Great location on the Georgetown waterfront. Although the place is huge, I'd definitely recommend reservations. On the pricey side & the food isn't amazing. But it's nicely prepared & there are many options.

Fiola Mare is a great place for a nice meal. Its right on the river, so you can take a nice post dinner walk! You can also make reservations easily, a blessing in DC. Upon arrival we decided to eat at the bar instead of a table, and couldn't be happier with the decision. The bartender Storm was a wonderful host, and we ended up having him select our meals without actually looking at the menu. Storm provided the perfect assortment of dishes from the menu and brought enthusiasm to the meal that emanated through the area!
I will be eagerly looking forward to my next opportunity to enjoy Fiola Mare!!
If you love seafood this is the #1 spot in dc,Md,& Va. Very talented chef fron Le Marche Italy has brough true taste of Italy to Georgetown waterfront like no one else. Will blow your mind , fiola mare willl ensure to creat for you and otheres an amazing experience for any type of occasion. From dishes inspired by costa di amalfi like their traditional "spaguetti and clams" to the "Adriatic seafood brodetto".
Food is phenomenal! Its pricey but you get outstanding food. The wine list is extensive. The service was fine and no real complaints but didn't feel like "fine dining". We will still come back and enjoy great food near the Georgetown Waterfront!
We dined earlier this year for Valentine s Day and had an amazing experience. We decided that we d love to go back for my wife s birthday. I made the reservation online but forgot to put that detail in the notes. I called an hour before our reservation to ask if they could notate that for our server. The young lady on the phone said No problem! I then asked about the corkage fee. I was told It s $35 per bottle with a two bottle limit and the bottle of wine cannot be one that s served here at the restaurant. I then asked if she could check if the wine I wanted to bring was on their list. I gave her the details and she said it wasn t on their list. We got to the restaurant and had a great experience. I really wish I remembered our server s name because he was REALLY good. The problem arose when we received our bill and there was a $50 corkage fee. I mentioned this to the server who then went to tell his manager. The manager returned to our table and asked if I remembered who I spoke with on the phone. I told him I didn t ask for her name but I gave him the details of the call I had with the young lady as well as showed him the time I called on my call log in my phone. He then proceeds to tell me that everyone there knows the corkage fee is $50 and if that s what you want to pay then you can pay it as if I came there to spend almost $300 on a dinner only to argue with him about $15! I have much better things to do than that. This left me feeling very disappointed and sad that we even went to this restaurant. It s not my fault I was told that. The business I own is based in customer service. If I had a customer come in with this situation I wouldn t have gone past do you remember who you spoke with. Even if they didn t remember or didn t ask I would have adjusted the bill and at closing I would have reiterated to the staff the price of our corkage fee and wine policies. When you decide to dine at an establishment like this you are going for not only the food but also for the experience. I ll take my money elsewhere next time.
Overpriced mediocre seafood and terrible service to boot. Highly disappointing experience after reading so many positive reviews. Nice view, but save your money and eat elsewhere.
Food was great. I would have given Fiola Mare 4 stars but the service was sub-par. We had a party of six. Our waitress (very thin young Caucasian woman with a ponytail) rolled her eyes every time we asked her for something. Of course we had questions about the menu. Once we ordered our food we didn't bother her much but then we asked for bread. We got a eye roll as if we were getting on her nerves. Almost every encounter with our waitress resulted in eye roll. One of the ladies in our party sent her food back because the Arctic Char was under cooked. Our server didnt seem to like that. Another lady in our party asked another server (our server was not present at this time) to box up her food to go, our server rushed over to the other server and snatched the food from her then came back to our table to see if her Arctic Char was under cooked. She was told no I just wanted to take my food home. Our server then gave the food back to the other server and walked away. After our meal we asked for the dessert menu and was met with more eye rolling. I must say for this to be a fine dining establishment I was not pleased at all with service we received from our server whom we were obviously getting on her nerves. Here is a tip....if you don't want to deal with the public or certain types of the public - don't get a job working in public service. Someone needs to take a hospitality course.
We were here for the brunch and at $50 it was a great deal. Every plate was exquisite, however my recommendation goes to the Sangria; make sure to order it if you want a tasty and fresh drink. Also, make sure to have a reservation, we did and there was no wait, but that wasn't the case for other groups
The Dover Sole was a great choice on the menu. Lobster appetizer, plenty of the meat and a beautiful presentation. Oysters very tasty and our dessert, not to be missed. The side of pasta, the right amount and the right ingredients. With a nice view and attentive staff, our experience more than met our expectations!
