Oslo's oldest restaurant. Traditional Norwegian food. The kitchen did a great job when we were there with a foreign guest. However, service personnel need to sharpen.

Traditional Norwegian lunch place with great service!
Nordic traditional food prepared with care and quality ingredients
A simple but careful and balanced menu. It has the possibility of a buffet for food.
The site is pleasant and comfortable and with very good views of the square. A very cool terrace to go in summer.
Prices are somewhat high, but worth it.
amazing experience
the best fish I've never tried !
Very cozy restaurant with very good Norwegian food. We have eaten very well and excellent treatment. In addition to a good price for what is Norway.
Good food. Nice operation. Charming place. Magic in the walls. Must be experienced
I chose Cafe Engebret because I wanted to have a more traditional Norwegian meal than the gastronomic Michelin-starred set menu places that abound in Oslo now. The atmosphere inside is reminiscent of entering an old German restaurant, with dark wood and white tablecloths in a homey style. We were greeted very warmly upon entering and led to a table that the hostess explained was the favorite of the first female prime minister. (Nice to explain that bit of history.)
One of Oslo's oldest, historic restaurants, serves traditional cooking, can rent 2-3 halls for events. Beautiful.
Good. Typical Norwegian food. Excellent service. Cozy.
Very good food despite high prices in relation to portion sizes. Noticed a few times a heavy hand in the salt, oddly enough.
Beautiful restaurant. Felt so special to be in the oldest functioning establishment in Oslo. What a treat. The food was delicious. I had the game tartar and the lamb. The service was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. Definitely a great place for special occasions. I will definitely be back.
Best restaurant in Oslo for those who like traditional Norwegian food!
Incredibly cozy restaurant with lots of history.
Charming and great completely beyond anything else.
Nice place .... poor organization of food .... we were a party of around 30 people .... and it was not very lucky that some of the food was cold when we had to eat ..... the food tasted good ......
Maybe there was just too little staff .
4 out of 5 chose Boknafisken, and we can recommend it!
Was at Christmas table with friends. Great food and great premises. Good service. Only three stars due to too many people, a lot of noise. The food could have been better and finer prepared, at least for that price. Got some assembly line feeling ...
We weren't too sure about the menu but I ordered the salmon and it was wonderful! I just scraped off the fish eggs as I am not a fan. Very nice Cafe but we waited a long time for our bill and even had to flag down our waitress to get it.
Great food, but expensive. Can't go there often ...
Restaurant, very British dining room, pub style, irreproachable and very generous cuisine. The service is top notch, class.
Very good food, friendly staff, comfortably furnished, reservations strongly recommended, according to own data Oslo's oldest restaurant.
Was a nice restaurant but be careful about choosing the specials since they are overpriced and you do not see it until you get the bill.
Just over good lutefish this year. Double portion, back next year
Traditional Christmas meal. Good service in one of the oldest restaurant in Oslo
We were pleasantly surprised with this place. Great service, great atmosphere, great food. Best meal we have had in Oslo. Everything we had was a special and extremely well cooked. We had reindeer carpaccio, seared salmon, whale, and then the dessert special (Norwegian strawberries with vanilla bean ice cream). Highly recommend. It is well worth the price.
Oslo's oldest restaurant, great food, great service and nice atmosphere
Good, old school christmas food galore, gentle people and premises with historical sights in just the right amount.
Fantastic good food in a very pleasant environment. Good portions and heavenly sauce, delicious to skip the thimble portion you get in many other places. We should have come here a long time ago, but we will be back soon
The best restaurant in Oslo for traditional Norwegian dishes.
Expensive but you get what you pay for. Food quality and service is fantastic.
Excellent service and vintage location.
Food is an expression of Norwegian cuisine.
Highly recommended.
Not bad if looking for a traditional restaurant in Norway. I would not go back as there are too many interesting new Nordic restaurants. More popular with a slightly older crowd.
We ordered king crab and cured reindeer for starters and they tastes really good. Veal and reindeer for main. I have has reindeer in Sweden Iceland and Norway, only in Norway reindeer tastes a bit gamey. But still pretty good food and we are satisfied.
Beautiful farmhouse with a gargantuan menu with Sicilian music played for 2 men in period dress
Very very good and a superb and pleasant view for the digestive walk in a beautiful well maintained garden
Great Christmas atmosphere with one of the best leekefiske I have tasted
Nice interior but extremely overpriced. It is a place for people who are into old fashioned and traditional decor.
Good ox tartar sandwich. Enjoyed outside seating under the electric awning on a beautiful sunny day in Oslo
Food and services are so good! Will definitely visit again when I am back next time!
A little early to close the alcohol serving at 2245 !!
Nice atmosphere. A little high noise level in the aquavit chamber. Expensive stick meat that was not amazing.
The oldest restaurant in Oslo, with traditional Norwegian food. A must visit if you're in Oslo.
Fantastic food and exeptional atmosphere in these historic restaurant. A must to visit when visiting Oslo.
Very satisfied! The oldest restaurant in Oslo, located directly at a fountain. The staff was friendly.
A pleasant setting, a friendly atmosphere and delicious dishes.
if you want a unique experience, this is the place to be
Incredible cozy and authentic. Great service and great food. Old fashion, a place with tons of history. Love it!
Expensive prices compared to dishes. Bad and tight air inside and a lot of food smell from the kitchen.
Classic good restaurant with a long history in the walls.
Fantastic locations seem to be in another era, exquisite and obviously candlelit dinner. Sn prices adapted to Oslo's very high standards. We paid all in about 140 in 2 people, ordering 2 appetizers (I recommend the whale tasting) and 2 seconds of salmon fillet with potatoes and 2 glasses of white wine each .. The coffee was offered to us! Very professional, kind and very caring staff.I highly recommend it.
European book of walking around (Makiko Namiki) 1996/7/20
A historic shop with restaurants, cafes and beautiful banquet rooms of various sizes. During the day, you can enjoy a sandwich buffet in a relaxed shop. We recommend the Norwegian specialty Lutefisk, which uses dried sardines.
Classic, you do not eat badly, at a price for where you are.
Delicious leekefisk served in a beautiful historic building
Very good food and nice local. Little minus the beer they brew was not very good.
It managed to be the most fabulous cafe / restaurant I visited in Oslo, a city I visit every 2 years but I never lived!
Good food but a little strange dining ... the main course came a long time before the accessories and when the potatoes finally arrived they lay in a serving bowl of 4 pieces ...
Lovely and good food. We were allowed to walk around looking at the great premises.
