Nice place for a small wedding. A little more vehicle traffic than I was expecting so I had to keep a close eye on my daughter while playing outside and looking at animals there.

Very cool place. I went on a train tracks in the back and it's a cool place to look around. You can find geode's. But the pool can't be used by smaller children. That is a down.

Had a great dinner of lobster ravioli with mushrooms, peppers and asparagus; perhaps a bit too much sauce on the pasta but it was still good. Nicely prepared and good portions for all the meals in the party. Nice dining room, pleasant experience and will be back soon.

This place is pricey but beautiful. I was here for a wedding and it was very well run. I wish there were some defined running trails but I was able to jog around the grounds a few times for a good workout. Great setting for beautiful wedding photos and plenty of space to party. The house/cabin we were in was huge and modern and overlooked the water.
There are loads of geese and weeping willows and a pond and llamas/alpacas and chickens here as well if you're into animals.
Regular spa access is included in your stay (pool, sauna, steam room, + showers that spray you from like 5 angles) and they have other spa services you can book. The included breakfast is pretty excellent, with a range of nice a la carte options (like smoked salmon and capers and bagels, yogurts and granolas and pastries) as well as a couple hot options like omelettes or special pancakes.

This place was absolute serenity! I stayed for a full day - I got a few spa treatments, swam in their pool, used the steam room and sauna, and hiked around. The grounds were absolutely beautiful and very well kept. The llamas and alpacs and donkeys were a cool touch. I also stayed for dinner at Henry's at the farm and my food was to die for! So delicious! I would return again in a heart beat! My only suggestion would be to clean up the debris around the old waterfall area.

First of all the staff was very nice, and we did have a relaxing getaway. But I really don't get why the place is so popular or expensive. It's essentially just a nice hotel, but not like $390/night nice. Only breakfast is included for that and dinner is super expensive. Most of the time, the water for tea in the tea room is lukewarm. The animals are hiding, really far from the fences, like seeing animals on TV. There was a dispenser to buy food to feed them, but it was broken. And the gift shop is generally unmanned, with corny stuff and a few nice items with no price tags. Supposedly they're known for their honey but they didn't have any.

A small venue that creates a cozy, intimate atmosphere without feeling dirty or cheap (attended barn wedding). The cocktail hour and dinner items were mouth watering without feeling too dressed down. And a pie bar for dessert killed it.

My husband and I were married here in September 20...
My husband and I were married here in September 2016. The magical grounds, enchanting reception space, and exceptional service made for a fairytale wedding weekend.
THE PROCESS/(MICHAEL!): The planning process was a breeze, thanks to Buttermilk's coordinator, Michael. There are no words to describe how wonderful Michael is. We booked the venue about a year and a half from our wedding date, and Michael walked us through the process step by step -- many times knowing the answers to our questions before we even asked! Every person we talked to during our stay (family and Buttermilk staff, too!) spoke tremendously of Michael, and to us, that's a testament to how amazing Michael is at what he does.
THE INN: We spent the weekend at Buttermilk with our closest family and friends. The majority of our guests came from Long Island, Manhattan and Connecticut; it's an accessible venue that somehow manages to feel completely off the beaten path. The Inn has rustic charm -- and the cottages and houses on the property have modernized amenities. There was a hiccup or two in coordinating the room assignments for the weekend, but all worked out in the end. We heard nothing but great things from our guests about their weekend stay. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Pony's Pad, which overlooked the stunning grounds.
THE WEDDING: The wedding was absolutely magical. The rehearsal and rehearsal dinner, held on the patio outside the Inn, ran so smoothly. We had our ceremony near Swan Pond, and the grounds were meticulously groomed in preparation for the big day (despite there having been rainfall the night before). The Barn, the site for our cocktail hour and wedding reception, was gorgeously intimate and romantic. The barn's balcony, which overlooks the surprisingly not-stinky farm, has a lovely view. Unlike many other rustic reception sites, this barn is climate controlled and has a full kitchen. Two major pluses!
THE FOOD: Henry's at the Farm, the onsite restaurant, catered our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception. The farm-to-table fare was absolutely delicious. All of our guests appreciated the unique menu that Michael helped us craft. Breakfast was included as part of staying at the Inn -- and the offerings were delicious and much more special than cold eggs and stale muffins. We were completely satisfied.
THE SPA: An awesome perk of booking our wedding at Buttermilk was that we received complimentary services at The Spa at Buttermilk. We decided to use the services the day after our reception, after our guests left the Inn. The spa was clean, the atmosphere was relaxing, and the massages were very, very good.
OVERALL EXPERIENCE: Tremendous! We had an amazing weekend. The whole experience was everything we could have imagined -- and more. We're tremendously grateful.

Buttermilk falls is an amazing place to unwind and rekindle with your loved one. My husband and I came here for my birthday and it was the best getaway ever. We had such an amazing time,we are looking foward to coming back every year. Henry's food is absolutely delicious especially the Peking duck my mouth still waters when I think of it and the spa is serene. The grounds is quite breath taking the little that we managed to sneak in. The staff is very friendly and sweet.