Fantastic food, plenty of seating, a little stuffy average clientele for dinner, but don't let that scare you off. Make a stop while on the waterfront for a stroll. Excellent brunch, $$
I would rank this restaurant among the best in the nation. Every aspect of our dinner was perfect, unique and delicious. Expect to pay a bit more than your typical high end restaurant, but this culinary adventure is worth it.
fiola mare food is one of the most delicious meals around washington D.C. his dishes have that freshness in each of its ingredients, it's really spectacular, and his attention is welcoming
One of the best dining experiences I have had in Washington DC. Fantastic service, drinks, atmosphere and food. Comfortable space that wasn't too loud. You really get what you pay for.
Small two decker party boat. Staff was nice and hors d'oeuvre were very good but the boat was kind of small for the almost 40 people we mostly had to sit and not move. The stair were a semicircle so going up with a drink and a plate of food was somewhat uncomfortable.
Incredible restaurant with great view and outstanding service. We went on a brunch for my birthday and the food was amazing. The server was a gentleman and brought us a special tasting from the chef and a small cake with a candle. At the end, we got a special card from the restaurant. I felt like I was with family.
Very good seafood with nice views of the river from some of the indoor tables. Try the smoked cocktail! The dress code is absolutely not enforced in any way. I saw men in shorts, sandals and tank tops. Very few were dressed up. Not complaining, but they should be accurate on their website about the dress code.
Hands down, the best restaurant in Washington D.C. I've been coming to Fiola Mare since 2014 and brought along countless groups of first timers. No matter where they come from or what their tastes may be, my friends have all consistently praised the food here as the best they've ever had. Dining here is also an absolute delight thanks to the superb staff and service.
We went here for a anniversary in the food was Dynamite. I have a habit of usually not ordering off the menu and just asking our waiter what the best dishes are. Chosen for me were there oysters, lobster ravioli, and branzini. Everything was absolutely perfect.
We had an outstanding meal to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We ordered the following items:
Jumbo Tiger Prawn Cocktail Crispy Softshell Crab Salt Crusted Branzino (Mediterranean Sea Bass) Side orders of asparagus and potatoes Bomboloni (ricotta donuts with maple budino and vanilla) Blood Orange Spumoni
Came there for lunch on a Tuesday at 1pm and the place was practically empty. Asked for a table outside in the upper patio and was told no, those table are only for reservations, there was only one other couple there eating at the time. All the tables were empty. The hostess would not let us sit there and put is at a table on the lower patio. I told her that I bet that table we wanted to sit at would still be empty when we left and sure enough it was...the hostess was very unfriendly. We ordered a salad, soft shell crab and the lobster roll. The salad was good except for the fact that a nice lump of cheese was at the very bottom of the salad. So we ate the whole salad only to discover the cheese at the bottom after we already ate the salad... The Lobster roll had more tomatoes in it than anything. Tomatoes? Also was not a fan of the soft shell crab, many strange flavors and couldn t really even taste the crab. They have a nice restaurant in a great location. Too bad the hostess was so unfriendly and the food could have been much better if they didn t try so hard. Sometimes simple is better.
As much as this review is about the food, it's also just as much about the service. I haven't felt so welcome at a restaurant, I think, ever. In addition to the standard offering for water, bread, etc., I also received a personal greeting from the manager as soon as I sat down. The waiter was so friendly and patient, striking up conversation, making me feel at home. I was also gifted an additional dessert, complements of the chef. Food is ridiculously good too. I opted for several smaller plates and all were extremely refined and light to the palate. Would recommend everything I had: TUSCAN CHESTNUT "VELLUTATA", VENETIAN CRUDO MISTO, LOBSTER RAVIOLI. BLOOD ORANGE SPUMONI, and TIRAMISU.
Restaurant next to the river with indoor and outdoor tables overlooking the quiet river cars do not pass and good view quiet good attention menu entry second and dessert for less than 30 dollars
This was supposed to be a great experience. We waited a half hour beyond our reserved table time, during which we were encouraged to just go to the bar and order another drink. How to ruin dinner . . , We were finally seated with a good waitress. NO ONE poured wine after the first glass or took further drink orders until asked - we did it as though we were home. The appetizers were really delicious. Then, because the service had been so appalling, they trotted out a chef with our main course, who told us he'd served the Obamas' and proceeded to have staff shave what appeared to be truffles on everything we'd ordered. It was not truffles, unless it was some wax coating over the real thing. And they shaved it onto the main courses, two of which featured shrimp - shrimp so overcooked that it was beyond embarrassing It was so bad that we walked out, leaving almost a full, second bottle of wine and the contents of three out of four of our main courses. Don't go here - you will not feel special, believe me. We are home chefs - not trying to overblow things, but none of us would have ever stood next to the food we were served and said - right -accurate cooking , , , , Don't do this to yourselves for $600+ Just don't.
