This is the closest emergency vet to where I live. We called because our dog was having seizures and was not in good shape. The woman on the phone was really rude and flat out told us not to bring our dog there. I asked what I was suppose to do. She told me to take him somewhere else. I told her it was an hour and a half to 2 hours to go anywhere else. She just said "well I don't know then" and hung up. Will never even attempt to use this place again.

I couldn t be happier with my whole overall experience with this office! My St. Bernard had a medical emergency yesterday and they got him in the office very fast, they were capable of dealing with such a big dog in a professional way, he felt at ease with the vet and assistant, They all were extremely helpful and friendly, My dog is already showing great improvement just since yesterday! I would definitely recommend using this office and I am switching from my previous vet to this vet! I am highly impressed!

The woman at the desk was very rude. She then took our two pets info and put it into the computer wrong. After telling us it was fine even though the info for the two animals was set wrong she informed me that it would not be a problem. We then received the medicine for the two and of course, since the information for each pet was set to the wrong one, we had to remember to give the medicine labeled to one pet to the opposite. Will not ever return and will warn others.

Excellent staff and very knowledgeable, I am very impressed with there ability to give a diagnosis the same day of your appointment. No waiting a week or two for test results, you get the results immediately upon testing and diagnosis. They check with you for approval for testing and procedures, so your final bill isnot a surprise. And most of all they truly care about your pets and you. Highly recommended!!

Always a helpful and thorough visit. Sometimes it takes awhile to get a normal appointment and is a little bit more pricey but they really do take care of the animal. They offer a very wide range of tests, treatments and options. And if they can t do it they will refer someone who can.

When I called for an appointment for my 11 yr. old cat as a "new" patient, the receptionist was very accommodating and friendly. This was an appointment for her yearly physical and to update her on vaccines. Unfortunately, I had to cancel the appointment at the last minute, only an hour before time and she was still very understanding and was able to reschedule me for another date with no hesitation. When I arrived for the appointment, the desk personnel were very friendly and greeted me warmly as if they had known me for a long time. I immediately felt comfortable. They have a very clean and comfortable waiting area with lots of room and space for allowing my frightened cat to be far away from the dogs coming into the area. I did not have to wait very long to be taken into the exam room and even in the exam room, the wait was relatively short until a tech came in to gather info for my visit. The doctor/vet was very friendly and personable which immediately put me at ease. She was very gentle with my cat and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this clinic and will return with my dog when needed! Although I had heard they were more expensive than other vets, so far I did not find this to be the case with my visit.

Butler Vets Emergency staff was extremely kind and caring (especially Sue and Alyssa!). With the regular phone calls from the doctor and staff, it made it that much easier leaving my puppy there. They were very knowledgeable and would highly recommend any emergency, or routine care to them. I will be making them my dogs go to doctor just from my experience!

I appreciate the kind professional staff for an emergency on Christmas Day. Pleasant to work with and reasonably priced. They didn t press for unnecessary extras like pricey tests or procedures which is very much appreciated. It s a relief to have somewhere to turn in an emergency. My pet has recovered well. Thank you Dr. Wilson and staff!

Minnie s appt. went very well. Granted it took longer timewise, but the staff was on top of things. Minnie was seen by Dr. Allen & she seemed very thorough. I was pleased w/her questions on Minnie's medical condition. Dr. Allen also developed a game plan on how to treat Minnie. I liked that. I did have to call the office & have them email the receipt to me. I also questioned the 2 pills (same shape - diff. markings) but both situations were immediately addressed. I will be calling to schedule Minnie's follow up appt. w/Dr. Allen.

They are HORRIBLE and find every way possible to charge you such a ridiculous amount of money! We took our kitten Pebbles there for an emergency visit because while I was petting her I felt a large bulge/lump on her side. They told us that is was a Abdominal Unitlateral Hernia. This was after the first lady said she believed it was worms. They gave us an estimate of how much the surgery would cost ( they added many charges in that she did not need done to her) and the low cost was $400 and the higher cost was almost $600 .Then they kept calling me back telling me they forgot to add things in the estimate! Plain CROOKS! This is not even the worse part of all of this! It turns out that these idiots were wrong! What she had was an absess and it drained all on its own after I applied a warm compress to it! As soon as it drained the lump was gone! Do NOT waste your time or money with these guys! They obviously do not know what they are doing! I will NEVER go back there again!

