Great place to visit! Make sure you purchase a City Pass so that you can see more local sights at a manageable price. The horror section was truly amazing. The Jimi Hendrix exhibit was wonderful as well.
Was pleasantly surprised with how fun this museum was. Still haven t built up the courage to listen to the terrible song my husband and I recorded. Go first thing when they open, was not too busy then.
Fun place to spend an afternoon when it's raining in Seattle.
It s always a fun place to visit and enjoy the permanent and traveling exhibits.
As much as i love Nirvana and Pearl Jam, as much as i love sci-fi, terror and fantasy, as much as i love Indie Videogames.... 30$ is way too much for a museum, specially if you compare it with the greater museums around the world. It is a special museum, but the price is not worth it, the content is little and some exhibits just feel insufficient.
You can see my point in the following list:
Louvre - 19$
El Prado - 17$
Moma NY - 25$
Metropolitan NY - 25$
Uffizi gallery - 15 $
Vatican Museums - 19$
Guggenheim Bilbao - 19$
Guggenheim NY - 10$
British Museum - Free
Meow Wolf Santa Fe - 25$
MoPOP 30$

Fascinating and enjoyable afternoon wandering around.
Over priced and there isn't much to see, the museum doesn't need more than an hour and a half.
We had a great time here. All the exhibits are well put together and are well worth the time and money to visit.
Went here back in spring, the last week of the Nirvana exhibit. Just with that alone I was soo pleased. As a HUGE Kurt/Nirvana fan, I was so grateful to see such an amazing exhibit. So many neat original props and photos, I felt a chill just going through it all. The rest of the museum was very fascinating too. I loved really enjoyed the horror exhibit and the rock n' roll guitars. It was such a huge museum that we didn't get to check out the video game exhibit. I will def. be going back here tho. Thanks MoPop!
Cool place from the outside, memory evoking but I did not want to pay $60 to see it. Shouldn't pop culture be accessible to everyone?
What a great experience for anyone interested in pop culture of any kind. A very open concept where you can explore the many exhibits at your leisure while taking in the many sights and sounds associated with various exhibits.
I had so much fun at this place!
Seing Pearl Jam and Nirvana's rooms was very special!
The rooms from the movies are also fun!
Suggest go there with plenty of time...
Fun day with the family. Some great things to see. The kids love it.
Full of interesting movie props and stuff. There is a section in the middle which is less interesting. Since the last time I was there they have added star trek props dedicated section.
This museum is super cool. The standing SciFi and fantasy exhibits are solid and the rotating showcase has always been good when I've gone. I've seen Star Trek and Marvel. The building is a Frank Gehry and a work of art in it's own right. The grounds are awesome too with the Soundgarden play structures. Park at Westlake Center and take the monorail in which runs through negative space in the building for the full experience.
Best Music experience. Not to crowned for a Saturday.
Super fun place with a lot of educational moment. It was a blast!
Absolute five star experience and one of the best museums in the world in my opinion. The Museum of Pop Culture just have something for everyone - not just for adults but for kids as well. Big gratitude to the late Paul Allen who found this fascinating museum. I was personally intrigued by the Nirvana exhibits. Our guide Jenn (self proclaimed Nirvana geek!) gave us a content rich 45-min tour of the full history of the band. Kids enjoyed the Sci-Fi, gaming and fantasy sections. I also got a taste of the Pearl Jam exhibits (even though I am not a huge Pearl Jam fan). The kids thoroughly enjoyed the Sound Lab and they got to experience drumming and guitar 101 as well as a wide range of sound experiments. We spent close to three hours there. Highly recommend for adults (ok guys mainly) and kids.
A really beautiful and different museum. It's hours of fun and interesting exhibits!
The marcel exhibit was awesome, pay the extra couple bucks to see it before it s gone!
A wonderful place i am in love with the studio rooms they are so fun to fool around in, I feel like a kid again. 10/10 would visit again.
The exhibits were 50/50. Totally underwhelming for the price of entry.
