Airport is very nice. It's easy to reach with subway or Maglev (50 RNB) as long your departing flight is between 9 AM to 11 PM since both run approximately 6 AM to 9 PM. Outside of those of those times metered taxi cost approx. 180 RNB from downtown Shanghai.
Checking for flights is disorganized, people forming multiple lines and cutting in as is Chinese tradition. Food at the aiport is awfully overpriced (60+ RNB) for most items.
Coming on twenty years, the big and well-equipped Pudong needs to get even bigger after a record year for passengers served (35.36 million) and even with the installation of 67 self-service immigration clearance kiosks. Queue for immigration is still bearable, but security clearance is tedious. Time also for some sprucing up.
Very quiet and big, not big huge! Some people can't understand you but its ok everthing was fine.

In China, Google and YouTube are blocked and there is really nothing to do when waiting for a transfer. I can not check my gmail, I can not watch videos, and the scenery outside the window is full of dust.
Shanghai International Airport is clean and well organized and organized.

Modern, big and clean. The routes are limited to the most necessary. The shops are good to look at. The waiting time is shortened by having a good view of the apron and a runway.

The facilities are nice but the room is spacious and the Asiana counter is far from the departure gate. There are a lot of people. When you enter the country, please take a five-fingerprint.

One of the huge international airport in China. Also one of the busiest airport so many flight can be easily delayed. The airport is clean, bright, well maintained and they even provide free WiFi. There are few restaurants before checking in but not much after. However there are many Duty free shops inside. There is 2 terminal is this airport.
The biggest disadvantage is that when the flight was delayed, the language I spoke to the passengers was English, Mandarin, but no Cantonese. The flight was to Hong Kong. There are still some people in Hong Kong who don t know Mandarin. There is a lady. Ask me, what about the radio?
However, there is a Japanese version of the broadcast of the flight to Osaka!

The equipment is novel and the communication is convenient. The price of the in-house restaurant is too high, the smoking room in the waiting area is too small (such as near the boarding gate D71) or there are too many smokers. Some people drive the door of the smoking room nearby to smoke, affecting the passing passengers nearby. .

Quite a big and decent airport. Can get confusing sometimes due to size but generally well organized. Has shops to buy and restaurant to eat with also liquor and chocolates available. Spa's to relax, rejuvenate oneself in addition to enjoying some time at the airport. Was under construction when I went, hopefully would have become more operational by now

This is one of the massive airports that I have seen till now. The taxiing part took twenty minutes, phew!! I was just transiting through this airport and had a very good experience. Immigration was super smooth, thanks to the authorities. Free WiFi is available for foreigners, password generated at kiosks.
The people are always so helpful in this airport. They really have a huge volume to get through at any given time and they keep pushing to make it happen. China is definitely on top of crowd management and this airport is no exception.

When I went to Europe, I started from Pudong Airport.
Transit was quick and efficient. Staff friendly reminds you of time zone change. Some shops had already closed in late evening. Free WiFi is nearly non existent. It took me 1h to get a Connection to the free WiFi, where e.g Google or Facebook are blocked in.
I can understand the poor attitude of the security staff. The staff of the duty-free shops are as bad as the money they owe them. In response ..., the hardware scores high, and the software owes points.

Shanghai Pudong International Airport is approx one hour drive distance from main city and is also connected via Maglev high speed train which reduces the same transit time to ten minutes. It is a large modern international and domestic airport with all the necessary amenities.

I used FIRST CLASS LOUNGE (NO.66) before leaving Japan. There were cup ramen, banana, canned beer, soft drink, coffee and some snacks. It is okay.
Flew eastern china, flight itself was great but shanghai airport is one of the worst i have ever transit through .. Biggest que's ever anywhere u go ,over 10 flights landed and we had 2 people handling transfer and security.

The airport is wide and beautiful. The premises broadcasting and information provision system closely resembles Japanese airports rather than the West and I thought that it was due to the hands of Japanese companies. The staff are far more polite than Vietnam of the same Communist sphere, and can speak Japanese, Korean and English of catacombs. It is amazing! I bet he is an elite. There are many female airport police officers, but is everyone pretty, so is the appearance adopted standard? I thought.