I think it's fair to judge a restaurant by the overall experience. Wouldn't you agree with me? If you do this restaurant has a wonderful overall experience. The waterfront in Georgetown is a wonderful place for people watching. The quality of the food and the high quality of the service cannot be emphasized enough. Thus overall Fiola Mare should be on your list to visit and enjoy the experience.
Good seafood at exorbitant prices. Big, impersonal, and noisy. Got the main course before I even finished the appetizer. I have eaten here three times and have never been impressed. The flagship Fiola on the other side of NW Washington, however, is another story and one of my favorite restaurants anywhere.
Fiola Mare _was_ one of my favorite spots for dinner and brunch. I have always loved the service we received from the staff, the somm, and general manager. Whenever we had a special occasion, I always considered this place. I took a long break from this place simply because there were so many awesome restaurants popping up in the District and I wanted to give them a try.
I recently returned to Fiola Mare for brunch with my friends. While I would have rated this restaurant with five stars back in those days when food, service, and ambiance deserved the high markings, my recent visit changed that.
Our server was a bit condescending.
It started when our server asked for our drinks. I requested for an Aperol Spritz garnished with both an orange slice and skewered olives. He looked at me quizzically so I repeated my order. Then he said, that sounds disgusting, but okay, chuckled and shrugged his shoulders, referring to the fact that I wanted olives in my spritz. What this man didn t realize was that the style of spritz I ordered is how spritzes are actually served all over Italy, and is commonly referred to as a Venetian Spritz. Nevertheless, I should be able to order my drink the way I want without question, let alone condescension.
Then, when we placed our food orders, I requested that they pace the serving so that our actual meals arrive with enough space after our appetizers. Even in high-end restaurants, they can sometimes rush the dishes, so I simply wanted it to be known that there was no rush on getting our food all at once. Again, in a condescending manner, he responded with, Naturally, as if my statement was unwanted.
If you re still reading this review at this point, you might ask why I simply didn t rate this place with two stars.
The reason I didn t rate this visit with a lower rating is because of the food and our time with the somm, as well as weighing the other times I ve been here where the service and cuisine combined made the visit worthwhile.
The food was just as I remembered delicious and well-prepared. The pasta and all the other ingredients with it were fresh and flavorful. The grilled calamari was divine! The sauce was so good we took the bread to sop it in the sauce. Mmmm...
Our somm was patient and helpful with our wine selection. We chose a beautiful bottle of Pinot Noir from Russian River Valley, and enjoyed it along with our meals.
In conclusion, I have no plans to rush back to this place. There are plenty of other restaurants in D.C. that can deliver quality foods, exquisite wines, and stellar service, all at the same time, without costing you and arm and a leg. To find out, see my other reviews.
Man, this place is better than it's already amazing reputation. Every single dish was fantastic. The service is excellent. And the wait staff know what they are talking about.
Had a awesome time.
The scallops were great. And the veggies amazing. Eggplant is terrific. And they made us mushrooms even though it wasn't on the menu that night. And I'm glad we asked for them.
Located right on the Georgetown waterfront. Fiola Mare offers a great fine dining experience all the around. This was my second time here, but the first time I had a full meal away from their bar.
I came with my wife and we both got the Brunch menu. You get the choice of three different types of drinks, an appetizer, main course and a dessert for $65 a person.
I got the eggplant, lemon ricotta pancakes, and blood orange spumone. My wife got the burrata, Fiola Mare Breakfast and the tiramisu. Everything is was excellent! We didn t know but we also ordered a drink from their signature cocktail menu which was not included in the brunch. We got the Bellagio and the foreign policy.
The restaurant itself is impeccably clean, our orders were brought out to us quickly and correctly. The whole staff is knowledgeable, friendly and delivers amazing customer service. I look forward to coming back soon.
The fact that people say this is one of the nicest restaurants in Georgetown, really worries me. I paid $85 per person for their all inclusive brunch. They up-charged me on almost everything I ordered, it would ve been less expensive to not go with the all inclusive. The charged me an extra $12 for chocolate cake for crying out loud! My check was $400 for 3 people and they served me a hunk of goat cheese with frozen grass on it and wasn t pleased with anything I ordered nor were my friends who I was treating. This place is nothing short of a kitchen nightmares episode and I highly recommend going to another spot. Went to a cafe after to have some coffee and had better service and quality by far!
Please do yourself a favor and avoid this place. I ve never posted a bad review IN MY LIFE, but this was just sad.
I have been to this restaurant many times due to its quality of service, the superb seafood dishes, and the perfect Potomac River view ambiance. It is easily one of the best restaurants in DC metro area.
