RIT is my second home. If you're looking to go here, especially as an undergrad, do yourself a favor and live on campus or as close to it as possible. Immerse yourself, get the full experience. RIT has a wonderful eclectic culture that I haven't found anywhere else on earth. Winter can be a drag over here, but that doesn't make the community or school any less amazing. RIT is wonderful and the friends that I've made in my time here are among the best. We've only graduated three years ago, but we still reminisce about our years here. You will be challenged, but you will learn a lot. Don't forget to have fun!

Horrible weather in rochester, especially for the poor 1st and 2nd years who don't have a proper tunnel system yet from dormside to campus. Still a bad walk for uc and riverknoll folks during the winter. Tuition is mad expensive, but that's because america is financially fked. Also, for some reason RIT parking gives you such a hard time (like nasty $35 fines) just because the RIT board doesn't have an effective way of putting limitations on how many cars can register for rit. Would I say this school didn't help me at all? No. I got to meet very few great intelligent people (some professors. Some students) and made cool connections. But man could the weather be better.

The teachers are great. The education is good. The facilities are excellent. But that isn't enough to save the experience. Life outside of class is brutal. The experience all together is brutal. The dorm life is terrible, the RIT INN is bad also. Apartments are overpriced from the premium ones to the unfurnished ones. The food was pound for pound the most awful food I ever had to eat in my life. The school is like 80% Male 20 % Female and out of that 20% less than 5% is attractive. So don't expect on meeting any dream girls here the chances are slim compared to other colleges. The weather is terrible, The parties don't kick it half as good as some other colleges, drugs run high here with Rochester being a warehouse city for drugs, The campus is so massive parking spots are at least a half mile away at times many times further. Lots of prank fire alarms getting pulled more often than not in the middle of the nigh. The public safety and student conduct system is rather garbage compared to other colleges due to the fact that many of the reports they receive are rigged to target another student they don't like (yes the university can be that childish sometimes they still play with nerf guns) . Everything on campus is expensive, undersized, and downgraded. The ATM machines want 4 bucks not including your own bank fees, domestic beers are 6 bucks imports are 9. The groceries are terrible unless you go off campus. Lastly there's the campus that is built on swampy wetlands and it's always soggy and miserable long after storms have passed too.

I'm thankful for the education I got it was good. But the overall experience, If I could do it all over again I think I'd take a chance elsewhere. Education is important and lots of opportunity come from it. But the experience outside of class is priceless. It's far more important because many people build the foundation of their future off of what they get from the overall experience. Education is just a tool to build off of the foundation and nothing will ever change that regardless of how nice facilities and teachers are at RIT. The experience is the foundation the education is what you use to build off it.

This review is only about the concession stand. Very impolite and un-accommodating service. Bought a slice of pizza (for $3) and paid with a $20 bill but they gave me $7 back in change. Immediately I went back and told them about the mistake and they said there was nothing they could do. I didn t take no for an answer and asked what other options I have and they said they could count the drawer. They counted 1 drawer (out of 5) and said that it was even so that was that. I asked to talk to the manager and he was very rude and dismissive just saying there was nothing they could do. My best advice to anyone going here is to smuggle in your own food. It will taste better and you ll have a little more money.

Rensselaer Institute of Technology, or "The RIT Institute of Technology" for short, is among the top 8 best Institutes of Technology in New York City. They have a university-famous hockey team, represented by their mascot, the Sun Devil.
Tip for the class of 2019: Only the freshmen call it by its full name; if you don't want to sound like a frosh, be sure to use the moniker "Ole Miss". Semper RI

My oldest son attended here for two years. Although the campus is not bad on the eyes, he didn't have the best experience. He says he could have gotten the same education, maybe even better by staying local, which would have saved us a ton of money. Before he can graduate he needs to land a co-op for 6 months. He has been out of school for over a year now and has yet to find one. The school, in my opinion. could be a little more helpful in this situation. Now, we are finding ourselves having to physically go up there for a long weekend to attend their career fair. Hopefully, he will be able to find one or a least be pointed in the right direction.

I really regret not being able to attend here when I got accepted in 2013. When I toured, there was so much that this University had to offer. LGBTQ+ Services, dedicated school for the Deaf, a special program for students on the Autism Spectrum, even a ham radio club on campus! Unfortunately I had to settle with something else to finish my education with. I'm sorry but the cost of entry was way too high for me.

Started off my undergrad engineering education at RIT, but decided to transfer after 2 years. Positives: The academics are absolutely incredible. Wonderful professors, all with real industry experience. Amazing resources, labs, facilities, etc. A very clean, well kept, and safe campus. Co-op program is great and very valueable. Cons: This is not a normal college. You will not get the normal college experience here. Mostly males, mostly unsocial folk, it's very difficult to enjoy your down-time or weekends on campus with the RIT crowd. Henrietta or Rochester do not have much to offer for motivation to leave campus either. There are a couple colleges around, but there isnt too much fraternization between them and RIT. RIT was on a quarter system (not sure if it still is), and our breaks NEVER lined up with any other college, which was a constant dissapointment. I consider myself a pretty average, well-rounded guy. I didnt go to college to party, but I did expect it to have a social aspect to balance out the hard work. This atmosphere does not exist at RIT, it is miserable, boring, cloudy, and cold!

The place has lot to offer if you utilize the resources. Its not just about academic excellence but grooming yourself at the fullest. At the end of your student life you can see your whole new self shining out of you.

I'd say the quality of RIT's academics are already spoken for. I would instead like to address criticism of the campus and social life.

