Great steak sandwich, and the burgers are pretty good. Worth stopping by here on the way to or from one of the beaches up the coast from Santa Cruz.

We had a VERY wonderful breakfast! The restaurant was very clean and sanitized. Our waitress was very pleasant and very attentive! Tank you for the best start to our fun day! Your remodel is beautiful! We will for suer be coming back again!
Great. Had a good experience everyone was friendly I like tacos and chips. My stay was great serivr was on point and 2 plus 2 equals 4. Yolo swag
My rating is for the hotel: I was very disappointed. The rooms don't look like they do on the homepage. We had to move rooms because the first smelt like smoke. The rooms were not really clean and rather small. Service was so so. I give them two stars because they helped me with changing rooms. Would definitely not go back. On the positive side they had a big parking lot.
The restaurant staff needs more training. Everyone seems a bit spacey and not really paying attention to customers (and it wasn't that busy when I was there today). The food is good, not great.
A bit stuffy/hot inside and super busy so service was weak
Really cool spot to stay with a fair price , beach its walking distance. Me and my wife really enjoyed ourselves.
Good food for adults and kids. Great bakery selection for desert. Loved the double espresso with Paris-Brest almond puff pastry. Very helpful waitstaff. We will return.
Do not get the "Huevos Rancheros". YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED! This should be a hearty dish with beans, eggs, tortillas, salsa, cheese and sour cream. What they served me was a medium sized shallow bowl with one layer of beans, two eggs over easy plopped on the beans and a bit of cheese, and sour cream. No Salsa and the tortilla's were skinny chips. My first impression was that I got ripped off based upon every other place I order that dish. Apparently, I'm still feeling that way because that was over 10 hours ago.
A really good restaurant to stop for Santa Cruze visit. However, the service on a weekend is considered very slow. Food is somewhere above average but the Asian session on the menu is not satisfying.
Wonderful service, delicious beers on tap-- my favorite part was the live music! The band, "Wild & Blue", knocked it out of the park. I would definitely go to the Roadhouse again, especially if that duo is playing music!
We had a great time. The food was excellent. They have a great set up outside with plenty of room. We enjoyed the live music. Awesome view. The only thing I would suggest is maybe some sort of lid or cover for the glasses when it gets windy. Some dust or sand flew in to our water.
I ordered the steak and it was overcooked twice. Finally gave up on getting a medium rare steak. The service was extremely slow. There seemed to only be three servers for the whole restaurant. We weren't in a hurry so it was ok but if you are in a hurry, don't go here. The calamari appetizer was good and my husband got the duck which he said was good. The duck sauce uses schezuan peppercorns that has a chemical taste and leaves your tongue numb so it's not pleasant.
Beautiful dining room and very appealing menu on Highway 1. Perfect place to stop on your ride along the coast.
Nice place to have lunch before exploring the beaches. The pasta is quite tasty.
Terrible service. The food was as good as the service.
Overpriced. They found a way to mess up gnocchi. Which is pretty remarkable.
Don't waste your time or money.
The chef created a vegan meal off the menu. Enjoyed the wine. Worth the drive from Santa Cruz. Rooms for rent. Comfortable walk to the ocean.
Lunch was excellent. Good clam chowder. Waiter was great
Baked goods in the day old basket. And of course the good stuff behind the glass. Good coffee and tasty cooked foods too. Always helpful staff.
Excellent food. The Bistro Burger is delicious. Took quite a while for our food to come out, but the waitress informed us the service was a bit slow due to new cooks in the kitchen. I was just happy to find a place that allowed dine-in again so I didn't mind waiting. Would definitely go back if I'm in the area again. Wait Staff was actively wiping down tables in between parties and handing out disposable paper menus.
Waited 30 minutes and was never served. Waitress walked right past us and never said hi or took our order. Will never go back or recommend!!!!!
We had the mussels, burger, garlic bread and some drinks. The mussels were some of the best I have ever had, plump and so flavorful. The garlic bread was a delicious cheezy calzone. And the burger was huge!! The drinks were heavy pours and tasted delicious. And during this COVID time, the view of the ocean with well-spaced tables outside was a treat!
A recent visit to this place left a really bad taste, mainly due to their customer service.
The lady at the front counter almost yelled at me for wanting to ask a question by coming inside the restaurant. I understand that these are special times, and restaurants want to be careful (I was full masked - in fact double masked, stayed more than 12 ft from the closest person), and still the lady yelled at me to stand outside.
I understand protocols and more than happy to follow those. But those were not posted anywhere that i should stand outside, the door was wide open. She could have given the same message nicely or posted signs to that effect, but Instead, she chose to start shouting.
