Very cool and huge airport. There are many types of shops and many restaurants, although most of them already have Chinese food ...
We did not have any kind of problem in the, incredible security, as in the whole country very clear everything. A little messy and slow all the subject of the visa, photos, footprints and other things that force you to do to let you pass. Everything in English thanks to God, and to go to the center of the city we took the maglev. Highly recommended!

This airport is not very efficient and very few people speak English. EVERYTHING IS VERY FAR WAY. REQUEST ASSISTANTS IF YOU NEED IT!
But wait theres more. I exchanged 1000 yen here ($10) and they gave me back 6 Yuan... (about 75 cents ) I needed to buy a meal since I m diabetic and they ripped me off. I went to two people and they all confirmed this is correct! Scam artists. Don t exchange your money here!
The fee (if it s correct) is ridiculous.
WiFi and data is awful
They sensor facebook.
And the smog is just as bad as people say it is. With this being my experience to China as I was just switching flights from japan to the USA I will never come here. I m sure the culture and people are great but their Goverment and procedures are awful! Even the toilets (though compared to japan) are awful! Will avoid this place like the plague next time.

If you take a linear ride in about 8 minutes you can go to Longyang Road subway line 2. Taxi may be vacant as well

Very disappointing experience. Long and slow security/immigration checkpoints, they took my portable phone charger because the barcode was scratched and tried to take away my eye makeup remover saying it was nail polish remover. So stupid. Limited offerings once inside the terminal and poor ventilation made most of the terminal smell like cigarettes. All of the lounges I saw were not nice. Far inferior to Japan's or Europe's, or even Latin America/USA.

Limited seating at gates, and our plane was on the middle of the tarmac so we had to load up in a shuttle bus the reach it, then carry our baggage up the stairs into the plane.

Our flight was delayed even though the plane was there, I think shuttling everyone back and forth in such a disorganized way was the reason why.

I had no choice but to fly through this airport but if anyone has the option to layover elsewhere or avoid it completely, I recommend doing so. If you can't, give yourself plenty of extra time to get through security, and eat ahead of time because there were no good options or lounges at the airport. Gave it 2 stars instead of 1 because customs upon arrival was decent, not good, but decent.

When having a connecting flight, depending the airline, passengers need to collect their luggage and visit a check-in counter. After that, they are required to pass through security inspection. The whole procedure is really time - consuming and stressful, because it might result in the loss of the connecting flight. Totally disappointing experience.

**Give yourself plenty of time** Before you get to the departure lounge your : bags will be scanned 3 or 4 times. body will be scanned and patted down twice. Ticket and passport will be checked 3 times including customs. You will have to remove any electronic item with batteries from your case. Power packs are particularly scrutinized.

A new and large international airport, but very few tax-free international brands have settled in ...
Maybe it was because some people at the Beijing airport protested with flammable materials before self-immolation.
Baggage is checked frequently when entering and leaving the airport. The efficiency of airport service staff is very poor, which often leads to long queues ...
The empty bridge is not enough, and often we need to take a shuttle bus to get on the plane ... On a rainy day, the radio will call the passengers to get on the bus ...
Although it is an international airport with many flights, it feels bad ...

An international airport outside of Shanghai. There is a rainbow bridge airport in the town, and speaking of Tokyo, Haneda and Narita are related. Terminal 1 is designed by Paul Andrew, the same as Charles de Gaulle Airport.

The following four access from the airport to the city center
-Taxi around 200 yuan
Bus about 20 yuan
Subway 7 yuan
Linear + subway or taxi 40 yuan +

Never ride on a white geek who calls you. From the taxi stand, pick a safe taxi color and get on it (NG for maroon and amber).
The subway takes a lot of time, so I do not recommend it.

When you leave Japan, you may get quite crowded, so get to the airport early. There are a lot of delays as the planes are crowded.

