you to sign on pricing, even though they say they wont charge you... Then why have you sign? Seems like the poor reviews have been going on for years, and we wish we would have checked before we even went in.
Post note! I just read a few other reviews on here about people having the same experience i did. I wish I wouldve read their reviews before I had gone to our appointment. Learn from my mistake. This place is sneaky and unethical!!!
I was referred to Functionabilites by my pediatrician for Occupational and Speech Therapy for my 3 year old son. We started going in October 2020. I was very pleased with how organized and thorough they were when we came in for his evaluation. I like that they created a program that is flexible and accommodates to my child and his needs. My son goes 4 times a week for Occupational and Speech therapy for about an hour and a half. We have now been going for about 3 months and I can not tell you how much my son has grown and developed. He is behind developmentally and was recently diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. When we started with Functionabilites he was not able to communicate his needs and his wants. He threw tantrums A LOT. He was lacking social skills. Now after 3 months he is starting to tell me what he wants, he transitions a lot better and doesn't throw as many fits and he interacts with his family a lot more. He still has a lot of learning to go but I have seen my son develop and grow so much in these last 3 months than I have in the last year and a half. We have been doing Occupational and Speech therapy through other entities as we have moved around a lot and Functionabilites by far has blown these others out of the water. I have loved their customer service. I have loved getting to know the therapists and the staff. They all GENUINELY love and care about my son and his well being. I love the fact that the therapists have degrees and have experience in these therapies. I am grateful for Functionabilites and all it has to offer.
STAY AWAY!!!! All of the reviews are true. The good and the bad. Go somewhere else if you want to avoid financial heartache and bad customer service. You don't get to go back with your child. They have strict policies and high fees for every little thing. They don't care. They're in it for the money. DO NOT GO HERE. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH.
Very unethical place. I took my daughter in to see if they would be a fit for her therapy. She has hemiplexia and cortical vision impairment. Due to her disability they all acknowledged they weren't a fit and didn't have they right tools to evaluate her. Afterwhich, they tried to bill me over $900 for an "evaluation". She asked for a drink of water, then on the bill charged $180 for a "swallow study". What a farce. Beware!
WARNING DO NOT USE FUNctionabilities!!! This facility claimed they accepted Cigna insurance and when Cigna advised my out of pocket portion was only $40.00 for my childs testing this provider decided to withhold a claim from the insurance and stick me with a $1200.00 bill. Provider has been advised any claim sent through my insurance will be paid when showing amount owed on my EOB. My $1200.00 is still in dispute with Cigna since April 2018. Because I disputed my bill the provider advised I would have to pay all expenses out of pocket if I wanted my child to continue therapy. I have asked to be provided a full billing summary Of all services provided and of all payments made to function abilities. I was advised by Tracy the office manager I would need to fill out their release form and have it notarized. What kind of facility has you notarize documentation for a release of medical billing information? A month later July 19th 2018 to be specific Function ability's ran my card on file with out authorization for $300. Not only did the company run my card for $300 there were other attempts made to see how much money was on my card to run. This company is involved in insurance fraud credit card fraud and should not be used. If you choose to use function ability's for your child's therapy I highly recommend reading all of your documentation and asking questions before your card is placed on file with them. I also recommend to keep an attorney in your back pocket to read any documentation sent from function ability's. I highly recommend taking your child to primary children's where billing is done correctly and accurately and you are sent bills in the mail and charged the correct co pay. Function abilities required me pay an additional $35 facility fee each time you bring your child because they couldn't set up their contract correctly with Cigna. Function abilities is a rip off do not use their service. GO ELSEWHERE!!!!
This place is amazing! The staff are so friendly, the therapists are excellent and the facility is clean and excellent for therapy sessions. My daughter LOVES coming here and begs to come everyday. I've also seen more improvements with her than I ever expected in such a short time
I hate to give a bad review because the people are great but the billing and scheduling is horrible. I asked for a statement for each month and they could not do that for me. Then after being a patient for two months I got to see a print out of some charges from a couple days. I knew I was over paying and wanted to track it. They said their system only gives statement for people that owe money not if you have a credit or don t have a balance for that would have to make something for me. Also if you went back late because they were talking to other patients and that made you 45 minutes time go over I would get charged for the extra time even though I had no control over when my kid went back or came back to me. About the scheduling they wanted to have my kid come twice a week and I was ok with doing that but I want to be able to come at least with a day in between but they said they could not do this because they have to many patients and I could only come Wed Thur because they had no other openings. So that is what I did when I wanted to refer someone here and said they could only available the same time as me how would that work. They said it s ok we have room and can make it work. How is it they have space for new people and not for me who is already a patient. Great place but to much trouble I just took my kid some where else and it has worked out great.
