For a celebrity chef this place seriously needs to understand basics of food preparation. I have travelled 20+ states and had Indian food in every one of them with this being my second worst experience. Bhuna chicken had dry chicken with lack of seasoning and tasted a bit old. Calamari had khatta meetha namkeen which I had no idea why. The only thing that was good was raita and the steamed rice. Not worth the experience I was hoping.

Highly overrated and needlessly expensive. As an Indian, I can assure you'll that this is the least Indian style food I've eaten in US. I regret visiting this place in Nashville.
It is an Indian Fusion Cuisine. Best in Nashville for tasting contemporary Indian Food, it has great variety of food and nice place for occasions like family get together, friends reunion, office lunch or dinner's and also perfect for a romantic dinner under a great ambience and service is really great. Worth for the price you pay.
Have eaten at this fine establishment twice now. Once during my visit in 2017 and the latest summer 2019.
The first time I ordered the Lamb in a Cashew sauce, a side of garlic naan an basmati rice. The meat was super super tender and the sauce was full of flavor. Eating everything in one bite put a huge smile on my face.
Tried the wings and they were excellent as well. Before we left I noticed they had some Lamb Nachos on the menu and I planned to go back that night to try them but I didn't make it back.
Fast forward to 2019 I was finally able to try the nachos. They were glorious! The chips were thick and had layers of crispiness and all the flavors meshed together. The lamb wasnt that spicy like advertised but it was still very tasty. The chutney brought a great sweetness too it and the tomatoes and cucumbers added a fresh bite.
This dish cools off quickly so enjoy them while they're hot. Would love to try everything on this menu
Wow. Such a wonderful experience. Unlimited choices with the combination option. I went with the paneer and saag. The naan and relish appetizer was equally amazing. Cant wait to go back.
I like the quality of the food served. It is unlike the food served in regular Indian restaurants where you can tell the food is not fresh. Vegetarians have limited options and they don't allow much customization. If I go back it will be for the Paneer Tikka and the IPA with saffron.
It's a fusion restaurant, the taste was amazing. Pretty much everything we ordered were great. Loved the Gulab Jamun rose cheese cake . Definitely would visit again when I head to Nashville !!
Their curry fried rice was to die for. Moderately spicy and full of flavor. Their monkey bread was also very good- like the gooey center of cinnamon rolls. Service was good as well. I would like to return when it isn't Sunday brunch to try their regular menu. The lunch Indian bowls look especially good.
good cocktails and consistently good food. I like the naan and chutney appetizer you can get at dinner time. the class Indian dishes taste better to me than the Indian fusion ones, but that's probably a matter of taste. I still prefer Shalimar's chicken tikka masala and mango lassi (less sweet and more mango than Chauhan's, respectively).
The lamb is really good but the curry was a bit too sweet but still pretty good. That's just a personal opinion being that I'm use to W.I. curry but overall the food was nice.
Recommend the chicken puteen. Kebabs were okay. Nachos were great love the batter they used for the chips. Malia shrimp was also creamy and delicious. Kebabs, biryani, pani puri were well presented.
Great food and friendly service. Took my team from work here for a dinner. We had a great time. The guppa balls are good (different for Americans and I probably screwed up the name). The atmosphere was nice. Worth going to for something special. Dinner for 4 with a few drinks came to 400. Will go again when the occasion merits it.
Delightful Indian Restaurant in Nashville. Great tastes and unusual as well as traditional items with a twist. Always busy so make reservations. A must when you are in Nashville
Nice atmosphere, great service, awesome drinks and food! Little different take on Indian cuisine that just works perfectly. Would recommend reservations as there are no shortage of folks vying to eat here. Will DEFINITELY be back!
Have mixed experience with this place. We were so excited to get a reservation on our one evening in Nashville and to be eating indian food after a week of pastas, burger and pizzas. Here is my breakdown
Ambiance - extraordinary! Was truley impressed with the decor and ambiance. They had causal and booth seating , with Hindi movies played on wall via projector for each booth. This would be a kind of place you would want to book for a special evening.
Service - Great service, very friendly and welcoming. They checked on us often to see if we needed anything or had any questions.
Food - this one was little below my expectations, we ordered kale Chaat, pani puri for starters, both of which could have used a little more spice for a Chaat snack. For entree we ordered coconut curry which was good. It was very expensive as well. Desserts- everyone had good reviews about the gulab jamun cheesecake combo , so I decided to try something else ;) . Ordered the kheer khurma , which was not up to the mark, first bite on that was full clove , which was unexpected and definitely spoiled the taste. I would not recommend this one , stick with cheesecake gulabjamun.
The ambiance is quite nice and crowded on a weekday as well. The taste is not Authentic Indian but a great place to hangout - Will visit again and try something else.
We absolutely loved this restaurant. By far the best experience we had in Nashville. We went back twice while there, just to have the beer and the POUTINE! I still dream about that poutine. The best I had by far. The ambience is fantastic, and I wish we would have tried every single thing on the menu! I want this restaurant to open in Minneapolis! Definitely a must try!
Go and order the mussels appetizer--you'll be tempted to lick the bowl because the sauce is to die for! Really great spot to find tasty, upscale Indian food in Nashville.
One bite of the tandoori chicken poutine and I realized that everything I've ever eaten before was a bland waste of time. So, so unbelievably good. Service was excellent, ambiance was on point, and the food was delicious. Would go back to Nashville just to eat here again.
Dangerous if you have food allergies. We told the server we had an allergy to nuts and were given dishes that had nuts in them. They do not post the ingredients of there dishes on the menu and the food we got was lacking seasoning.
