Beautiful palace. Neat tour inside the building. Gardens were cool but non of the fountains are on during the week. :(
The ticket price was 18 for the inside tour. A bit pricey considering how little of the palace you are able to explore. It does include an individual handheld audio tour which improved the experience.
Walking the gardens was free and open to the public. If you are looking to save money and still experience Versailles, you could easily satisfy this experience by walking the grounds.
I traveled from downtown Paris using the local Metro/subway and RER lines. It took about an hour and cost about 5 each way. The train station in Versailles is about a 10 minute walk from the ticket office.
