We had a great experience at the Fox Valley Humane Association this weekend. We went in on Friday afternoon to look for a puppy. We found one we absolutely loved and filled out an application to adopt her before we left. Around 9:30 Saturday morning I received a call letting us know that pending the meeting to introduce our current dog to the puppy, we were approved to adopt her. We went in as soon as they opened to have the meeting and it went great and we were able to bring our new puppy home with us that day.

The building was very nicely laid out and very clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the adoption process was very quick and easy! I would definitely recommend adopting through this shelter.

I was told the human society would evaluate a vicious dog and decide if he could be adopted or put down. In the office I was told he needed to be put down. I was then forced to give the dog back to the shelter where he came from where he would probably be put back up for adoption.

This company never answers their phone and they don't respond to inquiries from pet finder either. That's a shame. Not everyone lives in the area and can just stop by. Loss of business for sure.

We have been searching for a dog for months now, we were waiting for the right one for our family, I had filled out an application and it's been in their files patently waiting.
When a dog comes in with a description of what we are searching for, one of the staff members, Courtney- who has worked at the shelter for years, will go out of her way to contact me and let me know there's a dog at the shelter who may be a good fit for my home. Courtney does not hesitate to let me come see the pups one on one with her.
This shelter is a very clean, respectful shelter. All of the workers put their whole heart and soul into the pets and make sure they find the right homes for every indivudal pet. I've never seen such dedication at any shelter I've been to.
Courtney really has gone above and beyond to help these pets find their forever homes, she will take time out of her day to help the adoption process go as smooth and successful as possible! I'm proud to adopt a pet from this humane society, I'm proud to support them, and I'm proud to help any chance I can. The amazing staff is what makes this place as great as it is.... and of course, with help from the cutest animals! Thank you for all your help Courtney, as she has found us the perfect dog for our family! I know I'm not the only one who's had such help and devotion from Courtney. She loves her job and what she does everyday and it really shows through her work! I'm sure the job is never easy but you sure make it look that way! Keep up the good work everyone!

Stopped in just to see some dogs. Ended up finding a cat and applying, but cat was adopted. Staff was some friendliest, cheerful, and helpful I've seen in a long time anywhere. Facility is very amazing, very clean and modern.

We adopted our puppy from Fox Valley Humane Association a few days ago. The attendants couldn't have been nicer and the building was neat and clean. Our experience there could not have been better and we got an awesome dog.

Thank you so much for Molly! For the past year now, she's been the little clown this house needed. Your facility was clean, and I was delighted by your practice of allowing her time with my other dog before the adoption. You make adoption easy and stress-free! Thanks!

Nice 'Wisconsin statue' protected dog-napping racket you got there... Had a dog get loose, and even though we called them, and sent an email with a very recent picture, they claimed for over a week not to have her. We suddenly get a call that they do in fact have her; and for 200$ we can have her back. 0 stars. Rot in hell.

Went here to adopt a kitten, Freddy. Emailed application, had called and was told to come on in. Drove from Green Bay to Appleton, just to hear they "don't have the application." Filled out another one on the spot. Then was told ALL family members must be there. They were to call my references and prior Vet for our other kitty ( to make sure she was up to date on shots) while I drove all the way back to GB to pick up the other family member (a 31yr old adult.)

Got back there, they didn't acknowledge that I brought the other family member back. What was the point again?

Next they brought the wrong kitten in, 20 minutes later they bring the right one in. Again, I said "yeah we will take Freddy!" Turns out they never bothered to start processing the application, never called the references, landlord, or the other vet.

Thanks for giving my 9yr old daughter hope that we would get the kitten only to smash her heart. Terrible service! They have no idea what is going on there and are very unorganized. It's amazing they are able to adopt out any animals with the level of care they give the adopters. They even had the gull to say " What doesn't the Brown County Humane Society have any animals for you?"

Very disappointed. I feel bad for all the animals there and other potential adopters. I'm sure there are a lot of GREAT homes for these animals that never happen due to the lack of professionalism at this facility.

It really is sad. This weekend was their "Super Adoption Event." What a joke.

Sorry Freddy, I hope you make it to a great home and live a happy kitty life. I tried. :(

Very very kind people. We were there for a few hours today. We have our heart set on a cat but he is on hold for now by someone else. I'm really hoping we get to bring him home but I know if we dont they will help us find the right pet for us.

I would like to start this review by stating that ...

I would like to start this review by stating that I have read all of the other reviews and I am surprised by the stupidity contained therein.

Plenty of people complain about putting in an application for an animal and someone else getting it, which is highly unintelligent because they review all applicants and choose which would be best for the animal. Sure, you wanted that animal, and thought you would be the perfect home, but on paper there was someone better than you, and the shelter isn't going to cheat the animal by giving them to you just to spare your feelings. This is about the ANIMALS not the humans, so if you think you can march in, pick an animal, and get it no matter what then you are an absolute idiot.