Horrible experience, couldn't find the virgin check in desk, the sign is tiny and no one was willing to help. Everyone kept telling me to go to the information desk which was closed, no one spoke English. The Wi-Fi was Horrible, it didn't work.

My Fiancee travelled through this airport a month later and also had a horrible experience, we would never stop over at this airport again.

Definitely one of the worst airports I have ever been to and I travel a lot. Very limited shops inside of the airport so difficult to find food and other stuff you may need. Poor variety of restaurants.. Waiting times are atrocious with not very nice staff. It s a huge airport so I don t see the problem in adding more shops and maybe a children s playing area like the majority of other airports have. Toilets are dirty and look like they haven t been cleaned in ages. Avoid travelling through this airport. It s a pain.

I don't want to attach even one star.

I don't want to attach even one star.
It's so late that I have had an in-flight meal before the plane moved.
McDonald's did not speak English and suffered 10 days per meal.

Pudong airport though is large and modern and its infrastructure is second to none and it is credit to china's rapid development process that such facilities stands tall.

I wish I could say the same for the management and the service side of it. This side slides right down to the bottom of the scale. And worst is I don't see why this could be the case or for any excuses when you have such a fine infrastructure.

I was a transit passenger in Pudong airport Shanghai flying Air Chana from tokyo . connecting flight was so to Sydney in 2 hours time in Air china again. I had to make my way though the the corridors guessing all the way(lack of signs and direction) eventually arriving at the immigration gate. I was then forced to ask one aloof security personal with repeat gesture of me being a transit passenger i was pointed towards the far end which was still an immigration gate. it turns out I still needed to get a visa to get out and recheck in a like a fresh arrival at the airport. I still would not have minded had the process being routine and swift , instead i was looking at the immigration office for a good 20 minutes while she fundled my passport asked for my ticket , looked at me couple of time , stamped the passports twice and god knows what else was the process that they had had to go through, while I only wanted to catch the connecting flight and i don't even need their visa and bureaucracy to start with. After this I eventually figured my way out and out to the departure level to recheck in, than the Air china man at the counter check in ,says where is my luggage, I told him i am a transit passenger flying the same airline and going to Sydney, He said i needed to go back and get my luggage! and i have 40 minuted to do so. Needless to say this caused stress , as the gentleman had limited english and that was all the help he could give. Made my way to the information desk , hoping she could help me out after seeing my itinerary but her english was so rudimentary and help empathy was even less. Ran down to the security , tried expelling my situation in gesture and slow english. this time it wasn't hard for them to understand me they let me go through in after security scan and check, I am positive this episode happens day in day out at their end and they know exactly why i want to go back in. Any way got my suitcase and did the re- check in and went through the appalling immigration process again, This time lining up with endless line of Chinese tourist leaving for overseas and took so long to pass through. Hurried our way to the gate and we had about 30 minutes left we quickly got through the gate and boarded a bus that was to take us to the plane. But this was not the last of Pudong transition, we stood in the bus for what seemed like over 30 minutes crammed full of people very cold out on the tarmac area, while the airport staff waited for the final people to board, and we were not even the first people to board the bus. Couldn't they get multiple bus and get the bus moving once its full or semi full and get another bus for the other batch. I felt like a cattle waiting to be shipped .

I was only too glad i got away from this airport in one piece with my luggage intact.

The government bureaucracy who is running this airport has no idea of certain international standard while the airport infrastructure says otherwise. Is it so hard? experiencing the Tokyo Narita experience to Pudong there is no comparison.

I hope Pudong trains its staff to certain international standards, that goes for the immigration standards as well, This will reflect well on China; and its rich heritage.

I have given one star due to its infrastructure and the facilities I never got to use due to the above adventure.

A totalitarian cesspool. All Google services are blocked, along with innumerable other websites. The wifi is patchy and slow. The shops are limited and sell cheap rubbish. Airport staff are confused and anxious. I think it is disgusting that free people are forced to transit through this uncivilised, grubby disgrace to humanity.

