I make $150 too much to continue to receive medical benefits for my severe asthma with medications costing $1,500 or more before insurance. They suggested that I reduce my hours at work after getting a $1\hr raise, or simply up and move to a cheaper house as if moving doesn't cost a penny. With less than a month's notice to budget and find a marketplace plan which cost more than the excess amount they say I make, with $6k+ deductibles and no dental, vision, or prescription coverage, the decisions of this office will literally cost me my life.
On another note, there are not nearly enough people working here. One girl was in the lobby for 3 hours.

It would appear to me that this is a ghost agency. They claim to have a working telephone number, and indeed, it is in the phone book under government agencies. However, they don't seem to be able to comprehend the workings of their phone system, since nobody can ever get them to answer the phone or return a phone call. HOW can an agency be an effective agency without a working telephone number? I am about to put on my food stamp applications that I don't have a working telephone number, either, and that they will have to send their notifications to me via homing pigeon. They can waste stamps and paper sending out notices that you missed an interview that you were never informed of, but when you try to call them to reschedule this unannounced interview, their issues with their phone system kick into high gear. Then they send you out a duplicate notice. Instead of wasting so much paper on something you never intend to complete, why doesn't the government spend the money installing a phone system that the caseworkers can actually understand and use to call their clients back? I would add my phone number to this review, but the agency probably won't be able to comprehend how to dial the number.

Mrs. Martinez was absolutely wonderful.

Mrs. Martinez was absolutely wonderful.
I honestly don t understand why they have so many bad reviews.
I filled out my application and was seen for my interview within seven days.
Not to mention, it was Christmas Eve and Mrs.Martinez was very cheerful even though she was working.
She was very personable. I used the website to look up what documents I may need and I was prepared for the process.
As long as you don t go there empty handed expecting them to do everything, I believe you will be pleased with how they treat you.
I am 29 years old and was embarrassed to go in but I have Narcolepsy and want to be able to get back on my health care so I can function and go back to school.
Thank you to everyone who was working.

Omg, ppl run for your life, these ppl don't care if you drop dead. They cut me off for no reason, medical. I have a heart condition, they could care less. Weve been there 20 times since April. Nothing has changed. I guess it'll wake them up when you drop dead in their office. Cold hearted nasty ppl. That blond behind the plexiglass has a heart of stone. I was practically dying there, and met with sarcasm. Nothing ever gets worked out. I wish id just die so I wouldn't have to go there every day. I seriously think they are trying to kill us. Get out of Illinois!

They seem to want everyone to go online for information and updates and applications. Not always easy for everyone. If you re having trouble, call your Illinois state representative. They seem to have a hot line and are very helpful

The folks at the Rock Island DHS office are some of the hardest-working people I've ever met. Their case load results in an extremely fast-paced day for all of the case workers, yet the five or six people I met over the past couple months were pleasant, patient, caring and efficient.

I do understand the comments about difficulty reaching by phone (hence my 4 stars instead of 5) but I believe that is simply due to the workload.

I have been in that office maybe ten times, and while I did have to wait a couple hours once (I arrived just before lunch) most times I saw a case worker within 15-20 minutes.

Bottom line...I found the folks at RI DHS helpful, pleasant and very busy, and certainly worth the wait to meet them in person.

Thanks!

Horrible place to deal with. I turned in my daughter's BC and ssn and the same day I told them I had a job and wouldn't get my check stub until the 28th of that month. Well I let it go until I had two pay stubs like they ask for turned them in on the 13th of the filling month and they sent me a letter stating I owe them money and I never turned in my paperwork regarding my income. Nobody knows how to communicate.cita very aggravating that they can't even get any information correct.

HORRIBLE place to deal with! It is a shame these people are paid, because they are not doing their jobs! I am working on the second round Medicaid application for my elderly parents. The first time they claimed they did receive the documents that I actually delivered to them. Second round they are claiming the same thing even though I have delivery confirmation the papers were received. Someone in the correct position seriously needs to look into this place. TERRIBLE!

I filled out an online application for EBT and sent them all the information they needed. I have been calling every day for the last two weeks to see what the next step is, to no avail. The "employees" there don't even bother to answer the phone, let alone return your phone call. In short, if you don't have seven-ten kids and aren't a minority, don't bother trying. Basically, if you ain't a minority, you ain't a priority.

There isn't enough room for be to even begin telling you how bad this office and the people that work there are. And it's not just a, "I didn't get what I wanted fast enough so now I'm whining" type situation. No. They don't return phone calls, mail conveniently never reaches them, they don't make the changes that you report for your case. Just as an example, the current fun I'm dealing with, they cut off mine & my infant's medical insurance but left my husband and my 2 older kid'salone. They said theirs was fine. So I jumped through the hoops, reapplied, and as a result they turn my insurance back on, leave my infant's off, and turned off the rest of my family's too. That's my screw you for going over their heads because they absolutely will NOT make changes to my case otherwise. My own sister in law works there and she's equally as useless to get help from as the rest of the staff there. Bravo Illinois. You may be broke but you should at least have control of your offices.

Terrible place. They have only one window. You have to stand in line for an hour sometimes. That's no way to treat sick, elderly people, and mothers with several toddlers. They need at least 3 windows to help us all in a timely manner. If you have no income and Public Aid refuses to help you go see the state paid lawyer in your township. They love screaming at Public Aid on the phone. Then Public Aid will be happy to help you. Been there, done that! :) Other than that, I love Public Aid. They make my life so much better. Illinois Medicaid is marvelous. If you are diabetic Medicaid will pay for $140 Dr. Comfort shoes. One pair will last you more than 20 years. Mine have no visible wear on the souls after 4 years.

I received a phone call because my appt was overbooked. DHS in rock island county is doing the best they can with the staff they have. They don't try to ignore phone calls but with only a single receptionist they are doing an outstanding job!

I understand there are a lot of cases to be handled. But once upon a time when you called here someone would actually answer the phone. They give you the run around and then your without. If I didn't need a little extra help right now I would be happy to never have to deal with this place.