Inefficient place! We have to wait three hours before entering the country, and the broken broadcaster makes annoying noise. No Wifi can be used unless you have a local phone number, which is the biggest inconvenience for a visitor. If you consider turning around here and entering the country. Please do not hesitate to go sightseeing! Shanghai Pudong Airport is definitely a very bad experience.

Left Shanghai, there was what they called a Typhoon, which was just really some rain. Well, apparently the entire airport runway activity was shut down. So, if the day you re leaving plans for some rain, moderately just forget it. You ll have maybe a 50/50 chance of a 90 minute delay.
Anyways, the terminals are better and more in the bright side, large and extensive, a bigger welcoming than Some other airports such as Newark Liberty International Airport Or LaGuardia, I guess I can t really make comparisons because of a different country, but Pudong Airport is definitely on the Brighter Side Of Airports. Nice, clean. The customs experience was average. Not the worst, not the best, but better than most US entries. Watch out for the huksters once you get out of customs. Some have little badges that to be airport staff (helpfully in English) who will try to steer you to one of their rip off stations. Get some cash at the ATM, get in line for the taxi, ignore any advice to the contrary. Just make sure you have a "taxi card" from your hotel. Most hotels have these available to print out on line before you leave home. You just show these to the taxi starter, she/he will direct you to a cab, and off you go. Make sure the driver starts the meter or you can get severely ripped off. At a reputable hotel, when you arrive, the bell staff won't let the driver leave until all of your bags are out of the cab and you have your receipt.
The immigration line for foreigners is long, when you enter the country you are given fingerprint certification over and over, baggage inspection is abnormally strict at departure.

Apart from being busy like other international airport of the developed countries , Shanghai Pudong s policies are irritating , demanding and much time wasting. It s not like other airport where they let you go through , transitors need to go to arrival officials , claimed the baggages , get through the customs and check in once again.
Which most of the airlines won t allow you to early check-in , people who have long transit (8-16 hrs.) can either choose to roaming around the check-in counters or pay for a stay at the hotels(which definitely does not worth you time and money).
The official polices at departure gate is very slow , will take you about an hour to pass the polices and x-ray stuffs.
They should have let the transitors through the gates directly , as reprocessing definitely will raise the exposure of risking people to overstayed and the security control will be more difficult.
Police officers and other staffs officials should have alleviate the traffic inside the airport to ease the accessibility and shortening commutes. NOT RETARDING!!!!!!!!!!

The airport is clean, the A/C system works well during winter, but the wifi network is a tragic, you will have a taste of "Great Fire Wall of China" here, there's noway to use Google, Youtube, Facebook, Gmail... without VPN. More than that, there's only 1 free wifi for use in the international area, and as a traveler, you cant stay there long, one officer will escort you out. Out of international area, there're only paid wifi network, which is a huge let down.
This airport is really a rundown look at the international arrival. The carpet was all worn out , I was really surprised how they did not maintain the place like they should. The taxi service was bad at this airport, you get on the taxi, if you don't go somewhere that is a long distance, the drive will tell you that he does not go to that part of the city and tell you take another taxi that goes there!!!! Not good.

On arrival, the queues for customs were very long and took a long time to clear. Security queues were also long but we cleared them quickly. To enter the airport, you must clear security at the entrance even though you re not flying. Customs and security queues were long but many booths were open so it wasn t too bad. The view of the tarmac and runway from the airside is very nice, and good for photos.

We transferred through Shanghai from Kolkata to get to Vancouver! The airport is very clean. The bathrooms are great!

It's always a little confusing at a foreign airport but at Shanghai, it was fairly easy.
No public WiFi unless you have a Chinese phone number. My phone is WiFi only, I cannot request a password to use their WiFi since I have no cellular network. It made me stranded! WiFi should be open and free here. But at least it is English compatible, that is great.
