Nice view from the dining room. Good breakfast and great ambiance! Had a mini store for snacks and the like and a BONUS giant brass boar in the lobby. Could use a couple hooks on the back of the bathroom door for hanging bath towels.

I wish there was a hot tub. Everything else was good.

Old. Dirty. Creepy. Now closed for renovations.

Had an event, only two people helped and we set it up ourselves basically

Riverview Inn is a place that makes you feel like you are special, from the time of arrival, they smile, make you feel like you are welcome and important, they want to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. The employee's smile, they interact with you , pleasant and very helpful. even the housekeeping people asked if there is anything that we needed. These people truly do customer service well !!!!! This stay for us was very enjoyable. the view was awesome.the rooms was very nice and comfortable. I really want to say Thank You for such an enjoyable place to take a break, to sleep well. In the morning when we checked out, personable, helpful and we told to have a great day !!!! This Riverview Inn is a great place to stay. I had a non-refundable rate and could not make the trip.
But then they double-charged me.

I really recommend this place before they got a new person rent that room they let it sit three days and then clean I think they're doing an awesome job with the covid safety measures

My bed had a great pillow so rare in hotels! Everything else was nice too.

Clean room. nice shower. Pleasant staff. Beautiful river view. Free cocktail and snacks. Impressive and historically important antique furniture and architectural features. Worth the bucks and then some

Worst misrepresentation of what you are going to get .I have never booked a hotel online and been actually scared to scared to stay. Was the only guest in the whole hotel.
No water ,food was nasty .guest services fail.
Room was old ,bed was uncomfortable .

Nice hotel nice personnel very clean plus they send me my clothes because I forgot it out in the hotel , I probably wouldn t have rate it 5 star but I was only there for 1 nigth

Rundown but staff was great and everything in our room was clean and comfortable.

I was very disappointed with the dinners we had. It was not what I expected, the fish was over-cooked and crusty. Our salads were simple and for the amount of money we spent I would have liked a tomato on it. I will not go there again. I have visited this establishment on many occasions, the only time the food has been acceptable was during a conference.

This place is just amazing. If you are a lover of old woodwork and beautifully done glass and marble, you have to see this hotel and Conference Center. If you can get one of the even-numbered rooms you'll have a beautiful view of the river. The rooms are all modern and freshly redone, the beds are wonderful, and everything is very clean and new. The pool is not open as of May 8th, but it looks like it will be lovely when it's all finished. The breakfast room is large and bright and overlooks the river. There is TV in the breakfast room, but it wasn't turned on, so breakfast was peacefully quiet. The bar in the main conference room is from Al Capone's northern Wisconsin hideout, and is spectacular. The remodeling isn't done yet, so if you have problems with the off-gassing of new construction and new materials this is not the place for you right now. But give it 6 months, and this will be a Showplace.

The hotel is presently under renovation. The staff were very attentive to my needs and concern.

Very cool facility, with ornate woodwork and tremendous charm. Renovations are underway, and showing great promise. Staff is responsive and eager to serve. Awesome view of the river.

This place really sucks if I could rate this a zero I would. The worst hotel I ever been at.

Less than one star. Run down. Looks abandoned from the outside. Should be abandoned. Hair and dirt on the bed. Stains on floors. Not sure if it was from the murder that was there or not. The diner wasn't opened though they listed it but failed to tell us it wasn't open because of renovation. Bad parking lot area. Not quite a clear entrance. No hot tub. Good Wifi no password. Ripped carpet and walls. No air in elevators. What looks like mold on the ceiling in the pool area. Soft beds with feather tick comforters. There was a phone with no buttons. No dial tone. The ladies said it was because of renovations. But it rang at 4:30 in the morning for both days there!!! Deer head on the wall with a wild pig statue or water fountain. Just bad.

It was ok. No signage directing us where our class was located. Just very basic.

Very quiet and empty. Not a big selection for breakfast, damp and dark pool area. Freezing hallways. Awesome nice employees.

Currently staying at this hotel because My family had a decent experience last year. It has gone extremely down hill. There was hair in shower and on "clean" towels, stains on comforter, rude workers. The hotel stated they had a heated pool, which I aclled to confirm was working Thursday, and was told there were no issues. When my kids went swimming, the pool was ice cold. I went and told the front desk, originally they said they forgot to turn the heater on, then went down later to find a sign stating that the heater was broke. Not to mention thr pot smell as you walk down thr hallway. This whole stay has been poor, but unfortunately we are stuck. Horrible experience with no attempt from management to fix the situation.

