The service is epic. It was clear we did not have a captain assigned to our table which is generally unacceptable however our group had found our hospitality to be better. Alaskans have no judgement but we also have no negative energy to share so our team stepped up and lived the night with us. Cheers!!
A beautiful space but to be frank, the food was a letdown. I m not a heavy eater, especially with the bayou heat, so I ordered the trio of soups & an order of the shrimp ceviche. My grandma ordered a bowl of gumbo and wanted to try boudin, so we ordered a side of that. The waitress seemed really disappointed that we didn t order more food and asked me several times if I wanted to order anything else, even after I declined each time & explained that I didn t want to eat a lot (which I shouldn t have to do). The ceviche was delicious & refreshing and one of the three soups (the soup de jour of creole shrimp & tomato bisque) was noteworthy, but the gumbo and turtle soup, which apparently are their specialties, lacked flavor and seasoning. The gumbo was floury & too thick, like the roux wasn t thinned out and the turtle soup - which I grew up eating so it wasn t unfamiliar or novel - well, I didn t make it past a second bite. The boudin was literally a heap of uncased sausage plopped onto a plate; texture and presentation were off-putting, to say the least, although the flavor was nice & it wasn t too spicy, like boudin sometimes can be.
Credit where due: service across the restaurant (except the weird pushy encounter with the waitress) was wonderful. The dinner view overlooked the outdoor courtyard, which was very pleasant. But overall, for our last meal in New Orleans, it was the least remarkable meal that we had the entire five days of our trip.
Outstanding in every way. Food was excellent, presentation excellent, and the service was above and beyond. Our server Margeaux was a positively delightful young woman; one of the most personable and professional servers we have ever had in a fine dining establishment. I only wish I had a Matlock seersucker suit instead of my old navy blazer so I could have fully immersed myself in this timeless New Orleans experience.
Outstanding service from start to finish. Well made cocktails, delicious romaine salad. Had the pecan crusted gulf fish and the filet mignon. Both were excellent.
The food and experience is unquestionably stellar. I'd just like to report that they put as much thought and care into their Covid precautions as they do everything else. Makes it feel very safe.
Wonderful Dining Experience!! Outstanding Service, Jonathan, Julien and Laura were so attentive and helpful!! Our three course meal was so delicious!! The live music and decor complemented our meal! Upon leaving we were invited to tour the kitchen, bar, outside dining area and the beautiful garden!!
The every best restaurant in the country. I eat the bread pudding ever time I go to New Orleans. The owners, the whole family are truly wonderful. We go every year. And we never miss a visit to the great Commander's Palace. See you soon guys.Wil Durham.
to my taste it was too expensive and too much battwr in every dish. otherwise felt that customers were happy, the waiters we happy and all workwrs were proud of their work. there was a feeling of a sucessful culinary restaurant with unique tradition. the chief shef ws walking aroubd and checking on servers and customers. the food was unique, but to my taste, hard on my digestion , again too much butter in everything.
Absolutely gorgeous, for starters. I was seated upstairs, where most of the exterior wall is made of huge windows. The food was fantastic - not too heavy, perfect portions. Be prepared that a couple desserts need to be ordered with your entree, but they tell you which ones and will show you the full dessert menu too to help you choose. Service was phenomenal (the guy in charge of water refills has an eagle eye or is able to read minds to sense when you've taken a sip). Definitely make a reservation - it was absolutely packed for dinner.
I highly recommend in getting their Turtle Soup - a LA staple, if you're brave enough to try it, try it at Commander's. With a slight drizzle of sherry, it was savory, thick, and yummy. Their Creole Bread Pudding was also a great way to finish a meal.
" And here we have whipped butter from happy New Orleans cows." Really? Arriving just as they opened for lunch, I listened to every table being told this. Kind of cheesy for an "elegant establishment ".
Nice traditions, very friendly staff. I did not know that if you are not properly dressed, you would be sitting in another area of the restaurant. That did not happen to me, just saying.
I have never in my LIFE experienced anything at a restaurant like we did at Commander's Palace. We ate dinner here last weekend (group of 8 people total) to celebrate my engagement to my now future wife. The food, ambiance, service, EVERYTHING...absolutely amazing. I cannot say enough wonderful things about Commander's. This is now my absolute favorite place in New Orleans. To top it off, Ti Martin came by our table to say hello and congratulate us on the engagement. If I could give it more than 5 stars, I would.
This was the biggest disappointment of my eating life. Overly salted escargot app. Pecan crusted drum had no discernible pecans and was doused in Cajun seasoning. Frankly I could have destroyed the meal as easily at home. Do not recommend and my thoughts are with the graduates of this supposed culinary delight.
Was there to celebrate two wedding anniversaries in a party of six. Had a great time! The seafood was spectacular, the wine selection was enormous and the staff did whatever they could to make it a special night.
Phenomenal experience. The staff was wonderful and the food was outstanding. I was afraid this would be a tourist gimmick that didn t live up to its reputation, but was thrilled when they delivered at every moment. Greatest brunch ever.
All aspects of a restaurant experience come together at Commanders. From ambiance, service and the food. If you ever find yourself in New Orleans this is a must visit restaurant you just can't miss.
Lovely restaurant. If you're used to nice dinners in California, it seems a bit stuffy - but the food was delicious. That's what really matters.
Tried the turtle soup, duck two ways, and the bread pudding souffle. Everything was super tasty! Our waiter was great. Wine list was good, if a bit traditional. Would come back.
