One of the most beautiful palace. What a wonderful piece of architecture.
One of the most beautiful palace. What a wonderful piece of architecture.
Gorgeous and beautiful. Love the complimentary audio guides.
Gardens are amazing. Skip the castle unless the line to get on is short.
Very disappointing mainly due to overcrowding. The palace is large, and historic, but the art was monotonous and it was so crowded you really couldn t see anything. We waited for 1-2 hours to get in, then could barely breathe it was so mobbed. The town was nice.
Stunning!
Please ensure you allocate sufficient time for your visit. Probably you will need one full day to see everything inside and the beautiful gardens
It's Palace of Versailles... What more do you expect.
Gorgeous place, although a bit too crowded especially in summer. The garden is the best part of it, shouldn't be missed.
Highly recommend seeing the Palace of Versailles! You won't be disappointed!
Definitely a must visit while in Paris. The gardens are gorgeous. The property itself is clearly a 5/5 but it seems like there could be better management of visitors. They allow too many visitors in the palace at one time to the point where walking becomes a challenge. Feels like they could do a better job separating walking areas and photo areas as tourists taking photos impede the progress of everybody else through the palace. The gardens have plenty of open space to walk around. The garden train felt excessively expensive for the benefit it provides. Wear rain gear and boots if going on a rainy day as the gardens are fairly muddy.
Beautiful palace. Neat tour inside the building. Gardens were cool but non of the fountains are on during the week. :(
The ticket price was 18 for the inside tour. A bit pricey considering how little of the palace you are able to explore. It does include an individual handheld audio tour which improved the experience.
Walking the gardens was free and open to the public. If you are looking to save money and still experience Versailles, you could easily satisfy this experience by walking the grounds.
I traveled from downtown Paris using the local Metro/subway and RER lines. It took about an hour and cost about 5 each way. The train station in Versailles is about a 10 minute walk from the ticket office.
The place is great with big crowd. It's a day long trip. Half of it is outdoor. Need to be prepared for it.
Great place. I hope I'm going to visit Paris every year
No time to get in and look inside...but, could imagine how beautiful inside...
This is mass tourism at its finest! Be prepared for queuing, groups blocking your way and people taking relentlessly pictures. The royal chambers are nice but I did not enjoy my visit very much because it was too crowded. Also, there are several royal palaces in Europe that have a bigger number of more elaborate chambers than I have seen in Versailles. The huge garden however, with the many fountains is wonderful. So, I only recommand you to visit the gardens.
Beautiful palace. . beautiful grounds. Lots of walking.
The palace is magnificent in all its glory, and really huge! But with more than 5 million visitors per year you're really walking in a crowd all the time you're inside. The park outside the palace is far better, since it is 8 sq.km. large. 50 fountains, more than 2000 statues and 200 000 trees makes for an unforgettable visit.
Beautiful palace, Fabulous gardens, definitely recommend a skip the line guided tour.
Had to pay into the garden which I was a little bummed about, but the experience was definitely worth it. So beautiful
Extremely busy but lovely! Golf buggy for gardens is a must
Big beautiful palace. We didn't go inside but just at the garden. It was lovely and worth the trip from Paris.
Worst system ever.
Already brought ticket online, still have to wait for 1 hour to get in since there are only 2 security counters at the enterance.
Then spent another hour queuing for the audio guide. There are a lot of staff there, but only ONE of them deliver the audio guide.
By then, already spent 27 just for standing 2 hours outside with rain and wind, and still has not yet see a single exhibit or even step foot inside
Best place and museum like ever! Mirror room is the best. French emperors were very desirable to show all their richness and power. It look a little bit too much for modern time but all things are well preserved. You can stay all day here so make a list what you want to see. Should get guided tour. For students from EU, entrance and ticket are free.
Great stop on the France tour. A little far away from the city centre but definitely worth the journey. I would recommend going on a weekday though so it won't be as crowded. A must see place to visit!
An amazing place to visit for learning French history and to experience a degree of the opulence the monarchy once indulged. There is so very much to see and ponder walking through the halls and gardens. I maybe saw half of everything in 3 hours there, so plan accordingly.
Had a great experience.. if you go during the week entrance to gardens is free (weekends 9 )
Nice picnic areas .... chateau inside is a incredible
An interesting and historical place, but you feel herded along because the crowds are so thick. The excesses of the ruling class were amazing.
