There are a huge number of letting agents in North...

There are a huge number of letting agents in Northampton and over the past week I have probably dealt with the majority of them either on the phone or in person. I have to say though, that Chelton Brown were a million miles ahead in terms of service and approachability. Whilst most of the other agents showed mild disinterest at best and downright unhelpfulness at worse, Chelton Brown were great from the off. Ellie is sunny and personable, thinks outside the box, puts herself out and goes out of her way to really understand your criteria as well as thinking ahead of properties coming onto their books which might be suitable. Noella, who painstakingly showed us a number of properties is smiling and cheerful and even gave my daughter, who is moving to Northampton and roughly the same age, some really helpful tips about life in Northampton. Sadly, the flat we eventually settled on wasn't on Chelton Brown's books but I would have no hesitation in going back to them again.

I'm so grateful to Katie Buswell for recently helping me secure a rental property, due to my personal circumstances she was very sympathetic but professional at the same time. Katie and other members of the team were in constant contact with me via phone, out of all the estate agents in town they were the only one who helped me and didn't fob me off. A lot of effort from the team and myself went into securing a rental property, but I understand Chelton Brown have rules and regulations which have to be abided by.

Worst agency ever. I've rented with so many agencies but like chelton brown is none. Staff is absolutely under any word you can describe. I've moved out and after a week they sent the report which is perfect and still waiting on the deposit... but they don't care about you if u need the money or not. U can contact them, write to them and always an excuse.. It's bagging for your own money to be paid back. Unbelievable. I had a feeling about this agency prior renting and I didn't listen to my intuition and now I do realise is the worst agency out there. Even if u have a problem they don't bother checking. So this was my experience with them. It's up to you if you want to give it a go. -5 * avoid try something else.

We planning to move the city and we found a property and sent a letter to the agency to arrange a viewing and we also introduced ourselves including our 2 years old little daughter as well. (it was a well sized house with reasonable price regarding it's place as it was in the middle off nowhere. It's just a perfect with kids)

Then we done the viewing accompanied with our little one. We loved the place. It has just a god sized everything for us. Not too big, not too small.

Then we went to the office to get the papers to do the booking. Our little girl was in our company all the time. She was a little bit tired so there is no way no one noticed her. We spoken at least 3 person in the office and asked about that property. Then we asked the paperwork and I let them know I will bring it back at the first working day.

Ten the first workday I went back to the office with all the papers done (this time alone) when the lady is just told me that sorry but the Landlord do not accept kids in his property... wow.
So...
They offered us another property which cost almost two times more and have no garden at all... ehm thanks.

I am so upset now. You technically wasted our time and money to do a viewing, work on a shitload of paperwork and then back again to the office just to get cancel it at the finishing stage with something discriminating like we would like to rent a family house with a kids... Is this really a deal in this business?

Service is very poor. They look to profiteer as much as they can. Was charged 120quid off of my deposit when I moved out because a few skirting boards and a door were not apparently clean. I left the property better than when I took it on. Will not be using them in the future. There are much better letting agents in Northampton. Please avoid if possible

The only way Chelton Brown could achieve a 5 star ...

The only way Chelton Brown could achieve a 5 star review is if they held someone at gun point, clearly this has taken place as they have had a couple of them (unless it was employees/the owners). There are several staff that are competent, polite & friendly but the one or two that are rude and have somewhere between little, and no manners, make this company almost unbearable to deal with. The incompetency of one member of staff almost left us without a home, this has continued throughout our tenancy with workmen being booked and then not showing up, or being sent to the wrong address or workmen being sent to do a job and making the situation even worse than before. I would definitely not recommend this lettings company.

I had a viewing appointment for a flat which I intended to rent. Agency guy who showed the flat told that the office was closed at that time already and that I was suppose to call them next day before lunch in order to confirm my interest. He said that details of all people interested in renting this flat are going to be forwarded to landlord and he would make a choice.
I called at 10am next morning to say that I would like to rent the flat. However, to my surprise I was told that it was already taken. I told that their colleague told me to call before lunch... Office lady said that they will contact the landlord and call me back. After few hours of waiting I called the office again. This time another agency employee answered and I was told that the flat was already taken earlier as the payment was made earlier this morning. She rudely highlighted that they would not have waited till lunch anyway.
So I wasn t called back, no one apologised. I was told lies by two different agency employees, the one who said true was rude. Not to mention that the flat advert pictures weren t of the actual flat and I was handed a paper with higher renting price then advertised online. Now I definitely know that this agency should be avoided.

