My husband, Alex W. Compton was in the emergency room. Our family doctor, James Anderson, requested that we take Alex to the ER where he could have more in-depth testing done.
Our experience was very good. Wait time was not long. Nurses were so helpful and the doctor was very attentive. The results were that no stroke, no heart attack and Alex came home after two hours.

My 93 yr old Mother had mastectomy surgery on Monday, September 30. On Tuesday, the hospitalist, Dr. Ahmed, wrote release orders for her! Mother was weak, confused and in no shape to go home. I had to enlist the nurse and the case worker to talk the doctor out of releasing her that day and the next two days after.
I wouldn t give any stars to this hospital except the nurses and the case worker were excellent. The star is for them.

They honestly barely even checked me out. I was in and out in 10 mins. The meds they gave didn't even help. Went in for an ear infection still feel the same. I know covid is going on but doesnt mean you shouldnt actually care for someone. This is probably the worst visit ever. They never did a physical exam.

Pathetic and incompetent hospital. Warning! Do not go to this hospital for anything!

My sister went to their ER with a high fever and barely conscious. They sent her home because they believed she had the flu and told us to walk her around the neighborhood. We walked her around even though she could barely walk. Her fever skyrocketed and she was going in and out of a stupor (the stage before a coma). My sister couldn t swallow food because she d go into a stupor so we had to clean her mouth out with our fingers. We didn t want her to choke.

We took her back to the ER and, luckily, an infectious disease doctor heard about her case. He immediately put her in ICU and gave my sister antibiotics intravenously. She had encephalopathy (swollen brain) and the next 48 hours was critical. Were they going to do brain surgery or was she going to die? We had a chaplain come in and we prayed. It was like he was giving her last rites.

Later, she woke up and was communicating. She had to do some rehab but she has some permanent brain damage.

I needed a yearly ct scan, I pre registered,a total waste of time,
I arrived on time and waited 30 min to register yet again, Why ?
They need to fix this because they have me in their system for years.
When I got to the scan, the technician was perfect, same one I had last year.
I usually never say perfect, she was, forgot to get her name so I could write about her to her supervisors. I will return next year, as long as she is still there.

Everyone at the outpatient surgery center was extremely friendly, caring and professional. From registration to post op to discharge, it was an amazing experience. We cannot think of a single thing that could have been better.

My 3 day stay was good. All the nurses & staff were very nice and tended to me as much as possible. They are extremely professional and went out of their way to make sure I got the care I needed. Thank you all for the great care you gave me.

Husband was admitted into hospital, the room was not clean. We mentioned a portable potty that had feces dried on it. We asked for it to be removed. I was told that the potty had to stay in the room. The next day I complained to house keeping about it. House keeping noticed and it was so caked o ,the stool was removed at this time. The air vents in the room are clogged with dirt.My husband has breathing conditioner that can not handle this situation. He was placed in his room at 10: 30p.m., he never received breakfast until 11:00a.m. He only ordered cereal and a muffin.

Everything at the 3 appointments I had that day to go to for ultra sound, hip exray and Mommogram went well except for the Mammogram itself. The Technician that took the Exam on me was overly rough and caused unnessesary pain at a greater length of time that was required. I know this because after I Left there in tears from the pain caused I called another Mammography Center to ask how an exam is performed and how long each hold on your breast..as far as the time needed for the breast to be in the flattened hold for an image to be taken and they said about 5 seconds. That Tech I had was letting me stay in the flat hold causing pain in excess of 12 to 15 seconds. It was extremely painful and I will never have it done there again.

I've been going to JW for several years now. Dr West is phenomenal. There are not enough words to describe how professional, thorough and caring he is. His office staff and nurses are just as wonderful. I saw Tabitha at their new Breast Center, which was gorgeous and had SNACKS, and she was so kind, caring gentle and described everything she was doing in detail, even showed me some of the pictures on the moniter. Im 47 and not one person has told me information Tabitha told me. She made me feel much more comfortable and much less nervous. I then saw Heather for DNA testing and Wow! Truly amazing. So down to Earth and so knowledgeable. She explained things, that I otherwise never would have understood, in such a way that I actually learned a lot!!! I was so impressed by this whole team that I went back to work and told everyone to get mammograms and DNA testing!!! I then went to Radiology where I had a CT and amazingly every staff member was just as kind, considerate and really made me feel like the most important person there. I actually walked away with a little gift bag. Finished up my experience with the valet parking. The gentleman who helped me was wonderful, patient and so polite, even helped with my car door. I love JW and will always return. I highly recommend.