I stayed there the weekend of August 31- September 2nd for a wedding and was extremely disappointed in the hotel we arrived to check in and was given the key to our suite, we grabbed our belongings and headed up to the room. When we got in the room the upstairs was dirty there was stuff all over the carpet strings,dirt, confetti, ect. So right away we knew our baby wasnt going on the floor, we didnt complain and started getting the pull out bed in the downstairs ready upon pulling out the sheets that were stored in the closet we found blood that hadn't been washed out on them as well as bugs on the bed. Needless to say at that point we went down to the main desk. He informed us that sorry there was no housekeeping there at night so we couldn't get extra sheets. Instead he moved our room to the next suite over. This one was cleaner still the floor was unvacuumed but there was no blood or bugs at least. Even after all these problems we never received any compensation or even a sorry. I will say the hall my brothers wedding was held it was a nice room but way too warm and they had the air locked so you couldn't adjust it.

Clean and friendly environments. Good size beds. Location is not the greatest place but the price and service makes up for it.

1000 people served for an awards banquet, all meals fresh and hot. Minus 1 star for speed of service.

Old, yes. But that's part of what makes it so cool. Its got many old school features that bring you back to the day when you knew people who had class used to stay here. It has all your normal room updates and very comfortable beds, so there is little to complain about. So far the staff has been super friendly. I think management changed recently cause you can tell they are upgrading services and staff qualifications. Is it a five-star? No. But seriously folks, if you are in this immediate area, are you going to find much better?

Room was nice but ppl above us were allowing their kids to stomp holes into the floor at 12am non stop..called the front desk multiple times and apparently couldn t get them to convince the ppl above us to sit tf down..unfortunately, I will not be staying at this hotel again When in town due to this situation..

On the outside it may not look top notch, but once you are inside it is beautiful. With antique woodwork and fireplaces from multiple locations. It is a treasure to see. The room was both clean and comfortable.

I just went for a packet pickup. It was confusing and the front desk wasn't super helpful.

Hotel has been completely redone. However not the best area and the restaurant is not open yet.

I didn't stay overnight but attended a conference here. This hotel is conveniently located. The conference room was clean and staff were helpful and friendly. One thing I did notice is that the women's restroom needed attention all weekend long. The handicapped stall was out of order and the other three were dirty. There was trash overflowing from both cans and no one ever seemed to empty them.

Overly priced, no bathtub in rooms, breakfast was not edible. The pool water looked dirty, the pool room smelled so much like chlorine & it was super hot in there like a sauna. Do not stay here, find a different hotel.

Terrible beds...they are old spring style and I sink uncomfortably far into them. I was approached by strangers for money as I was parking my car. The room had random garbage and wasn't cleaned thoroughly. The breakfast was mostly not edible. Would not stay again.

Very nice and clean place. It had a nice atmosphere there. I was there for a wedding reception and I thought everything looked very nice and professional.

Our room was large and very clean. The beds and bedding were comfortable. The breakfast buffet was amazing and the staff working the breakfast were amazing - worked hard and extremely friendly. We also really enjoyed the view of the river from our room and the breakfast area. The only negative was that we could hear the noise for the next rooms and hallway pretty easily, but not enough to keep us awake or wake us up.

Facility is very nice, has an Antiquated turn of the century feel perfect for professional events

We always stay here. Left and had to turn right back around for a funeral. Hannah and the other young lady was very helpful. God sent people. Housekeeping was great and friendly..

Great place to stay I like the old feeling and look. We didn't experience any mold or dirty rooms as other posts I've read. There is construction going on and I think it's great they are updating. Has a haunted feeling walking the halls were suspenseful for us but made it fun. Breakfast wasn't bad they have a microwave if you need to warm anything up. Friendly staff and don't forget to rub the boars nose.

Staff was great!!! Room was nice and spacious. They have made many upgrades. All of the historic antiques are really neat too. Very clean room and hotel.

Very dated.... musky smell in the air. Was there for a tour of the facility for my upcoming wedding. Deck and patio areas are nice with a beautiful view and the employee told us they are updating and remodeling areas.