So today the 28/11/18 i should be getting the keys...

So today the 28/11/18 i should be getting the keys to a 2 bedroom house in spratton, iv paid my deposit all the relevemt checks have been completed and the wifes been rushing around getting everything packed in boxes,removal companys all booked for today and best of all i have my own tennant moving into my flat to rent it of me as my 16 month old boy needs his own room hense the reason we are moving.

Iv had to pay the removal company we hired off for there troubles we have spent over 800 pound on new funiture not to mention the man that who was moving into my place who could now pottentialy be homeless because hes old landlord has found someone else.
My partner has been in tears and we are both very futrstrated, id AVOID this company at all cost,even when i was viewing this property i was told to hurry up becase he had another viewing in 20minutes!
I always had to phone them they never phoned me even tell me my credit check had passed and we have a moving in date.
There are much more proffesional and better companys in northampton do not waste your time with these clowns.....

WORST AGENCY ! AVOID THEM ! GREEDY ! RIP OFF !
Let us down hundred times .

Few examples out of hundred :

1.We have agreed we take a flat . Contract paper work payment etc.
next day they called us ' The landlord change his mind , don't want to let out his flat ' The woman on the phone added It's happened already once with him ... WE HAD TO GO TO A HOTEL UNTIL WE FOUND ANOTHER RENT ...

They are charging fees for everything , big amount of money .
- Administration fee 220
- Tenancy renew fee around 75
- Even for a reference of the tenancy they wanted to charge !

2. Once leaking pipe in the flat we lost around 10 litre water / minute . I've called them , they said they will send someone MONDAY ... It happened on FRIDAY ... I said what the heck is this ? we are the customers here and you always let us down .... The woman said ... the flat's owner is the customer not us ... I laughed at her ... and i fixed the pipe temporary.

3. They asked as when we moved in do we want the wall repainted as it was in patch painted we said yes . Took 4 phone calls to remind them and one month when they finally sent someone, who used different colour then the rest of the flat...

4. We told them we don't want to renew our contract we will move out ...
They were be like: 'Mission accepted - we gonna arrange as much viewing as we can'. Until now they tried to bring 3-4 visitors a week .
Last time they tried to bring visitors on Friday and Saturday as well ( Saturday in the morning 9 30 ) I told them Friday is okay but Saturday not ! Guess who woke me up in the morning ? Exactly ... The Chelton Brown with the visitors ... I told them they can't come in I asked them to not come ... and I closed the door.

I could continue the stories ... I have loads of .... but if the text is too long no one will read it .

AVOID THE chelton brown CHEEKY , GREEDY , THIEVES

Sales guy said he would not accept my viewing for a rental because I have been self employed for less than 6 months and he would not accept 6 months rental in advance. Highly disappointing to the point of being rude.

Getting rental accommodation they are good and fast but when you decide to leave at the end of a tenant agreement they will try to take all your deposit, looking for faults some very ridiculous unnecessary things. So annoyed!!!

We traveled from a different city to view it and right after the viewing they tell us we can't move in because we are students (?) Wasted time and hopes, very unprofessional.

To be fair they were good when we were paying them money but when it come to us wanting to end our agreement it was a different story! No communication, very unhelpful and if I ever had to rent a property again it wouldn't be with Chelton Brown.

During our rental of 20 months thie house had a le...

During our rental of 20 months thie house had a leak in one of the bedrooms, which the cowboys they sent tried to seal the roof with a variety of innovative repairs.

During our rental the floors on upper floor all needed replacement as the floor boards were cracking which resulted in holes in the floors. The "tradesmen" had a very neat trick to store the old broken parts of the floor in the void between the floors, as the waste bin was far away outside.

At the start of our rental we were not given keys to tye garage (which was fully locked) and also nobody cared to help as they already took the money.

