An Austin gem! Not only is the food really good, but the environment is unique and exciting. The only draw back is that there is typically a wait, but they have a first come, first serve area. Plus, there's a chips+salsa station to ease the pain of waiting. Their chips are heavenly and go perfectly with salsa or the creamy jalepeno sauce (Ranch dressing's hotter sister). The mexi-cobb salad is my favorite; its got a lot of avocado and is a little spicy from the green chiles. The enchiladas are pretty good, too. The Veggie Enchiladas have enough flavor that you don't need meat to be satisfied. Wash all of this down with one of their margaritas- tasty but watch out, they're strong. Finally, you can show off your great experience by purchasing an unique Chuy's t-shirt.

Every time I'm in ATX, I try to eat here at least once.

There is just an unparalleled funky and fun vibe that this place has that makes my food just that more enjoyable.

Chuy's is a chain, but I think that this location really does the restaurant brand justice. The portions are big, the flavors are bold, and it is really what I envision Tex-Mex food to be. I usually order some tacos - chicken is my go to. They are so tender, and balanced out with the right spices.

They also have great drink specials if that is of interest. I really like their frozen margs - multiple flavors and you can probably mix and match. From what I remember, they also have a very affordable HH. During HH, they have an open Nacho bar (usually to snack on as well if you're waiting for a table). The Nacho bar is always a hit for me since I can sip on a drink outside and have some nachos while I wait.

Great place - Always recommend.

We love Chuy s but the last visit on Saturday, May 30th, was horrible.

We were told the wait would be 15 minutes, we ended up waiting over 40 minutes and having to sit outside the front of the restaurant and ordering through the bar

As I placed the order, the lady working was rude and condescending not only to me but to other customers as well.

On top of that, she charged me three times for my order meaning I have to waste time and fight the extra two charges.

Would try another location

Eclectic atmosphere at the original Chuys. This one is definitely the best of the bunch - the hubcap room and fish room are uniquely ATX and help the drinks flow. Happy hour is great - margaritas are cheap and there's a free chip/salsa/queso/guac bar. Don't fill up too much though because the main dishes are massive! For ~8 bucks you can get a full plate of top quality Tex-Mex full of spice and flavor. Try the Stuffed Poblano, it's fantastic! If you take out of towners here make sure to tell them about the Bush twins - it'll cap off a perfect experience.

Michael was our server. He was bery attentive, polite and although it was EXTREMELY busy, he took time to take some pics of the bday girl without hesitation!! Great service, Chuys should be glad to have such competent staff!! Thanks again, Michael!!

I did not like the treatment that the waitress Casey gave me. She is not attentive to the client, she throws things at the table and is arrogant. I will not return to this place to eat, I do not want her to treat me like this again. I am paying for a service at least she should be courteous and kind.

It was fun getting to check out the original Chuy's, although the experience was largely the same as every other one I've gone to. I guess that's a good thing?

Good food and good service, but it's way noisier than most restaurants in the Austin area. Hard to have a good conversation and we were ready to get out of there once we were done with our food.

Once again, I disagree with most people. Big surprise. I ate at the Chuy's at 183/Duval a few years ago because some friends wanted to go. A thirty-minute wait and vomit-worthy food does not a happy Catherine make. It also does not an Austin institution make, at least not in my mind. How can you have terrible food and still be considered the top cock of Austin Tex-Mex? See the last paragraph for my theory.

A few weeks ago I decided that I wanted to give Chuy's another go. Perhaps I went on an off day. Maybe the Chuy's I went to the first time stinks but the others are good. So many people in this city love Chuy's so much, that that must have been the case, I thought. So I finally decided the other day to throw my money away and give Chuy's a try for lunch.

I'd like to stress that this review is only about the food. I cannot comment on the service, decor, ambiance or parking at this location, as I had my food delivered to my office by Eat Out In.

I ordered the Comida Deluxe (2 cheese enchiladas, 1 crispy beef taco, 2 chicken flautas, and chile con queso).

I was excited when the delivery guy handed me a sizeable bag of tortilla chips, but my excitement quickly faded, as if I had been chewing Fruit Stripe gum, when I saw the piddly 2-oz Solo ramekin of queso.

The refried beans tasted like leather and cigars. What the hell are they doing in the kitchen?? Beans shouldn't taste like a ranch. The rice was dry and overcooked, so one bite of that crap was too much.

The enchilada sauce tasted like ketchup that spent 15 years in prison. What I mean by that is, it tasted like some rancid plain tomato sauce and Chef Boyardee had a love child. The enchiladas themselves were bland, and something tasted off about the corn tortillas. I scraped some of the cheese out of the enchiladas and dipped it in my ramekin of sour cream. FYI, I got more sour cream than I did queso. Oh, and the enchiladas were hard to cut through. My plastic fork broke during one of my attempts.

The chicken flautas were the only decent things on the plate, so I ate those and threw everything else in the garbage where it belonged.

Chuy's gets two stars for at least including some spice in their food, and for being slightly better than Jardin Corona.

Perhaps I'll go back and try the Kool-Aid. It must really pack a wallop, seeing as how so many people worship Chuy's like a golden idol.

The food is good, the atmosphere is fun/quirky, and it's an Austin classic, but the Tex-Mex scene is very competitive here and I can't say it's the best I've had. Still a great place to stop by if you're walking the Barton Springs area!

Festive, fun decor and the food was surprisingly decent. It feels like a colorful touristy place that is trying to milk any kind of attention. Overall the service was great and the food was good, especially the salsa.

Flavorful Tex mex. Food slightly above average for a typical Tex mex spot. This place is very average overall but its the perfect average that you can t get enough of. Best Austin location since this place is prime location and always busy so the waiters and staff have perfected their craft.

The food was great, unfortunately the servers look overworked and it takes some time to receive service. The whole place looks rather cool but also kind of cramped. The layout of the place looks like a nightmare but regardless, I had a good time and the food was great.

Great Tex-Mex with good service. This Austin original (looking to expand regionally) is great for people with empty stomachs and a decent appetite. The salsa bar is great and the standard Mexican fare is tasty! Ambiance is Austin kitsch, so be ready for that.

It's all about the sauces. They have the best sauces I have ever eaten starting with their Creamy Jalapeno Ranch which is so incredible that if I was stuck on a desert island and only had one thing I could take with me, this would be it. I enjoy the food though I try to steer clear of a lot of the deep fried food so as not to have a heart attack. My wife and I typically split a chicken burrito slathered in deluxe tamatillo suace with chips, salsa and creamy jalepeno ranch. On top of the best sauces I have ever eaten, they also have the best tortillas and chicken strips ever.

Every time I have guests come in from out of town I always take them to a short list of amazing places and Chuy's is one of the first places I can't wait to take them to. Awesome place but always crowded. It's worth the wait.

The best location is on Barton Springs Road. Affordably priced Tex-mex, great menu specials, and yummy margaritas! The salsas are homemade, as well as the desserts (try the tres leches). You will be hooked! The decor is quirky and vibrant. Loved the staff, especially the waiter named Keith!

The overall experience, considering we were a group of ~14 people, was amazing, and while it did take sometime to be seated the service was amazing. the waiter was super friendly and attended to everything we needed with haste. The food was also very good and worth the money as the taste is amazing and it is guaranteed to fill you up to the brim. Great place for a bite or just for drink, will come again.