We have been to a few different doctors and therapists with our little boy, O. We have gotten bandaid fix after bandaid fix but nothing was genuinely helping us or him. FUNctionabilities has made the biggest difference in our lives! He loves going and uses the skills he is learning all the time at home. My second child, H, does not have the same sensory processing challenges that O does, but I want to take him to FUNctionabilities simply because of the confidence they have instilled little O. He is so much happier and willing to try new things. Every child would benefit from FUNctionabilities, no matter what their challenges are.
Although i thought the therapists were knowledgeable. I wanted to know what my child has and have a home action plan. You do not go back and watch what they do, the assignments I were given to do at home was being consistent in doing timeouts for behavior we didn t want and redirect. That was after me asking what can i do at home. I tried really hard to understand what i would be paying for services, i have amazing insurance that is a 90/10 coverage, but for testing and a couple visits my total was still over 280.00 plus i paid another 100 in copays. I did their lowest evaluation to avoid high costs i wasn t prepared for. Hope this helps someone avoid in expected costs. It is probably best to find someone in network.
Functionabilities pediatric therapy is been an amazing experience and exited place to be with my little one they are very professional and fun therapies to deal with very understandable of what every child need. When we star see in my little one did not speak at all with the time he star point in , doing sign language up to this date he is able to speak counting his numbers, saying his colors etc....Now he looks forward to get on the road then he knows that it is teraphy day! He will Say to me Is Teraphy day Mommy...! Yes we love Functionabilities Pediatric....the whole team is Family where u as a parent and u little one are number One as soon u walk in to their Care....!
We love Functionabilites! The staff is friendly, the therapists are all amazing, helpful and loving. My son goes for occupational therapy and has made great progress while having so much fun.
The therapists and staff are phenomenal. The services my children receive have made incredible improvements in their abilities and well being. I am so grateful for FUNctionabilities.
Functionabilities has changed my families lives. Our son has made huge progress in a short six months. He loves going to therapy. He has gone from being terrified to try new things to excited for a new adventure. I will tell everyone I know how grateful I am to Functionabilities. These people are top notch!!
They lie to you over the phone just to get you in there. Then can't take FSA. Don't bill your insurance like they should. Next thing you know you owe 500$ or more to them for literally NOTHING! Do not recommend this place for anyone! Go elsewhere!
I have had the opportunity to tour this care center as well as the pleasure to meet with the staff. Everyone here is so caring and compassionate. They are so focused on the kiddos and their success.
My son has been receiving occupational therapy with FUNctionabilities for about 8 weeks. I have seen so much improvement in both his behavior and demeanor over this time. He's better able to properly handle challenging situations and sensory overloads. Kaylyn and August are amazing and are always willing to listen to my concerns. The homework has been easy to do at home and has contributed to his success. My son loves going to the "therapy gym"! I would highly recommend FUNctionabilities to any parent who is concerned with issues of Sensory Integration, ADHD, ADD or Autism spectrum disorders.
This place was simply wonderful for our son! The OTs see your child as they are and not with all the labels that are usually attached to them. The progress that my son made while going for a bit over a year is something that I will be forever grateful for.