Nearing the end of our tenancy we were served a notice "to hand" by an employee who posted it through the letter box and ran for their life to avoid confrontation.

At the end of the tenancy we were even charged for the small bits of grass between patio slabs (which I later noticed were there at the start of the tenancy, by accident as they have listed the house for rent again, using photos from 2 years ago).

We will be reporting this to the trading standards and hope others will follow.

This company exclusively after your money and nothing else. They will try and shave you to the best of their ability.

I don't like anything about them. They say things on viewing which they later deny! The inventory was very late and they have tried to make me pay for something that was already there the day I moved in. I do not recommend this letting agency

Without doubt the worst letting agent in Northampt...

Without doubt the worst letting agent in Northampton.

Don't get carried away with the properties they have - it is not worth the stress.

Be prepared to have to fight tooth and nail for your deposit (even if you get the place cleaned professionally)

Go to Belvoir or William H Brown instead they actually care about their customers.

You've been warned!

I will firstly give this company their dues. Whene...

I will firstly give this company their dues. Whenever there was a problem, they were prompt in fixing it. However, that is as far as my praise goes.
I will not identify myself, but feel the people have a right to know how we were treated.
Firstly, we had an issue with mold in the house. It was affecting us massively. Seemed in the end the only way to fix it was for us to move out for 2 weeks while they did this. At first we could not do this. so they issued us a section 21!
Finally we could, and went ahead and booked a caravan we could ill afford. We asked to at least be excused the rent for those two weeks, which they agreed to.
JUST before we were due to leave they found a contactor who could do the work while we were there. They then tried to weedle out of our arrangement. Wrecked my holiday too dealing with their constant winging while we were away.
Wind the clock back, when we moved in there was a fridge freezer and washing machine, on its last legs. We asked if it could be removed and trashed. They agreed. We replaced with our own resources. nothing more was said after that until we moved out.

Wind forward the clock, we were offered another place (not CB). We had to accept on the spot. So i tried to stagger a month between moving out to moving in to allow time to properly clean the house. When they cottoned on, they put pressure on us to just hand in the keys early, despite us not being happy with the state of the property.
when it came to our deposit, nothing but complaints. Yes, we mentioned the house needed attention, thats why we tried to give a months notice. give us more time to move our stuff and get the house properly cleaned.
But no, they moaned about rudeimentary mess tbh. And of course, where is our fridge freezer and washing machine?
Oh you mean those on their last legs? Suddenly they raised this. Throwing everything possible at us to avoid paying back our deposit.

Theives at best.

Sorry, needed to be said.

As for the frauline who inspects the property every THREE months! To say i found her rude is an understatement. Glad to be out.

Terrible service. They really don't care about any problems you might have. I spent most of my time chasing them with issues. All the staff i spoke with just seemed like they didn't care about their jobs or the tenants they are providing a service too. Me and my girlfriend went through so much stress with Chelton Brown we were very happy to see the back of them. They took a stupid amount of money from our deposit for a cleaning company i couldn't find any evidence of existing. Funny how a member of staff has given it 5 stars to bump up the google rating. Worst shower of idiots on the planet!

Recently looked to rent property in Northampton. H...

Recently looked to rent property in Northampton. Have interacted with all the letting agents around and this agent is by far the worst in terms of communication and quality of service. Shockingly bad.

Interactions with this company have been incredibly unenthusiastic from the very beginning. I felt actively disliked for even enquiring about their properties, which I find utterly baffling, it almost felt as if they didn't even want people to let their properties. The lady over the phone was unhelpful and didn't even seem to know about the properties advertised online. When asked for ideas of what properties they had that might be fitting with my needs, she basically told me to search the internet, which is well... amazingly useless.

Arranged a viewing (with great difficulty and against my better judgement), drove a half hour and got there 45 minutes early. I called up to check whether they could get there any earlier. Was then told that they could not but to wait for them, which is fair as I was early. However a different agent then called 10 minutes before the viewing to cancel stating that the property had been taken. This had not been mentioned in the previous phone call. The utter lack of consideration for my time was pretty insulting and awful. I've never been treated this way by a letting agent in my 8+ year renting.