We had the best experience at Buttermilk! The staff was amazing, Henry's was incredible...the filet mignon was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth...also amazing cocktails and the spicy Thai shrimp appetizer was sooooo good! The grounds are beautiful and some fun hikes to falls and animals. The spa was good, steam room and sauna nice and clean locker room. The pool in the spa was on the cooler side (which we liked coming out of steam room) but definitely not a hot jacuzzi if thats what you're looking for. We got the millstone massage and it was incredibly relaxing with the heat wraps and lavender. The hot breakfast each morning was delicious and good bagels and coffee but the muffins and other pastries not so much (croissants were decent if toasted). Afternoon tea and coffee was somewhat disappointing on the pastry front as well. Overall though I still would give 5 stars, incredible experience and great getaway from the city.

My daughter wanted a barn setting for a country themed sweet sixteen party. Her birthday is in the winter, so we needed a barn that had heating. Not surprisingly, there aren t that many heated barns that are available to rent for a party. My wife found Buttermilk Falls and it met all of our basic criteria.
After we booked, started planning and the day got closer, it became pretty obvious that this would be a special event. The barn had exactly the right amount of rustic charm while still providing an updated, very clean facility. There was plenty of room for dinner tables, the buffet and the dance floor. The staff was exceptional, and took care of all of our needs.
We would definitely use this facility again, and we give it our highest recommendation!

My husband and I just came back from the most wonderful 3 day getaway at Buttermilk. We found the place to be charming with a laid back vibe which put us at ease. The friendly staff offered us help and recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the area, which are plenty.
We stayed in the Juniper room, which I recommend. It was lovely but comfy. The bed was so comfortable, I never wanted to leave it. It was a very private room even though it was in the house, with a little porch and it's own exit to the outside. From the porch you can see the most beautiful sunrises over the Hudson River. The breakfasts were delicious and very creative. The teas were perfect in the afternoon as we didn't need any other food until a late dinner.
The only small glitch in our time there was that we had called ahead to make a reservation at the restaurant on the grounds. When we got there that evening, they asked us if we had a reservation, (which we did), but then asked us where we wanted to sit (clearly not having reserved a table for us). We asked to be seated by the window. There appeared to be one table available there. We were told that that table was reserved for someone with a reservation. Since we had made a reservation, we were confused about why they had no table for us and wouldn't give us the reserved table. We ended up going somewhere else and having a wonderful time. It was probably just an oversight. It looked like a better place for lunch than a romantic dinner, which is what we had wanted that evening anyway.
We had a lovely, romantic time there, even though it was too cold and snowy for us to really explore the grounds. Guess we'll have to go back to see the gardens another time!

I've just booked my 3rd stay at Buttermilk Inn and Spa.I cannot say enough about Buttermilk!! It is the most beautiful, relaxing and "guest centered" place I have ever stayed. An earlier post mentioned that she saw nobody at the Spa and Pool, that's the best little secret of this jewel on the Hudson! The place can be entirely booked, but the only time you see anyone is at Breakfast! The rest of the time, feel free to pretend it is your own Country Manor House! The salt water pool, encased in full glass housing with wide opening windows; lets the sun and the mountain breezes in. Too Hot? Close the windows--the air will come on. Too cold? Close the windows--the heat will come on. Raining outside? Who cares, you'll lay in your lounge chair and watch the raindrops fall. The Spa offers not only complementary tea, but also, nuts, dried fruit, juices, bottled water and granola bars. Still hungry? Walk 30 feet to the dining room, there is always coffee, teas, fruit, a sweet treat and granola bars available. Still can't satisfy that hunger? When checking in, we were shown the "Fridge'" wherein sat organic beverages, yogurts and the like. Of course, you are always free to bring any "goodies" you wish with you to the Inn, you can label them and put them in the "Fridge," which you may access anytime. Haven't tried Henry's yet, plan to this trip. In the past the Inn would gladly place and accept your orders to a handful of local eateries. Deli, Pizza, Burgers, etc. We've taken advantage of the Culinary Schools restaurants, and driven to Rhinebeck where we've sampled some of the best restaurants in the Hudson River area. Also visited some lovely little shops in Rhinebeck. The last time we were at the Inn, there was a guided nature walk led by a naturalist and the Inn's groundskeeper. It was a beautiful hike, with a box lunch included. The women running the hike were extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. That evening, there was a special dinner in the breakfast room. When we walked in, we met with and sat with the folks we met on the hike. We had a great time visiting with folks from Texas and sharing Margheritas!
I can't say enough about Buttermilk, perhaps I should shut up and keep it my own little secret!!

I only visited the grounds of Buttermilk Falls and it was absolutely beautiful. Just the fact that you can wander around and see the gardens and animals without staying in the Inn is a wonderful and generous feature. Any worker I happened upon was friendly and generous with information. Lunch at Henry's was fantastic. This is a lovely place, with a beautiful sensibility and mission

We did not stay at Buttermilk Falls, but had lunch at Henry's at the Farm. The grounds were stunning as was the view from our table. I enjoyed the house pasta, which was made with mostly ingredients from their own farming. You can walk a little around the property after eating and it is very beautiful and tranquil. The parking was a little tight at first, but not a real problem. We didn't have a reservation, but I could see it being good to have one, especially around dinner time. The bar was well stocked and some of the desserts brought to the other tables were visually beautiful. The portion for lunch was of good size, so we had to pass on the desserts. They had several local apple ciders available as well.

I got a massage at buttermilk falls in and spa earlier this week. The pool area and locker rooms were clean and comfortable all staff was courteous and very helpful making sure my girlfriend and I were comfortable and had everything we need. We both got their signatures massage which was a full body, medium strength massage. The therapists focused on points that we particularly does as requested and did a great job of relieving the tension in my back. I would definitely go back for another treatment.