We had a late diagnosis of ASD with my son being non-verbal up until the age of four. We had no idea he was as severe of a diagnosis as he ended up being, because he seemed to develop normally aside from a speech delay. The doctor that we saw up at UDAC told us that if he was her son she would take him to FUNctionabilities, because of the amazing results she was seeing come out of there. I didn't know where to start, or where to turn as my head was spinning with all of this new information just given to us, but I could remember the name FUNctionabilities in Draper. I called them within a week after the diagnosis, and have never questioned even one experience there since then. They took their time with evaluations, there is no such thing as cookie cutter therapy here, it is completely tailored to each, and every child I've seen walk through their doors. The entire staff knows every child's name, and they greet them with a hello, and a wave and even sometimes a hug if the kids want it. The entire staff is aware of every child's needs, even if it isn't their specific therapist, so that if there is ever a need to cover for one another they all know where every child is at in their development and how to help them that day seamlessly. They are completely transparent in everything they do and what their mission statement is. It's not just endless appointments that you don't understand what the long term goal is. Before they will even start therapy with your child they make sure the parents, guardians, and caretakers all understand exactly what the goals are, and that they show you their commitment to helping your family. Our lives are completely changed, because within a single month my son went from a vocabulary of less than 20 words, to parroting everything we asked him to. He started looking us in the eye when requesting what he wants. He is even learning patience and how to wait, where as before everything was a sensory trigger, and a meltdown. Being in public would give all of us anxiety about what might happen next, but now with FUNctionabilities guidance and therapy we are a whole new family. Nothing in the process of ASD, and its subsequent therapies is fast, this entire process is slow and requires patience. No matter where we would have taken our boy it would have been an insurance approval nightmare, and financial burden, but the admin staff at FUNctionabilities has worked with our family and our situation through every step. They are our advocates with approvals, escalations, and all the headaches that have come with paperwork required by insurance. There's nothing anyone can do about what we do and do not have covered from our insurance, but FUNctionabilities knows the federal and state laws, and regulations to help you navigate being your child's advocate for services. Please give them a chance to help your children, because as I stated before they have completely changed our lives and we are a whole new family no longer struggling to help our little guy. They always run on time, and respect the fact that your child deserves their entire therapy session to be devoted towards their individual needs. They helped us to have a regular set schedule, and I love every therapist who has worked with us, whether that's speech, or OT. The owners personally know every child and visit with the parents constantly to check in and make sure all is well. I want to give my son the best chance he can get in this life, and starting therapy off with FUNctionabilities was the best thing for us, and I will forever be grateful for all they have done for us. Give them a chance to show you what they can do for your family too. Picture of my cutie pie to catch your attention ;)
Amazing! Committed, knowledgeable, professionals. Can help with anything from behaviors to special needs to communication and everything in between. I cannot say enough how amazing they are! Bring your kiddos, stick with it, follow the recommendations, you will see amazing improvements!
I am very torn in my feelings about Functionabilities. They are brilliant therapists and take an approach that my son felt was very fun, but also seemed to really help him. On the one hand, I feel a debt of gratitude. However, their business management and billing practices are questionable at best and unethical at worst, meaning I cannot give them a whole-hearted recommendation. A few examples from our year+ there:
1. At a certain point, we paid to have a reassessment done because we felt he'd accomplished his initial goals and the current sessions had lost any sense of purpose. During that reassessment, we expressed a number of concerns about how his treatment plan was being implemented. We were assured everything would be addressed and that, due to the reassessment, we'd be moving towards defined goals again. We decided to continue forward. A few months later, they made a major change to their administration and billing and as part of it, wanted me to sign on to a new treatment framework that had nothing in common with the one we'd agreed to only months before. When I asked to talk to Kaylyn about the previously expressed concerns in light of the new plan, I was told that to do so I would have to schedule a consultation at the going rate of $300/hr (I kid you not). I protested that I JUST paid for the consultation/reassessment a few months ago and none of the promises were being met, but they wouldn't budge. I finally informed them that I was going to have to consult with my wife and determine if they were the right provider for us still. A day later, Kaylyn was able to call me to address the concerns without need for the consultation. The fee was, in essence, a deliberate wall thrown in my path that only moved when my business would be lost.
2. During the same big administrative change, and due to my expressed concerns, I initially figured I'd just finish out my pre-paid 16 session package and then be done. When I expressed that to them, I was informed that unless I signed the new billing plan, they could not continue to provide me service. (Note that the new billing agreement was completely irrelevant to the out-of-pocket, 16 session package that I had been using, and that I still had 6 sessions left on a pre-paid package.) They insisted they couldn't provide any further service unless I signed, and assured me they'd refund my 6 sessions if I didn't sign. About 4 months later, coincidentally also with 6 sessions left on a separate 16-session pre-paid package, I was facing yet another stupid administrative obstacle and felt that we were receiving diminishing returns on our sessions. I decided to discontinue the therapy and asked to have the 6 sessions refunded (as they'd offered to do previously). I was informed that, because it was bought as part of a package, they couldn't just refund a portion of it. (Again, it felt like unnecessary obstacles were being deliberately created to force me into the path they preferred.) Ultimately, they worked some invoice magic that resulted in me getting back about $200 less than what would have been the fairest, most logical way of doing it.
I provide these two concrete examples as just two of many, in the hopes that if you decide to engage the services of Functionabilities, you'll be aware of the kind of business decisions and practices you'll almost certainly find yourself encountering. I wish that the brilliance of their therapy could be unencumbered by the poor business management decisions that currently hamstring the practice.
