Adopted my Annabel from here last week. They made it a very easy process and were informative about her having a URI and gave me her medication. We love her and so happy FVHA is there providing shelter for the animals. Thank you again!

Tough to rate stars here... I'd like to delete my review but I don't see an option for it. Loved my cat-- I give him 5+++ stars... but we only had him for a month due to an illness, which has been heartbreaking. Compromising with 3 stars. I understand shelters have a lot of cats and it's probably difficult to observe each cat's behavior. I do feel our boy was overlooked. It's an impossible thing to express how I am feeling. I am so sad that we only had a month with him, yet I am so grateful for the opportunity we had to love him while he was with us. Our vet said he was sick before he even came to live with us. His entire chest was filled with fluid from a 100% fatal didease called fip. Research it. My advice is to only adopt from shelters that house cats individually! These "cat rooms" expose the cats to so much and are stressful for the cats.

When we adopted our dog, I initialed a statement saying, "I understand to the best of FVHA's abilities, this is a healthy and well-adjusted pet..." A few days later, the vet revealed our dog had scabies, fleas, and an ear infection. Later that evening, our dog began showing aggressive behaviors toward my husband, child, and neighborhood children. Obviously this dog is neither healthy nor well-adjusted. Of course the FVHA is not responsible because "...this pet adoption is an as-is basis."

Looked at 2 puppies and they both had poop on them. They need to keep a closer eye on the dogs. They did have an 1 1/2year old that was very nice. Have to think about the cost. 375 for r his one and the puppies were 450. I'm not sure but that might be a little to high of a price to pay for a dog.

Lots of awesome dogs and cats to choose from. Staff is friendly and helpful and they have an adoption fair coming up soon. The facility is very clean and animals appear to be healthy, I thought their prices for adoption we're very expensive for the average family in this area. However we did find a very nice dog,but sadly our application was denied due to our other animals not being spayed. We have a female cat that is almost five spayed and very healthy and happy. We have a kitten who is not spayed because she is too young. I see no point in spaying our dog she will never be allowed to breed, she is a very well behaved healthy and happy Doberman Pincher who is never outside unattended. But I understand their rules. My kitten will definitely be getting spayed the end of next month. But we decided to look elsewhere for a dog because spaying our dog at her age seems totally unnecessary.

A friend's application was first "never received", then "lost", then they denied it without giving her a reason. She was an excellent candidate. The pet has been there over 6 months. It was an excellent match. He would have been cared for, vetted, and loved for life. They never checked any references.

Our experience with "Chapin" was extremely pleasant & she was VERY knowledgeable with regards to each available animal up for adoption & we did NOT feel "Rushed to make our adoption decision!" Would recommend Chapin & "FVHA" to others for their adoption services & needs!

I have worked there for the past 5 years. People always assume the worst about this place. Get your facts straight, don't go off of hear-say. Everyone that works there is 100% dedicated to rescuing animals in need - and do it for little money. FVHA has a great mission and is dedicated to helping animals AND people in this area.

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!!

My wife called in last week as she noticed a dog that they had available for adoption. She told them upon the phone that we had just recently adopted another dog about 8 weeks ago and was wondering if we liked what we saw if our dog could meet the one at the facility. They said that it would not be a problem, but the dog at the facility would have to get over her kennel cough before (which we agree with) but if she was a match for us they would put the adoption as pending. We proceed to visit the dog at their facility that day, and both fell in love with her. After stating this, they would hold the dog for us and find our application which was probably in a shuffle of other applications upon a desk in back (quite unorganized). Instead of this, my wife decided to fill out a new application which again was shuffled around and not processed. A week later, we receive a phone call saying that they will not adopt to us due to us saving a dog in the last few months. We told them this before we even drove to the facility!! Why did they take our time and there time to waste with this?

THIS PLACE IS A JOKE!! VISIT A SHELTER THAT ACTUALLY CARES ABOUT FINDING A PROPER HOME, AS THIS ONE DOES NOT!!

We adopted our sweet baby dog from FVHS. She came to us healthy and clean, the staff was amazing and had tons of information and advice about our new baby. Would recommend 1000 times over to anyone looking to rescue and provide a forever home..

Very clean building and very friendly staff. Sooooo many animals that I wish more people would adopt. Please please please remember to donate to them ( Or any shelter that is! ) to help out the animals there as well!