Fun pace to bring family, exhibits change every few months so there s always a reason to check it out. Entrance fee and gift shop prices a little on the steep end.
MARVEL-OUS! Right now, Marvel Universe. As Stank Lee would say, 'Nuff Said.
Great museum with a super exhibition. You can make it in two or three hours and the prices are fair. Especially the temporary exhibit of the Marvel universe is incredible. I really recommend the visit. You learn a lot about the music of Seattle and its two great stars: Jimi Hendrix and Nirvana. But it is not only a must for a music lover. With its hall of fame of the movie and two special exhibitions of Sci-Fi and Horror also great for anyone who loves movies. For me a must in Seattle.
My husband enjoyed the Jimmy Hendrix and Nirvana areas and I loved the Fantasy, Star Trek portion. There was another area that covered all the other sci Fi worlds that have been created. Like terminator, star wars, fifth element kind of stuff. We enjoyed that as well. The guitar tower was cool. We would go again.
So well put together! Recommending to everyone i know! Whatever you do the CityPass is the way to go
This place would appeal to a wide range of ages and it covers a large range of interests. We spent an enjoyable couple of hours looking around. The Nirvana exhibition was comprehensive, l found they had visited my home town in the Uk in 1989. We particularly enjoyed the hands on music room, allowing unexpected access to instruments, guitars and drums, which many people would never have had the chance to do. The science fiction rooms were full of interesting memorabilia as well as lots of cute hello kitty items. The building is a Frank Gehry design and is a must to see particularly outside. We also found that they could store our luggage which was the only place we found that could do so in Seattle.
The EMP is a decent place to visit. Unfortunately it is hard to justify the price.
Such a cool place! Loved watching all the kiddos having a ball. The city center is a great place to spend a beautiful day like today!
Fun experience :) lots to see and do. Favorite part was the music area.
The people that work here are great. I enjoyed the exhibits and you don't have to carve out a whole day inside, maybe 3- 4 hours if you go thru it all. I found parking close by at a meter.
Spent about 1-2 hours inside, lots of neat things and you can take pictures of anything (without Flash). They have neat audio sound booth to play with drums, guitar, and vocals.
definitely worth the time and money to check this place out, has a super cool vibe full of history and displays. the staff was great and everything was well thought out and well maintained.
Last summer, I was at some Avatar Virtual Experience Booth. That was so cool stuff though. After recording of myself, there were PCs for sending the clip to my email. Unfortunately, I have never received anything so far. I know it was long ago but just wonder the cool movie of me. Can I get that?
the door people checking ids outside at the event saturday night were beyond unprofessional. this tainted the entire event. wont be back to anything the emp ever puts on for any reason.
Amazing, lots of stuff to see, diverse. Absolutely worth it.
You can save 2 dollars if you buy the ticket online
Great exposition of music history, can learn to play music instruments and mix some tracks, fantasy, sci-fi and horror expositions, comics, etc. Really enjoyed the visit.
Love this place! Its easy to spend a whole day here! A lot of things to see, popular things.
Wonderful exhibitions. A bit early for the Queens exhibit, but the current scifi hall of fame was a trip and the usual standing exhibits (Science Fiction, Horror, Fantasy) have gotten some kick butt updates in recent years. They put a lot of work into the ambiance of every individual display and it really pays off.
Amazing exhibits. Really cool how the fantasy, horror, scifi exhibits explain things in terms of the anatomy of the genre. I loved this museum so much.
VERY CONFUSING BUILDING so grab a map so you don t miss anything! Features a lot of music pop culture exhibits including hands on experience for free. There is also movie pop culture exhibits. It s pretty expensive. Would recommend getting the CityPASS if you re planning on going to more than 3 tourists destinations .
An awesome place to see unique movie and show props and artwork
Had some awesome exhibits. I really liked the sound studio area it was really neat.
