I want to be as fair here as possible, so this is going to be a long review. There were 4 of us dining. We ordered two appetizers, the dumplings and chicken rolls with apple and sweet chilli sauce. I have a garlic allergy so could not eat the appetizers. But the other three adults dining with me did not like them at all, and we were all quite hungry. The wonton soup was good, but in fact must have had garlic because within 20 minutes I was extremely sick. The waiter who took our order could only offer me fried rice or rice noodles to accommodate my garlic allergy. I felt this was extremely poor considering this restaurant is not a chain and should be able to at least add fresh vegetables and make a decent sauce with basic ingredients available in the kitchen to any reasonably skilled chef. I have managed to eat at many Chinese restaurants who have been able to make a good without garlic. Normally I would be very understanding due to the fact that they were apparently trying to be careful to not get garlic in my food. But in this case the waiter just kept explaining to me how Chinese restaurants in general had so much garlic and and would be unable to cook for me, this was made as a general statement and not something specific to this restaurant. They did give me the fried rice at no cost, and clearly wanted me to be happy about that. I found this attitude to be very annoying as the waiter kept on talking and talking about it, and I just wanted to get back to my group discussion, and I wanted to try to move on from the fact that I was going to get something from this restaurant that I could have made myself at home. The situation ended up being too focused on the difficulty the restaurant had accommodating my food allergy. Back to the other entrees, the other dishes were not good. We had two chicken and one shrimp entrees. We will not be returning to this restaurants for two reasons, the food is not very good according to all four adults in our party, and if a dish is not good the staff is very strange about it. I will end by restating I did appreciate that they did not charge me for the chicken fried rice. I do want to temper that by stating this was simply rice, egg, chicken, and a few frozen peas and carrots seasoned with soy sauce, a dish I could have made better myself at home.

Neat food, nice size of portions and hippie ambiance! Service was swift, personable and knowledgeable.

Fat Dragon is not a truly authentic Chinese cuisine nor experience. It s more of a fusion cuisine. Not bad, but not what I expected.

Make sure to bring lots of warm clothes -- AC will freeze you quickly. For these two reasons, I am giving 4 stars.

Price: The pricing is reasonable. You can find dishes in a wide range of prices, from $10 for fried rice to $16-17 for more meat-centered dishes.

Quality of food: I tried Ancient Fried Rice with Pork BBQ for $10 as well as Veggie Spring Rolls for a couple of $. As a main entree, ancient fried rice was sizeable and quite good. Make sure to drink plenty of water as it can stuff you easily!

Service: Staff was very nice and helpful. I would like to highly commend the lady with glasses that was serving my table.

Cleanliness: The place is very clean! Bathrooms were clean, too.

Ambiance: Not authentically Chinese. However, it is a very modern place with nice hippie decor.

Bathrooms: There are two uni-sex bathrooms in the back. They are somewhat clean, but VERY COLD.

Accessibility: Accessible for people with disabilities.

Final Verdict: I would visit Fat Dragon again.

Definitely enjoyed myself here. A lot smaller than it looks, but you don't feel like you have everyone sitting right next to you. The food you get for the pricing is a LOT! It's good too, and the drink selection, while not as expansive as Mekong or Capital Ale, is pretty repetitiveness for anyone's choice.

Probably the best Chinese restaurant I have tried! Great atmosphere and tasty food! If you love Chinese food then this is the spot to go to in RVA.

It was packed on a Monday at 7:30pm so that just shows you how good the food is. I ordered shrimp fried rice which came with peas and carrots. I started to ask them to hold the peas and carrots but I'm glad I didn't. The food was flavorful and delicious. Best Shrimp fried rice I ever tasted...Did I mention the portions are large!!!!!

The portions are big and the food is good. Not as spicy as Ginder Thai and it's a more American spin on Chinese food. Biggest complaint was how loud it was. Not ideal for a date or conversation.

This was the first time I have ever been there. I always judge Asian restaurants by how well they make dumplings. Fat Dragon's are melt in your mouth good. So I figure whatever else they make will be just as good. One thing you need to know is they do not give a grades hot indicator. It either has a chili symbol by it or it doesn't. I like spicy food, and the only chili symbol they give you is very spicy and delicious. I consider myself a medium spicy lover and it was at the top of my tolerance. Hope that helps.

The food is absolutely delicious, and their cocktails are great too. The service is always good when I've been in!

Can't say anything bad. The fried mushroom app is one of my favs in the area. Entress are always on point. The bar is super cool too.

Food was okay. Server was polite. Kung Pao shrimp could have had more shrimp versus celery. Ginger Beer was fantastic though.

I called in an order over the phone around 9 pm and ordered shrimp and beef fried rice. I asked the lady over the phone if I can have the shrimp put in a different container other than the plastic container and she went on to tell me reasons why I should keep the shrimp in the plastic container even though I said I didn t want it in the plastic because the moisture from the steam would make the fried shrimp sweat inside of the plastic. When I came in to get my order the shrimp was in the plastic container and kind of soggy. I then asked for her to put it in a different container and waited while she did that. I was not able to eat my food right away because I was on my way to my husbands job. We didn t get home from there until almost midnight. When I got home I noticed that they gave me some kind of noodle dish. I ordered beef fried rice. I called in the next day to make a complaint only to have the manager tell me I should have called that night and that unfortunately there is nothing he can do about it. He came across as someone who does not care at all about customer satisfaction and was not very nice over the phone. Needless to say I spent 25 dollars for soggy shrimp and some kind of noodles that didn t look very tasty. As I am a struggling mom of three children I m not able to eat out often but when I do I expect that the place I go to spend my very hard earned money will treat me like I m a valued customer or at least be treated fairly. I work hard for everything I have. Just upset that s all. Thank you for listening to what I had to say and I hope the next person gets treated better.