I applied to become a volunteer and after 3 weeks of no word I called. I had to leave a voicemail and after a few days I received an email which said I was not approved because I didn't have a clean background check. I haven't been in any trouble in over 5 years and the trouble I was in, had nothing to do with violence of any sort. I have held a good job for 7 years and gave them great references. They must not need much help these days. I just wanted to help some animals for FREE!

My family adopted 2 very good dogs from here. Our first was in 2013 and our second in 2018. The first we adopted we were never told about his allergies the cause his eyes to become very red, irritated and have discharge that requires daily eye medication . Our second dog we got who we were told was in good health proved to be a lie, we took him in for a check up with our vet 2 days after we got him and found out he was very under weight, had a double ear infection and had hook worms. Don't get me wrong I do not regret adopting these dogs because they are very loving and friendly. I just wish the shelter would have been honest about there health. I also had a bad experience with one of the employees, I can't remember her name but she was older and extremely rude.

We found an excellent cat here! The facility is nice and the staff was very helpful and kind to the animals. We had all of our questions answered and they handled dozens of people at the same time, which was impressive! Great experience!

Please note I don't normally review businesses and this is an actual experience that aligns with other people who have been left with broken hearts.

We recently lost our rescue puppy at 9 years to bone cancer and looked to potentially adopt another dog. We went in on 3/24 to look at dogs and fell in love with a 1 year old sweetie. First people to see him since he was dropped off as he was neutered and just recovered enough to see people. We filled out our application and were informed that we were the first to do so BUT that its not first come first server basis. We left with much anticipation of finally rebuilding our family and were anxious to get a call after our application was reviewed ( Own home with 2 acres and clearly love dogs).

After calling on an updated following Monday afternoon we were told that they did no see our application but should get to it that day or Tuesday morning. We waited till Tuesday afternoon and called again. Explained that we are 2 hours away and asked if our application could be expedited - response No. Called Thursday at noon and they still had not reviewed our application! Asked if the dog is even still available and were told he is being picked up TODAY! Broken hearts and tears on our end.

**********WORD OF ADVICE, if you are too busy dealing with your dogs, review application so they can be adopted!************

FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO ADOPT
Fill out an application in advance, when they finally approve it and get back to you, THEN look at their dogs as you might actually get the one you fall in love with. BE AWARE!!! YOU ARE ADAPTING SOMEONES DOG WHO IS STILL WAITING ON THEIR APPLICATION. YOU ARE BREAKING HEARTS WHEN DEALING WITH THIS HORRIBLY RUN/STAFFED PLACE. It's not the dogs fault and they are still getting a good home, just not yours :(.

FOR STAFF, If you are nice people (You appear to be) change your process as its literally tearing apart hearts! You charge enough money and have enough sponsors to have more paid staff. You will turn out more animals to good homes which will also bring in more funds to help even more. We wont be dealing with you in the future, you can shred my application if you ever get to it.

We went and picked out a dog on a Saturday and put in an application for her. We were so excited to add her to our family! We were told she was on hold for us and we had until Tuesday (today) at closing time to get her. Well, got a call and they gave her to ANOTHER family! How disheartening! Their process for adoption makes no sense and apparently their staff doesn't know how the process works to have given us different information than the girl I spoke with today. For instance, they put our application into a "pool" of applicants after telling us she was on hold for us. Then they choose the right family from the "pool" according to the interactions with the dog, however, they just brought the dog in and out and never saw us interact with her. We took her for a walk outside, etc. Very disheartening! I would not recommend adopting from them until they get their policies straight and employees trained.

I am happy I got my dog, that is the extent of what went well. Go to Oshkosh, way more friendly and half the price. They lied about him being up to date on flea and tick AND shots, we were sadly not offered to get the family photo that is apparently standard. The "bag of goodies" was a nice jesture, if I had a dog doubled in size. So yes it was a real disappointment to work with them.