MODERN INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT IN SHANGHAI BUT LACKING SERVICES
Pudong Airport has two terminals - Terminal 1 (older) and terminal 2 (newer).
Flights to Australasia with China Eastern and Qantas depart from terminal 1.
The ground side of the terminal is very basic with little to offer travellers other than a Starbucks takeaway.
You will go through preliminary security screening on entry to the terminal building.
Some seats available but fill quickly.
Baggage check in is not available until 3 hours prior to your flight's departure (although the display boards will annoyingly advise earlier check in.. only to leave you fuming at the closed counter !!).
Once you've checked in, you will proceed to immigration and security clearance. Queues can be long (although express lanes for business class) so be prepared for a bit of a wait in busy times.
Once airside you have access to some duty free shops and "pay to access" lounges. Travellers with frequent flyer lounge privileges will gain access to airline affiliate lounges (China Eastern for Qantas / one world members).
The lounge is fairly rudimentary with limited food offerings.. but does have comfortable seating and showers

It is a big airport. Shops There are many in the vicinity of the boarding gate after passport control. The duty free shop was very crowded. If a simple meal, is a good buy at the Dunkin 'Donuts or Family Mart.

It is recommended that business travelers have to do automatic customs clearance, both Shanghai Pudong and Beijing Capital Airport are applicable! Speed up the entry and exit of customs. The taxi driver at the airport likes to detour on the elevated road in the city. It is recommended to open the navigation!

This was the worst airport ever!!! The workers were not friendly, (I had to wait 1hour to talk to a employer who speaks English) the prices of food & beverages were 20 times more expensive, soooo many Chinese were cutting lines....

Shanghai pudong international airport is very spacious and has air connectivity to many parts of the world. The facilities, shops, restaurants are good. Toilets are cleanly maintained.
Some of the gates in lower level like gate 209, 210 etc are crammed and little uncomfortable for passangers.

Watch out for swindlers. When they tell you taxi, they don t mean taxi, don t believe them. Also, there s so much security, it makes TSA seem not annoying. The ATMs also don t work, so make sure to take Chinese money or an international credit card that works in China (my credit card works in Japan, Brazil, Mexico, and Canada but not in China).

Nice open airport with plenty of shopping while you wait for your flight. Only issue I had was my flight to Detroit was delayed twice and was stuck on the runway for waiting for clearance for four hours, ugh!!

This airport is, so called, one of the main entrances of China. But we always bother imigration that let us wait for too long time. We would like to improve it for the tourists. It is easy for us to lose my own way to go, since this airport is very large.
When these problems will be solved, we can enjoy
Shaghai tour. I went to Zianziagang for business by a car from here.

Racial profiling at the airport:

Racial profiling at the airport:

I was on a business visit for only a few days when I had this bizarre experience. After immigration was completed with no issues, my colleague and I were at customs declaration.

We noticed something really strange that was happening, people who were Caucasian and Asian were allowed to pass through with no checks and others who were brown and black had to go through extra checks. I saw a black person with this indignant look at was happening, and then a south Asian family having had to open all their boxes that contained just food. I could relate to their annoyance. A very nice welcome to the country indeed.

For all your economic strength and influence - the Chinese government; how about having some class and refrain from trampling on human equality. We re just visitors and experiences like this will shed poorly on your so called developing country. Also, I m not sure whether this happens every other day; maybe you have Racist Sundays or something.

Of course I passed the checks and exited the airport, outraged at having the sort of experience you just read about or watch randomly on the internet.

One star for the kiosk where you must scan your biometrics I guess....

Worse airport I have ever seen!!!

