We had a late diagnosis of ASD with my son being non-verbal up until the age of four. We had no idea he was as severe of a diagnosis as he ended up being, because he seemed to develop normally aside from a speech delay. The doctor that we saw up at UDAC told us that if he was her son she would take him to FUNctionabilities, because of the amazing results she was seeing come out of there. I didn't know where to start, or where to turn as my head was spinning with all of this new information just given to us, but I could remember the name FUNctionabilities in Draper. I called them within a week after the diagnosis, and have never questioned even one experience there since then. They took their time with evaluations, there is no such thing as cookie cutter therapy here, it is completely tailored to each, and every child I've seen walk through their doors. The entire staff knows every child's name, and they greet them with a hello, and a wave and even sometimes a hug if the kids want it. The entire staff is aware of every child's needs, even if it isn't their specific therapist, so that if there is ever a need to cover for one another they all know where every child is at in their development and how to help them that day seamlessly. They are completely transparent in everything they do and what their mission statement is. It's not just endless appointments that you don't understand what the long term goal is. Before they will even start therapy with your child they make sure the parents, guardians, and caretakers all understand exactly what the goals are, and that they show you their commitment to helping your family. Our lives are completely changed, because within a single month my son went from a vocabulary of less than 20 words, to parroting everything we asked him to. He started looking us in the eye when requesting what he wants. He is even learning patience and how to wait, where as before everything was a sensory trigger, and a meltdown. Being in public would give all of us anxiety about what might happen next, but now with FUNctionabilities guidance and therapy we are a whole new family. Nothing in the process of ASD, and its subsequent therapies is fast, this entire process is slow and requires patience. No matter where we would have taken our boy it would have been an insurance approval nightmare, and financial burden, but the admin staff at FUNctionabilities has worked with our family and our situation through every step. They are our advocates with approvals, escalations, and all the headaches that have come with paperwork required by insurance. There's nothing anyone can do about what we do and do not have covered from our insurance, but FUNctionabilities knows the federal and state laws, and regulations to help you navigate being your child's advocate for services. Please give them a chance to help your children, because as I stated before they have completely changed our lives and we are a whole new family no longer struggling to help our little guy. They always run on time, and respect the fact that your child deserves their entire therapy session to be devoted towards their individual needs. They helped us to have a regular set schedule, and I love every therapist who has worked with us, whether that's speech, or OT. The owners personally know every child and visit with the parents constantly to check in and make sure all is well. I want to give my son the best chance he can get in this life, and starting therapy off with FUNctionabilities was the best thing for us, and I will forever be grateful for all they have done for us. Give them a chance to show you what they can do for your family too. Picture of my cutie pie to catch your attention ;)
