Went with a larger group. Was so excited to try this place out and was sadly disappointed. Was a fun night out and all of the staff was very nice. Turtle soup was good but frustrated that everything on menu seems to be prepared with alcohol. My gumbo soup and my entree both arrived cold. Pecan pie was delicious but unfortunately, there are definitely better restaurants to try when in NOLA.

I'm still a little salty about getting kicked out of the joint, but you know what wasnt salty? The Pan Roasted Pork Porterhouse.

In layman's terms: it's the most scrumptious pork-n-beans you've ever shoveled into your gaping pie-hole.

And the compliments dont stop there... the salad that comes with the meal was a perfect lead in to this wonderful entree. I mused that they used "real Bacos" (tm) and the waiter threw me a slight grin. Seeing that I gained his favor, I inquired as to which fork I should start with, the outer or inner fork. His reply without an ounce of pretentiousness: whichever I would like.

Since the martini's were $0.25/ea, I queued up a Ray's Melon, Commander's and Cosmopolitan. Being a total lightweight, was able to toss back the sweet melon concoction, but met resistance with the stronger Commander's martini, and tapped out after one sip of the Cosmo. Uncle! Uncle!

Honestly, I cant remember if we had dessert or not

Amazing food and reasonably priced! Staff is extremely attentive and knowledgeable on the history of the restaurant. Ask your waiter if a tour of the restaurant is possible and see all 7 amazing dining rooms, kitchen, and wine cellar that currently holds approximately 30,000 bottles of wine!

Fantastic evening celebrating our granddaughters 18th birthday. Lorenzo, Jabari, and Steph gave 5* service. The food-phenomenal. The filet mignon was perfect and the desserts are worthy of hiding stretchy pants in your purse.

We were a little surprised by the "dress code" that was reiterated on the website and during the phone reservation of "NO JEANS allowed." It was a little of a let down as we made it a point of dressing up only to see 4 men walk in at the same time all wearing jeans and being seated.

The elegant service and food outweighed that minor disappointment so I still give it 5 stars.

I experienced a physical altercation outside the restaurant, and requested the restaurant's security footage of the incident as evidence. They refused to respond altogether. It is not surprising there are so many folks running scams or robberies in the area. (Yesterday, someone told me a man with a gun had just passed down the block.) Why the restaurant would not cooperate in trying to address the violence in the area just blows my mind.

I was only grabbed and threatened, which to me doesn't rise to the level of calling the police. But if something happens again in the same area, I want proof for my own protection. Sadly, Commander's doesn't care about the safety of folks in the area.

I have heard so much good about this restaurant for over 40 years that I was terribly surprised by my experience last Wednesday, November 15, 2017. My fiance and I had a late lunch. I ordered seared crusted shrimp over a rice dish. When it came it looked and tasted nothing like what I expected. The 5 shrimp had no visible crusting and the rice was rather mushy and tasteless. An hour or two later I was sick, very sick, and it lasted for over 24 hours.

A true New Orleans classic place, with an atmosphere that you cannot get anywhere else. This is how a high class restaurant should feel with prices like these. I would never complain about prices of places if they were like this between the amazing service that is top notch and the food. The food is amazing, but frankly not standout amazing. Thats the only reason its not 5 stars, still delicious but not my top choice.

Oooo Chef Meg Bickford how you teased my palate with your rich hearty turtle soup filled with herb an spice topped with a swirl of sherry second to none on my afternoon lunch only to warm me up to a quail breast split open atop an goulash rice bed as if I was stuck inside on a cold rainy winter day and I was. As a matter of fact is was that very inclement weather in which I dined and your dishes warmed me to the core. You Chef have stepped it up and put some flavor back I to the Palace. Myself and 2 others thoroughly enjoyed our lunch and the festive Mardi Gras theme attire the other guests were wearing on the day turned it into a day to remember. The kitchen ran tight the staff was a step ahead on all accords and I Chef thank you with all my heart to have had the opportunity to dine on your menu.

I m not able to properly articulate how wonderful this restaurant is! The staff is kind- attentive, but not overbearing. Michael made excellent champagne recommendations and was very pleasant! I would recommend the garden room as the ambiance is indescribable. There is a magic to this place, for sure!

Commander's had always exceeded my expectations, but tonight, its reputation has plummeted rather quickly, in my opinion. The service was not half as good as the restaurant's usual. Our waitress seemed in rush every-time she would come by the table. We had to wait for extra olive juice for martinis for quite a while. Only after we asked a third person for the olive juice, they finally brought it.

The food was not nearly as delightful as it had always been in the past. The craw-fish ettouffee was not good at all. Luke by John Besh's downtown New Or;leans makes a much better one. A double shot of espresso was brought in tea cup! A series of disappointments on a single visit.

The valet parking boy, however, offered an outstanding service.

My opinion on Commander's Palace has changed substantially. I will stop recommending this venue for now. I hope tonight's experience was just a one-off, but in the near future, I will stop frequenting this restaurant.

I have to recommend this place Mon-Fri for lunch (non-holidays). This is the epitome of New Orleans fine dining. You cannot arrive in torn jeans and flip flops, but you can have the best meal of your life. There is a prix fixe lunch menu, where you can have the turtle soup or 3-3-3 to accompany. This is the BEST turtle soup in NoLa, and the flourish presented will leave you in awe (or hunger). Make a reservation, and allow time to either explore the cemetery across the street or the local neighborhoods....you will not be disappointed.