Wife is in labor and we had to wait 45mins in the waiting room of labor and delivery before a nurse came with no wheel chair and had my wife walk to the hospital room after a 45 min wait full of contractions. Im so mad and disappointed

I had back surgery by Dr. Mehta.

I had back surgery by Dr. Mehta.

As hard as it was getting surgery, Dr. Mehta and staff did a wonderful job of explaining the procedure and helping me make plans prior to surgery.

I live in NC and came to GRA due to the fact that I have family close I could stay with.

This has turned out to be a very pleasant experience during a trying time.

The staff at Johnston Willis are super professional and always in a good mood ready to help.

My visit was full of ups and downs! As I was wheeled to my room via EMT's (I'd been moved from a stand-alone ER to this hospital by ambulance), I noticed a group of nurses chatting at their station and waved. They all literally just stared at me - didn't smile, didn't wave, I got nothing.
Now let me tell you about my room. Room 325 - surgical care - The door handle is broken. It only opens from the outside if its basically body-checked. Hard. Otherwise I had to get out of bed, unplug my IV and walk to let people in if someone accidentally closed the door. My husband explained to multiple nurses exactly what was needed to fix it - to no avail. My bed. In order to get into bed with out a LOUD SHRILL alarm going off - I had to unplug the bed and keep it unplugged. This means that every time I needed to move the bed up/down I had to unplug my IV and walk around the bed to plug it in, move the bed then unplug it again - mind you - I was there for stomach pain initially so bending over wasn't fun. Also - I couldn't watch tv because the bed power controlled the tv. yay.
Fast forward to the day before I left. GI doctor and surgeon both had me scheduled for procedures at the same time. I had to explain to the nurse that this wasn't going to work - to which she argued that it would be fine despite my reminding her I couldn't be in two places at once and I certainly couldn't be 'preparing' for one procedure while I was also 'preparing' for the other. Don't worry - they finally moved things around once I let the GI doctors team know I had other things scheduled already. That night after shift change I was literally yelled at by the new nurse for not having my prep finished by a certain time. Once I explained to her that things had been changed due to multiple tests, etc. she agreed that I was correct yet never apologized for being rude & snappy. She was much kinder the rest of the night though. Next morning even though my procedure was scheduled for 10:30am, transport showed up at 8:15am and the nurse scrambled around talking about how I should've been ready by now, etc - Yeah, cause I'm a mind reader that figured out I needed to be ready 2 hours early? No.
Once downstairs for my colonoscopy I see my GI doctor, an anesthesiologist and some super sweet nurses that all agreed the colonoscopy would be fast & easy. Everything seemed okay until I was wheeled into the actual procedure room. I see this long throat tube I'd seen on television and asked why they needed that for me. I'm told that's what all endoscopy procedures use. Ummmm...turns out everyone in that room thought I was getting an endoscopy because somewhere between preop and procedure - the lines had been crossed. They had to redo equipment, redo info in the computer, etc. Did NOT make me feel confident in their work but because the GI guy was on his way and the anesthesiologist I'd already become comfortable with showed up - I did my best to laugh it off and make a joke out of it like they all were. Whether or not they actually thought it was funny, I'm just glad there are so many checks in place because clearly one tiny hiccup can really cause one hell of a mess.
Long story short - a couple great nurses that cared genuinely, a couple nurses that maybe were having bad days? Great doctors, bad building maintenance. Overall I do not plan to ever come back to this hospital unless I have no other choice. Between my room being a hazard and almost getting an unscheduled endoscopy, Johnston Willis is no longer the Go-To it used to be.

