We went towards the end of the free day which is an amazing offer to get to go for no admission price, but we also didn't get to see many animals, in fact, the most animals that were around were inside the tropical discovery building meaning we mostly saw fish, reptiles, and amphibians. Don't get me wrong, the tropical discovery is a cool area, but we didn't get to see any elephants, lions, hippos, or the rhino. The hyenas, giraffes, zebras, and the tiger we're about the only mammals we saw. Oh, and the seals who didn't seem to mind the cold. It was awesome but honestly I'm glad we didn't make a whole day of it like we had planned, we saw all the animals that were outside in the hour, hour and a half we were there. My girlfriend was really disappointed not to see any elephants since that's her favorite animal, maybe we went too late? Not sure the reason, but there wasn't much activity. We'll try again on another free day, definitely not worth paying the normal pricey admission fee in my own opinion. As you can see from the photos, the zebras looked like sad horses in a pen (while I know they are essentially just horses, it would've been nice to see them in more of a natural setting not a farm setting eating grass out of metal horse feeders; that just looks very farm-y to me). All the other photos are from the tropical discovery which as I said was an area of the most activity (also meaning the building was very packed inside).