I am really disappointed that I have to leave this review. We have been going here for about 3+ months and spend over $1,000 a month on therapy with this company. My son has a week immune system and gets sick often. I was only allowed 2 cancellations for this year and I gave them a doctors note for the two occasions he has been ill. He had the flu and this time it was strep throat. They want me to pay $40 in addition to the $127 I pay each time we come for our cancellation. I can not do business this way and have canceled our future appointments. They were unwilling to wave the fee even with a doctors note and told me the owners would probably not call me back and would tell me the same thing. Regardless of what they would tell me I feel it s good customer service to call their clients back at their convenience if they have an issue. I was and am very disappointed. We did see progress with our child but when we are already spending so much money and they refuse to give us more than 2 cancelations a year, I refuse to do business that way and we will find another therapist.
I have been in and out of therapy places since my son was 13 months old. I have seen my son regress and suffer when attending other places. He has made more progress in the last 6 months than he has ever made collectively in his 9 years of life. The owners are deeply passionate about what they do. Together the therapists and owners provide individualized care in a loving and FUN environment. I now have three kids attending therapy for various reasons and the name doesn t lie it is FUN! My kids thoroughly enjoy their time in the ninja warrior style gym. We couldn t be happier with our decision to go here and I highly recommend you do the same!
At 4 years old, my son was speaking at a 2 year old level. He seemed a bit rigid and lacked social integration and self regulation. Our attempts to get a diagnosis were leading us down dead ends. Understanding ways to help our son seemed impossible and we felt desperate. After 2 months of therapies he was speaking more, self regulating and felt more confident in his ability to function in his world. The team at functionabilities met us with compassion, clarity and confidence as we engaged in supporting our sons growth. They have gone above and beyond to meet our chaotic schedules and have given clear guidelines about how to help our son at home. Couldn t have made a better choice and we love functionabilites. Good luck all in finding the right fit for your child!!
This place is a disgrace to what they set out to do and accomplish. I have had my son take at least 15 sessions here throughout last summer. As far as what they do, I dont know because there is no way to tell what is going on. They take your kid way back behind closed doors, and as far as progress is concerned he remained at the same level. But that is not my concern so much, I have had Blue Cross Blue Shield Insurance tell me that this particular facility is not considered an actual 'pediatric therapy', so the initial evaluation fee had be payed out of pocket. This facility has no qualified employees that can be considered a pediatric therapist on a medical level. Their billing practices are a complete shame, they billed me a late fee, for showing up late, in addition to the regular fee and only gave my son the remaining amount of time when we arrived. There is no justification for this practice of billing. Why should I pay a late fee if im not going to get the full timed session ? And i was only late by 7 mins, shame on all of you. This place is operated as a business 1st, and then anything else. Typical !
We have been going here for over a year. I have 2 children going and I can see a lot of improvement. It is stressful that there are fees for canceling the day of or if you are very late, but they only get paid if they work. They have been very understanding if I have an emergency and have to cancel. August is over insurance and she has gone to cort a few time for my kids to get the insurance company to pay what they said they would pay. It's nice not to have to worry about that. It is worth the 30 minute drive for us.
Staff is always so nice and very knowledgable. I have gotten numerous compliments of the difference close friends and family have seen in my son. We have been to other places for occupational therapy but this place by far has been the best. My son is willing to participate without my husband or I going into the back with him and feeling like a big boy.
If I could give this place negative stars I would! If anyone recommends this place! RUN! It is so shady! We first walked in thinking we were getting a consultation and then all of the sudden they want you to fork over a ton of money! We got that worked out and continued to take our daughter, trying to do what is best for her! They don't let you watch at all which is annoying because first of all your doctor asks what they are doing and you don't know and 2nd you kinda want to see if your child is progressing! They take your credit card and put it on file! And literally no joke charge it basically anytime they want! Ours was a debit card and we live on a budget! They would just take an extra $140 dollars and come up with BS on why they took it! And when you have a problem the customer service sucks! They don't try to fix it!
My 7 year old loves this place! He calls it his "appointment to play." It definitely makes it easier that he wants to go. He has made so many improvements in every aspect of his life that wouldn't have been possible without Functionabilities. I'm amazed at his progress. We couldn't do it without the therapists here. We love them all.
We were less than impressed with Functionabilities. After 6 months of therapy there we were very happy to leave and have been thrilled with our new therapist who actually cares about my child and helping him progress instead of focusing on constantly pushing for more classes each week in order to make more $.
