Pricey, but I think the services are good. I have gotten a few really excellent massages there and some great facials. The nice thing is that you can use the deluge shower, the regular shower (with water coming from all directions), the hot tub, and the steam room all included. Plus, you can hang out in the waiting room and drink tea. It is also nice to get lunch included, although the restaurant food is pretty standard.

The only big hotel in Berkeley with class (even before it became part of the Fairmont group). It s decorated for Christmas this year in a cheerful, tasteful way - a couple of trees with sparkling ornaments; there s a corner with a creative gingerbread landscape.
Had dinner at the Limewood Bar and Restaurant. Great food, service and of course, views.
Was married at the hotel in 1998 - it was a superb venue then, and has been upgraded since. Over the years, have also played tennis and used the hotel s spa services, and been back to the various iterations of its bar/restaurant.
A great place to bring visitors, celebrate special occasions or to dine when you want a beautiful view (when there is no fog) but don t want to drive to SF.
Parking is usually easy, whether valet service or self-service; partial validation for dining at one of their restaurants/bars.
I have a soft spot for the Claremont -- stayed there on our wedding night. Even so, there's no denying that it's fallen behind the times. Some rooms are nice, others are funky, service is hit and miss. Still, it's a grand old building in a beautiful location. The club facilities, which cater to locals, are a nice way to spend a day.
Had afternoon tea at the lobby lounge for our anniversary. View, ambiance, service, and taste were spectacular. Make sure you don't come TOO hungry though.
Beautiful grounds. Courteous staff. If you get validation parking is $2 instead of $7. Some restaurants break mid-day so verify hours if you have a specific one in mind.
Claremont hotel has been my favorite hotel in SF area, after the renovation, it will bring it charms and glamorous to the new era. But to keep the historical set like this, you do sacrifice some of the modern comforts from the modern 5 star hotels. But the trade off worth every penny
Really comfy beds, lovely bathrooms and great grounds. Didn t like the dining experience at Limewood restaurant personally as I felt they didn t have variety and my meal was forgettable for such an upscale venue, however it seemed quite popular. Great ambience overall, breakfasts were great and cocktails out of this world.
I called the night before to see about an early check in since my wife had a conference at the Claremont at 7am, I didn't want to sit around until their 4pm check-in. They told me over the phone that the hotel is booked due to several conferences going at the same time, but check in the morning about early check-in. We arrived at 6:30am, the manager understood my situation but after checking, there was no room since guests don't check out until 11am, plus housekeeping doesn't arrive to 10am. I walked around for about 15min when the manager ran up to me and said he found a room for me! He got the staff to clean and prep it, he even waived the hotel fee ($25), free wifi, and free all day parking. I even went to their restaurant for a free breakfast, coffee and orange juice. Now, our room was small, but it was the only one available at 7am, but overall, the staff was super friendly, the facility was useful, I went swimming in the heated pool while it was a chilly 65 degree. Overall, it was a great stay.
We had a room on the 6th floor with a great view of the bay. Luckily on the day we were there, it was a clear sky so we could see all the way to Golden gate bridge. The pool was amazing. Service at the pool was great and the water temperature was perfect. Great experience over all.
Well situated hotel, restaurant and bar in the Berkeley hills with amazing views of the city. The bar had a decent menu and a good selection of beer at a reasonable price.
I stayed here for 2 nights. I rented a room with 2 beds. The service was good. Room was super clean and I also asked for room service. My room had a hill view but I was hoping to get Bay-area view. A piece of advice: Ask for Bay-area view room for your stay.
INCREDIBLE! We had a last-minute venue shut-down when Alexis and her team saved the wedding in one week's notice. Not only were they accommodating, but they also delivered top-notch service, accommodations, F&B service from start to finish. They truly made a couple's dream come through with little stress. We are eternally grateful! Best of all, they treated us as the most important event on their agenda. THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Great service, starting with a room upgrade when we checked in. Complimentary sparkling wine. Very nice and attentive staff. We had a delicious dinner at the restaurant. We are definitely coming back.
This was my 2nd time to Claremont and it was wonderful. The view from our room was amazing of the bay! We enjoyed our stay very much. The bartender at Limewood (I do not recall his name) was fantastic and the drinks were tasty. We will definitely be back.
2020. Perfection is very hard to achieve and the only word that I can drive from being to this place is, to achieve a level of perfection is only set by one's needs.
I have stayed at the Claremont a number of times, but the renovation, which is still in progress outdoors, made this a fantastic homage to the old days while creating a more timelessly elegant common area. The only downside, if it can be called that, revolves around the transition of the hotel's amenities to a country club for local residents. Hotel guests have complete access, but during the day in the summer there is a swim club and swim meets in the pool, and a lot of people at the club, while the hotel feels a little empty. I imagine that when both are in full swing, it's a little tight. BUT the amenities are worth sharing. And the service is spectacular - highly professional without ever being unctuous, and anticipatory, without being invasive. For instance, my wife left her sneakers at home, so we couldn't do the Spin Class, but they have adopted the "fit" program which lends you apparel and other gear during your stay! We didn't know about it, but it was offered to us.
The lobby bar, with its panoramic views, had a limited but solid variety of unique foods, such as fried chicken bao bun sliders.
The hotel looks beautiful. The view of the bay from the restaurant is stellar. The food is decent but portion is small and overpriced, definitely paying for the hotel environment. I got parking validated but still had to pay extra to get out. The parking is incredibly overpriced.
I went for lunch with friends. Somewhat expensive, but the food was tasty. Wait service was s low and the two waiters that dealt with us showed NO personality.
My wife and I checked in for a brief two day stay, and it was nothing short of magical. The hotel is old but restored and beautiful. The staff, every single member of the staff we encountered, was friendly, helpful, and genuinely engaged. Our room overlooked the bay and was very comfortable with every amenity you could want. We had dinner one night in the Limewood and it was outstanding. Don't miss the Caramel Sundae dessert with Oatmeal Stout Caramel and house made marshmallows. The squid risotto was also incredible. Breakfast at the Meritage was also excellent and the service all around was very good. One of the waitstaff at Meritage told us he was about to retire after thirty years, and that he truly enjoyed his time with the hotel, " I get to look out at this view and meet people like you everyday." He told us the hotel has a good retirement program that allows him tho retire comfortably. I mention this encounter because it helps explain why everyone seems so happy to be there and takes responsibility for the guests comfort. The Claremont is definitely my choice for future visits to the bay area.
Definitely be sure to go over booking details. They surprise you with additional fees and say it's your fault for not contacting them. For a resort of this caliber I expected alot better.
Pool is outdated and pool area is in need of serious re-landscaping and renno. (Updated 12 months later. Outdoor pool renno is complete, so now I've upgraded rating from 2 to 4 stars).
The rooms were recently renovated, and feel both swanky and comfortable. I liked the art, and the look and feel of the room composition. The beds were very comfy, and the showers had great hot water responsiveness. The staff was courteous, and went above and beyond to help with my requests. What a great stay!
My favorite hotel in the Bay Area. Incredible view of SF, great neighborhood in Berkeley, unique old school, grand hotel feel. Go to Rick & Ann's directly below the hotel for breakfast and grab the best pain au chocolat from Fornee Bakery while you wait for a table.