What a great place to visit for the day! They have lots of terrific exhibits devoted to music, movies and video games (with some TV mixed in). The last time we went, they had a terrific Marvel exhibit I really enjoyed. That isn't there anymore, but they always have different exhibits that rotate in and out. Also keep in mind that the Museum of Pop Culture (MoPOP) used to be the Experience Music Project (EMP) until the name changed in the last couple of years.
This is a really cool place to visit. Lots of interesting exhibits to see. Great for kids too. Spent the whole day there. If I lived nearby I would sign up for the membership. A great fun family friendly place to visit.
This is one of the greatest museums I have ever been to. I personally loved the Nirvana and Fantasy sections but the Jam Room was a great way to really give everyone an experience of music. The architecture is beautiful, even if a bit easy to get lost in (but your in Seattle anyways...), and a great use of copper as a main color. If your in Seattle and need absorb yourself in the history of all things popular, come here.
This museum seemed very unsure of itself. A lot of good exhibits and pop culture memorabilia (mostly owned by Paul Allen) but the exhibits were quite small and less thorough than I'd liked. Not quite worth the $28 fee.
Beyond belief. A must see for lovers of music and pop art. Takes a good day to see it all.
I highly recommend this amazing museum! They have an eclectic assortment of exhibits that will appeal to many ages. Although, if I were a parent, I would say that it's not as engaging for younger kids because, with a only few exceptions, the museum is not overly interactive. Although I geeked out hard, I wouldn't bring my 4th-graders on a field-trip (assuming I lived in Seattle).
Spent 2 days here - still didn't see and experience everything. On par with going to a Smithsonian.
This is one of the most unique and enjoyable museums that I have ever visited. When I was there in 2009, I enjoyed the exhibits on Jimi Hendrix, and also liked the famous guitars room. The attached Science Fiction museum is phenomenal, and any diehard sci-fi fan could spend a good part of a day admiring the props and displays. I wouldn't miss this place on any visit to Seattle.
So my pop culture knowledge is pretty much nil, and you can imagine I was a bit wary about checking out a museum called "The Museum of Pop Culture". I imagined it as a museum of tribute items to popular bands, so was kind of meh about it originally.
This museum is SO much more, and I would definitely go again in a heartbeat. Some highlights:
- Fashion exhibit with some super ridiculous costumes. Think giant lobster dress, (real + taxidermied) bird bra, clothes made of wood. Really, really cool!
- Video game exhibit with a couple of traveling games that you can't really play elsewhere. I had such a kick with Tenya Wanya Teens... give it a play if you can!
- Rooms that were fantasy, horror, and scifi themed. So much fun, and I'm far from a nerd in any of these areas.
The whole museum is really hands on and interactive. There are sound proof rooms where you can go and pretend to be a sound engineer, singer, guitar player, or DJ, for instance.
Of course, there were exhibits more along the lines of what I had originally expected in a Pop Culture museum (e.g. there was a whole exhibit on Nirvana when I went). These exhibits were really well done and I found them really interesting, despite my lack of familiarity with the bands. :)
Aim to spend easily an afternoon here. I'd say at least 3-4 hours to see everything.
EMP is a mix of contemporary cultures.
It's the perfect place for music-crazy people. There's a music hall on the third floor, where you can try guitars, pianos, etc.
They also have temporary exhibits like Hello Kitty this spring and Star wars this summer.
Loved to see the Harry Potter movie charecters ..JK Rowling's pic, Back to the future skate boards and many more..
I really only came here because it was included in my city pass but I am so glad I did, loved the exhibits and had a great time.
Fabulous place to spend rainy afternoon in Seattle. Avatar exhibit is fabulous with amazing hands on features. The guitar collection alone is worth price of admission. Hendrix exhibit very good as was AC/DC. The sound lab on third floor was incredible hands on. People who put this place together are very good. Spend an afternoon here. Enjoy yourself. We did.
This is a wonderfully designed museum - lots of cool stuff like movie memorabilia, but presented in a very immersive fashion. The fantasy section is particularly fun - feels like a medieval forest and castle, with a dragon.