Some of the best food I've had, hands down. Spicy and non-spicy options for everyone. Desi Fare options are by far my favorite. Try the chicken or lamb moilee.
If you are looking for only Indian food taste, then this is not the correct place. Here you can get drinks and all type of non veg and prices are very high.
We visited this place on 12/22/17. We were very impressed by the ambience and were excited to have dinner with our close friends. We were hosted by Kristen who was awfully short tempered to be a waitress in the well renowned restaurant. She hastily took the orders and left. My friends were served our order who were vegetarians and ours was a non veg order!! The server just switched the side and just left our food at our table after we redirected and he was very confused. To our surprise our starter was not served at all!! I mentioned it to the next server and she stated she will cancel our order. The manager came and apologized and said that it was skipped as it was very busy for them . Our entree was served partially... When Kristen came to pick up our plates I told her how dissatisfied I was with her service. She recommended that I ate cheese cake and apologized. The grand finale with gratuity of 20% forcibly collected... I told the manager that in the future when a customer is dissatisfied they should courteously let the customer pay the gratuity if they want to . I had to unfortunately explain what gratuity means
Came across an unconventional Indian restaurant after a really long time. Awesome fusion to the cuisine in a charming setting. The food was absolutely delectable and the service was top-notch. Lavish place but worth it.
As a meat eater i was very impressed with the options available from vegan to carnosaur. Pair your meal with Uncle Val on a hot day as a sweet refreshing drink.
The reason I gave 2 stars and not zero was because the service was good. The food was flavorless and the drinks were ok ok as well. The price was really high too for the overall experience. The ambience is well done.
Very cool Indian restaurant in the heart of downtown Nashville. The appetizers we ordered was the "Pani Puri" and the absolute must.. coconut curry mussels. My dish came out in a traditional tiffin, which pays homage to how Indians used to travel with food. Think of an Indian lunch box. If you want to mix up your eating experience in Nashville, visit Chauhan Masala House.
It was pretty good, the service was amazing but the food was not as amazing as I had expected seeing who is backing the restaurant in reputation. We had the serving dishes where you chose your protein and sauce and they were tasty but I've had more flavorful at a local Indian restaurant where I live. We also had pork belly as the appetizer and it had very little flavor at all.
We love this place so much, definitely one of the best Indian fusion restaurant. We make it a point to stop by this place every time we are in Nashville or passing through Nashville. The ambiance in the restaurant is beautiful, the people are super friendly and the tandoori chicken poutine is the best
Overpriced and small portions. Charging $4 for a very small order of naan is ridiculous. Had to order two more bread orders to serve the table. None was complimentary. Flavors were nice but nothing special.
Food was great but limited options if you keep in mind that its an Indian restaurant.
It is full of American crowd and they take time to seat Indian crowd. May be it was just us who were asked to wait for more than 1/2 hour even though tables were empty.
Fine dining. The gol gappas were really good. The regular Indian food delicacies have been modified a little bit to add cheese and adjust to American taste.
This is a joke of a restuarant. If I could give it 0 stars, I would. The food was BLAND, tiny portions, over priced, menu items made no sense and just an all around strange menu and experience. My food came out cold and the sauces were quite literally watered down. The only good thing I can say about this establishment is that the atmosphere was nice. If you are wanting good Indian food, ESPECIALLY at a fair price, please- go elsewhere. This food was extremely disappointing.
Chauhan is a delicious mix of Indian food with a bit of Nashville. The gol gappa shots were crunchy, tangy, sweet, and refreshing. The bone marrow was creamy and decadent. Their various desi dishes are always amazing, and they have a host of cocktails.
Personally, I would recommend ordering several appetizers and sharing to get as many flavors as possible, and then take home what you don't finish of tour main dish. My only criticism of the place is their cocktails, which were pretty subpar for a restaurant of this calibur. I would recommend sticking to their beer list from Mantra, or trying any of their bourbons or scotches neat. (They really need to get Belle Mead Bourbon on their list)
We loved Indian food and was hoping to enjoy it here. We ordered the naan appetizer that came with multiple spreads, etc. Only 3 of the 6 or so sauces were edible in our opinion. The poutine fries were amazing though! It was also extremely loud
Ordered the chicken vindaloo and it was absolutely delicious! However, do not order this dish if you do not like spicy food, as the vindaloo has a good kick to it. Got the cheesecake for dessert and it was to die for! Also I seem to enjoy nearly their entire drink menu. Great atmosphere and great service! Will definitely recommend trying this place.
Loud. Too loud. It is hard to keep a conversation.
They took a long time to take our orders. We had a problem with one of the orders and the waiter, instead of offering other options, made the manager (or something like that) come fix it, what obviously delayed the solution. This person offered an explanation and other menu options and fixed the problem, but one of us ate while the others had already finished.
The waiter and the maitre were too sales focused, offering more expensive alternatives to the plates we wanted to order.
The food was really good, that is true (except for the tikka masala, which was bland). However, I did not feel it to be good enough to justify the higher price. It probably didn t help that we weren t having a good experience.
We will not eat here again. Too pricy to give a second opportunity.
Great catering service! Chauhan catered a Christmas party for our company (upwards of 130 people) and it went off without a hitch! Kelly and her team were on time and set up was quick and efficient.
Some of our group didn't specify allergies ahead of time and I had to call her three times after they'd left to check ingredients. She patiently and graciously called the chef multiple times to verify ingredients for us.
They were also very responsive and touched base with us several times before the event to ensure nothing was missed, as well as checked in afterwards for feedback. The food was incredible and they can easily accommodate vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free needs. We'll certainly be using them again!
