We went on a free day and it was not as crowded as you would expect. They ve done an amazing job updating the park over the years. Right away in the morning the animals are pretty active. The new tiger exhibit and elephant exhibit are definitely highlights. The sea lions were also pretty active. The rhino looks like it s from a movie. And as always the giraffes! The only downfall is the geese are like scary confident. I m scared they re gonna attack my 18 month old.

I was not impressed at all!!!!! Michigan zoo WAY better!! Cheyenne Mountain Zoo WAY better!!! Used the restroom no soap!!! People were using the bathroom and walking out without washing your hands gross !!!!! Staff never fixed it! The price for this place.... not worth it.. pretty much all the animals were even out at the other zoos you get to touch most of them and you also get to feed them couldn t do none of that here ! Family and I were so disappointed

Small zoo, very expensive. We looked forward to living in a city with a zoo, unfortunately, it is so expensive we will not be able to afford to make it a regular family outing. Disappointing!

Even though I feel like zoos are prisons for animals, I enjoyed the gorilla that charged at my wife and I. One bird in the bird sanctuary actually sang the hunger games catniss song and they even let peacocks walk around the zoo.

Great local zoo. Current attractions: "Trash Art" and baby red pandas. The trash exhibi includes lots of critter sculptures that are created from ocean garbage. As for live animals, how cute are the baby red pandas? They look more like reddish colored koalas with cat's ears and bushy raccoon tails, and if you catch them at the right time, they're pretty active. And if you're a foodie...the grub isn't too bad either!

The Denver Zoo is wonderful! You can spend an entire day there or just an hour. They have wonderful special events for holidays. A particular favorite of ours is Zoo lights in November and December. It is magical. They have programs going on all day throughout the zoo. They are constantly improving. We are sad they closed Bird World, but I know they will replace it with something extraordinary. My 3 year old loves the carousel and the train, of course. My 6 year old is obsessed with the snakes and spiders in Tropical Discovery. I'm partial the the elephant show. There are small play areas strewn about, like sandboxes, fake tree stumps, and statues intended to climb on and in. There are concessions everywhere. We never leave without Dip'n Dots or popcorn. And the gift shop is great!

The zoo itself is not that big, but the animals are well kept and they seem happy. My only complaint is you will be searching for parking for hours, you might have to park in a nearby neighborhood and walk! Bring your walking shoes! Very nice park and lake surrounding the zoo

I love hanging out at this place. Even when it's hot and there are lots of people around. So much so that we bought a yearly pass. It only made sense. Entry for an adult is $20, so when you have a couple that makes it $40. The yearly pass is $80. If you go there with someone else twice, it already paid for itself. It even gives you a discount to special events and they send you periodical emails that give you special deals. If you love zoos and love to be outside, you owe it to yourself to go there, then when you get there, go to Guest Services and purchase your yearly pass so that you get you discount on concessions inside the park and even in the gift shop.
Enjoy your time at the park!

Our trip to Denver Zoo is always amazing. Each time there is always something different to do. Get the zoo pass it is worth it! A couple times to the zoo and you already paid for it anyways. They have an app for the zoo that helps you plan your trip, and the member gives you discounts for food and drinks and also the stores! Zoo staff is very friendly. Save some $ by buying Zoo cups when purchased you can pay just for refills and bring them back with you for next time. Have fun!!!

Good here costs a little bit more because their probs are for Giants, so far we have had no problems missing an exhibit, it is so large there is too much to see just in one day. I do suggest getting a membership if you have more than one kid and reside here in Aurora or Denver. It has saved us so much money for the amount of trips the three kiddos demand.

Went in January and still saw several animals. I could not find the lions even after asking two workers. They both sent us to the front exhibit which actually rotates between hyenas, wild dogs, and lions and today was hyenas. So I still don't know where the lions were. However, the elephant exhibit is one of the best I've seen and I liked how close you could get to the giraffes in the giraffe house. It was fun and pretty cheap for a zoo ($15). Groucho, the elephant, appeared to be dancing before the elephant show. It was hilarious to watch.

