Deep Cove Canoe & Kayak Centre Review

If a zero star would have been possible... totally stupid company policy. I wanted to rent a solo kayak for 2 hours. I have been asked to explain in English how to get back on the boat if I slipped off. These are technical words I don t know in English.
I have been kayaking 2 years in a club when young, and I rented many kayak without ever been asked that and without any problem. I do understand safety reasons, but I was asked if I wanted to join a (pricey) group tour instead... just try to explain me how a group tour helps getting back on your boat.
Staff is nice for sure, but the policy and rental conditions are TOTALLY STUPID !!!

DISHONEST IN EVERY REGARDS.
Dishonest staff: don't hide behind your "safety policies". I wanted to rent a single kayak for 2 hours and was told by one of their staff I had to follow a capsize recovery training. I was then told the kayaks were fully booked for the day. I checked on their website and THERE WERE kayaks available all day long (you can even pick the model you want: castine 135/140/145). Also I checked their website for anything regarding safety policies and capsize mandatory training: nothing was found to this date (13th June 2019). I therefore asked a senior staff member about that policy and he kind of ended up admitting it was more about having the boat available for longer rentals than 2 hours especially in this busy period. Facing such lack of ethic, I preferred to give up. And I encourage you all to do the same and avoid them.

Deep cove has amazing views not only from quarry rock but also from the water. Kayaking is a great way to experience this

It was awesome, our tour was very memorable and our tour guides were knowledgeable and full of information about the surrounding area.

Super helpful staff, with great gear to rent out. And they offer a lot of classes over the summer to help teach kids water safety.

We have rented 2 kayaks for two hours. Service for perfect, helpful and friendly. Their kayaks were awesome, water was not getting in when paddling plus they had a rudder so it was super easy to navigate them.

The landscape is simply amazing. It is a must if you're visiting north Vancouver. The hike also leads to some outstanding views.

Deep Cove Kayak is great. The staff are friendly and helpful, and it is very easy to make reservations online or by phone. Their online waiver system is also helpful. Deep Cove is a beautiful spot, and I highly recommend seeing it by renting a kayak, canoe or paddle board from Deep Cove Kayaks!

We took the Paddle Canada Level 1 course at Deep Cove Kayak before a week-long group kayaking trip. Jack was a super instructor! We knew nothing about kayaking and he explained everything very clearly and patiently to us - paddling strokes, capsize recovery, safety equipment, nautical charts and navigation, tides/currents/weather, regulations, etc. We had been hesitant to take the course because it was relatively expensive for us, but we used all of these skills pretty much continuously during our trip. The only thing we ended up being unprepared for was having to pee from the kayak...

Website isn't working. Can't tell if there are rentals available by going to website. Drove over an hour from South Surrey and ended up unable to rent kayaks. Went to Jericho Beach rentals instead.

Having fun here EVERY SINGLE TIME! You can do a little hike to quarry rock or just hanging out at the park or kayaking or paddle boarding it's just so nice here!!! Good for friends and family or couples!!!! Staff are very nice and patient too!

We had a great 3 hour tour with Liam. Saw 2 kinds of jelly fish and loads of seals.

Arrived and the sign said fully booked, but thought we'd ask anyway and there were some SUPs available in about an hour or so. Bit of confusion with the girl behind the till with which time was available and staff were a little slow, although nice and quite busy. Beautiful trip out on the water.

Always enjoy renting from this place . If you have the time try and make it up to sliver falls . About 2 to 3 hours away , if you have the wind with you even less.

Staff were great. Handled a very busy summer's day with ease. Correct social distancing in place as much as possible. A smooth operation and good service !

Friendly staff! We booked our paddleboards a head of time and when we got there, the rental staff were efficient and quick.

Great place for boating and also there are some area for picnic.

Good place for hike , there is kinda trails with many steps to go or you can use different trails to go up and see a good view

Rented kayaks for a busy Sunday morning. Got a bit of an overview of how to manage the boat. The instructions for routes was not very clear and had to ask about it a couple of times. That being said, process was very simple.

Incredible experience you can kayak and have a view of the residences that are located around the lake, you can drive a bicycle and eat in beautiful and picturesque restaurants or have a delicious ice cream, do not be surprised if you see that they are filming a movie or commercial is excellent .

Very friendly customer service who walk you through the rules and all the kayak operations very well. They have tons of kayaks but I recommend to reserve especially on a summer day! Go early as the sun isn t so hot and there s a nice breeze on the water

They are so caring and accommodating here. I told them I was pregnant and they make me feel so comfortable everytime I go...from holding the board securely while I get on and off and ensuring I'm ok before I leave - these guys are what customer service is all about!

Kayaking was great, the service not that much, they wrote my name wrong when I booked over the phone and it took them ages to find our booking the next day...