I ended up actively avoiding interacting with this company as it was basically a waste of my time to even attempt to find out what their properties could offer. Its a pointless exercise and if you see a property with their name next to it, you may as well pretend that property doesn't exist. You will be wasting your time otherwise.

Chelton Brown's process of applying for a potentia...

Chelton Brown's process of applying for a potential property is time consuming and frustrating. I was asked to fill in a whole application and prove my ID etc and bring it in person to their offices. I then lost out on this property as the landlord chose a more suitable tenant for his needs. Any other agent I've dealt with take basic information on the phone and puts this to the landlord which saves everyone time. The successful tenant then goes ahead and fills in the full application.



If I was a landlord I wouldn't even consider CB as an agent... Their Saturday staff who showed potential new tenants around were clueless and I often ended up stepping in to give the right information! I would want a much higher quality service for the money paid. Steer clear if you can and save yourself a whole load of money and hassle.

We instructed Chelton Brown to sell our property and couldn't have been more impressed with the service received.

The staff explained the whole process clearly, answered questions and queries quickly and even when things were a little rocky (not their fault) they managed to keep the sale on track.

They had a fantastic fixed fee offer on fees which made it easy to budget and plan for our move.

One of the best letting agency in Northampton. Very nice staff . Have dealt with one of the office employee Dan Clarke , he is really good,composed person. He gave us proper time to take our decision while viewing property :-)

Make sure you are ready to argue for the deposit y...

Make sure you are ready to argue for the deposit you have paid, they look for any little bit of dust to make an excuse to get cleaners in. They are rude and when they said we have left something in the flat we asked if we could come collect the remaining pieces they then said you are not insured, when we explained we were still insured on the property and could prove this. And when asked if they would meet us there to get a brush and a bin they started stuttering and then changed the subject.
They also give no notice where viewings are concerend and when we asked for 24hours notice, they just simply ignored it.
Terrible experience never again avoid!!!!

Time wasters, poor communication and ridiculous fees. I was desperate to move into a flat but heard nothing regarding the progress of the application after I had agreed I would take the flat. Chased them for a whole 2 weeks only for them to tell me that the property was let to somebody else after continuously being told bogus stories.

They are less responsive and keep ignoring about the complain whether it's serious for us and it's emergency but still they don't give a look and when we call them about the same complain they say we will be doing it ASAP. Their sooner works starts after 20 working days or may be even later. Chelton brown you need to work on your maintainance team. Could it be any faster and responsive ?

We have just rented our flat with Chelton Brown! The flat is in great condition and it was a really easy and smooth process. We had one small issue when moving in but it was handled professionally and quickly so that we could get settled into our new home as soon as possible, couldn't have asked for more helpful or friendly staff. Chelton brown honestly needs to look inward before its too late. Its either the culture that exists is just off or the workers are giving this company a bad name. Whichever way, i would have to agree with the overwhelming evidence on here that shows they have a really bad reputation. The fees are high and they would do everything humanly possible to ensure you do not get your deposit back.

Whats more- i was pushed out in the middle of covid 19 pandemic -no rules or regulations for the tenant was maintained by them and they seem to be the only agent i know who did this- everyone was shocked about the treatment. I kept getting calls from one monica badging me to move out.

- No instruction or guidance on heating system operation - figure out yourself - boiler marked do not use - will it explode or maybe not?

Front end customer service was very good, just seems like once you sign the papers they no longer care.

Truly amazed how they manage to stay in business.

It's not often I come across a company with helpful and pleasant staff and I'm delighted to say that Chelton Brown seems to be one of those companies. Not only that, Lynn Carson went beyond her "call of duty" and helped me out of working hours. Not often you find an employee that will do that and while still being polite and pleasant. Whether we have just had a tenancy agreement drawn up, advertised a property or used their full managed services, the team have always been helpful and communicative. We believe they represent both landlords and tenants fairly and treat them all with respect. Highly recommended for both types of customer.

Worst letting agents in Northampton! If there are problems, staff do not answer their phones (I have been asking to check on and fix an issue, which had not been sorted on time, so assume they recognised my number and kept ignoring my messages). Also trick and pressure you into paying the deposit as quick as possible. All sweet and welcoming before you hand them your deposit money and sign the contract, then the hell starts. Avoid if you can
