super nice guided tour, not really my domain but it's captivating

Good for students and uuuuh... for people who don't have a garden.

It is something extraordinary, I visited it in October 2013 and the lectures on cosmology, origin of the universe, the particle accelerator with its four detectors, 100m underground and 27m in diameter, something I never thought could exist, it seems like a dream.
The designs, such as Hissssss's mailbox, the particle of God, the studies on antimateris, etc., incredible ...

Inside there is an exhibition showing how the universe was created and the different experiences at CERN.
This wooden geode was created for Expo 02, the national exhibition in Switzerland in 2002. Recovered from Lake Biel, it was brought here to Geneva.
Must see for architecture and scientific exhibitions

Cern is a great place to visit. I did not do the tour as you have to book well in advance. Tickets for the tour are free but they are released on certain days before the tours. There are usually two tours everyday. If you are not able to get a ticket for the tour you can always visit the two permanent exhibits. I spent about 3 hours in these exhibits. Cern is easily accessible via public transportation from Geneva.

Wow! I can cross the modern day Tower of Babel off my bucket list of places i need to visit. Thanks Cern!

The whole idea of CERN is very interesting, but poorly planned as far as tourist guide is concerned, since they explain many things based on knowledge that not everyone has, and restricting some areas that could be of much more interest, apart from that they charge unthinkable things for the merchan. Passable.

It's an amazing place, but not for visitors. Our tour guide was great, but the tour itself was a supreme disappointment. The Atlas "tour" was nothing but a kitschy 3D film in a cramped conference room and looking through the control room windows. The tour of the original accelerator lab was actually quite cool. The gift shop was tiny and the merchandise uninspired.

A must visit place for physics lovers.

This is the best place to work if you're willing to exceed yourself and bring humanity forward.

CERN is amazing place for the scientific advancements it has made not just in the field of physics but other day to day living too.
1 have been there twice and loved it both times, detailed tours and lectures gives deep insight of the work put into this field at this place.
They also do limited tours throughout the year of the collider itself but you would have to be very lucky to get that, most of the tours are skipped without that privilege.

Amazing place for school/college students as it really lights a spark in people's mind and gets them thinking into STEM subjects and widening their horizons.

They should not start the accelerator because that is what will destroy the earth and not the meteorite.
All the data to date lead to them and it is for something ..
Many world-renowned scientists are thinking the same as io ..
That the particle accelerator will be the end of the world ..
There was a movie with the same story and it didn't work out.
I know a movie is one thing and real life is something else.

The European Nuclear Research Council (CERN) is the largest laboratory of high-energy physics. It is located in the town of Meirin, eight kilometers away. from Geneva, on the border of Switzerland and France. This institute is engaged in elementary particle physics. World renown came to CERN in 2008, after the Large Hadron Collider was built in their laboratories. Which is the largest experimental facility in the world (the length of its main ring is almost 27 km.).

If you like science, probably the coolest place on earth.

To all those who ask why the date of September 23 brings to this place, google maps allows you to tag several sites, among those tags you can place dates as an agenda to highlight some important event in that place, on 09-23- 2015 Cern has planned energy management tests, nothing out of the ordinary in this type of facility

It was a wonderful experience .. I have been passionate about CERN and quantum physics for many years and visiting it had been in the budget for years .. it would be nice in the future to be able to visit the experiments too ..
anyway, observing the CCC live was very nice, even the microcosm done well!

CERN is worth a visit from everybody remotely interested in science. The 2 hour tour is free (must book in advance) and is conducted by actual scientists. Many of whom are not gifted storytellers though. The visit is quite interactive and explains the activities performed well.

The sheer fact that CERN is situated on the Franco-Swiss border reminds me of the Franco Sicilian defence, which is occasionally employed in chess games. The particle accelerators are a highlight of this extraordinary particle physics laboratory, and be sure to check out the Large Hadron Collider. The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has a twenty seven kilometre ring (not those encountered in abstract algebra) of superconducting magnets. Personally I have never been, but from opinions expressed by others, I can readily tell that it is a truly wonderful experience. In a 27 km long particle accelerator, rays are amplified to high energies before the rays are made to collide with each other or with stationary targets at almost the speed of light. The research buildings, which are geared towards practicality, appear inconspicuous and normal from the outside. One would hardly guess from this the futuristic tasks that are performed here.
In literature you can now and then come across works in which the location or the research work of CERN is imaginatively taken up, even if the reality is sometimes badly scratched, interesting and exciting. The crime novel "Illuminati" by Dan Brown does this in a clever way with the "antimatter".
CERN is therefore a place full of tension through and through, which will probably reveal some interesting information about the universe in the future.

We booked in for the guided tour and it was excellent. One of the students studying for his PHD took us around and we got to see the ATLAS control room and hear all about the experiments and history of CERN.
Everything is free and really interesting and they have great permanent exhibits too.
Highly recommended for anyone with a science fascination.

Highly enjoyable guided tour by a couple of the staff who normally work on their scientific projects and were incredibly knowledgeable. Make sure to book early!

excellent!! though all I've done is research and have not been there myself. this is a definite stop in my bucket list.

A must visit for those who are a minimum interested in science and its new frontiers. A praise for the free access to museums and guided tours without having to spend a euro.

CERN - A great opportunity to see scientists at work. I highly recommend the sightseeing tour to anyone over 16. For high school students, the matter MUST be almost mandatory. After seeing the exterior exhibitions, a lecture on CERN itself and an interior tour will follow. With a little luck, which depends on what the lecturer does, you can also see the inside of the big racer. During this operation, a service trench is reached at a depth of 100m. However, if the racer is stopped it also comes inside;)

A place where science for the better of all on earth takes place. Basically if you watch StarTrek the guys working very hard here will bring all that science fiction in to science fact. For the people who think this is a godless exercise how wrong are you. God has given us the brains to learn for ourselves and the people with the best brains are learning and teaching at this peaceful place. I would not be writing a review on google if CERN was not here because it was this organisation that helped realise the World Wide Web and the internet because they invented that to share their science and ideas for free.

Book 15 days in advance to visit the area? Not even 1 star has earned Cern. Unbelievable that you have to reserve here, not even so many people are here.

The main aim of CERN is to provide researchers with the tools necessary for research in high-energy physics. These are mainly particle accelerators, which carry atomic nuclei and subnuclear particles at very high energies, and detectors that allow to observe the products of the collisions between beams of these particles. CERN was my dream to visit once in a life. It's an amazing research center with so many talented people, scientists, physicist and tech geeks who are doing awesome job to discover more about creation of universe. Apart from that it's a place where WWW was invented by sir tim Berner lee.
