City of Philadelphia, Department of Revenue Review

If I could take stars away I would! These people are the most unfriendly, unprofessional workers I have ever dealt with. Along with the department itself, this is the most incompetent group of people I have ever had to do business with. I have received the same "unfiled returns" letter over and over again for something that was filed MULTIPLE times. Send them 2014, 2015 letter comes, send them 2015, a 2014 letter comes. It's almost as if we can be inconvenienced for their own job security.
I have been threatened with legal action on numerous occasions. Why am I responsible for a department not able to file a tax return?
Do not waste your time. These people are the worst to deal with and you will get off the phone with an issue still hanging out in the wind.

So I owed $43 on my taxes. I decided to let them take it out automatically. They charged me twice! I called up and they were the rudest jerks. Then they made me go fill out form and send it to them even though it was their mistake! So now I have a fill out a form, mail it and then wait for credit, all because the people who work there are grossly incompetent. Bravo government, I am glad you never fire any of your idiot employees.

Horrible customer service, called customer service to ask a question and the woman gives me an attitude and could have clearly told me that I called the wrong department to simply end the call but instead, she continues to question why I was calling in the first place and asked irrelevant questions. Simply horrible and rude. Only call this place If you're really desperate and willing to talk to rude workers.

I don't know which office Miss Mitchell works at, but she was totally kind and helpful in assisting me in resolving my 92-year-old dad's tax problems.

This place is a disaster. I keep getting letters demanding more and more money or else my Commercial Activity License will be revoked. Well, guess what - I'm not a business owner and I don't have one! Messages I leave go unreturned, I just keep getting four-figure demand letters from the City. Shameful. Now I have to just show up before the four-figure demand letters become five-figure demand letters. I haven't even lived in the city in three years!!!!

All they do is pass the buck to the next Department. Can never get anything completed. Some employees are nice the other are irritated when you speak with them, like it s not their job to help you. It s a True Shame.

If I could give 0 stars I would! I just got off the phone with this department and the lady was totally disrespectful and hung up on me. I told her I do not and did not have a non-profit business in 2017 and she repeatedly kept telling me I need to file tax returns for a non-profit. I DO NOT OWN ONE! The customer service is totally disgusting and just like everyone stated how is this possible to have such bad customer service for a department that represents the city. I will definitely file a complaint.

Horrible customer service spoke to a "manager" and she was rude also.. they must train them to be that way.. extremely ghetto and unprofessional. I felt like I was arguing with someone on the street and had the nerve to say customer service goes both ways.. I'm the customer and you are providing the service or lack there of.

After submitting my tax form the 4th times, I think they have robots working in the office. The robots probably ate my forms. Or the robots don't find the match case on the letter, they will automatically send you letter asking the same thing. Please think outside of the box for a second, give the benefit of the doubt, look through the forms and find the reason, let us know what you're asking, and be diligently checking the mails. I know you're busied and we are too. let's make our lives easier. Thank you.

Just like any other office in this city, you could possibly get someone who is pleasant and helpful, and sometimes you wont. People are people. Today, I'm grateful to say, I received the former. Two young women who heard my issues and helped solve them quickly and professionally. That is not always the case but, instead of complaining, I just say Thanks!

I never had a problem, so professional and respectful! I love talking with the representatives! Of course there are a few times where it did not go as smoothly, but everything seemed to work out.

I would give this 0 stars if you were able to. The DOR continues to bill me for a balance that was paid through their website. When I emailed them they asked me to provide proof of payment(keep in mind this was paid by credit card on their website) I happily supplied 2 proofs of payment. I received a 4 word email that says "The account is compliant". The DOR website still says we are not compliant and shows the balance for which has been paid. Our business was denied COVID-19 grants due their the departments complete lack of professionalism, organization and overall competence. Quite sad the only way anyone gets a response from them is when you leave a 1 star review.

I have tried for 3 years to stop my property tax increases as a Senior citizen. I have gone down there and filled out forms since 2018 and still no progress. I do get a senior discount, but when will the increases stop.

Closer to the end of the day they don't answer the phone, instead they keep sending you to voicemail.

Welcome yuppies and hipsters paying $500K for your new townhouse! Now that you supposedly did your research, you now get to deal with incompetent agencies like the Department of Revenue and other such ones I won't name here. Your property tax, 3 % wage tax, and whatever else they take away from you is going to grossly outdated and incompetent government entities that take your money and produce goods and services that are worth about half of what you paid. The other half is stolen in the form of laziness and pension liabilities.

I only waited 5 minutes on hold. City rep was polite and solved my problem very quickly! A great experience.

Still waiting on a state refund it's been like 60 days the amount is tedious... I call but no one can give me a definite answer about this!!

This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I told them that my paperwork was delivered 2 months ago and the representative laughed and said it was most likely lost. I would rate them a zero if possible.

I have had to deal with 2 issues that were taken care of in timely manner.