Cliffbreakers and me well we were best friends. I love this place. The food is amazing. I know 90% of the staff. Great people. Professional and yet personable. Have had everything on menu and made lasting friendships. I've been going there since they opened. Yes I was there when they cut the ribbon. The Friday fish fry was amazing and very very affordable. So many unique foods. The chef's know what they are doing. I very high class dinning experience. The deck looking over the river sets the most romantic atmosphere no matter what season. Can sit on deck when season permits. The architect is unreal. Very clean inside and out. Plenty of parking. Public restrooms are available. Establishment is wheelchair accessible. Bar and restaurant closed for now but the still have ball room for entertaining plus hotel is available anytime.

What can I say, the place is old and it's housing a lot of history. The breakfast was okay, the service was decent, but would I rent a room from here?

The building has character and the staff is polite and competent.

Definitely a nice place. Only had a few hiccups. The DirecTV kept going out. They are new to the Choice Hotel Chain. So I wasn't to unhappy.

My sister and her family stayed there. The kids wanted to see the hotel room and order pizza so we went to hang out for an hour or so. There was a strange smell there in the hallway. My sister and her husband loved the stay because of the pancake machine. They said the pool needed more lights. They slept well and the smell went away.

Service was prompt. Food was average. Atmosphere was 2 out of five. Place looks dated and in need of update.

It is an older building, but has been remodeled. High ceilings, beautiful woodwork, nice sunrise river view, USB outlets in nightstands, clean rooms, and friendly, helpful staff. Nicely updated modern bathroom. Breakfast was sufficient but nothing extravagant. We would definitely stay there again.

Great place but there are some worrisome things they changed. I did not particularly like that they did not have a hit breakfast. Quite disappointing.

After reading some not so great reviews, I decided to stay at this hotel with an open mind. It is not your typical cookie cutter hotel. The room we had was clean and the bed was a massive 4 post king. The dressers were seemingly antique and the room overlooked the river. I can imagine that a renovation on the scale of cliffbreakers is quite a costly venture. I love the spirit and I found it to be romantic even if it needs some love. It was reasonably priced and worked for our short stay. I'd suggest stopping and picking up snacks and drinks because there didn't seem to be any vending machine. The place has character, if you're looking for a 5 star resort this isn't it, but if you need a night away this place was kind of neat. We stayed in room 342.

This place is unique and cool. The views of the Rock River are beautiful. Super nice staff. Breakfast had nice omelets and muffins. The pool was open but the restaurant was closed for remodeling...we due order delivery from nearby RBI's, which was good. Our room was newly remodeled.

Me my wife my three year old and one year old were attending a 3 day convention in Rockford. Seeing as how we have two small children rather than drive from Milwaukee to Rockford everyday we booked our stay at cliffbreakers after reviewing their website.

I'll start off by saying that the staff were very friendly and helpful which helped salvage the situation. Looking at the photos online is extremely misleading, at the time of this writing the restaurant, deck, river deck/ walk were unacessable. They say this is due to renovations, which would have been nice to know during booking. This however was the least of our problems.

The hotel itself is in compete disrepair. Pulling up you will notice right away that every window is seriously stained, fogged, and filthy. The shingles on the roof don't match, and paint is peeling on the fasade. Going inside the hotel you'll notice the lobby is in great shape but it quickly ends there.

After getting into the jumpy elevator we exited to see a carpet that had more stains than threads left. We walked from one side of the hotel to the other getting to our room and there's not a section of carpet without stains. On the walls the wallpaper is also peeling and held down with thumb tracks, and the ceiling tiles were either water stained or missing exposing leaking pipes. Not to mention several of the hotel room doors appeared to have been pryed open at some point and skuffed horribly.

The room itself smelled clean and the hotel itself smells clean but once again that's it. Our room had peeling wallpaper, the a/c vent was full of dead bugs, dirt and grime. The hairdryer intake was completely clogged with dust and who knows what else. The carpet around the a/c was damp and there were pillbugs under it. As well as our window was stained to the point of having no opacity.

We investigated the pool area next and every photo you see must be from when it was built. When we got there it was 745 at night but it was very dark, the lights were dull and several were flickering on and off. Above the pool were four ceiling fans inoperable due to their fan blades drooping like palm leaves, press board plus humidity doesn't mix, the workout room can not be seen as they were completely stained and fogged inside the panes. Right outside of the pool area is an enclosed patio where the fencing is broken in several spots and the scarce furniture mismatched.