I wouldn't recommend anyone to this hospital. I have a family member that has been in & out of this establishment since November. She's been through hell and back. It seems that instead of fixing her problem, they've created more. Her Dr. seems to lack medical knowledge of her condition. Her attending nurses are very superb yet her health is declining. And not to mention their switchboard is ridiculously annoying. No one should have to wait for over 15 minutes or more to be connected to an operator!!
Very unpleased

Everyone was great from Eric & Thelma in transportation to the dietary aids. The triage staff and the nurses on 4th floor very professional and genuinely cared about my well being. For as busy as it has been for the staff there they still maintained excellent service and it was greatly appreciated!

Everyone was super nice and helpful. Explained everything very clearly and took the time to answer my questions. From the team at the entrance to the concierge at check-in to the medical care staff, everyone was pleasant and professional.

I have spent 20 days in the hospital over the last month and a half. My family and I have been nothing but impressed with the doctors and nurses at Johnston Willis. There were many days I could not get out of bed and the nurses were wonderful at taking care of me and cleaning me up and did it all with a smile and nothing but kindness. When I was finally able to eat, I was so happy with all the choices on the menu and the food was good. The nutrition staff would call if I forgot to place my order and were always friendly and wonderful. The cleaning ladies were always so friendly and helpful. Doctors were always knowledgeable and never in a hurry. They stayed and answered questions and always asked if I had any other questions. Again, I need to end with praise for all the nurses. They are the heart and soul of the hospital and Johnston Willis has some of the best! They made the long stay in the hospital bearable and they kept me alive.

Before my surgery and after my surgery the nurses was very professional and very polite. They made sure everything was sanitized and clean. Outstanding job with everything going on especially with this covid.

I was an in patient from Wednesday through Sunday following a double knee replacement. Wednesday through Saturday morning was SIX stars. Helpful, friendly, smart and attentive. Then Saturday hit and the place went desolate. Nurses on my wing that did not seem to work in the ortho field. The above disappeared on Saturday. Maybe I should have expected it, but I had never been in a hospital. Sunday was much improved from Saturday, but hard to wash that taste out. They took care of me and helped me so they get 5 stars, but that one day was quite bad.

The staff that took care of me were professional and polite! Dr. Flynn had good expertise in his field and has super bedside manner. All in all, Johnston Willis is an excellent hospital. I also felt safe with covid 19 precautions taken.

There are only two excellent medical rehab facilities in the Richmond area and JWH is one of them. The Medical Director, Manmohan Khokhar and his excellent rehab team of physicians, nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapists and case managers are like synchronized swimmers dedicated towards achieving maximum independence for the patient. Kudos and " job well done my good and faithful servant"

I cannot say enough favorable things concerning my recent surgery at J-W! Every nurse assigned to me was wonderful and caring. And equally on top of things throughout the stay. I felt I was always in excellent hands and never just a number. Special shoutout to nursing staff Whitney, Pat, Meggie, Kelly & Yaris on the day shift. And to Amber and Brittany on the night shift. The facility was clean and the select your own menu was amazing! This was a step above normal hospital food.

I m now glad to have this chapter in my life behind me, however, I could not have done it without the kind and professional caring of J-W!

This was my first time ever going to Johnston-Willis hospital. From the time I walked in, staff was there providing me info and helping me complete my check-in. I had an upper and lower GI and all the Nurses and Doctors were professional and explained what they were gonna do and why. They were friendly and caring with plenty of TLC. I recommend this hospital to anyone for any reason.

I went in to JWH for some major surgery a week ago. Everything from start to finish was top notch! The nurse assigned to check me in and take me through everything up until surgery and through recovery (thank you Courtney!) was fantastic! She was so very nice and positive and thorough. The anesthesiologist was also great (Dr. Williams). Even took the time to chat with us about things not related to the surgery. I wish I could remember and recognize everyone who helped me along the way (hey, those great drugs probably had something to do with that-lol!). Overall I would totally recommend using JWH for whatever your medical needs are!

I have delivered all 4 of my babies at this hospital and I will not deliver anywhere else!! The staff are super friendly and attentive. The nursery took awesome care of my newest baby while I was dealing with unforeseen complications. I will recommend this hospital to anyone, anytime.

From the moment I arrived at the emergency room in severe pain, the entire staff at Johnston-Willis demonstrated a level of institutional professionalism and individual concern that made my stay there more than just a physically recuperative experience.
Medicine well done!

After our second experience with Johnston Willis h...

