We booked a room here for a couple nights right after our wedding for a mini honeymoon. Unfortunately, our day of travel was a bit hectic, as we missed our original flight. We arrived in Fort Lauderdale 7 hours later than we had originally planned, and went straight to the hotel to check in. When we were checking in, there were issues with payment as our friend had payed with her Marriott card. The people at the front desk said we hadn't paid and that we needed to have the card on hand to pay for the room. We had no issue with paying for the room on our card, and sorting our finances out with our friend. A few minutes later the desk employee said "well, if your friend wants to fill out this form and email it to us, she can pay with her card". Great, would have been helpful to get that information to begin with, but okay, fine. We had them email her the form and the payment seemed to be sorted. Next, I specifically asked "we have an ocean view room, correct?" Front desk said, "yes, you have an ocean view room with a balcony." Great! A little bit of trouble, but everything worked out. We went upstairs to our room... not ocean view. Nice view of the drop off downstairs and the neighboring buildings. We went back down to the lobby, this time waiting specifically to speak with the desk manager, Daniel. We were frustrated, the check in process had already taken half an hour, there were already so many issues, and now we've had to come back. I explained to Daniel that we had requested an Ocean View room, and his employee confirmed, and that the room we were given was NOT ocean view. My husband also explained our frustrations. Daniel stood there and just looked at us, with no response. He then opens his mouth and says "oh, I was just waiting for you to finish." very rude. We apologized for our frustration and explained how our day had gone, and that we were on our honeymoon. He pulls up our reservation, turns out our friend had messed up and reserved us an "inter coastal view" (somewhat confusing, but okay, our mistake). Daniel did get us an ocean view room for our 2 night stay, and we were very grateful. My husband went to shake Daniel's hand, and Daniel rudely would not make amends with my husband. He then proceeded to say "I don't want to give you a lecture, but I'm going to. Honey will get you farther in life than vinegar." ..... We went up to our room, where I proceeded to cry for an hour from the totally awful experience with the front desk. I could not get over how incredibly rude Daniel had been with us. He had no customer service abilities, and he was the DESK MANAGER. We avoided the lobby for the rest of the trip, just so that we wouldn't have to see him again.
My friend spent countless hours on the phone with the hotel trying to sort out the payment issues, and she said most of the people she spoke with from the actual hotel were rude to her. She ended up sorting everything out with the 1800 number.
The hotel itself is nice, but I wouldn't stay there again. Not much close by, basically you're at the pool or the beach by the hotel. The outside bar was lovely, and the rest of the staff during our stay were pleasant and friendly (especially the ladies from the gift shop). WiFi was not included. Overall, Daniel left a very sour taste in our mouths. Giving the hotel 3 stars overall.
