The lady doing visas was very rude and wasted time by sending us back to take out some documents she didn t need when all she had to do was return the unnecessary documents and accept the application. When I went back to the counter I was told to come back an hour later because it was a few minutes past 12pm (I first submitted the documents around 11:30am). Unbelievable. The receptionist was ok. I thought Japanese people were supposed to be polite and efficient. I assume the people giving negative reviews based on a certain rude lady are all talking about the same person.

Very very rude staff, specially the new receptionist and the visa woman. Emailed few times and on-site 2 times, and everytime got told off missing document. I have prepared everything according to their checklist, and they said "I don't care the checklist you have, you need to follow another one, and I don't have time!" well if you don't care then do not put it on your website.

I can not imaging whats gonna happen if there is an elder person who doesn't have much idea about finding information from online, needs some help from them or someone travel from outside of Auckland.

I don't get where the negative reviews are coming from, but I've been here 3 times, and staff have always delivered polite and efficient service. From the security guard, to the attendants behind the windows. It's a bummer that you have to book 2 months in advance to get free fingerprinting service (otherwise you'll have to pay $50 to get it done immediately in the Post Office, which btw is a total rip off), but convenience does not really come for free does it? In any case, I've had a very pleasant experience with them in requesting for a police certificate, so I'm leaving this review. :)

I think the staff have changed? I have been here two years ago with my husband, and the women working there were rude. However, I went back several months ago and the staff were smilely and patient... Happy about that. Hope they keep it up.

Very bad. The aunt at the front desk was very bad, and even the surface was not friendly. It didn't feel like the legendary very polite Japanese. The efficiency is very low, Keynes can be signed in three days, and even someone signs it on the same day, but it takes ten days.

I've been touring the world for over 8 years now, but this was the worst customer service experience I've ever seen. The lady at Japanese consulate is very rude, doesn't like to explain anything. I request to her superiors should take action, so no one else can have the same experience.

Charged almost $50 for incorrect translations. Terrible customer service.

If you've ever been to Japan, you will know that Japanese customer service is by far the best in the world.
That's what makes the experience here embarrassingly disappointing.

This is supposed to be a gateway/window to the country, yet the staff are undertrained and do not even pretend to be interested in their job.

Necessity is the only thing that will bring you here.

Kudos to the security guard however. He will always pleasantly greet you when you arrive.