Short walk from the train station, easy to find. Long queue at the entrance but luckily we bought passports with timed entry for 13:00 so we could skip the line within the half an hour timeframe which was a lifesaver because it looked like an at least 30-min queue outside for those without a timed entry. As expected during summer, crowed inside the palace, you ve just got to move slowly along the stream of people. The audio guide in the mobile app was particularly useful, gave us lot of information about different rooms of the palace. However, instead of having a feeling of visiting a palace, it gave us more of a museum feel. The gardens were no doubt the highlight of the trip, symmetrical and beautifully tended. We could only finish a small part of it because of the little time we had. We had a little trouble finding toilets as some of the toilets inside the gardens closed early. For anyone visiting, we would suggest planning a whole day there, especially if you like spending time in the gardens.
The queue was a mile long, so we decided to give it a miss. This place is oversubscribed. All tickets should be pre booked and limited. People were herded like cattle to get access. Life is too short for this. I was there in 1979 and the experience was so much nicer.
Everything was so pretty. The garden outside was bleh but I went in January so it makes sense. Other than that it was gorgeous!
One star for the magnificent of the Palace and one star because it is an important remainder of the past. Price too expensive for what to see. Location is a bit far, not much too see. Better the louvre and Paris city itself
Ahmazing!!! I do wish that there was english under the artwork, I woukd have liked to know the back ground info on some of the images. Great que control. I was here 5 years ago and it's improved 100%
The massive line outside made us wait in the sun for over an hour, and the palace itself is disappointingly small... at least the area opened to the public is small. It's less than 1/3 of what I saw at Museum of Louvre. Overcrowded, we was pushed like cattle along the way.
For the outside garden, it's great, amazing! Bring an umbrella, or hat and surely a pair of sunnies.
One most important comment I want to make is that you aren't allowed to bring food with you. Our food were taken away and stored and latter were allow to collect st exit. The security people went through our food, and took our salad away, mixed the rest of our food with other peoples and we had to select our food out of the mixed pile. It's disappointing. I am pretty sure that these security team were fed on these tourist food they stole every single day. Its outrageous!
Beautiful place to visit! If you have the chance, have a lunch at Ore... A great restaurant on the left side of the golden gates
It's absolutely amazing place to go, it's adorned with history and extremely beautiful. I would highly recommend it to anyone who's into historic art and building.
This place can be split into two sections
1. Palace
2. Garden
As they are popular in Paris there will be long queues. Advisable to pre book for both. One more tip check the opening time and be there early. Personal advice it needs palace to see in a day and garden another day as both are massive. In garden we can hire self driving golf cars for 34 per hour. It approximately takes around 2 hours to cover the entire garden. Walking can be a very good exercise.
Pay for a guided tour, you won't regret it. It's a travel through the France of absolutism, great and beautiful place
You spend more time at the line up than the actual palace.
Best place to visit and best place to buy Effiel tower show pieces.
Great gardens. No really nice. The palace.was closed on the day we visited butvrhe gardens were awesome
The Palace of Versailles is difficult to grasp when considered against the deep poverty experienced by ordinary people who lived around it. When viewed in this light, one can easily understand how the French Revolution came to be, and why it was so vicious.
The palace is very impressive. Make sure to leave enough time to get through as it can be very crowded on the weekend. Many, many tours come through, so be prepared to wait. You'll have to wait to enter, the palace, even if you purchased tickets in advance.
Consider taking time to see the gardens first. As great as the palace is, the gardens and fountains are even more amazing. In particular, head out to Marie Antoinette's house to see the 3/4 size English farm house. Imagine the excess, the understand why the people of France thought she could loose a few inches.
Palace of Versailles is the place that French kings use to live and rule.
All the other museums or palace's we have seen in paris was mostly a collection of others history, but in the Versailles Palace you may find the history and life Style of the french rulers.
To get here we took the train from Paris directly. The ticket was 3.49 EUR per person.
At our arrival there was a LONG line of people waiting for the security check to enter the palace. We waited about 2 hours(there is no options for parents or other priorities, also after traveling 1 hour in you can not change your mind easily.
The palace was packed by people, and we couldn't take kids strollers in.
It took about 45minutes to walk all the building, then we went out to see the gardens. You may take a car to circle around the gardens.