Worse airport I have ever seen!!!
Their Staff is not educated, have no manners at ALL and treat without respect toward other human being. Here i will concentrate to point put what other commenters forgot to say, and not to repeat the same as them... Find attached Pictures.... But WAIT, I have LOT more to say:::

- It is terribly DIRTY!!! The cleaning people were looking inside trash and taking stuff other trow away inside and put it on a bag of them underneath their cleaning cart!!! Let me guess i ll take it home... like a guy sitting not far from me, who trow some broken item, and a cleaning man checked it, look ohh is ok and put it in his cart...Furthermore, this cleaning people are actually not cleaning, but walking around. They have a cleaning cart for cleaning, they literally see the dirt everywhere and they ignore it. When they came closer to me, i analyze their way of cleaning. They left the trashes behind, they see the dirt and do nothing about it... they have a map and water to clean dirty spot and melted ice cream, but guess what they look at it and left it there... and this happens everywhere around the airport... Dirty Dirt and more Dirt!! Bathrooms i don t want to speak what many people already said!! ... ant to speak about was other Messed to say...

Dirty can be seen from far!!!! Have a look underneath the waiting area seats. Trash everywhere, and you don t need to bend down to see it. By standing is enough!!! Pictures ATTACHED!!!!

Moreover, i don t get how I can read from this LOCAL GUIDE which obviously are fake and or paid/controlled accounts to write positive reviews about this airport... I am also LOCAL GUIDE for google, but i wont come with LIES::: they are really BLIND. - How they even dare to say; it is well Maintained - Please, give me a brake: go back to Universities and study either engineering or architectural, then you will learn the meaning of Building Maintenance!! -
I am a professional Architect, and not as a traveller, who works on Building Maintenance - I can securely say::: Pundong International airport is POORLYYYYYY maintained!!!. - but Thanks for making me Laugh.
**** To add on the Topic, explain me:::
How can an INTERNATIONAL airport be well maintained when has almost all seats broken, these is not two or tree, mostly 90% of their SEATS ARE BROKEN and with THOUSAND HOLES!!! - Looks like those old style seats in old movie inside old hospital + BROKEN!

Make it a bigger airport?! Another DUMB IDEA... Go ahead make it bigger. Dear traveller be ready to be welcome to big place full with dirty and trash everywhere. Be aware their staff STEAL and have NO EDUCATION!!!

Security check took time.

Security check took time.
If you arrive after a meeting, you should calculate at least 30 minutes as a security check time.
There is an extreme difference in the response of the staff, and they talk quite intimidatingly, but there is a tendency to be awaited, emotional, but there are Japanese gentlemen and ladies, passing smoothly We recommend that you do.
When I arrived, I was checking the next route and talking with a taxi, a taxi broker and a staff member at the facility asked me what I did.
If you visit the linear train station, it will be taught properly and it will take 20 minutes to the platform. It is said that there is a taxi there, and you will be cut off the prepaid ticket and you will be charged more than usual, so be careful.

My wife and I flew through here in March/April 2016, so please forgive the late review. Unless things have drastically changed, I would recommend another airport for your transit, unless Shanghai is your destination. To be fair, I've heard good things about the actual city of Shanghai. Nevertheless, the airport itself is big and cold. Our first interaction with an airport employee upon departing our plane after a 13-hour flight from Chicago was not a good one. The young man kept telling us to "just go!" because we apparently we not moving fast enough. Our next interaction with employees occurred at the transit counter...and I can't say they were much friendlier either. During a few instances employees were shouting, apparently at each other...or at us. Not sure, though :( Either way, it was a bit unsettling. On our return trip a few weeks later the employees seemed even more robotic, mean and unhelpful. Granted, this may have been more of the general atmosphere of the place giving me that impression, but either way, I wanted to get out of there quickly. Sadly, our flight was delayed, and I was more than a bit distressed. No way was I going to spend an evening in that place! Thankfully, our flight was not canceled. However, I do wonder why they chose to have us board via the ugly, cramped gate downstairs. This was a huge inter-continental flight, and we got standing-room only in a room that resembled a DMV...complete with the drab walls and harsh florescent lighting. Sorry, PVG, but next time it will be Seoul, or Tokyo, or Taiwan, or Hong Kong for our stopover to the Philippines.