The food, service and atmosphere here are absolutely impeccable! We had the most memorable and delicious Sunday brunch here. Our server, Lorenzo, was charming, attentive and so fun. Our food was the most amazing of anything we've had during our visit to New Orleans, and that is really saying something! We each got to choose a starter, entree and dessert and we were all in awe of our food. I cannot say enough great things about this place. It is a higher-end restaurant, so be ready for that, but SO worth it!

The service here is great! It s an upscale traditional NOLA restaurant. They are known for their turtle soup which kind of resembles gumbo with chunks of minced veal and turtle (kind of tastes like chicken). They add a drizzle of sherry on More

The service here is amazing! The staff is very nice and attentive. They are friendly and happy to assist you with any questions you have. The food was good, but not necessarily worth the money. The quail tasted excellent, and loved the house salad. Overall the atmosphere was excellent and it was a wonderful dining experience

Loved this restaurant so much. The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful and the staff was nice. The food was delicious. Fellas, please be sure to wear a collared shirt when you go there or they won't let you in.

Amazing food and service. The wagyu beef is the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. We ate in the garden room, which honestly looks a bit like a hotel out of the 80s, with rose panel print on the carpet and lots of shiny gold fixtures. I didn't mind that because the place is an institution and it probably should look old-fashioned. I took off a star because it was so loud - unbelievably loud. I had to shout for my husband to hear me, and ask him to repeat himself every time he spoke. I'm not even sure why it was loud, as the ceilings appear to have sound dampening /absorbing properties, and the floor is carpeted. Possibly it was because it was restaurant week when we went, or we just got unlucky with the clientele in our room. However, the food and service was IMPECCABLE. So, highly recommended!

Service was good. The starters were good,. My fish...the drum, was way overcooked, below average, uninspired. No one asked why I didn't eat it. Don't worry about the dress code , although we were dressed up, 1/2 the people near us were in gym clothes and tennis shoes and yoga pants, t-shirts. Its changed since I was there years ago. .

Not great for vegetarians. Went to Sunday brunch with my family. Service was very slow and it was difficult to get drink refills.

The starters and desserts were great. The regular main courses were good. The vegetarian option (not listed on menu, I had to call ahead to find out about it) was terrible. Fried rice balls that were greasy on the outside and dry in the middle served with unseasoned vegetables and the tiniest drizzle of sauce. They removed it from our bill after noticing it wasn't eaten.

The atmosphere was nice, there was a jazz trio circulating that was fun and at an appropriate volume.

I think my expectations were too high... I was thinking this would be similar to a fine dining restaurant in terms of food and service, but it was more akin to a tourist restaurant that isn't expecting returning customers. Go there for the culture and history, but don't expect too much.

We had a family party of 11 so our group was split into 2 tables. Robert was our waiter and was exceptional. He read our group quickly and was very helpful when we had questions about the menu. Food was exceptional. A plus experience. Fine dining at its best. Thank you for an amazing brunch!

My wife and I took a 45 minutes ride from our hotel to this restaurant to experience the food the may had but we were kicked out as soon as we walked in. They had a dress code I wasn't aware of but I guess they enforce it on certain people because I looked inside and saw a guy with a shirt just like mine enjoying his food. Shameful place!!!

Let me first say that I m a local New Orleanian and to me Commander s Palace is the epitome of fine dining in the city. The combination of exceptional food and impeccable service sets them apart from most restaurants in New Orleans. My experience with the service on Sunday was anything but impeccable. Our main waiter seemed initially attentive but seemed to lose interested with our table quickly. The waiter took our order that included appetizers, main course and desserts. Appetizers and the main course were server on time and were outstanding. Our waiter then stated he forgot to take our dessert order which we then reminding him in fact he did earlier. Our deserts were deliver and basically dropped off with no offer of coffee or other beverages which we found odd. Once we completed dessert, my wife and I sat for about 15 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us and present us a check. Frustrated, I ask our assistance waiter (who was very good) for a check because our main waiter completely ignored us. A very disappointing dining experience.

Food and drinks were good, especially the filet mignon. Desserts were the highlight....specifically the strawberry shortcake & orange flavored chocolate 'bar'. Hostess staff & welcome were delightful and walking through the kitchen was neat. There are a lot of service staff but unfortunately we felt neglected for much of the meal. The crew didn't seem coordinated as we frequently had empty water glasses, had to ask to order a second cocktail, and sat with empty dirty dishes for longer than I would expect. It was also very loud. Since we were celebrating our anniversary, it was a bit disappointing--not the quiet, romantic setting we had hoped for.

My wife and I had brunch and were fortunate enough to sit out in the courtyard during a beautiful day. The ambiance was perfect, the service and dining was an excellent experience, the food was superb. What a fantastic way to spend our last moments in the city. Literally leaving with a great taste in your mouth.

Commander s Palace is near the top of my list of places and events I do sincerely miss since my move from my place of birth.

The culinary delights that flow from the kitchen are a pleasure to your taste buds. Service is one of the best you can receive in the Crescent City.

And if you are seeking to experience this fantastic restaurant and looking not to spend a lot of money there is the lunch menu.

Not only are there reasonable price selections but there is the .25 Martinis. This will go a long way for your enjoyment and help with the bottom line.

I miss Commander s.