Love taking the family to the Denver Zoo. The staff is always friendly and the zoo keepers really care for their animals. I love that they have people around the zoo at different locations giving info on the animals like at the sea lions, tigers, and penguins. Also their Boo at the Zoo event is always a fun experience for the kids.

This is by far one of the nation's best zoos. The zoo is huge, with an amazing amount of animals that actually hang out in areas you can see them. You'll definitely need more than one hour to experience everything here. Wear comfy walking shoes, bring sunglasses and a hat as most areas aren't covered.

Great for kids. well organized. Didn't feel crowded in lots of food choices. Great animal curation. Loved it better than the City Aquarium that's for sure. Places to sit down and relax. Have a beer or cold coffee.

They've done great in response to the pandemic. I do miss tropical journey though, as the botanist who puts that together deserves a gold star sticker. It's like walking into a rain forest.

We moved out of state several years ago and visited the zoo. The updates are great since we left. As a former member, we used to go a couple times a week in the summer.
We went in the evening and few animals were out. Save your money and don't go after five unless you are just there for a walk. I am sure it is pretty awesome in the morning, though. It's a great place when the animals are out.

A nice zoo experience that is ruined by a few tragically poor exhibits and spaces for several animals. The primate house proudly displays a sign that it was constructed in 1923. I'd like to think we've come a long way in animal ethics and humane exhibit design since that era.
The bears are very clearly not provided with proper exhibits and stimuli. Both the brown and polar bears were showing signs of agitation and pacing when I visited.
Compared to my experiences at other zoo's; DC, Columbus, even Pittsburgh, I found the Denver Zoo to be profoundly more depressing. Zoos serve an important function in educating the public on the importance of preservation and the majesty of the animal kingdom. With that function comes the responsibility of providing high quality exhibits and proper stimulation for their animals.

The layout and exhibits are really cool. They have food and drink available throughout and the staff and volunteers are really friendly (aside from this one "security guard" who thinks it's ok to take a tone with people. How he got the job I'll never know because he looks like a strong breeze could knock him down, let alone any high school athlete. A tallish white guy who looks to be about 40 with a mustache who probably knows he's a loser and can only feel like he's any type of someone by putting on that uniform.) But any way, it's definitely a good way to spend the day. The elephant and seal shows are fun to watch. They seem to keep the habitats as conducive to the animals as possible, and it's all pretty clean. If once you're done, you're not ready to go home, the Nature and Science Museum and Civic Park is right there. The only reason I give it 4 stars is that it's pretty expensive. The price of admission is now $20 per adult. The 2 of us ate a bbq sandwich each (which was good,) shared 1 large soda and a large bottled water for $35, so it was a $75 three hour event for 2 adults. They take American Express except at the ticket window.

Something's were closed but a great experience. Plenty of animals to see and watch. Masks are work your entire time there. They have the park set up in a one way circle and you miss nothing. You need a timed ticket to get in. Not crowded at all.

Some decent areas, but a large portion of the zoo needs updated to today's standards. There are many empty areas for this reason. Definitely a good way to spend a day though. The newer exhibits are spectacular and there appear to be several ongoing improvements. The elephant/rhino and lion areas are especially nice. Could be a few more restrooms. Plenty of dining options throughout the park.

Terrible zoo. Specifically, there seemed to be a shortage of animals or just one animal in some cases. No polar bear exhibit, one brown bear, no lion, no tiger. Very disappointing visit, don't waste $40, not worth it. I'll never return to the Denver Zoo, I saw more animals at the pet shop.

Love, love, love this zoo! Animals are well taken care of, and the staff is always pleasant! I love being able to watch the animals interact with the enrichment in their habitats or the various cool features a lot of them have (ex: elephant bridge and pool, various levels and food enrichment in apes). The keepers are very knowledgeable and always happy to answer questions! Very glad my fiance and I have a membership now!