All we expect as customers and just regular human beings is for people to be nice to each other when talking to each other. But we will be taking our business somewhere else as I do not want to support local businesses that are not nice to their customers.
Had what was described as a traditional Thanksgiving dinner...what a farce!!! We ordered according to the menu & only got cold turkey, a spoonful of potatoes & cranberries which were hot, plus a drink each; others got Prime Rib with all the extras & two drinks each & they paid the same $60 each as did we....
Totally disorganized not to mention what an absolute ripoff it was...VERY DISAPPOINTING-WILL NEVER GO AGAIN NOR WILL I EVER RECOMMEND IT!!!! AND, I only gave it one star because that was the only way it would let me post this-even more annoying!!!
Food wasn't bad, but over priced and flies were everywhere.
Much fitness if you want to travel the steep stretch.
We make a point of having either lunch or dinner @ Davenport Roadhouse Restaurant whenever we travel from our home in Sonoma County to the Carmel & Monterey area. This is usually 3-5 times a yea, for the last 10 - 12 years We stop at Davenport Roadhouse going south and coming back north. Their staff are cordial, and well experienced as servers, and hosts, To put it succinctly they are really enjoyable people. Kind, helpful and personable.Their food is natural, locally grown, fresh, and delicious. They also use wonderful, unique & appropriate spices and herbs. They also are able to meet the needs of special eating challenges such as Gluten Free, Dairy free, vegetarian etc, even if the chosen meal is not specifically noted as above. They accommodate if at all possible. Our most recent visits were yesterday, and the day before. Cassie was our server, we had Calamari, & White Roasted shrimp appetizers, Fish and chips & Bacon and Tomato "Burger" We highly recommend their establishment. Their seafood is outstanding. Bravo to Davenport Roadhouse Restaurant.
Stopped in for coffee and a muffin. Always great service and a fun stop before the beach!
Really bad experience tonight. We arrived at 4:45 and were told it was between services and only serving drinks and appetizers. No worries. We ordered drinks and waited until 5:00.
Server took order a couple of minutes before 5:00. Our food finally arrived about 5:40. We waited 40 minutes for a cheeseburger with fries and a risotto. The risotto was hot when server brought it to the table but the burger and fries were barely warm. The cook's timing was really off.
The server was too preoccupied with the bar and the counter and so many other things that periods of 15 or 20 min would pass without even seeing him. We had to flag him down to get drink refills, a box for my leftovers, and our check.
After waiting nearly 10 min for him to come back to get our check, we walked to the register with it only to be informed that only he and no one else was able to run our charge card so we could pay our bill. Even after they got his attention and handed him our check and card, he was too busy to run the card and made us continue to wait.
The food was good, as always. The service from the kitchen was really slow, considering the number of people in the dining room at the time. And it was obvious that our experience as a guest in the restaurant was not even in the server's list of top ten priorities.
Wonderful food, great view, good service. We'll be back!
A nice place for a rest along the highway 1. The foods are decent. Not a full bar.
The food is farm to table, or net to table and is fresh and tasty. The pizza is a s thin as you can get and delicious! The wait staff is friendly and very helpful. The bar is small, but well stocked. Easy access from the road. We had really nice dining experience.
Stopped here for a dinner experience, the wood oven pizzas are an excellent choice and there was plenty if dining space at about 4pm. Food service was fast and the waiters/waitresses are friendly. Parking can be had on either side of the building and there's a winebar for those who are staying for the night.
Fun place to relax and eat good food located in Davenport. Affordable prices.
Great food and amazing staff! We'll be back as soon as we can!
Service, food are great but bathroom needs some upkeep
Nice room with an ocean view for an affordable rate. Food downstairs was excellent. Staff was very friendly. Right across the street from the beach. Will for sure be coming back
Stopped in for lunch on our way to Carmel and thoroughly enjoyed it! Delicious burger and wine, good service. Lovely quaint atmosphere. Would definitely stop by again!
Food is four stars. Service is zero stars. Food took almost an hour to arrive, and some food arrived after the first food was already eaten. Management was completely unapologetic.
We were seated. That was it. Waited 20 minutes for any acknowledgment. Finally left. Unfortunately I'm unable to review the food. Such a shame.
Unimpressive crab roll and at 18 dollars it is a ripoff
The food and service was amazing! It was the best hot, toasted, Turkey sandwich I have ever had
Blue cheese dressing wasn't dressing, other than that it was okay.
- great location
- friendly staff
- not bad if you can not fond any other place
- Old/dirty stuffs
- needs serious maintenance for everything
- expensive for this quality
- unorganized
Awesome atmosphere..loved i found today and we will be back for sure, food really good and away from the city. .