If I could give it a zero, I would. I have a walker tree hound who loves to run. We live on 2 acres of land. Despite our efforts in keeping him contained, he has ran away a few times. Unfortunately, he has visited the humane society a few times as we live a few miles away. The manager Kelly insulted me numerous times indicating I was a bad dog owner because my dog ran a few times. Even though I was in contact with the humane society before someone brought him in, they immediately called me when he got there and stated I needed to pay 105$. Because I need to wait until I got paid to get my dog & waited until my kids were out of school, Kelly continued to say I didn't take care of my dog and I was irresponsible. Because I came in at 430 on a Friday (hrs are listed to reclaim until 5), she said I had to wait until Monday. It is very sad this is run with this poor ethics. She has no idea what is going on in my life. Her judgement should have no concern as the dog is very well taken care of. The reclaim staff should try to get the dog back in the owners hands instead of putting him in a small kennel. A small kennel is the last thing a walker tree hound needs to be well taken care of. My boys walked out with tears. Thanks Kelly.

On 5/26 someone brought my dog in as a stray. Which he was not. On 6/3 they killed my dog without checking APD to see if he was registered (which he was). I have been calling for three weeks but the manger Vicky would never answer and her secretary had an attitude every time I called. Today I finally was about to talk to Vicky and with a nasty attitude, she told me they killed my dog within a week of him being them. They never tried to find the owner, never called to notify me. They didn t post my dog on any of their pages to notify anybody that he was a stray. Smh

I had to surrender some of my pets. I contacted the shelter and they said that they would be able to take in my rats. I brought cages, completed paperwork, and never saw them again. They were never posted on the website, Facebook, or even Petfinder. I checked religiously for weeks, and they never appeared anywhere (meaning that they weren't even transferred to another shelter). I can only assume that they put them all down, even though they had fantastic personalities and were non-violent or bitey.

One of my coworkers got a dog from here and they had to return it a few hours later, the dog had kennel cough.

Very friendly staff, very informative and really want what's best for their animals. Would've given 5 but they are understaffed up front for how much traffic they have. Great place though and i got my dog from there.

WORST SHELTER POSSIBLE! My girlfriend and I found the most adorable puppy at the shelter. We immediately filled out paperwork to make him a part of our lives. A week went by and we hadn't heard anything so we called, we were told they were waiting to hear back from our references. That night we called both the references to get the show on the road. Another week went by so we called again.... more excuses. Finally when we called again on week 3, we were told that there was many people that applied to adopt the puppy we wanted and they hadn't decided who was going to get the puppy yet. Try explaining to a 6 year old that the puppy he fell in love with, he cant have! Thank you for nothing I will never step foot in your building again!

Still working on hopefully adopting a dog from the shelter. Staff was fairly nice and knowledgeable on the ones we did look at and meet. However if you don't have any current animals up to date on vaccinations or meet any of the other application requirements don't bother filling out an application as the adoption process is basically set on a first come first served basis for any applicant that immediately meets all the paperwork requirements. For us, we have two cats whose tabbies vaccinations recently expired and regardless of the fact that we have appointments for them to be updated in 2 days if anyone else applies and passes for the same animal between now and then they will be approved for the adoption of the animal.

I recently donated feline supplies and never received as much as a thank you from the front desk attendant. I also donate several times thruout the year, not real friendly or personal. Makes me wonder how they treat the animals.

We went to their Christmas day event and everyone there was so helpful and in such a good mood. The animals definitely got spoiled. The turnout was amazing, it really lifted your heart to see so many people show up to brighten the day of those animals! My girlfriend and I are planning to make it a yearly event

Very Disorganized & Terrible Service! Stood around for almost an hour only to be told that the dog wouldn't be a good fit because of our 2yr old son, but yet the dog we choose information sheet said NOTHING about not good with children...

We planned to come out to Neenah from Manitowoc to go specifically to this establishment after looking online and reviewing what this shelter had to offer. The puppies that we looked at in the shelter were not in the photo's that we saw online, and I was told that they were just brought in. After our initial visit with Aspen, My family and I fell in love with her immediately. I went out to get an application and asked if there were any other applicants. Otherwise I would not have even put in the effort. I was told there was not. I felt very excited when they said that they would get back to us the same day or by Monday at the latest. I called my references and told them to be ready for a call and that I was trying to adopt my granddaughter. When I tell them what happenned I know they will feel as heartbroken as I was.

