The waiting time for both departure and arrival is long. You should arrive at the airport with plenty of time.
There was a word of mouth regarding the mobile battery confiscation, but in my case there was no problem, and I was not called during baggage inspection. It is the same at airports originating in Japan that mobile batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage instead of checked baggage.
Looks good, but the inside is shit. Immigration is extremely long and free WIFI requires a phone number. The internet is regulated. However, for some reason, only LINE could be used at the airport. The mobile battery will be confiscated. Nothing good. As expected, the Chinese Communist Party

Worst airport. Such a long line up and they just open a few immigration desk. I lost next flight through shanghai. Do not buy flight ticket through shanghai airport. All staff just work without kindness. No one try to help me. They just let me pay more. No recommended.
Why people who transfer have to see immigration and pick up luggage to transfer and check in luggage again within 2 hours. It is the trap to pay money i believe.
A large airport with a bunch of people, I personally ran quickly around and didn t see anything supernatural. Overall pretty. Customs generally passed in 5 minutes, which pleasantly surprised the people with such a volume. He took the luggage and ran on his own business. The coolest thing is that there is a train on magnetic rails or a magnetic pad. I rode in it at a speed of 431 kilometers per hour. I advise everyone to visit, sooooo cool!
Good facilities, often fast enough security checkups and still secure. Supreme food choice for great price. Plenty of sit space. Maybe a bit noisy sometimes but that totally depends what time of day you are here... This is my 6th time here and it's improving everytime

WiFi turns off for 5 minutes every 5 minutes for some reason. The staff are not friendly, the whole building isn't very admirable and the toilets are rather dirty. It's a big airport, and that's about it. I'm quite disappointed as I expected much better from Shanghai.
Modern and clean but all the queue times were unnecessarily long.
More than 50% of my flights from Shanghai in the last 4 years were delayed. Airport is relatively clean, but extremely dull - there are barely any stores or half-decent restaurants.
Very modern, very huge, very good airport with two terminals. Very good immigration service, very warm nature people, it s just simply superb massive project, administration is excellent as well, better than Hong Kong international airport.
So bad. They don't offer baggage transfer, so if you're using Shanghai as an international transfer airport, you physically have to go get your bags at the carousel, exit, check your bags in again, then walk back in through security. Not smart. None of the water fountains worked when I was there either. To force you to buy water I guess since it was hot. Nasty trick. Very few places to eat as well, and literally no bar, apart from the expensive champagne bar which is right in front of security.
Free water ( hot, cold, warm) and cups are provided
Toilets are reasonably clean
Some restaurants provide meal with reasonable price

I was trying to buy some commercial packaged Chinese dessert and biscuits before boarding, all shops over price these products. You will end up spending 3 times of the normal supermarket price. This airport shops are monopolized, a big problem in many airports in China.
The security check on entry and departure every time is a tremendous person, and I wait very much.
In particular, security checks for departures from China take about an hour, so if you do not go early you will not be able to use the lounge, but you will not be able to board in time.
Very large airport, although you need to follow the overhead signs closely. They are in both English and Chinese. Many of the airport staff doesn't speak much English or very minimal. Luckily I had an electronic dictionary which I can type words in English and can translate into Chinese which helps, especially when asking for directions. Entering China is easy and quick through immigration but exiting China takes far longer. It took me almost 2 hours with traffic to get to the airport from downtown Shanghai and an additional 2-2.5 hours to check in, clear security, customs, immigration and to my gate. I only had 25 mins left to spare for my flight so I wasn't able to grab anything to eat prior to boarding. It's suggested to check in at least 3 hours prior to departure but I usually recommend getting there at least 4 hours to give yourself time to complete your formalities.

Anyway it is hard to move because it is wide. The flow line of how to move is also hard to understand. Because of the large number of customers, we wait messed up in any procedure. The belongings examination was also stern from Beijing, Dalian, Changchun. Although it was transit two hours later, I told the staff of the airport that there was not time and made it convenient, I finally got ridiculed by dashing inside the airport.
The check in station queues have multiple entrances and are not clearly marked making finding one's way unclear, and there are no staff there to assist those unfamiliar with the Shanghai Pudong Airport which queue entry is the correct one to use. Passenger and flight safety are always important, and Pudong's security check point policies are exacting and one of the most extreme I've experienced, down to verifying the maximum WHr energy storage of each battery pack, so consider bringing along some documentation calling out the WHr rating, or labeling the battery packs with the rating number as this may save you time in the security screening should you have one or more battery packs.
Among China's airport is the most clean and I think it is a good airport facilities. The size is at the Incheon International Airport level, but the overall operation level including the procedure procedure seems to be unable to keep up with the scale. Duty-free shops are also not very varied. Two passenger terminals are located on both sides. When you enter the airport, the surrounding landscape is unusually decorated with an artificial pond rather than a garden, so it is nice to feel cool and cool. Korean Air can check in at the first office, and Asiana Airlines can check in at the second office.

One of the worst airport ever. Unfriendly staff, no WiFi. It is as in a jail : no smiles, no indications, lost baggages... China Eastern is the worst company I have ever used. They kept my bag for a security check in. 1 month later, no newq about my bag while I came back from my vacation. Never do this mistake, never choose Shanghai Airport or China Eastern if you do not want to become crazy.
About an hour drive from Shanghai downton area during off peak hours and the international check in counter open only 3 hours in advance for check in. You have to report well in advance for 4 hours to the airport so that you can do check in and complete the immigration and security and reach the big terminals for boarding. Majority of Chinese speak haste English and you can get only half of information.
Overall Shanghai is one of the best city in the world interms of growing as well as population.
Well maintained and Good transportation interms of bus,taxi and metro and Bullet train.
Only thing some drivers tend to overcharge tourist during your city roaming and you have to little bit careful for the same.
Very bad airport no English staff they're so rude no help even wifi hard to connected I promise I'll not transit by shanghai airport anymore everyone should avoid it if u can.
Was modern maybe 20 years ago. Cold and uncomfortable, kind of communist style. Not so many good restaurants and shops, no comfy or special seating. No good connection to Hongqiao hub (either painful crowded subway ride or cab through congested traffic).
Be careful if you have a mobile battery!
When I went to Taiwan, it was fine to leave it in my carry-on baggage, but here the manufacturer and capacity are checked at the time of baggage inspection.
The mobile battery that I took was picked up for the reason that the characters were flared and could not be confirmed. Please check before you travel!
Many large international airports, many beautiful, clean, tidy, but if there were an easy free WiFi line provided everywhere, there would be many benefits for ordinary non-tourists like us.
It s not bad at all. But there are many chairs for you to sleep. And usb charger
The worse airport I ve had to travel through! It was unfortunate to see staff being racist to a few different ethnicities. They were also particularly rude and abuse towards elederly travels with language barriers by yelling and shoving them.
airport is very wide and near SH, much volume of airplane come here and overflow, which often cause delay.
Me and my wife stayed in this airport for the first time while in transit during our trip to Los Angeles, California through China Eastern Airlines. Not every personnel though can speak english fluently and we cannot speak chinese either so asking for directions was not that easy. Good that the information/ help desk personnel are very helpful and we were able to find our way to the Shanghai Disneyland Resort and back without any problem. Also its facilities are world class and at par with the best international airports in the world and if I am to choose a flight route again to and from the US, I will not hesitate to include Pudong International Airport as one of my major options.