After our second experience with Johnston Willis hospital we decided it would be our last. We left a review a few reviews down. In that review I did not list the fact that the Medtronic's employee that was supposed to call us the day after surgery never did. My wife did receive a text from her over a week late. It was her job to help complete the installation of the electronic device for my wife. Pretty much not only did Johnston Willis drop the ball on our case they didn't even know where the ball was.
I went to Augusta Health Care for my medical needs. Seen on time in a kind courteous manner. When we were done I told them I had eye issues. The next day I had an appointment with an ophthalmologist. Set up by the people at Augusta Health without my knowledge. I wasn't able to go that day and I promised call back. The next day I received another call with another appointment and was seen by an ophthalmologist. All set up by my care personnel at Augusta Health. Johnston Willis you need to take a lesson.
By the way this is not a commercial. I am a real person and my wife was a real patient at Johnston-Willis Hospital.

I came here to see my mom and I was having trouble finding her room, I was walking around for awhile.. I got to the third floor and couldn t find her room so I asked a DOCTOR on the third floor for directions and he blatantly told me I cant help you instead of trying to help me or showing any sign of concern.. he just shooed me off.... what kind of McDonald s customer service is that?? You couldn t call a nurse or something to help me? He just sat in his chair.. he was a foreign doctor on the third floor (idk his name).. luckily I got in contact with my moms nurse but besides that its a nice hospital.

After a certain time, registration is closed with no real instructions on what to do. The only clue was a *XXXXX number on a placard, but if you don t have a smart phone, that number is useless. Finally found a real person and they said that after hours registration was in the Emergency Center area. Wandered over there and signed in. Why didn t the placard give that information too, along with that stupid number that was useless to those of us that don t have the latest technology?

Despite my horrible situation that led me to the hospital, my experience was exceptional!!. From the check-in to the nurses to the doctor that performed my surgery, even in recovery, the experience couldn't have been better. Thank you all so much for making a bad situation as comfortable as possible.

I've tried to get through to someone at Johnston-W...

I've tried to get through to someone at Johnston-Willis, billing, and I can not. So, i'm going to post a review here, because I want this matter, resolved. I had hernia surgery performed at J-W, 2 months ago. And prior to the surgery, my fiance and I were told that our out of pocket expenses, would be $790. Period. Done. 4 times, her and I, were told this! And that we needed to pay as much as we could, toward the total, prior to surgery and would be billed the remaining balance, in a few weeks. And after we got the bill, call J-W, immediately and setup a payment plan, for the remaining balance. $150 of the $790, was paid the day of the surgery, so that left a balance of $640. Low and behold, I get a bill in the mail from J-W, for a whopping $1,698.84! That's $1,058.84 more than J-W quoted (my remaining balance), 4 times, prior to the surgery and i'm not paying it! I could have gotten this procedure done in Washington, for $500! But because of the inconvenience of messing with DC and J-W being only 15 minutes away, we decided to pay the extra money and be done with it. I'm not going to let J-W ruin my opportunity to get this surgery done for $500, because they can't honor their $790 quote. Not going to happen! Toy with somebody else's finances, because you're not going to toy with mine. I will gladly start paying down the $640 balance, that should be left on my bill. But, I am not giving you an extra $1,050.84, just because you think you can charge it. This is sickening behavior.

This review might go even lower since I am writing it as we are still waiting for the Dr to release my 93 year old aunt after she had an 8 am MRI and they found nothing but we had to wait for Dr to release her which ended up being after PM that evening. We repeatedly asked for someone if her Dr was not able to get back in, to no avail. Majorly frustrated and hard on my aunt who sat dressed and ready to leave for hours. Her Dr was in ER. Emergencies do happen but there should be backup Dr's for when situations arise. All we needed was a release- no change in meds etc.

Went to ER for back spasms. The nurses and doctor were all very nice and professional. Did not have to a long wait or stay and was happy with the Dr.'s treatment plan. The area did not appear very clean, or maybe just old and cluttered.