I understand that beauty is entirely subjective, but in my view RIT, while perhaps not the most scenic, is still quite gorgeous. Personally, I quite enjoy the contrast between the warm and angular buildings and the lovely nature all around them. While the main walkway on campus does pass pass between the oldest buildings on campus, there are two other paths not too far out of the way which both offer much more nature to look at.

As far as social life, there really is far more to do than sit around in your room playing video games. I mean, alright, if you don't count the many events (there's probably at least one big thing happening a week), the several hundred clubs on campus which meet weekly (for example, the Improv workshops and the Ballroom Dance club), or friends you make in your classes, then sure, there's nothing to really do. But if you're refusing to put in the miniscule amount of effort it takes to look at the flyers all over campus to find something fun to do, I'm fairly certain you're going to have the same problem at any college.

And Gracie's is good, I swear.

Definitely an institution on the forefront of the digital and business world. Strong technically, certainly not a liberal arts school, that said, the course and offering diversity is sufficient for most.

Top-notch research university with a big bill. RIT's innovation, certainly in some departments, is at or nearly on par with the best in the country, and it's certainly renowned for it's computer science and computer engineering, but don't forget that Rochester has one of the top two largest populations of deaf people in the country, and NTID offers unparalleled access to education for deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Interpreters come out of here for American Sign Language (ASL) with the best skills in the world. The only criticism: the bizarre 'modern' art stationed around the campus. Is that sentinel statue really necessary?

Most of the reviews you will hear will be from oblivious alumni and picked favorites of the administration. Let me tell you-- as someone who worked closely with the administration through the student government and student councils, this college is terrible. Compared to my colleagues who attended universities who actually kept up with the times and growing university costs, RIT is only interested in growing profits and Munson is the incarnation of that reality. The board of trustees is composed of favored corporate personal from the rochester area. It was bizarrre to me that they just recently hired people to address the terrible housing issues and a leader to address deaf issues (first deaf board of trustees member despite being one of the largest deaf colleges in the country). I only just recently realized it was to promote their own self image of progressivism and liberalism. This college is not at all progressive. In fact, every minority student is used as a statistic to benefit their private status and increase tuition EVERY YEAR. If you have the option to attend a state or public school, its a much better option.

I've been student at RIT for 6 years and still love it so much. After graduated, I couldn't believe I am gone and wish I was still student there. I love there so much and never forget all memory.

You get what you pay for. All private colleges are insanely expensive these days and RIT is no exception for sure. But I am an alumni from 2010 and I have been back to campus many times since graduating for visiting and recruiting. Their IT and information security programs are world class. If you want to be targeted by the big names in high tech RIT is a good option. I still keep in touch with a number of my friends from college and I can say we are all doing pretty well for ourselves. We are still possibly paying off some of our student loans but many have paid off loans early. There sure are cheaper places but I really felt at home living on campus. I do not regret my decision going to RIT and I still today talk with people who wish they went to RIT because they have seen the world class skills graduates leave with.

An amazing university on the rise. Increasing focus on applied research and experiential learning opportunities for students. It's a great place that I highly recommend to anyone interested.

I am the grandmother of an RIT student. I have had fabulous experiences with every staff member with whom I have interacted. Although I do not get to visit campus often (Florida is a little far away!), I find a vibrant atmosphere whenever I am there. And, most importantly, my granddaughter is thriving!

Beautiful and lush green campus. The sports training facilities are pure classy. The university shuttles have great connectivity to nearby markets. The library has some of the best collection of books, journals, magazines and very comfortable seating on a the floors. On campus dining offer great food with frequent visits by outside chefs offering Indian, Japanese, Columbian food items.

Not a fan, I went there for a conference about marketing yourself in business. Was there for 4 hours and 1 hour was learning and the rest was a recruiting ploy for you to go to RIT... not a fan when I already committed to a college and wasted a day

They have so many resources that students can take advantage of to really push towards their dream career. This college is great if you are into engineering, technologies, or science. I personally went for photography and all the professor's in my major were professional and some were well known photographers! It was really amazing to be taught by professionals all around. Truly great school.

Overpriced for profit school. I was able to get a decent education there but I feel like the first class they offer should be about paying back your student loans. Although that would probably greatly increase the drop-outs.

Absolutely beautiful campus! Over the weekend, we went for an Open House. The entire presentation was very nicely put together. Everyone we talked to had a genuine love for the school. Students were helpful wherever you walked. Can t wait to go back!

Great school for all major interests. This school also offers great education to Art majors as well (glass, jewelry, ceramics, Industrial Design, etc). I really enjoyed attending art exhibit shows and demonstrations in this school :)
Also, the school hosts "Imagine RIT" each year which cannot be missed.

RIT was a great school for Software Engineering when I went (2003-2008), and I've worked with several more recent students (as co-ops) that suggest it continues to do a good job.
However, everybody I've talked to says the transition from quarters to semesters significantly reduced the effectiveness of the school for SE, CS, IT, and other engineering disciplines. The quarter system certainly seems to have been one of the big things that made it such a great engineering college, and moving to semesters seems like it brings it down closer to the quality of most other technical colleges.

Great place to study, culture and atmosphere are wonderful and conducive to growth. The school has a reputation of being easier to get into, but harder to stay. The workload prepares you for industry no matter what major.

Just graduated with a B.S degree in electrical engineering from RIT. I transferred from MCC, which was a much better school! (Especially for the price difference). Was told by several students that MCC had prepared students far better than RIT for the 3rd and 4th year classes.