I decided to call them back just a few hours later to find out if there was any progress made on my application. It was then I was told that they were SO busy that they had to make an "immediate decision" for an adoption and that the puppy we wanted was getting ready to leave with her new family. I was so upset that I cried. I told them that I was the first applicant and didn't understand why mine was overlooked to which they responded "it does not go on a first come first serve basis." This seemed very suspicious to me. I did not believe a word the staff person was saying to me. The least they could have done was call to inform me that we were not the chosen candidates for the puppy. Instead, they proceeded to feed me lies and excuses at an attempt to cover their butts for unjustifiably overlooking my application . I did not appreciate the run around, and was eventually offered to speak to a supervisor. I accepted and waited on hold for minutes just to be told that the supervisor was too "busy" to speak with me but not busy enough to make an immediate decision on a adoption.

For being the Humane Association, they are not very Humane with regards to the human heart. I don't understand why they had to make a rush decision on someone else's application but they so easily overlooked mine. I decided to drop my application all together. I am very disappointed with this establishment and I intend to tell everyone I know not to go to the Fox Valley Humane Association. I hope that they will do the same. I don't want anyone to ever have to experience what I went through. I lost my pet of 18 years and was finally ready to love another only to have my heart broken over careless and poor operating procedures. Someone needs to pay attention and do something about this. Very unprofessional and rude. I believe strongly in that old saying, what goes around, comes around. You can't treat people like this and it not come back to you, I will leave it at that. For your own sakes I would never set foot in this establishment. Take heed of all the other disatisfied adopters who, when you read it, all went through a similar situation. Hopefully this establishment will be closed down for their heartless acts. You have to realize that you deal with Humanity also. It also has the word Humane. I am sure that I will find a loving pet and that is what I have to look forward to.

I came in to see if any of the dogs would be a good fit for my family as we have been looking for one. We were told we couldn't see one because he was just neutered. Understandable! We had to come back the next day, which we did. I needed to make sure that my 3 year old wouldn't be too much for this very sweet 5 year old dog. They got along great when we finally were able to meet him.

The lady that helped us was not very nice, but I told her I would love to adopt this sweet dog even though she couldn't tell me much about him. She told me they would hold him up to 4 days while the application was processed. I got a call the next day indicating that he was being offered to another couple! WTH happened? But they promised that they had many other dogs to offer. Sorry...but not EVERY dog is right for EVERY family. Don't promise to hold a dog when you won't. Be kind to both humans and animals...just some friendly advice.

VICKI. The head person. Took my dog Mattie away from me cuz I couldn't and, wouldn't if I could, pay her 576.oo to return my dog after about 5 weeks of her being there. My dog ran away from the home she was being cared for while I've been in the streets, homeless, looking for a place for Mattie and me.
I've called and called and tried to work something out but she refused even tho I have a home for us and some if not most of the money she asked.
I've had Mattie for five years and now I've lost her... My best friend... Forever. I hate you VICKI!

I d like to start by saying that my kitten is a lovely little girl and she is happy and (soon to be) healthy. I adopted her from the Fox Valley Humane Association after the passing of my previous cat. On the day that I was viewing her I noticed she was sneezing and the girl there informed me she had previously had a upper respiratory infection. Claiming it was no longer we assumed she was just getting over it and signed the paper claiming we will take her as is, with no medical conditions. I also want to add that the the girl said to this to us we would say she has an upper respiratory infection and give you her medicine schedule, but she doesn t have one so. I take her home and her sneezing continues to worsen. I call a week later asking for help because she was already sneezing the day of her adoption from them. I receive a call back saying that there is nothing they can do and I need to take her to my own vet. My main issue is not the cost of taking my brand new kitten to the vet already, or anything like that. But the fact that they knew she had a history of illness, brushed me off when I brought up the concern on her adoption day, and then proceeded to too bad so sad me when I asked for help. Frankly, if you choose to adopt from them, do not expect your kitten to be as happy and healthy as they say, and don't expect them to care once its adopted.

I have applied to adopt 4 different cats receiving none of them. The first 3 (kittens) about 7 years ago mysteriously became unavailable with no reason given. Most recently, I applied for a cat (9 months old) that was being viewed at a local pet supply store....visited the cat a couple of times, once even with our dog, they both got along very well. We were heart broken when someone came in the next day and was able to adopt the cat that same day?!? I'm done FVHS! And I will pass this on to friends.

I know this place is doing good trying to get animals adopted but when you open the door the whiff of pee is overwhelming. The entire operation seems mismanaged. We asked to go into a room and pet the cats and it seemed like it was okay but nobody was around to help. Great job getting pets their forever homes and I am sure it is understaffed considering the volunteer quota, but focusing on keeping things clean woukd help quite a bit.