Worst customer service I've ever experienced with a department of revenue. The person I talked to had a hostile attitude before I even told her my problem, and it didn't take long till she was yelling at me. The problem I was having was Philadelphia's fault, too. If I were you, I wouldn't do business here.

I wish I could give zero stars. I recently received letters saying I owe taxes to the city of Philadelphia. It appears they may have been sending letters to me for months to the wrong address. According to my accountant, they are overlooking the fact I lived and worked in NY for 6 months prior to moving to Philadelphia and that I don t owe any money. I proceeded to call the number on the form, which apparently was the wrong number. I kept being sent to different departments and no one knew what to do despite the letter directing me to them. They then gave me a different lady s phone number. I called the number and it went straight to voicemail - that stated I m not here, leave a message -no indication who she was, who she worked for etc. which seemed strange for working in a tax department. I proceeded to call for a few hours with the same response, during working hours in the middle of the day. I called the wrong number on the form again the next day and was again given the same ladies information. I explained the voicemail situation so they went personally to find this woman at her desk, who happened to be the same woman s voice on her voicemail and doesn t answer the phone. I explained my situation, and she proceeded to tell me it was taxes for the time period Jan-July 2015 that were never paid. I explained that i didn t live or work in Philly during that time, and that i paid appropriate NY taxes. she continued to tell me it was taxes for working in philly and living in NY (western, upstate ny). I informed her i did not commute 6 hours each way to work everyday, but she still seemed to have little understanding. She then told me to send all this information to an their address for review and that they would fix it. I promptly collected the required w2s and mailed it to her, along with a letter with the dates i moved to philly and all of my contact info. I have received zero response from her. I proceeded to get another letter saying I have to pay by a certain date (which happened to be a date in the past). Now, today I received a letter saying I have been referred to a law department since I have not paid. I work for a prominent public employer in Philadelphia who withdraws city tax and i have an accountant do my taxes. I have wasted so much time trying to resolve the situation with no help from the department. I don t understand why it is so difficult for them to calculate taxes on people who move to Philadelphia halfway through the year. Awful.

I got a letter saying that I owe money on my taxes from 2011! They so called sent letters, but the only one I received was from a collection firm. The firm put my file in hold and asked me to call the Revenue office. I have called several times and I am getting no where!

I'd go into details, but I have to spend too much time fixing their errors.

Oh my god, these guys? The best! I went in, all like, yo, I owe this money? You know what they said? Forget that noise! Then we put on some Biggie and they took out a packet of bills and we made it rain all day! Seriously, highly recommend spending all day there or Burger King.

Excellent Customer Service

We spoke with a 2 young ladies today. Initially--Ms. Bus; the other named Mairena. We called to inquire about a real estate tax bill. After explaining the purpose of our call, Ms. Bush stated a supervisor would need to intervene and assured me she would take care of the issue and would call me back. Instead of waiting for the call back-- we called back and spoke with Mairena. By the time we ended the call, the information updated on Revenue's real estate website... I am personally impressed.

Shortly after speaking with Mairena, Ms. Bush called to follow up and confirmed that there was a zero balance.

I always receive good customer service when calling Revenue AND just wanted to acknowledge GREAT customer service... Please extend my appreciation to both Ms. Bush and Mairena for providing excellent customer service.

I received a bill for property taxes with late fees and interest that was paid on time last August. Citibank provided proof of payment and a picture of the check that was cleared and they are still staying they didn t receive payment. So the revenue department is depositing money into their bank and trying to extort more money from property owners by saying they never received the funds even with legitimate proof from a reputable bank. Inexcusable!

Would give this a zero if possible. I have received huge delinquent tax bills that I believe are incorrect and no one will speak with me. I've left messages everywhere, including on my case manager's answering machine. No one in customer service can help either. I have already been fined even though I followed the proper protocol and never heard back from my case manager. I have no idea where the numbers from the bill are coming from and there is zero information about how to protest the bill in the latest letter I received.

I never write any reviews online being that I feel a person should experience things for themselves cause everyone's opinions differ. HOWEVER in this case, im making an exception. You should just shoot yourself before actually believing that the reps are there to help you. They are not professional, don't care about your needs nor are accommodating to your requests. They absolutely are the worst ! With that said GOOD LUCK !

The department of revenue where the phone number either goes to an answering machine that is full or after a half hour someone answers the phone but gives you no answers. One of the major reasons Philadelphia is unfriendly for doing business in.

These people need to learn how to talk to others. Didn't even let me finish talking. Interrupting me, jumping to conclusions. Worst customers service ever.

Surprisingly organized! I resolved the multiple issues I was hoping to during this visit. Everyone I encountered was helpful and (mostly) very nice- there is always one cranky one in a bunch- this is Philly after all. Pleasantly surprised!

Rude employees/telephone agents. Called to obtain information and the tax representative was rude and condescending. Unwilling to answer/provide information and disregarded my inquiry to then hang up the phone on me.