Also the people complaining about their applications getting lost: you also claim it was during a super adoption event. Newsflash for you who get pissy about lost applications: the universe does NOT revolve around you and there are a LOT of people contained within the valley. Just keep working with them and be responsible for yourself instead of getting pissy when you slack off and someone else gets to adopt because they were responsible and on top of things.

We adopted from this location and got approved within 20 minutes and got to pick up our kitten the next day. They were quick because they could tell we would be a good match for the kitten just by body language and because we don't have children (which is a major problem for most animals, because people don't know how to control children or teach them about respect.) We got her, took her to our vet to get our free evaluation, and came home with medicine for a cold. Almost all animals from a shelter leave with a cold due to the germs and stress they are exposed to. She had also gotten an ear infection because she is intolerant to grain (which they had no way of knowing, since she wasn't there long enough for them to tell) and a heart murmur (she purrs so loudly and was so happy when their vet looked at her they couldn't hear her heartbeat (aww)). She is an amazing cat and I am impressed with the facility. They are clean, professional, and care about the animals they adopt out. We donate to them every birthday our two cats have because we have people bring supplies for the shelter instead of more toys for our cats lol.

Wanted to adopt a cat but they would only let me look through glass to see these cats. No wonder animals never sell because they don't let you even get closer than 10 feet. Useless should be shut down

Wonderfully decorated and staff who appreciated our visit. The shelter appears new and in great condition. In comparison, shelters can look very bland at times. Two elderly volunteers allowed us to play with a dog in a visiting room even though we had no intention of adopting that day. Both volunteers were enjoyable as they shared stories and took intrest in us. They care for the animals well and greatly prepare them for adoption.

We found a puppy we wanted to adopt. She was covered in poop both days we looked at her. Smelled like a sewer! Her feet are stained with poop. The lady said they don't allow puppies outside because they are puppies. We went for our meet and greet and the young girl took this puppy and shoved it in our 9 mo old dogs face and he simply walked away. She said it wasn't a fit because our dog wouldn't sniff the puppy. Then they called in their "behavioral specialist" and in 2 minutes she said our dog was aggressive and not a family pet being as he simply walked away from the puppy who was biting him in the face. I told her she doesn't know my dog and she said she knows all dogs cause she's been around dogs for 30 yrs. Absolute joke of a staff and a disgusting filthy place for animals to be. They claim they are trying to save animals but they in fact are killing them with their stupidity (backed by the news reporting the director cleared an officer of charges being filed for strangling a puppy outside their building) and filth they allow them sweet babies to live in. Boycott this disgrace of a place until they are forced to change!!!

Update to this post: I called today to talk to the director who refused to speak to me. The receptionist wouldn't even tranfer me to any superior like I requested. Eventually, a different employee took the call. Instead of addressing the issue of their staff's behavior, their staff made up ridiculous allegations that they had to call the police to have me removed because they were afraid for their lives and then said I sat outside their building yelling and screaming at people that were trying to go in. First off, if the police were called they would make me leave, ticket me and then arrest me if I didn't leave the premises. The cops wouldn't allow me to sit outside their building if they had to be called. I mean common sense in making sure their lies coincide and make sense eludes these people. I reminded the lady that they had camaras that she clearly needed to check to see that none of that transpired. Their entire staff denied anything they said about our dog being aggressive and how the actual meet and greet went which is no surprise with the above mentioned lies they conjured up. The lady claimed that I was just angry because they wouldn't give me THEIR dog and that's why I was calling her to lie about her staff. She would rudely cut me off saying there was nothing to say to me. Repeatedly asked her if she was going to let me finish explaining the prior days events which she had no care to even know what the staff did. So long of the short is good luck filing a complaint when you have the worst experience with this staff because they lie and create ridiculous stories that don't even follow the way the laws actually work. Google the complaints filed against the horrendous director.

I had my puppies spayed and neutered and received their shots there. Very friendly and had us go in the back to get our babies to take the pain medication before surgery. They sent home pain meds after the surgery and we picked them up that day

I've been trying for over 6 months to volunteer at this shelter. I've submitted two separate applications that were both approved, emailed the coordinator probably 8-10 times with no response, and even stopped at the shelter to see what was going on and left my information with the coordinator. Long story short, still not volunteering there because even after stopping in they still have been ignoring my emails and won't give me a time to come in and volunteer. I feel bad those pups are stuck in their cages and just wanted to use my spare time to help get them outside more often and do some outreach to find them a home. Finally just gave up and went to another shelter to volunteer. Unfortunately it's the animals that are stuck missing out because they couldn't spend five minutes to respond and get me started with volunteering.

FVHA helps so many animals find homes or make their way back home to their families. They're currently at max capacity on stray animals and need help! Please donate $, supplies, adopt, or volunteer your time to help the animals if you are able to do so. Make sure your pets are spayed and neutered to prevent unwanted litters of animals becoming stray.