Had a fun intro to SUP lesson with Mike. He is an amazing instructor, very patient, super nice, and taught us the basics and some advanced techniques. We saw some jellyfishes and harbor seals during our journey. Highly recommend!

Went for a 2 hour kayak excursion and had a blast. The staff were incredibly knowledgeable and very helpful

very crowded place, i recommend you rent ahead because is kind of difficult to find kayaks available the same day, especially summer season, also a bit expensive but the area is beautiful

Very busy place during the summer. Would recommend online booking prior to getting there. They do have active and quick service. You ll love it in the summer.

Above and Beyond Service!
I left my paddling clothes at the Kayak Centre after the Tuesday Night Racing and only realized it when I was returning home. I made a call to the centre to see if was still there and the staff quickly found my gear, called me back with a plan on getting it back to me as I am from out of town. The staff hung out my gear to dry it out and then packed it up for UPS. I have been to Deep Cove Kayak Centre twice now and both times the staff have been super helpful and encouraging. Same goes for the great people at Coast Outdoors.

I had an awesome time kayaking! Service was awesome and staff was friendly and clear at explaining instructions.

Been there a few times for shorter trips and they were great.
Decided on a whole day trip this time and we got a terrible double kayak. The back compartment would fill up with water every 10-15 minutes. Had to stop and pump it out every so often. Plus i had to sit in a pool of water the whole day. The drag and extra weight made us very slow compared to the other group members.
It really ruined the day!
Told the staff but they didn't care.

excellent service and outstanding experience! pricey but very good overall experience. competent explanation of how to use and reasonable plus for support of how to. They explained from everything to parking if someone was unfamiliar with congested area yo helping you offshore and back. happy to recommend.

Good kayak centre with lots of opinions. HOWEVER they do sell out fast so I recommend reserving at least a day in advance. Prices are a bit high but there aren't many options in the area. However this opens up the opportunity for a wonderful trip kayaking around deep cove. They also have charts showing what the best area to go to. Staff are friendly and very helpful!

Come here on a nice sunny day, spend couple of hours kayaking and try not to want to come back. Not possible

So much fun! Very busy and yet organized and helpful, with all the extras needed. The Cove is almost unbearably beautiful, and sheltered - an ideal place for recreational kayaking.

The paddleboard and paddle were in good shape, the life jackets were only a bit worn, but the staff was all pretty young and when we were coming in to end our session, they were more interested in a swimming competition amongst themselves instead of helping us bring our gear in. GREAT experience, staff should be a bit more attentive.

Had a great experience kayaking from here. But I take off one star for the poorly managed check in and payment system. It took my group of 10 around 75 minutes to pay, sign waiver forms and get on the water. We were in line for about 15 minutes before they told us that we actually have to go back outside sign the waiver forms on the iPads and then come inside to pay. It wasted a lot of time and then verification of waivers and payment took another 40 minutes! It was insane.
Bathrooms were quite dirty but I guess that's expected from a place like this... Staff was nice overall though and because we got on the water really late they extended our time by that much.

Great place to start a SUP trip from. Parking in Deep Cove is insanely hellish though.

Went on my first kayaking experience and it was so much fun! Had a fantastic guide named Robin who was very knowledgeable and patient with us... even when the jellyfish distracted us. Highly recommend deep cove tours!

Very beautiful place. The only two problem right now is that there is too many people there not doing social distancing and not using mask which is very bad for the current problem with covid 19. I hope they have some kind of rules here just for temporary so we don t have a new wave here in BC

Staff is very nice and view is nice however the waves created by moving boats can be annoying. Overall an enjoyable experience.

Loved the Friday night lights and the bioluminesence highlighted along the tour. Boat was a bit leaky thought.

A friend and I rented out a double kayak for 2 hours. The staff were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The helped us make a plan for our kayaking route and ensured that we were comfortable with our kayaks. The rental process was stress free and easy. I would come back here every time. For people coming here, 2 hours is good enough.

Mike was very knowledgeable about a huge variety of topics as he led our family of 4 on the Deep Cove Explorer kayak tour. Gorgeous scenery and his narrative added to our experience. He changed out one of our kayaks a couple times before we started to be sure that the fit was right and the kayak was in good, clean shape for us. Personal attention and a great tour. This operation has a huge number of tour options that looked awesome! Easy to get to using public busses from the city- give it about an hour. Had a slice of pizza and an ice cream afterward but not a ton to do otherwise in the town, so we didn't linger too long.

If you're looking to rent kayaks in Vancouver and only Kayak once, there is no place better than this. The staff are amazing, you can rent kayaks in 2 hour blocks. They do a great job of taking care of you and there's no better spot than one which sees the mountains come straight into the sea. They do paddle boards, kayaks, and all sorts of other stuff. This really is the best place to come whether it's your first or 100th time on the water.
