A lot of locals like to hate on Pepe's pizza. Not me. It lives up to the hype. But only the home base and The Spot next door. Doesn't seem like the franchises have the same "it factor." Regardless, prepare for a wait outside if you're planning to sit down. The Spot doesn't have as long as a line but honestly, the seating in there is really uncomfortable. But the real reason you're going is the pizza. My go to isn't the famed clam pizza, but rather the Fresh Tomato pie they offer from July through September. Do yourself a favor and get that pizza if you have the opportunity. Otherwise, the margarita pizza, plain cheese or pepperoni are others I'd recommend. All in all, if you know what perfect pizza tastes like, then you know Pepe's not only serves it, but created it. This crust, slightly charred and not a disgusting above ground pool like they pretend pizza is in Chicago. This. Is. Apizza.
The pizza was SUPER COLD. They took FOREVER to take my payment. Avoided me at all costs FOR THE 4TH TIME. They ONLY focus on tending to WHITE customers. If you are not WHITE forget about ordering here!
Not a fan and I'm a pizza expert. It's geared more toward non pizza experts.
I love DeLorenzo's Tomato Pies in Trenton, NJ and I always compare pizzas from everywhere I go to DeLorenzo's pies. Most places don't stack up, despite their grand assertions as being the best. Frank Pepe and his descendants who still run the shop come very close to Chick's and Gary's Trenton landmark, but the light crispness of the Trenton crust still wins out over the New Haven product, ever so slightly. New Haven style is thin and light, but sometimes a little too "burnt" for my liking, making it to brittle with sharp edges that don't conform to my mouth movements as well as the more supple crispness of the DeLorenzo pie. The flavors are excellent, and the personalities at Frank Pepe, especially the granddaughter, Jennifer, are all part of the truly enjoyable eating and dining out experience there. It gets very crowded at prime meal times, so offset your time to a bit later, say 8:30 pm, and you'll be golden.
Best pizza in Connecticut! No joke, staff is nice and professional.
Great pizza with a distinctive taste! Well worth the wait if you have to. I come here whenever I visit the north east!
Best Pizza in America I kid you not. Their Clam pie is a must have if you even remotely like seafood. I have done take out 3 times and don't be surprised if there is an hour wait, but well worth it. Dine in has a great old time pizza shop feel and a decent beer selection with a few local beers on tap. Pay attention to pizza size as a medium can certainly satisfy 3 people. parking is mainly street parking. Honestly I can't recommend Pepe's enough, even if you are just passing by, it's right off 95!
Had a plain cheese pie, it was delicious. Very good apizza
Nice pizza, for the ingredients.
But... The bottom of all our 3 pizzas were burned and full of charcoal pieces.. Highly carcinogenic.. And two of us went sick that night..
Picked up my free birthday pizza. Thank you Pepe. The pizza was absolutely delicious. Hot, fresh and cheesy. The crust had a nice crisp. I hate that I don't live in CT anymore and have to travel from Florence SC just to get some REAL PIZZA
If you're in the New Haven Connecticut area and you love pizza you have to go to this place it is the best
Great pizza, authentic atmosphere, attentive and friendly service
I was sceptical of the whole "famous New Haven pizza" lore...until last night. some of the best pizza I've ever had. if you're a fan of deep dish or fluffy soft crust, it might take some adjusting, but I genuinely enjoyed the crispy chewy sourdough-like flavor of their iconic crust. and the spot is practically a historical landmark, so if you're visiting, I'd highly recommend making this one of your stops
