I wish there was an option for no stars. Do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere if you find yourself in DeLand, FL for some reason. We reserved a room for two nights a week ahead of time and paid extra for a king-sized bed. When we got to our room...surprise! Two double beds. We went back down to the lobby and both the young girl and the older woman working seemed disinterested and even irritated that we were asking for a different room...even though we paid extra for it. Apparently they were all booked up for king-sized rooms and didn't bother to let us know. While we were waiting, another girl came in and she apparently had gotten the king room she reserved so the older woman begrudgingly asked her if she would mind a room with two smaller-sized beds, which thankfully the woman was fine switching rooms. The rooms themselves were not horrible, they were your standard 2-star hotel rooms, tv, mini-fridge, microwave, etc. All fine by me. It's the staff that's the issue. There was hardly anyone at the front desk the whole weekend we were there and when we finally caught someone there they wouldn't even acknowledge you. There were several times I even saw employees out front smoking. Just a horribly run hotel, period end of story. Level of service makes a huge difference!

Almost everyone in my group got seriously ill while staying here and I couldn't figure out why, until I saw the staff handling the food while coughing all over the place and rubbing their faces with their hands then touching the food. So unhygenic. No regard for the health of the people staying there.

Workers friendly and helpful. Got handicapped room. Easy to move around in. Room clean and attractive. Beds were not good in room. Took lesser of 2 evils in bed to sleep in. Room very dark. Breakfast each morning. One worker went out of her way to help me with breakfast since it it hard for me to reach things in a wheel chair. She also made sure I had an open space to park my wheelchair.

The worker the next day did not. When I asked for help she brought me a very large bowl of bacon much more than I could or should eat. Other people staying there and eating breakfast helped me when the saw I needed help including opening a space for my wheelchair and getting me things I could not reach.

I felt I had much better service in motels half the rate..

I stayed at this same hotel in August. I often come to DeLand to visit family and to visit the State Parks. The hotel staff are all very pleasant and make each stay a joy. The managers are always so friendly and willing to help. I called the hotel after I booked online to see if it was possible to check in two hours earlier than the posted time. I needed to get a shower and dress for a funeral. They were very helpful and Tom had a room cleaned early for me. My brother and his wife also booked a room and they too had an equally good experience. I really appreciated the consideration they showed.

During my stay I walked out of my room one morning and one of the cleaning staff was also emerging from the room next door. She saw me and smiled and asked me if there was anything I needed. You just don't get that type of concern at other hotels! Truly a remarkable group of people working at this hotel!

The morning I checked out of the hotel, one of the managers offered me a bottled water and granola bar for my road trip back home. I always stay at the Deland Comfort Inn and will continue to do so. Please thank your staff for going out of their way to make a traveler feel as though they are at home.

Review: Start to finish and why I gave 4 stars even with my experiences.

When I called to make the reservation, the woman was very nice, and helpful.

When my kids and I got there, that same woman checked us in and upon arrival the place looked clean, and taken care of. It's in a decent area too. Which is a plus. In Florida you just never know! So dont worry about that part if you're coming with kids, or alone. There is even a Dunkin Donuts RIGHT NEXT DOOR for lovers of decent coffee! WALKING DISTANCE EVEN!!! Bonus!

So we check in, get our key, and go to our room. I check it out. Bathroom- clean. Room setup over all - tidy. I check the bed. Pull back one sheet, theres a red fuzzy or something. I thought well, ok maybe it fell off the person's clothes when they made the bed?? I pulled back the sheets more, and there was a SCAB in the bed. Yes, a scab off someone's leg. I'm pretty sure I washed my hands raw. I immediately went downstairs and told the same lady that checked us in. She said she would get sheets and make the bed herself. She comes up, and still friendly, but seemingly slightly irritated that they clearly didnt make the bed. As I keep telling her how I found it and threw it on the floor when I realized what it was - she says in a more irritated tone....they didnt even vacuum! I'm getting you a new room, I'll be right back. Several minutes later the manager comes up, and as I tell him what was going on (he acted like he really didnt care) he said yeah ok we have another room for you. And I'll give you 5,000 points on your rewards card. We dont travel that much so that would do us no good. He ended up giving us that night for free.

So after the manager checked the new room we were going to, we switched rooms. I checked that room, and there was a dark hair in the sheets. So they, again, changed the sheets. After that, the room was good. No bed bugs, and the floor had been cleaned! Lol

The breakfast was decent every morning. We are vegetarian, so there was basically fruit, waffles, and cereal for us which is fine. One thing I would have loved, was if there was strawberry slices in strawberry syrup for my waffles. I've been to one hotel that had that, and it made all the difference! But on a side note, we were there 4 nights and they did have different waffle mixes so you didnt have the same thing every day.

Checkout was easy and they were still super nice, even with the rough start.