After observing all of this me and my wife decided not to stay the entire trip as planned and the front desk was every nice when we cancelled the rest of our stay and refunded our money for the next two days.

Being 830 we decided to stay at least that night after a long convention day, however it was near impossible to sleep with artists such as bon jovi and jimi hendrix, artists who aren't bad, but their music is piped into the hallways at a volume that is audible in the hotel room. At 2am you will find yourself humming along to living on a prayer....

The continental breakfast that's advertised is very very scarce as well. There were a couple of bagels, dry cereal, yogurt cups and a plate of mini muffins... but that's it. ... no platters of food like they advertise

All this said i understand, now after reading a news article, that they're renovating and the previous owner went bankrupt, letting the place fall apart, however they do not advertise as this, nor do their room prices reflect this. What seemed too good to be true a quaint place to stay while in Rockford is exactly that.....not true

I hope their renovation goes well but my family will not be staying there if our yearly convention ends up in Rockford again.

We came here from Michigan. This place is beautiful and smells so new! We were told we couldn't pay cash so we went to get a pre paid debit. Had a long sign up process only for the card not to work! It wasn't Cliffbreakers fault. The debit card wouldn't work. The clerk at the desk heard everything on the speaker phone and let us check in anyways and we can fix it in the morning. After a long day that was super cool of understandable of her. This will make me recommend this place to anyone. It's not about money but customer satisfaction.

Was there for an event last week. Believe that this facility was opened too soon after being closed for some time.

Some guests complained of over or under cooked food. Mice were seen running under tables.

Bathrooms were dated and in poor repair.

Really hope that more work is done to bring this facility back to a better state.

We stayed one night, last Thursdayand although there were not many other people staying we got stuck across from a housekeeping room. I was expecting to be able to get closer to the river, according to the pictures on the website you can go right down to it and even sit on a bench overlooking it, you couldn't do neither since there was train tracks there. Not happy with the misrepresentation.

They were still under construction when I stayed but it was a good stay and they have good workers

It was the personal touches that made our stay so enjoyable.. The manager himself took pride in this hidden gem in the same way a mother does a child, and I understand as he is overseeing renovations on this iconic hotel that reminds you of days gone by with it's ornate woodwork & grand ballroom. The beds were a welcome luxury to a weary traveler. The breakfast tasted completely homemade. Completely happy with our stay, my only regret is I didn't have time to linger linger by the river.

How do you have a chef on sight at all times and still serve a continental breakfast??? Rooms where ok.

First impression was a staff member smoking and unloading food in Walmart bags onto a luggage cart and putting it all, including gallons of milk, into the breakfast area and went to do something else. Staff atire ranged from street clothes to sweat pants and a dirty tee shirt. Key card was presented in a hand folded, printer paper "sleeve". Our room was on the ground floor (main level is floor 3) and when we got off the elevator, saw the wallpaper torn, huge stains on th floor, doors to rooms were visibly beaten up and dirty - some missing locks and peep holes completely, and security/emergency lights were missing. The room next to us looked like the door handle had been knocked in with force. Our TV didn't work and the staff begrudgingly came down to look at it - taking off to our room without waiting for us to accompany her. She did fix the tv with the remote they only keep at the front desk. The king sized bed was 2 twin sized box springs pushed together with a mattress on top. There were cigarette burns in the carpet throughout the room and hallways. The shower leaked water everywhere in the bathroom. The wireless was spotty at best. The "breakfast" was cold coffee, stale bagels, cereal, and muffins. Everything was dirty - food on the walls, large amount of dust on the side of the juice machine, tables and floors dirty, layer of dust, and chairs that look like they haven't been cleaned or replaced since 1980. I did not use the pool as when I walked into the pool area, it was uncomfortably hot and the water was completely stagnant. Highly disappointed for the price paid. It looks like at one time his was a 4 star hotel, but not anymore. I will not stay here again.

Attended a wedding there and everyone<s food was served cold.Butter would not even melt on potatoes or veggies. It was awful. And the seasoning on both meats served was so over powering I believe they were covering up something. . The couple in my opinion should have been offered a refund. YUCK.