I come here for happy hour whenever I can, and we generally order a pile of discounted appetizers. The food is amazing, and always delivered quickly, even when the place is packed. The drink specials and selection are good, and the service is always quick and friendly.

Had a few apps and drinks, was great! Loved the veggie rolls.

The best Chinese food I've had in Richmond thus far!

Definitely liked it but there was room for improvement. Food and drinks were good but the service was pretty slow and honestly rather expensive given how the service was.

2018-04-15 Kat provided excellent service and she's really nice, hot and sour soup, wonton soup, spring rolls, beef entree, garlic chicken and ginger salad were all good

Hey sorry about the one start eating. It was unintentional. I ate dinner at Fat Dragon last night and it was delicious. I have edited the rating to more accurately reflect my impression.

Numb numb beef ramen bowl is incredible!! Delicious! But beware..the waiter says hot he means HOT!!!
The fei-lone beef was full of huge pieces of beef and a glossy sauce!! It was also pretty spicy!
We enjoyed Dragons Breath chicken wings as and app. My daughter had sauteed broccoli in garlic sauce that cooks not be beat!
Fat Dragons is one to try!

Called and Samantha who answered was very nice! Helped with order and brought out food in a timely manner. Location seems like it's in a up and coming area.

Great food and service! We really enjoyed our meal here as the food was flavourful but not too hot. There is an excellent selection of beers and cocktails too. We came in a Friday and the place was packed but we waited at the bar for a table and it was well worth the wait

I was looking for a Chinese food experience but the food had no Chinese flavors to it. Food was ok but pricey. Spent $34 for lunch. I'd hate to see the dinner menu.

Waiter forgot about us (>30 minutes) and there was hair in the food.

Frequent flyers at our favorite Richmond restaurant. Delicious food and awesome drafts on the corner of N boulevard. Well worth our drive from Alexandria Va especially visiting with Kylee (mgr) who always makes sure our experience is nothing short of fabulous

Delishious Asian cuisine with good prices and fun staff. Spicy steamed dumplings are the BEST! Come hungry and leave happy. Our server was top notch as well.

Food is very good, menu isn't huge but is adequate. My biggest issue is it is a bit expensive hovering around $17-$18 a plate.

Arrived at 9:50, ten mins prior to the kitchen being closed for the evening. We placed our order rather hastily, when the food came out it was hot and delicious. Customer service was awesome as always, our host was very helpful and knowledgeable of the various food and beverage choices.

I decided to go out to dinner with a friend for my last night in RVA after living here for three years. Upon our arrival I could instantly sense that we were not really wanted. All of the managers/workers were so eager to meet our expectations before we could even vocalize to them, as if they were fearful of what we might do based on their preconceived thoughts of my friend and I. To make a long story short our server was not very attentive. He goes on to make sure and check on all his other tables around us but only acknowledged us a total of three times. When I asked for things it was always a challenge and presented without care. The food was delicious and the food runner was very nice and cheerful however the overall experience of how I was treated as a person was terrible, not welcoming and I am happy to say that I will not be spending my money there ever again. :)

This is our go-to Chinese food in RVA. The dynamite shrimp are a must, and the pho is some of my favorite.

Definitely enjoyed Fat Dragon. Very cool atmosphere; very hip. The food was rich and juicy, and everything had just a hint of spiciness. Most everything we got was great. I should mention the downside of the menu being a bit restrictive, so give it a glance over before you go, and don't be afraid to try some new things.

My ex-wife, 9 year old son, and I needed a quick dinner between work and a 6:30 Cub Scout meeting in the Fan. We had planned to go to En Su Boca, but they had a 45 minute wait which is fine, but the hostess was extremely rude. Off to Fat Dragon. We were seated promptly, and graciously. While working on my son's homework at the table we ordered the Crispy Chicken Rolls, Chef's Stir Fry Ramen, and Tangerine Chicken to share. Our server was very knowledgeable on the ingredients, was kind, and quick. She, and the young man that was helping her were excellent. The food was quickly served, hot, fresh, full of flavor, and plentiful. Thanks to Fat Dragon for doing such a great job.

Good site for delicious Chinese food. i wish there were more places like this around town. this place has a cool design. food is similar to a cafe in indianapolis i loved.

I would stand by their claim of best chinese restaurant in Richmond. Huge portions as well as a diverse drink selection. Service was courteous, professional, friendly, and frequent. Limited seating so do yourself a favor and call ahead.

Ramen bowls are good, drinks also. Stir fry dishes are forgettable and very oily. Over priced for the quality.

The waitstaff was excellent and the ambience was perfect, a nice balance between the Thursday night drink crowd and late night dinner group. The food was top of the line and our party got a wide range of items that were all excellent. Great beer selection too, and modest prices!

Great place, took the wife and kids there coming from NY. The food was tasty and unique. The drinks were marvelous, and the staff was excellent. I definitely recommend this place to anyone with an eclectic sense of taste and ambiance. We love eating out fortunately we found a great restaurant through google map and reading other customers reviews.. Two thumbs all the way up

Pretty standard Chinese food. Was not blown away, nothing new here. Hot and sour soup was very good. Jalapeno beef fried rice was lacking both title ingredients, but had a good flavor. Hour long wait on Sat night, but bar was open for immediate service.

This is one of my most favorite restaurants in Richmond; my friends and family even threw me a surprise party here! I'm obsessed with the green beans and every dish I have ever tried has been delicious. We like to come here for the happy hour specials as well and the bar staff is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Delicious and creative food. Everything was a 10. We had chicken rolls, tangerine chicken and chicken and noodles.