Two of my children have been receiving services at Functionabilities for about a year and a half. I have been so impressed with the care that they have received and the progress they have made since starting. The staff has been nothing but professional and all of them are very knowledgable in the field. Kaylyn and August, the owners, always stay involved with their therapy. I am really like the fact that the therapists talk to us after each session about what the kids worked on and things that we can be working on at home. The staff at Functionabilities have become like family like us and I know the kids would not be where they are today without them.
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! We have had AMAZING results at FUNctionabilities. Our child has not only improved immensely from attending therapy, she is excelling in school and socially. They have greatly surpassed our expectations. We originally came to FUNctionabilities for help with some behavioral concerns, anxiety, and ADHD. We tried a few different places from learning centers, to other occupational therapy places and were sorely disappointed by the lack of concern for our child. There is NO other OT place out there like it. Their gym is huge and they concentrated 100% on MY child. They individualized our experience from day one and made sure they were treating MY child's deficits. Every child is different. Reading the negative review that some people have posted makes me sad at the state of our world. This company is ALL about the KIDDOS FIRST! If any of the people who have written reviews about THEIR insurance not paying or having to pay a fee because THEY were late or canceled looked beyond themselves, they would see what this place can do for their child. I'm so glad we brought out daughter here.
This company is very Greedy and has a very Misleading Cancelation Policy. I was told over the phone several times VERBALLY and by contract that if I had a same day cancellation, I would be charged $40. I cancelled the same day and was told it was an $80 cancellation fee!!! On top of that, the contract that I signed said that I would be charged $40 for the same day cancellation. Nowhere in the contract did it mention $80. I asked the manager to tell me which page it said $80 and she couldn t tell me. She herself told me it was $40 when I was setting us the appointments. I told her 2 different pages where it said $40. I was fine with paying the $40, but not okay with the $80. I disputed only $40 and they fought it with one email (which at the top had a large video for me to watch and several large tabs to fill out intake forms), reminding me in small letters at the bottom (which I didn t read) of the appointment where it only said to avoid a $80 fee please cancel 24 hours before. Their dispute said that I was reminded several times through email and that I clearly understood.I feel so scammed this is the first negative review I ve ever written on google. It s greedy and misleading after having several long conversations with several staff members when they would tell me it s a $40 cancellation fee, when they could have told me it s an $80 fee. It s dishonest and very sly of them to send out an email with large tabs and a video and then claim I read the small letters at the bottom. They also said they are allowed to change their cancellation policy by law. It s very dishonest and misleading. They should have just gone along with the contract and phonecall reminders. I do not recommend this company and am reporting them to the BBB because I feel scammed and lied to. They said if I rescheduled the $40 would go towards an appointment, and at that point I didn t want to deal with them. I m a mother of 3 children under 5 years old, and 2 being on the spectrum. I also didn t like the negative reviews about them not allowing parents to watch the therapists or even look through a window. My husband and I were very disappointed with the outcome of this experience.
In the short time my daughter has been attending, I have watched her blossom from an anxious, meltdown-prone, picky eater, to a confident, active, eager child who is more willing, and even excited, to try new things and enjoy her childhood. We love FUNctionabilities!
Had a horrible experience at functionabilities. I would not recommend to anyone. The owner and manager refuse to even talk to me to resolve an issue and refuse to show me video of what they did when testing my child. Do not go here!!! I came to them for help and left with nothing but a hole in my bank account.
We brought our son here for a Speech Therapy evaluation, paid what we were told was due at the time, did NOT receive paperwork of any kind about the evaluation, and then were sent a bill saying we owe them more than what was agreed upon. These people are extremely unprofessional! They sneakily tacked on extra "services" we weren't aware of until we received a bill in the mail yesterday. We don't even know what, if anything, was done since they don't allow parents to be in the room with them while they do the evaluation. We only received an email with a temporary link to the so-called evaluation. We expected so much more from all of the positive reviews we found raving about this place. Unfortunately, we were met with extreme disappointment. We do NOT recommend this place for ST services.
Our family loves FUNctionabilities, we call it the fun place. We have four children who receive either speech or OT here, but it doesn't feel like therapy, because it is so fun. Kalyn and August really take the time to get to know each kid and my kids know that they are cared about. We have seen great improvements in communication, functional skills, coordination, motor skills and maybe most importantly confidence. I would and have recommended FUNctionabilities to any parent looking for OT or speech for their kids.