I called the ER 12 hours after my discharge on the same date of discharge because I realized I was not given my doctors note for work. Sonya, the charge nurse, refused to accommodate me saying that "we do not provide doctors notes for previous visits" mind you, it's the same day, 12 hours later. Even when I pointed that and the fact that I was told I would get one , and they probably just forgot, she still refused to even attempt to help. I, as a nurse, who is big on customer service, would have offered to leave a note for the physician, or see if another physician was willing to do it (some are picky and won't for a patient they haven't seen). So let me get this right?... I will end up paying around $1-2,000 for my visit, in which I was told I would get a note, I call back 12 hours later, and you refuse to provide it to me???? Sonya needs a day off, and if that doesn't help, she needs re-training in customer service.

I called the nursing supervisor and am waiting on a return call. She, at least, was not rude. appeared to want to try and help, unlike Sonya.

I was told by phone it was ok if they didnt have my last test results. Go ahead and make the appointment because they would request them electronically for me after I signed release form on the day of my appointment. That turned out to be a big NO on the day if my appointment from the doc overseeing things. Sooo...I missed work and now have to wait 2 more weeks. Yeah. Thanks.

My review is solely on the nicu. While the nurses there were nice to us and welcoming. I felt they didn t do their job while no one was watching. Every time I came by to visit my little boy, he had old vomit on him. Which brought me to think what if he was chocking? No one would of seen it. Their excuse, they were changing shifts. He also had a couple of dirty diapers that werent changed, which caused a diaper rash. Every time I saw my little boy like this, I was brought to tears. It s bad enough to have some guilt of why your baby isn t with you. Only one nurse was there available to attend to these babies at night. Some nurses there are on their phone or on the computer doing who knows what. Every time one of the babies cried they would just put a pacifier and the blanket holding it to shut them up so they can go back to their seat. When I had a question about when my baby would be ready to go home everyone gave me the run around. I really loved the hospital but the nicu needs work especially because these are the most fragile and needy babies. I believe if they work on better training the nurses and actually held them accountable for their bad mistakes it would be a wonderful nicu.

Just spent a brutal night in the maternity infant unit waiting room. So so so cold. Even in winter coats. Blood on chair arms and floor. Filthy bathroom. Hope I never have to come here again.

The nurses was nice and took good care of me. I did have bad luck with not 1 but (2) beds that I was in! When I was in the recovery room after surgery and was in pain, I heard the nurse say that my bed was the second one she had that was broke! I think she could not raise the head of the bed to make me more comfortable. I told her that they should put it out of commission and fix it. They had to slide me on to another bed in the recovery room to take me up to my room!
When I got up to my room and wanted to adjust my head and foot of the bed, I soon found out that the bed the 2nd bed the recovery room put me on also had a problem! The control buttons was on the outside of the side rails instead of the inside of the side rails (where the patient can see and adjust the bed)! When I told the nurse, she said I got an older model bed! I had to ask the nurse to adjust the bed for me. I spent 1 night in the hospital and the next day I was discharged. The nurse told the head nurse about my bed and told me that they were going to replace it. Well, at least by me telling them, I was able to make it easier for the next patient.
If ever you have to be in the hospital and you see something wrong, speak up! Or have someone else speak up in your behalf.

Was in an incredible amount of pain in which it took hours, after being admitted, to receive medication. Slowest ER experience I have ever experienced. The PA was incredibly nice and friendly, however nursing staff was not.

Appointment 8am. Told to arrive by 7:30am. Called back around 7:45am. Then told appointment is actually at 9:30 am. The Male anesthesia nurse said I would go into the MRI machine awake then if I could not handle it, sedation would be used. He said I may wake up during the procedure. I kept telling him no. I am claustrophobic. That's why I am being sedated. He made me really nervous. Then the anesthesiologist came in. She said I would be asleep and would not remember anything. I am allergic to the adhesive in the circle pads. It is in my records. Circle pads were used. I have 3 big circle burn marks on my chest. They look like teeth marks. I have been to JWH before with no problems . I guess this crew just did not care. I was sedated for the MRI. I have 5 little burn dots on upper part of my back. No one said anything. I look like I have been tortured. I am praying that skin lightener will help.

I went through 3 intensive care units and found everyone from the persons who brought the lunch trays to the doctors. The nurses, day and night, were professional and helpful. When I went to rehab the occupational and physical therapists were positive, knew what they were doing, cheered us on.