We had fantastic lunch specials including 25 cents Martini. The service was top notch and makes you feel like you are the queen. Make sure to dress up at least to business casual.
Food was great, service was flawless. Just know they certainly won't rush you out of here - our brunch easily took 2.5+ hours and it was just two of us. We even rushed dessert to make our flight on time. Our rookie mistake!
The food was great. Atmosphere and service even better. Staff/Chef were at a minimum Phenomenal! If you haven't been, you are missing out! Worth every dollar.
This is a tourist destination that locals love. 1 hour before dessert order the bread pudding souffle. Its amazing. Service is outstanding. This place rocks
Great atmosphere in a quintessential New Orleans neighborhood. The service is attentive and the food is Cajun/creole with a slight upscale variance, enough to differentiate from typical south Louisiana fare...much like their live jazz band playing recognizable songs with an inventive twist.
This restaurant came highly recommended by so many people. Very traditional/classic dining experience. Menu was great. Huge wine list. Dress code is important to adhere too! We had no issues BUT they did have to turn another guest away who was in denim shorts and a tee shirt lol.
Wonderful, historic place with seven different dining rooms. Outstanding food, servers and desserts. If you get there before your reservation, don't bother going to their bar. Bartender Gray's studious indifference and ability to ignore customers is truly amazing.
Dinner here was a trip highlight, living up to all the expectations and more. The dinner staff were very polished, personable and professional. Everything we ordered off the menu was exquisitely savory and delectable.
The outside of the restaurant was cute, however, the inside had terrible decor. Drinks arrived halfway through the meal - we asked multiple times. Also, we couldn t even order since no one was paying attention to us and never gave us the menus. The gumbo soup was cold, and full of MSG. It tasted like canned soup. The salad looked like it was from a canteen in the airport. The seared tuna was soggy and tasted fishy. We ordered the steak to be cooked at medium, and it came out as well done. The only good thing about the restaurant was the ice cream, and only ordered it to change the taste in our mouth. Our waiter was clueless and billed other tables with wine they never ordered by accident. The staff had good intentions but was incompetent. This was the most underwhelming food experience in NOLA. The high ratings are a mystery. Not worth the money! Don t waste your time.
Had the 7 course Reveillon dinner and it was all-around fantastic. Each course better than the one before it. The foie gras mousse in the pecan pie shell was so decadent and wonderful, I'm sure I'll still be thinking of that dish for years to come. The service was perfection. We couldn't have asked for a better holiday dinner experience.
Great service. Felt a little rushed though. Filet was great if you like a little spice. Wine list is very good, but VERY pricey. cute how they tie balloons on your chair if it's your birthday. The whole staff acknowledges your birthday if you 1 or 100 years old :)
Disappointed. This place was our first stop for dining in NOLA. Reservation was made a month or two in advance. Was told when I made the reservation that a party of 9 women could not be accommodated, but they would make their best effort. However, the party may have to be split up. I called again a week in advance to confirm my reservation and again discuss party of 9 for lunch. What a let down. We arrived and were one of the first reservations. The place was NOT full whatsoever. I was instantly given grief about a party of 9, and that we would have to be split up. Ok whatever, right?. However, the entire time we were there, several tables ALL AROUND us were empty. The service was WAY too hoity toity, almost in a snobbish way. I have been to several 5 star restaurants and still felt very comfortable and well taken care of but without the sass. The lunch special 25 cent martinis are disgusting. The price obviously is a reflection. The food was delicious, however the rest of the experience was a disappointment. I was honestly embarrassed that I had taken my group of ladies there and ended up apologizing to them all after. Good thing we had SEVERAL other great restaurants and experiences while we were in NOLA to make-up for this one. This was literally our only disappointment our entire trip.
Wonderful classic New Orleans restaurant with all the old-fashion glamor one could hope for. The turtle soup is wonderful. The quail, the gulf fish... Really you can't go wrong.
Food is good. Service and communication should be much better for the cost. Was not communicated to us we would be waiting approximately 2 hours after we checked in with our reservation. Main course took a lot of time to be brought out. The food is good but be prepared for the possibility to spend a lot of time here
An enchanting place where the gentlemen servers escort the lady patrons by the arm to their exquisite restrooms. I don't know much about food, but I did like how there was always someone keeping an eye on my .25 cent dirty Martini. I had 3 during their lunch only promotion.
We had Jazz Brunch , the restaurant was full but we felt like VIP guests as the staff was very attentive. The atmosphere and food were incredible. Highly recommend
The food was mediocre, the drink specials were fantastic, the setting is beautiful. If you're in New Orleans and have several days stop here for lunch but if you're tight on time there are better places to try. The big bonus though is that it's very close to a notable cemetary so it's convenient to stop by after your tour.
I have been coming to Commanders for over 25 years. I have such fond memories of this restaurant. In my opinion it is the one restaurant in New Orleans that everyone must go to before they die.
I had my 10th birthday dinner here and got to wear Emeril's chef hat. This is where I got engaged. This restaurant has wonderful food and wonderful service. I have never had a bad experience here.
My most recent visit was for a large private party. We started with butternut squash soup. I can not stand squash, but this soup was great. The next course was an incredible salad followed by a fillet with mashed potatoes. The fillet was fork tender and cooked perfectly. For dessert we had cheesecake. It was possibly the best piece of cheesecake I have ever had.
If I had one complaint it would be that the service seemed a little off. It was great, but not perfect. This could have been because of the size of our group, and it was still a great experience, but it is worth mentioning.
If you have never been, you must go to Commanders Palace. If you have been, hurry back. I can't wait till my next visit.
