Must visit if you're in the area. It's not like the chains, this is the original location. They keep the menu simple, but have mastered the art of burritos. Make sure to get the crispy onions at the end.

Not cheap and not authentic mexican food (it is called freebirds) but great in its own way with fresh ingredients, huge servings, fast service, and great taste that make it a local favorite.

The best burritos in SB, but they can't wrap them to save their life. Its simple really. They just seem to think its okay for the burrito to be squeezing out the sides when they wrap it instead of folding them in like the rest of humanity. Because who doesn't enjoy having their entire meal falling apart in front of their eyes before they've even had a chance to enjoy it?

Maybe it's because I'm from San Diego but honestly I wasn't impressed. Meat was good but there wasn't anything else special about their burritos. You wouldn't have a late-night craving of it like you would Chipotle.

I come to Santa Barbara once a week for work and I always go here at least once. Best burritos in town, even now that I stopped eating meat and just get the vegetarian version.
Tip: If you like melted cheese, order a Quesarrito instead of a burrito. You won't regret it!

Standard Mexican food. I think it's pricey. Lots of ucsb students go there. You will usually see them sharing nachos. When my wife and I go there I get their big chicken burrito, she gets a bowl with steak and guacamole($2 extra), two drinks cost about $28. Their parking lot will hold about 7-8 cars.

A popular place with UCSB students, who mostly seem to get giant plates of nachos, Freebirds offers excellent, large, custom-made burritos and quesadillas, fast service, a decent amount of seating (mostly outdoor), and a reasonable price.

There is a tiny parking lot, and some street parking, but look out for college students on bikes and skateboards, darting in and out like video game characters. And be especially careful at the one intersection where cross-traffic, large and small, in both directions, has no stop sign or traffic light.

But, even with those minor caveats, GO to Freebirds - you will enjoy it :-)

Freebirds is a must place to visit every time I go to Santa Barbara. Starting from my college days, the QuesoNachorito is still one of my favorite things to eat there. Even though it's no longer open 24 hours, they still stay open for quite late. Thankfully they have another location in LA by USC that I can visit without having to drive 100 miles. This is a business that will continue to thrive.

Love it!! Great food and Awesome service!! They are also doing great job meeting anti Covid regulations... Accidentally I came into the store without a mask because I was in a rush, and a well mannered waiter approached to me and ask me to please come back with a mask and pointed to all signs around the store, requesting using mask to enter! I was embarrassed and super happy at the same time knowing that this business is talk g care of it. My apologies to Freebirds and to all it's community for making that mistake! Thank you Freebirds!! You guys da best!!

Believe the hype, Freebirds is epic! Now, if you ve only been to those silly chain versions of this, you re missing out. Come here to the original and best. Honestly, I tried a chain one thinking, Oh, this will be awesome, I love Freeirds, but don t want to always have to drive to Santa Barbara. How wrong I was.

Get yourself a burrito. I like the steak, but it s all good. The rice is good, the fixings are amazing. And seriously, do not skip the horchata. You want it. Yes, you really do.

Now I m hungry. And want a burrito. And it s a long drive.

But you know what? Freebirds is worth it.

Oh Freebirds. The original. You are simply AMAZING. Totally college & beachy Mexican restaurant. Super delicious. They pile the food up. I split a quesadilla and nachos with 3 other friends and it was more than enough.

Chipotle style in that you choose what you want for either Burrito, Nachos, Tacos, etc. I have to say, their Carne Asada is better than Chipotle though. BY FAR. So tender, juicy, and GOOD.

They also have a salsa bar. UNLIMITED SALSAS <3

Anytime I'm around SB I HAVE to stop by here.

Overpriced, but an obscene amount of tasty food if you like burritos.
The steak burrito is excellent.
Nachos are also tasty, and you get a boatload.

Line-ups are often pretty long, but it's worth the ~10 min wait.