We had to stand for 3 hours in line in the sun to be able to get inside. By the time we entered we were tired and frustrated, we only saw 1 part of the palace though we paid 22 / person to see it all.
The house of the king of that say is very beautiful very nice a lot of people go there it's absolutely nice and beautiful you can keep it dry to go there it's nice and beautiful
Pictures don't do any justice... can easily spend a day here. SKIP THE LINE by taking a guided tour!
OMG.. Enormous Palace and grounds, spend the day and take lunch. Everything is stunning, food not to expensive unless you use the seated restaurant. Forget the Lovre and come here
Long wait! Eat lunch at the restaurant to beat the line. Or go WHEN IT OPENS. Otherwise, expect 2+ hours even in rain or - 0 degrees. That s what happened to us
A 3 hour wait in the pouring rain with tickets bought on the internet, that promised skipping the waiting line. Never go there on a Monday or Tuesday. With Musee d'Orsay and Le Louvre closed those days everybody visits le palais de Versailles. A real disaster!
Always busy, Highly tourist oriented area. Maintenance making pond making nasty smell due to dead fish. Tuesday visit had a strike (greve) making us to return two days after. we enjoyed.
Very ornate inside & out and the gardens are amazing but not kept to as high a standard as others throughout Europe... Crowd control going through the Palace itself could have been a lot better, too...
We were not allowed to visit a big part of the Palat, not even the gardens...so that's a big minus. The rooms we seen were nice and the paintings on the ceilings were very beautiful.
The palace is so huge and is beautiful inside and in the gardens
Queued for 3 and half hours. Rained very heavily during the last 20 minutes. Drenched to the bone. Spent 45 minutes inside. Spent the whole time being pushed through the tiny part of the palace you are actually allowed to see. Luckily we were allowed in for free. Dissapointed by how much we were allowed to see.
Beautiful place even when the the fountains were off.
Staggeringly beautiful Palace with an incredible park/garden. No trip to Paris is complete without popping over to Versaille for a day.
Beautiful palace with lots of history. The size is overwhelming, but inside is surprisingly short tour and you can do it quite quickly if you just tour the palace.
The gardens are gorgeous, but not as fun to visit in the winter as the musical fountains show is off after October.
Favorite place was the mirror hall and the Royal bedrooms.
Audio guides was great bonus.
If you're in Paris you've got to go to Versailles. It's a beautiful palace and the gardens can't be missed.
Rich in history and art! Free entry for everyone below 18 and EU students(more than 6 months study) below 26.
Felt like a queen stralling around this magnificent place. Be prepared to walk, wear comfortable shoes and maybe sunscreen if going during the summer season. It was really hot for us. There is a nice coffee shop inside in case you want something to eat, it's not expensive at all. Bare in mind that the entrance to the gardens is free only a few days of the week.
I can't give if 5 stars as the whole pomp around the palace made me think it would be much grander. Had I not gone there with expectations, it might have been better.
The tour of the place is short and pretty basic, you are not planed to stop and admire anything, just to keep walking and get to the end. And that's even OK because most of the really good and quality stuff is already in the Louvre, and here are just some leftovers. My recommendation is to get the passport ticket (20e, instead of 18e for just the palace) and for those 2 additional euros you can go to Grand and Petit Trianon, which made my visit to Versailles a lot better overall.
Palace is nice, halls of mirrors is amazing
Garden is huge and worth walking around
Take a paid ride on a boat on the canal
I just love this place. From the moment you see the statue of Louis XIV on his horse you can feel the historical atmosphere from this old French royal palace.
Although visiting the royal apartments with audioguide should be possible in an hour, you can spend as much time in every room you like, taking in all the details and splendor. I'm not sure if the audioguide is included in the ticket price, but you can download the Versailles app with all it's available audiotours online.
On my last visit I went in winter and skipped most of the garden areas. I recommend doing these in spring or summer, the gardens really shine when everything is in bloom! Make sure to grab a map cause you can easily get lost at this vast area.
What I like about Versailles is that they keep updating their collection. Every time I visit, I discover new places that were previously unopened for the public. For some people it could be a shame to see certain areas in scaffolding, but it just shows how dedicated they are to restore the palace to its former glory. They keep trying to aquire as many original furniture as possible or at least make replica's from the original designs to slowly fill up every room again.
