If you're looking for Tex-Mex food, come here. The food was good, the service was great, and the atmosphere was really nice. I was only a little disappointed that the "soft tacos" weren't what I was expecting. Expect 2 flour tortilla tacos with either (or one of each) chicken or beef fajita.

This Chuy's experience was mind blowing. First of all it was a mad house because it was the weekend before christmas and the Trail of Lights was going on. We were told the wait would be at least 45 minutes and surprisingly it was only about 15 or 20. Our waiter Lucas probably provided some of the best service I have had in quite a while. My seat at the table provided an excellent view of the expediting counter and boy was that entertaining. I must say they restaurant was working like a well oiled machine. My boyfriend and I will come back!
I know there is not a shortage of Tex Mex in Austin, but the original Chuys is my favorite. It never disappoints. We didn't make it to happy hour during this visit to town, but did have great food and drinks. The fajita beef is outstanding.
For the first time in a TEX-MEX, I say "hats off" I bow out.
Seen from the outside it doesn't look like much, and inside the decor is quite different, with a style all its own. We were well received and well served. Luckily we got there around 5 pm, because after that there was a crowd outside waiting and queuing.
We started with cocktails (a killer) and tortilla chips plus sauces are offered. Ask for the "creamy Jalapeno" and the "Guacamole" they fell to the ground, in addition they are made of the day .
Then we attacked with tacos, quesadillas and fajitas. Just excellent, the dough is fresh and homemade, the vegetables are excellent, well everything is good. We all finished yet we were only 2 .
For dessert take the "sopaipillas", a very simple dessert, but typical of Mexico, a paste, cinnamon and honey.
I loved it and highly recommend it. They are all over Austin, but this is where the Chuy s story began
My husband and had the best food here yesterday. Compliments to the chefs! Albert was our waiter, he was excellent!! Thank you Chuy's for making our anniversary so lovely!
It was a little too crowded for my taste. The parking was minimal and difficult to get in and out of. Practically no area to wait for your table except outside in the heat. But the food was as good as always! Just wish they had the Wednesday special that is offered at the Round Rock location.
Great food and exceptional service. We ordered the appetizer plate, 1940 calories. The plate is big enough for 2 or 3 people to share as the main entree.
Super busy when we went but it was a great experience and turned out to be alot less money then we would have expected especially for the amount of food on our plate
Creamy jalapeno. You must have creamy jalapeno on your chips and food. It's wonderful. It makes a great salad dressing. I love it on my fajita chicken tacos with corn tortillas.
I was introduced to Chuy s in Round Rock a few months back. Their beans are the best I ve ever had. When I realized there was one in in Austin, my partner and I had to stop in. Same friggin beans! Love the atmosphere. So bizarre! Anyway, the waitress was super duper nice and we never had to ask for refills. We will definitely be back!
No wonder this place has a crazy amount of reviews. I came here because of the reviews and it did not disappoint. Great service, great food and well worth the wait on a Saturday night.
Excellent go to place for cheap drinks and delicious food. They're frozen margaritas of various flavors are perfect for a hot day in between the ACL Festival shows.
Taco bar is amazing and simple. Customer service is excellent!
This place is one-of-a-kind and an Austin jewel! I highly recommend visiting if you haven't before, but make sure to allow time for a wait as the restaurant itself is quite small and tables fill up very quickly in the evenings and More
Gawd I love this place. Been coming here since I was born. There are a ton of Mexican and tex places in Austin, (and those are good too) but there is just something about Chuy's that makes it cool.. It reminds me of what Austin used to be before it got bombarded by all of the hipsters.
The food is standard Tex-Mex fare. Nothing at all good or great. Just standard. Prices are nice (everything is just shy of $10). Vegetarian friendly on several items and all sides. The jalapeno ranch sauce is good on everything!
We had a long table in the back, and service was great. Food was amazing. Ate every bite, if we didn't take leftovers home. Perfection in tacos and ritas.
My absolute favorite Mexican restaurant in Austin, maybe the world! Their "green" salsa, the jalapeno ranch, is the best. And I always get a Big as Yo Face Burrito.
The wait was said to be 40 minutes so with 5 kids in tow we waited. After 1 hour and 15 minutes of waiting I told them we had to leave for our show. She said "we can pull you together a table right now." I told her she should have thought of that 35 minutes ago. She didn't offer anything but an excuse.
Oh my gosh! First of all, the food is amazing, and shame on me for never having been to Chuy's before and living in Atlanta with plenty of access to one. Second, and most importantly, this is the OG Chuy's location that opened in 1982 in an old, abandoned Texas barbecue spot. The character here is unmatched, the service was great, and the food exceeded my expectations. MUST get the queso.
Fabulous restaurant. First time ever having "Tex-Mex". I ordered the "Sunday special" the enchiladas were flawless! I live about an hour away but this place was worth every penny of gas and time spent! Will be visiting again when family comes to town.
One of our favorite places to eat. My girl and I share a plate and do the happy hour cart when we remember to get there in time. Excellent selection and opportunity for us to eat good food (and drinks) at great value - thanks Chuys :)
My husband and I went here to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary....the food was AMAZING, drinks were great, and service was OUTSTANDING!! This was on 12/11
Chips, dip and salsa are good but, the rest isn't fresh enough. It's just cheap food. Not on the list for returning to any Chuy's. Thanks for the service though!
Favorite Tex-Mex restaurant! The burritos are unbelievably delicious and large! They also give you salsa and creamy jalapeno dip to eat while you wait... The creamy jalapeno dip is to die for! Honestly, I wanted to just drink it! Sounds insane but it was that good. The place is decorate with bright colors and artwork as well. You will definitely enjoy your time at Chuy's! Oh, did I also mention that they are relatively cheap as well!! Man, you can't beat them!!
I love the food here! It always a good experience and they manage large crowds very well. The stuffed sopapilla is epic! I only rated the place 4 stars because there salsa has waaaay too much cilantro. Other than that I am definitely happy!
I am a visitor in Austin and developed a serious craving for some serious Tex-Mex. I checked the reviews and fave it a try. I had the steak burrito with all the fixings to go. I was not disappointed. The steak in the burrito was tender and flavorful, the rice and beans delicious. The service was very good even though it was to go they connected well. By the way even on to go orders leave a tip. When I return to Austin I'm heading back to Chuy's.
This place is an Austin staple. It's one of few places that I can say everything on the menu is good. I think I've had just about everything and I have never been disappointed. It is the best Tex-Mex that you can find anywhere. Don't try to More
I have been to Chuy's several times and absolutely love everything I have eaten. On this last time, I went with a party of 4 women. We all speak Spanish as our native language. At some point during our lunch, a very loud yell from the table that was next to us stopped us from conversing and frightened us, as well as others in other tables. If you have even been to Chuy's on Barton Springs, you know how crowded and loud that place is. So after that, they continued to make rude comments towrds us. When they got up to leave, the surrounding tables all looked at us and made comments like "what was their problem?" And "you guys were not loud!" Well the point of this story is that.. not only did love trump hate but.. the waitress noticed how they were being rude to us and gave us a free desert. Thank you Chuy's for hiring good staff!! I will gladly recommend this place to anyone, no matter what language they speak! :)
