Litterally do not understand why people rave about the place. The pizza is good dont get me wrong but waiting outside for 30 minutes to even get in the building for terrible service just isnt worth it.

There are 2 Frank Pepe restaurants next to each other, the smaller one is the original which is right next to the one they opened later. Both had lines but the older one had a shorter one so we decided to go there. We had their famous clam Pizza. It was pretty dry and not really popping with flavours. The same Pizza that we had a year ago in their newer place was juicy and delicious. Wasn't too happy. The servers went through the motions expected but didn't smile or look welcoming. The chairs were very uncomfortable and I thought maybe they don't want you to sit for too long. A disappointing experience for one of the top rated pizza places in US.

Delicious, delicious, delicious. Great brick oven pizzas that can compete with the best of them. Hearty, filling and worth the wait. Street parking is easy, and the staff are all prompt and friendly.

We came here on a Friday night and there was a short wait. We ordered the white clam pie. Coming from NYC, this neopolitan crust is deff some of the best I ever had. It was thin, crunchy, and chewy at the second time. The clam flavor was dominant and there was a decent amount of garlic. My only gripe is that the clams were dispersed unevenly. Some slices had plenty while others barely had any. Also another mention is that the white clam pie is not very heavy. My wife and I finished a large piece to our selves. Next time we will try it with bacon as suggest by the waitress, and also a tomato pie with mozzarella.

I ve visited a few times and don t understand the popularity of Frank Pepe s. The staff is great, but I don t find the pizza extraordinary. Certainly not for the extremely long wait-times. We ve had to wait 30-60 minutes per visit just to be seated, out in cold weather. I d definitely go once, but not sure it s worth a second trip. We went a second time just to see if we missed something because it is such a popular pizza joint.

No one does it better. No one. If you like Italian pizza - this is the best of the best. The negative reviews are from people who are either not Italian lol or don t know what good pizza is.

I can understand if it's something like a Chicago Deep Dish pizza that takes 45 mins to bake, but this is thin crust coal oven, takes 5 mins to bake. They need a more efficient system. Shouldn't take 1hr+ from seated at the table to leaving the place, not including waiting outside. But if you don't mind the wait, the white clam pizza is very good.

I am NOT a fan of clam pizza, but theirs was good enough that I had a second slice. Fantastic dough with perfect texture and flavor. Grab a bottle of birch beer to go with it. Make sure to allow for a bit of a wait to be seated at this historic establishment, but know that it's worth the wait.

My first time visiting. Truly great pizza and pretty good all around. The crust isn't too cardboardy nor is it fluffy like cake. It has burnt areas which give it a good bitter sourness with every few bites. The clam pizza was a must try and even though I'm not a fan of clams, it was good, fishy but with some added parm and sweet hot sauce like a habanero then it touches all my flavor marks. The next was maghrita which is sweet tomatoes and dashes of mozzarella and basil it was my favorite and Ohh how I would love to have that every week. It is traditional and a simple menu providing simply greatness. Would recommend the maghrita as a beginner try.

Yumm, Pepe's is good! Hadn't been in awhile and the salad and pizza were even better than I recalled. Nothing fancy here - classic flavors prepared really well. Service is fast, but the line gets long so prepare to wait (or get there well off-peak).

The reputation is warranted. One of the best pizza places in the CT, which is to say in New England and the country. Thin, crispy with a slight chew and simple. Delicious sauce and crust. Nothing soggy or oily. This is coal-fire brick oven pizza. Unlike its delicious thin crust cousin from NYC, there is no need to fold and the cheese wont slide off. Even their four cheese, the Quattro Fromaggi, holds it's structure. Their famous clam pizza is made with fresh shucked clam of the day. Once they run out, that's it until tomorrow.

It's a simple setting. It's authentic (been in the family, run essentially the same way since 1925). ...but it's popular, both locally and long distance. They don't take reservations. Waits can get up to an hour, and I've seen people do it in the snow. We we're lucky; at 830 on a Friday in May, we had only a 20 min wait.

Also try Modern Apizza or Sally's (both in New Haven), Crust or Mondo in Middletown, Luna is West Hartford and Michaelangelo's is Rocky Hill.

Nearly every person I asked in my hotel recommended Pepe's pizza for lunch. My coworkers and I stopped by to get two pies, one pepperoni and one with garlic and broccoli. It was an above-average pizza, but unfortunately it didn't quite live up to the hype. I think I've been spoiled by deep dish Chicago pizza, or maybe I just prefer that type over the thin crust pizza here. If you like pizza, you'll definitely enjoy what you get here.

Pros: Flavorful crust, thin and chewy. Lots of char. Well salted. Limited topping selection keeps the focus on the pizza. Friendly service. Open kitchen makes it fun to watch them cook.

Cons: Pizza can easily get too greasy or salty with some toppings. Seating was dated and uncomfortable. Very crowded. Limited parking. Pizza was quite good but comparable to other artisinal pizza restaurants.

This is the place that invented pizza as we know it. The franchising of the original has been expertly handled and the massive fire heated ovens are as good as the original. If you like pizza you'll love the original at pepes

Authentic. One of the best pizzas in the country. I would say anyone visiting the area must go. The crust is nice and crispy and all toppings are nice and fresh. Give yourself couple of hours, anticipating a huge line.

I'm giving this place four stars and it's not for what you think. The pizza is really good but there are better pies I've had locally. I'm giving it four stars do to the atmosphere and the attitude of the staff there. Even though they are the big dog on the Block and have more customers than they can deal with, they still treat their customers well and make sure they are catered to. The owner even comes up to talk to you and Shake Your Hand. That is huge in my book and is something all other owners should take heed to. They've even finally gotten up the 21st century and gotten rid of the paper plates and now accept credit cards which they didn't for years. I would go back even with the line. And that's saying something cuz I don't wait in line for anyting.

Quick service once you get through the line and sit down. Friendly waitress. Delicious thin crust. We had the summer pie, fresh tomatoes, cheese & basil. Delicious. Crust was cooked right, not burnt, but crisp and chewy.

An institution! Excellent pizza, served quickly. They were out of clams when I went most recently but highly recommend the clam pie. Really looking forward to going back. Parking is limited, service is excellent. Be prepared for a line out the door during the weekends.