I would also recommend one of the guided tours, they give you a good insight in the more private life at Versailles and let's you visit areas not open to the regular public.
In short Versailles is a must do when you have the time on your trip in Paris.
It is just a short train ride away, you won't regret it!
Indeed something to visit. I've spent many pleasant hours returning to the vast gardens around it too.
Beautiful, but beware of the long queue to enter, specially in the sun. There is no way you can skip that line, so booking a ticket in advance won't help . Go prepared
This tourist stop is so much more than just a palace. You can feel the history here, it begins with the extensive grounds with classic French grounds keeping, teaming with the send of royalty even the hedges are artwork. Touring the out building s and grounds gives you some perspective on the complex relationships of the royal bloodline. The main parlance is amp most more than the mind can comprehend.
Couple travel tips:
There s a wonderful restaurant I upstairs in one wing, I suggest you make arrangements with your tour guide to lunch there after the tour, the food and ambiance are very good, you ll be well hungry from the tour and you can dine while still feeling the impression of the palace.
Very beautiful. Be sure to arrive extremely early to get ahead of the crowds. It gets very busy even in the off season. Tour busses bring hundreds of people at a time and it can be a bit of a mad house inside with people pushing to get through. If you keep that in mind ahead of your visit, you'll fare better.
One of the finest palace in the world. Worth a visit if you are nearby. Extremely heavily crowded 9n seasons. Please be aware of crowd.
an incredible historic place...made with the gold and silver stolen from America and Africa
Amazing, wonderful (words cannot describe the beauty of the state rooms) - just wish there weren't so many crowds (get there really early or late on if you can).
Interesting history that you don't learn of in England.
Having very good paintings and have shows living of King and their surrounding.
In my opinion the gardens are better than the palace. This is because the place was ransacked during the revolution and all the original furniture is gone. When going to the gardens, go when the fountains are on. It makes a difference. You should know that the line ups for the palace are insane. The only way to beat them is to get a timed entry. Museum or Paris pass will not do that. Since we has the pass, we went an hour before open.
We went on a hot Summer Sunday and I suggest you find a different time to visit than us. Starting with the two hour long queue at the start it continues inside around the overcrowded apartments. You simply cannot see the rooms, the art or anything. Desperately need a timed ticketing system to better manage the overcrowding. Also, a dangerous lack of consideration for guests, queuing is in a open courtyard in full glare of the sun. While we were waiting a person collapsed from
overheating. It s another queue to buy overpriced water from one of only a few cafes. Want to sit down to rest your legs, you can t go out the gardens and then visit the apartments, you have to do the shuffle around stifling hot overcrowding rooms first. Then good luck finding somewhere to sit.
It s hard not to worry that the people in charge of Versailles are only interested in money, not the preservation of the site and certainly not the comfort or safety of the visitors.
Amazing to see how things used to be several hundred years ago. Stunning palace art and sculptures and a history lesson that is priceless. If you want to splurge, rent the golf cart in the garden for a self guided audio tour (about 35 for an hour) and you can reach the farthest corners of the garden.
Huge palace, but don't go on weekends, the crowds will be overwhelming and as one fellow tourist noticed, the place got dusty. Also, on weekends there's an extra fee to visit the gardens as the fountains are turned on with synchronized musice. Purchase tickets ahead of time so you don't waste time waiting in line. And to save even more time going back to Paris, buy a ticket back to Paris as soon as you arrive at the Versailles train station.
Amazing place to visit. stunning architecture & the gardens are incredible.
Maybe try a week day as opposed to a saturday if you visit as it s very busy
It was a beautiful palace. We wanted to visit the palace but it was closing in 30 minutes so we opted to visit the gardens. It was worth the trip. We will have to visit the palace on another trip.
Really cool place. It really is a beautiful place, even in December when I was there - perhaps not as many flowering plants, but far less people which is nice. The map from the information center has a marking for Marie Antoinette's estate as if it is a house, but after 30 minutes of aimlessly walking around, all we found was the head groundskeeper's house, only to be told shortly thereafter by an employee that there is no house and that the map is pretty misleading. But that's only a minor thing. The artwork and architecture is amazing and the grounds are kept in great shape. Worth a visit, but bring your walking shoes - I racked up 25,000 steps during my visit!
The most beautiful palace and gardens I ever seen!!