The Davenport Roadhouse Restaurant and Inn is a great place for a weekend breakfast. The latkes are wonderful reminders on mom s cooking. We frequently served latkes for dinner but Davenport Roadhouse s use of them for breakfast introduced a wonderful new way to enjoy them. Another great breakfast item is their burrito. So good, so yummy.
A very fun place to stay, with cute little rooms and a great view of the beach.
Always great food and very friendly staff and amazing service every time.
Diverse menu, very good food. Service was slow, but attentive, worth a stop!
Food was delicious and the service was very good. Waitress was very apologetic about another wait person taking an entree that belonged at our table. It took a while for it to be re-made, so she wanted the cost removed from our bill. Someone higher up said no, but she gave a nice little fruit tartlet to go.
Nice roadside cafe in Davenport, CA along the central California coast. Food was well prepared and tasty. Service good. Would reccomend.
Hidden gem. Loved it. Food + inn + view + live music.
Food is ~c maybe a c+. But they seem to have some logistic issues even on non busy days waited 30min for food. Customer service needs some education on how to deal with this. Pretty views which makes up for some of the issues.
Had a GREAT breakfast this morning at Davenport Roadhouse. Great service, friendly, very clean and Yummy
The food, when it finally came was delicious. However, the service was poor because of a lack of staffing and/or organization. Didn't see a lot of movement from the kitchen staff. Granted, it was a busy Saturday, but why not adequately staffed on this day? Owner/manager or whoever was seating people seemed to be new to the busy restaurant/hospitality business. If efficiency improved, it has potential to be really something great. Best of luck in future.
The food was mediocre, the service was terrible -- rude waiter, impatient. And to top it off, when I got back to my car, there was a huge no parking sign propped onto my car that came out of nowhere. It wasn't there before. The owner came out and stared yelling at us. We explained we ate at the restaurant, had four full meals there and still the guy kept telling us not to park there again. No problem, will never be there ever again!
Great food and service. Perfect dinner after a beautiful day at the beach.
Great food and service. Beautiful short hike to the ocean just across the road.
Good food and service. Live music and taco specials on Tuesday nights.
New ownership, and it shows! Great food, fantastic atmosphere, and a view that cannot be beat! Wait staff was courteous with great attitudes and smiles you could see through the masks.
The garlic bread is a must! A cheesy calzone to share with the table.
I had the Bistro Burger, and my partner had the mussels and every bite was delicious!
I'm going to try take-out next; the owner stopped by our table and said he loves the Pizza.
Cheers! (And I mean that... the bartender was not shy with the booze!)
Can't wait to go again.
We arrived and stood upfront for a while staring at a mostly empty restaurant around 11:15 a.m. last Sunday morning. A few waitresses walked by and each told us the next person we saw come by would help us. We anticipated there would be a line out the door... but there were many open (some dirty) tables. My wife was born in Santa Cruz and we have been coming to the Roadhouse to escape for a nice breakfast for many years... but it's been several months. By the time we got our seats and the waitresses spoke with us, several minutes after we arrived, they told us that breakfast had just ended 2 minutes before, while we were standing at the front. We explained that we drove there for breakfast and would hope that they would have service anyway seeing that it wasn't even yet 11:30 am. The waitress refused saying they had a big party, and didn't want to serve more breakfasts. This made no sense, but then a sloppily dressed young man named Henry refused and gave the most strangely aggressive attitude I've ever seen from service staff. It was so odd, I couldn't believe he was the "manager" on duty. Zero attempts at accommodation were made.
We left, never to return. My party walked 100 feet down the street and had an excellent breakfast at the blue whale. It was very full, with very good food and friendly service, and will get our business moving forward. Henry should never serve in "customer service" role again... It is obvious that he doesn't understand the term.
Good view, atmosphere, wine, music and choice of food. For Vegetarians I recommend beet salad.
Charming small town restaurant. Good views, short walk to the ocean.
Family friendly and unpretentious.
The lively group singing sea shanties at the bar really added to the experience.
Needs improvement-Table service is just okay: servers seemed to be a little inexperienced/sloppy and appeared to be overly hungry for tips. There was a long wait time and confusion about who ordered what. The wine service is not great. Hopefully they will brush up on service so that things will improve.
Even so, overall the service staff was pleasant and friendly!
Really enjoyed going to this restaurant and would recommend stopping by this place if you re traveling up the coast for a short day trip. The beach in Davenport is not to be missed.
First time here. I got the fish tacos. It came with two big tacos and black beans. It was delicious! They also had Asian dishes and steaks. Live music on some days.