I gave 4 stars because of the discusting inconvenience at the beginning. That was pretty gross. I probably would have knocked off another star, but they sure did do everything possibly to try to make it right.

Spacious and clean. Nothing fancy, but included small fridge/micro/coffee pot. Relatively quiet, as well. Check-in credit card process ...was slightly klunky. Kevin, at the front desk was crisp, professional but pleasant.

From check in with Bonnie to check out with Perla, our stay was flawless. We stayed in the King Suite, which had a bar area that included a mini fridge, microwave, coffeemaker and a sink. Also there was a desk area that the lamp had a 3 way bulb so that a person would have adequate lighting to work by. The bed was very comfortable. The only drawback I would mention is that the sofa is a little low to the floor. When you sit down, if you are tall, your knees could come up to your chin.
The breakfast bar had a good variety of food offerings, along with juice and coffee.
Due to the humidity, they do have dehumidifiers in the hallways, but they are very quiet.
I would recommend staying here to anyone and we would stay again.

We have stayed here many times and considered it like a second home. However, this time I was attacked by fleas and now both my feet and ankles and lower legs are covered in bites. The itching is terribly distressful. I question the pet friendly policy and their ability to protect guests from fleas. We also were continually bothered by a barking dog across the hall as the owner left the dog alone in the room for long periods of time. I like dogs but I didn't pay to stay in a kennel.

Pet friendly hotel. Great front desk service. Nice breakfast and clean rooms. Need to get additional washer and dryer. The one pair were always being used so we could not get our laundry done. But the benefit of having our pets with us made the stay worthwhile. Highly recommend this hotel.

This was a great stay. The rooms were spacious and very clean. It smelled fresh when we first entered the room. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There was a computer glitch while checking in (nothing the staff had control over) which took a little longer to check in and they were very apologetic and gave us a bag of snacks for our troubles (which it really wasn t any trouble) breakfast was very good and the dining area was clean and very modern. Will definitely stay here again.

This was a work trip. The rooms were clean, beds comfortable, and very spacious. The receptionist could use a refresher course in customer service. The breakfast was alright and the location was great, the hotel was location in the midst of everything, from fast food to sit-down restaurants, Wal-Mart and Publix, Dairy Queen to Dunkin donuts to Walgreens, all within walking distance depending on how far you like to walk, lol. I would stay again.

Comfortable and homey. Provides everything a traveler would want.
I have a large fiber diet therefore when I go, it is a lot. The toilets are small and cannot handle the load and will back up. This happened twice which required staff to get involved. Extremely embarrassing. Just a heads up. Pun intended.

Horrible. We werent even in our room and they kept stealing money out of our account without permission for stuff we werent even doing. They try to find ways to drain your account. Im going to call my lawyer next especially if i dont get my money back. I dont recommend this place at all.

The GM Jennifer went above and beyond to accommodate our last minute reservation. We lost our power due to hurricane Irma and had to find shelter fast. Large updated rooms. Nicely sized bathroom. Free breakfast in the morning. Just all around great service. Highly recommended.

The hotel was fine. Very clean and standard amenities. My complaint is with the communication of the staff and the policies of this particular Choice Hotels branch. I booked 4 rooms for a high school field trip. I was told I had to put a credit card down to reserve the rooms. I made it clear we were paying with a school check. I asked multiple times if my card was going to be charged FOR ANY REASON. I was told no multiple times. Of course, after we checkout, I discover that my card (which is actually a debit card) has been charged for three of the four rooms. When I called to inquire about it, I was told that they didn't know how to process a check, so they charged my card instead! When I told them repeatedly that this was theft, they changed their story. I called no less than 7 times, speaking to 2 different people each time and was given a different story each time. They also did this with the reservation in the first place, which should be an entirely different review. As of yet they have still not returned my money. It is too the point where I have spoken with my lawyer and am planning to file a suit against them. They have two forms of payment from me for one reservation and they are trying to lie/back track their way out of it!

We stay in Deland 3 times a year for music competitions (i am a high school choir director) and many of my colleagues are there just as often. I will never book with this hotel and I will make sure all my colleagues/friends hear about my experience here before they book their events as well.

We stayed here one night while roadtripping across central FL. This was a last minute booking, but we were very happy with the well appointed and clean room. The bed was comfy and the room was quiet. The morning breakfast was sufficient and typical of what you find in this type of hotel. I was surprised at how nice/clean the general areas were and the room looked recently remodeled. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that I felt the room rate was a little high for the location. I could understand if it were downtown in the historic area. Overall I would stay here again or recommend it to someone wanting to stay near the university.

Bed bugs! The staff is very responsive but my friend is bitten head to toe from these little rascals. Stay here many times before but never issues until this stay. Hope the management provides good customer service with this issue.

Not too bad of a place. Its clean and kind of convenient for those visiting the area. I mean, if you love dunkin donuts, its right next door but, the halls are pretty hot and kind of smells of cigarettes.