<sigh> I found a little girl feral kitten in the parking lot of my apartment complex. I took the cat in. I returned a little less than 2 weeks later & found out they killed the kitty := (
I don't know or understand the whole story. The lady behind the desk didn't tell me much information on this or seem to know much about this particular cat. She seemed to make up excuses:
1) the cat was marked on its record as feral -> I already knew that. So. She could still be rehabilitated. I looked online & saw that if a feral cat is under 6 weeks they can be acclimated to people. Also, this isn't a hard 6 week cut off. Some people who are really good at it can domesticate them older than this. My kitty was estimated at 4-6 weeks & a month was put down for her paperwork. I have no idea if they even tried.
2) they aren't set up to feed a baby cat every hour -> This wasn't a newborn cat. Feral cats start to wean at 4 weeks. The cat doesn't really need to be nursed like a new born at that age. If it is sick, it can bounce back to a normal kitten routine by giving it some antibiotics, 12 hours, & some TLC.
3) when a cat is feral it panics & doesn't make a good pet -> again see rebuttal for #1
To me what it sounds like is if you take any feral animal in it will probably be killed. Also even domesticated animals might not stand much of a chance.
I told the lady that if I would have known what they were going to do I wouldn't have taken her in. I wish they would have told me that up front.

Very helpful! Looking for a senior dog for my ma and I happened to be in town from shawano and even though they were closed one of the staff was kind enough to come outside and talk with me and even provided me with the adoption papers for my ma to fill out.

Ive been adopting and donating to FVHA for over 20...

Ive been adopting and donating to FVHA for over 20 years and we've had nothing but good experiences until recently.

We are trying to adopt a dog but everytime we find one on the website we are interested in when we go in to meet them they are already adopted. The website could be more accurate.

Also Ive had a few meet and greets ripped away from us. The first one was scheduled 2 weeks ago and when my family and I got there the dog was adopted out, they didnt call me to cancel it or say post "adoption pending" on the dog to ensure this didnt happen.
The second and third ones were scheduled for this last Saturday, my family and I were seconds away from walking out the door to meet some fosters that we were interested in and I noticed 2 missed calls on my phone. I listed to the voicemails. The first one was at 930 saying "please call back to confirm your appointment." The second one was at 11 saying "since we didnt hear back from you, the appointment has been cancelled".
To my knowledge the appoinment was set and I only had to call back if the times didnt work or if I had any questions....so it boils down to, since I wasnt by my phone between 930 and 11 the morning of, due to preparing my house for a prospective four legged visitor and getting my family ready for this meet and greet, I have to miss out on the appointment I had been looking forward to and preparing for.

Of coarse Im frustrated, upset and confused by this, so I called back. The chipper voice on the other side of the line said "Im sorry theres nothing I can do". No trace of sympathy or compassion in her tone, no follow up with any notions of willingness to help or fix this...nothing. So I ask to speak to somebody else, somebody who can help me. This is was followed by a laugh...thats right, she laughed. Im on the brink of tears and she laughed at me, with a voice even chipper then before she stated, "theres noone else here". I have never felt so disrespected and, quite frankly, disregarded in my life. She had no compassion for me or the situation.

Their lack of communication and track record for error in the last month alone is frustrating and unprofessional to say the least.

I am so disappointed in what FVHA has become. Im not doubting that they take good care of their animals but they certainly do not take good care of prospective adopters and seem to be in no hurry to rehome these animals and that is sad.

Had the lady I spoke with been more genuine and helpful I may not have taken that cancelled appointment as hard. No, I probably would have but I would have at least given FVHA another chance.

Unfortunately my adoptions, donations and referrals to FVHA stop now. There are other shelters out there for me to support. Just stinks that the one that is local has to to be the way that it is.

So sad.

My mother in law is an amazing pet owner she has one dog and was looking to adopt an older dog from this humane society. We live an hour and a half away from this facility. She and my husband go and fall in love with a 5 year old dog and do the application for him. A few days later they call one of her references and never do anything else. They call her this past Saturday and say she s not the best fit for the dog, but she could come back in and look at a different dog... okay so Saturday they go and the human society says oh you can adopt the dog you wanted we just need to do a meet and greet with the other dog you have at home ummm she drove an hour and a half for nothing because this place doesn t have anything together. So she tries to set up a meet and greet and was told they can t right because colosis (maybe spelled wrong) the dog she originally wanted has kennel cough.. my mother in law just got a call today (Monday the 27th ) saying they don t think she s the best fit to adopt any pet from them..... ummm she s a better fit than most people that get approved. Is it because she s in her 70 s? Okay age shouldn t ever matter! Do not waste your time at this facility!!! Green Bay has a way better facility. I m so disappointed how unorganized this place is.

We volunteered as a company at FVHA. We got to see first hand that all the animals are very well cared for. The facility is well maintained and clean. The staff was very Friendly and willing to answer all questions. An employee of ours even went back to adopt a dog. We loved volunteering here and I highly suggest to get a group together and do this too. It's super rewarding!!