So word to the wise for anyone trying to adopt an animal through the Fox Valley humane society: understand that when they tell you that they can put a 24 hour hold on a pet to make sure that you know you can get it, the hold literally means nothing. Someone can still go the next day and adopt the animal you had a hold on.

If I could give a a zero I would! I've called multiple times and left multiple messages after speaking with the shelters sherif Vicki in regards to a dog I wanted her to go check on who was chained up outside in this brutal weather. She assured me she would stop by & check out the scene. I asked her so kindly to call me back after she had done this and let me know if there was anything she could do for this poor dog. Days went by and no call & the dog was still outside. Message after message she still has not called me back. She should NOT have this caring of animals as her career!! Such a joke!! This place is terrible.

Adopted a terrier mix that seemed to be shedding excessively from the moment I picked him up from the shelter. When I brought him to my vet a week later they found demodex Mange and now I will need to bring him back for dip treatments over the next few months. I paid a $350 adoption fee to Fox Valley that said it included the dog being vet checked and reported healthy. This dog was not "healthy" and now I'm having to pay another couple hundred for treatment after that ridiculous adoption price.

The Humane Society of the United States, recently supported keeping wolves on the endangered species list, in the Great Lakes District, despite the overpopulation in Mn., Wi. & MI.

They are wrong and do not support Farmers, Hunters or the DNR and do not want to have our local DNR regulate the population but want a judge from Washington DC determine the correct population size.

Very excellent service! Went in on Friday to browse, and we fell in love with a dog and immediately filled out an application. We were told we probably wouldn't hear back until Monday, but we got a call Saturday morning saying we were approved and could pick her up! Very good service, and very friendly staff. Very willing to answer questions about food, carriers, etc. You could tell they genuinely cared about our dog. Would definitely return to use their services in the future!

I ve been inside other animal shelters. But this one takes the Oscar. It honestly looks like a cute seaside town when you walk into the main hall where the fur babies are kept. They definitely have a good life while staying. Plus the employees are nice as can be and really care.

They have a very large selection of cats and a medium selection of dogs. The staff is polite but slow to act, maybe because they are under-staffed.

We adopted a cat recently and the adoption process was quick, cheap and painless. They just didn't follow through with doing scheduled check-ups by not calling to see how the cat adapted to our home or if there were other issues, both positive or negative.

This is an honest 4 stars.

Horrible. I had to put my pitbull in the shelter on hold for a couple of days because of a dispute at my house. I checked on him and they had told me he was great. I call to go and see if I can come get him and they tell me he's euthanized?! My dog was attacked by a dog when he was young and does not get well with other dogs. I told them NOT to let him by other dogs, yet they do anyways and say that's the reason he was put down?! They promised me they would CALL ME FIRST. but instead they did on Saturday and I had to call and find out Monday. Just because he has to be an only dog does not mean that he doesn't have a chance to live. His 1 year birthday is this Saturday.... And he was killed because they didn't listen to me and lied to me.. Rip Stitch

Well they will not help you if you need it. I am disabled and have kittens I need to surrender. I called Saturday to find out if they will do a pick up. I was told yes for a $45 fee. I had to leave a message with Vicki who is the executive director and she would call me when she came to work on Monday. I waited until Tuesday and called again still no response. I waited until Thursday and called again then I was told that Vicki has multiple jobs and can't seem to keep up. So I than asked if there was another options Because I was getting no response. I was told that I would have to ask Vicki so I was put through to her voice mail again only this time I left a not so pleasent message because being nice got me no where. Guess what I got a call back in 20min amazing how she became unbusy. Then she tells me I was given wrong information that they only pick up in certain situations. I would have to pay 45$ for transport and 30$ per cat I have 7 I tried to help 2 stray females and they had babies. I told her I am disabled and unable to drive and asked if there was anywhere I could find some help she said no. Because I left a mean message and said I was going to put the cats in the park. So I would get a response and it worked. So I would have to pay 221$ plus 45$ for transport and I than find out they have a 50$ group fee I guess I wasn't offered that because she was mad. How dare I call and make her call me back and then only get a call so she can record me and again lie to me about how they work. THEY WILL NOT HELP ANY ANIMAL
