This hugely popular limestone cave system lies just 30 minutes north of Rockhampton and is one of Queensland s oldest attractions, having been discovered in 1881. You can experience the Capricorn Caves through a choice of tours, the most popular being the hour-long Cathedral Cave tour.

This leads you into the phenomenal Cathedral Chamber, which has sparkling natural acoustics.

There s also a riveting Fossil Tour, showing the many thousands of fossils that have been discovered in the system, ranging from miniscule creatures to massive prehistoric beasts.

Do it! Now! Stop reading reviews and considering it. Just go do it! Not only is it one of the most spectacular places to visit environmentally, the tour guides are SO engaging. My kids were enthralled. I've done this place a few times now and they keep getting better and better. We camped overnight this trip. Fantastic facilities!!! So why are you still reading this already??? Go visit them!!

Most amazing experience. Our tour guide was marvelous and very informative. Loved the caves,it my second time time.
They need to have kids free tours as the kids running around and being very noisy for the whole tour was very annoying and ruined it a fair bit.Parents should be controlling them but I guess they only care about themselves.
Well worth the visit.

We just did the cathedral tour (well, stuck with a 4 year old!) and it was well done. Good guide, spectacular caves. Felt a bit like something was missing though, like it would have been nicer for a longer tour or more information. But it was nice to see something that wasn't a beach! My husband called and they gave him some odd directions that didn't make any sense - by the looks of it, travelling from Yeppoon there aren't any meandering shortcuts via Artillery Road that aren't on unmade roads. So stick to the main roads to get there else you may end up on dirt tracks.

Great for a quick detour/excursion. Price is a little expensive but very educational. Tours are scheduled so probably good to time your arrival just before the hour so you don't have to wait. Photo opportunities have a bit of a time limit as your with a group. Bring a jacket it can get quite cool inside.

Awe inspiring mother nature at her finest. Great tour guide who was very knowledgeable and fun. To think you can get married in there is pretty spectacular. Will be back for the adventure tour. Ps. Please stock more stubby coolers

We did the cathedral tour. It was hauntingly beautiful. Especially when they turn out the lights and just the music plays. They also have tours for the more adventurist with climbing and small holes to crawl through.

Awesome tour led by very knowledgeable people and quite humorous too, we did the cathedral cave tour and the acoustics in the main cave are amazing, there are also adventure paths that require crawling and very small tunnel traversing so definitely plenty of adventure to be had, highly recommended

Awesome stop for a long drive. Worth a short detour. Cool extensive cave system and awesome summer solstice light in a huge cavern. We got lucky with an amazing tour guide Lydia and were in a small group of 4. Suggest you get there before noon as it was a lot more busy when we left at 1230. As with many spots in Oz the summer holiday/foreigner price was magically $2.50 more at the gate than advertised on website.

Excellent quick tour (cathedral) if you are in the middle of a long road trip (need to book in advance, though). Just hope you don't have a bunch of obnoxious kids with their carefree parents along...

We did the Cathedral Tour and our house was Phil. He was an absolute delight! Phil engaged the kids and adults and entertained us all while educating. He's a superstar and I would cheerfully go back and do the tour again because of his fantastic commentary. The site is spectacular and I hope to return sometime to do more of the tours available.

Nice to know a bit more about the country we live in and nothing is better than doing it from the nature. Good customer service at counter and friendly guide during the tour. We had a great time.

Really neat caves, the acoustics in the cathedral cave are amazing, the staff and guides are very nice and knowledgeable. Fun experience for all the family (7yr old did the explorer and 10month old the cathedral tour)

Beautiful spot to stay, the cabins are mint condition, always clean tidy and fresh.
The staff here are very friendly and helpful and more than accomodating, facilities are great with fresh showers toilets and washing machines with an outdoor undercover area to cook on and watch TV, it's very quiet, very relaxing and would recommend it if you're looking at breaking away from everyday life.
The downside, however, very little to no phone service but overall that can be a good thing.

This was an amazing experience. The caves are spectacular and have lots of interesting facts behind them, effectively portrayed through the friendly tour guide named Pete. There are many tour options avaliable, I participated in the scenic tour and had lots of things to view. Some sections of the cave are claustrophobic so be mindful of that if you do not like tight spaces. There is a gift shop that sells a few small snacks and drinks with lots of little souvenirs to buy.

We had a fantastic tour of the caves today. We arrived early to try the burger for lunch and it didn't disappoint! Proper home made Aussie deliciousness. Our guide, Emily, was very relaxed and laid back about our tour which made it a lot more fun. I managed to konk myself in the head before we entered the caves but I was very careful once inside. The lighting and the bats were wonderful to see and if we had another day here I would love to try adventure caving. It's a great excuse to return to the caves on our next trip north. Excellent work guys!

Of you find yourself in Rockhampton with time to spare then it is definitely worth the visit. Went for the Cathedral Tour which is a 1 hour guided tour and was not disappointed. The tour guides were pleasant, patient and knowledgeable. They were even nice enough to accommodate me when I turned out to be the only person who came for the tour and they had a minimum of 2 people policy. Would have wanted to do the Geo tour package as well but unfortunately did not have enough time.
Best time to visit is during the Summer Soltice (late December to early January) where apparently the sun lights up the cave in quite a spectacular fashion.

A must do for anyone in the area! Our tour guide Nat was warm and welcoming from the get go. The tour is rife with history ranging from how the caves were formed to their more recent discovery and subsequent generations of private ownership. We did the Cathedral Tour as we had a 3yr old with us and there were no issues with them completing the walk. There are countless opportunities for great photos as you can see from my attachments and once the tour is complete the reception/departure area has clean facilities, smiling staff along with various food & beverage selections to go with any Capricorn Caves memorabilia you may wish buy.