Never using again , took my lab there after seeing our regular vet apon their recommendation, they called ahead to let them know we were coming and faxed over my dogs testing , I called on my way like instructed , when we got there we waited 2 hours before being seen , the doctor came in never examined my dog at all , looked at me and said infront of my son very rudly you need to put your dog to sleep, when I mentioned why we had been sent there for IV fluids and to see if my dog had kidney problems they never even touched my dog just said she was suffering and needed to be put down , I paid 113 for them not to even examine her and left and went and got a second opinion at another vet hospital come to find out all my dog needed was fluid replacement and antibiotic therapy and a urine culture because she had an infection in her urinary tract that went to her kidneys , thank god I did not listen to them because they wanted me to put her to sleep and she will be fine after getting iv antibiotics and fluid replacement but they would not even examine her just told me she was suffering and would never get better and needed to be put to sleep, horrible place to go .

I just recently lost my 11 year old Brittany after being told in July of 2016 that he had a inoperable tumor on his liver. I had been dealing with another vet in the area and was at my wits end trying to get help. I went under the care of Dr. Berry and she broke the bad news. Fortunately we were able to enjoy 6 more months with him camping and fishing which he loved. When the time came to say Goodbye to our baby I could have not asked for a more compassionate group in going through this process. I will be soon entering a new puppy into our life and look forward to vet visits and the care your facility gives. Thank you so very much from the bottom of our hearts.

Slightly disappointed at my experience. I called before driving an hour there to be told that I should bring my dog in to be checked after eating some bones from the garbage. She was acting completely normal and chipper - to which I also informed the woman on the phone. When I arrived and saw the vet, he would not take an x-ray and told me just to monitor her and wait for the bones to pass. I asked him if he would please take an x-ray and he said it would "not change his diagnosis" to simply monitor the dog. I ended up spending $110 for him to tell me this. Very disappointed.

The staff was wonderful! I had to put down my furry friend of almost 14 years. The staff was so sympathetic, supportive and understanding. They took care of everything and made such a difficult time a little bit easier. They even followed up with a card signed by everyone in the office. Very impressed and will continue to go here!

I took my kitten there on an ER. I was called at 2 am and 8 am. Both of which telling me how great he was doing. I was then told he would be coming home this evening. At 4 pm I called to see when I could pick him up. They stated he wasn t ready due to not being weaned off the pain meds yet. I explained, having worked in the medical field he had not been under there care long enough for that to be needed. Once rudely told I could pick him up, I was told I would have to pay an additional $213.00. Then was hung up on. Upon being escorted to a room, which was filthy, I was charged $190 for an x-ray which he didn t need. They take advantage of your emotions to charge extra and try to keep your animal longer as well. I would NEVER recommend this vet. 2 phone calls and NO ONE mentioned additional fees. $410 I was overcharged. Sad. Very sad.

I would never recommend this place. They paid absolutely no attention to our pets symptoms treated her for something she didn't have. After getting a lot worse in a week we took her back they scolded us gave her more meds still ignoring her symptoms and passing us off to move on to the next pet as fast as possible. We took her to another vet the next day but it was too late to save her. We lost our little friend who could have been saved if they would have cared. We are so devastated.

I will NEVER bring another one of my pets here EVER again. We had brought our dog in due to stomach issues and Long story short it s been 3 weeks and they have not gotten us our test results back from her fecal sample. This is because the lab keeps not taking enough of a sample to test. And what they are testing for she is being treated for in the medication they gave us. We have taken in 4 different samples to them. And nothing has been done for her. I m highly disappointed in our visit here.

Set up an appointment for my mother in law to boar...

Set up an appointment for my mother in law to board our puppy for 2 nights. When originally making the appointment we were to pick our puppy up between 9-10am. Not more than a day after booking the appointment I had called to change our pick up time to 5-6pm. The receptionist was very kind and told me it was no big deal and got it all figured out. Come the day to pickup and they gave my mother in law a very difficult time, claiming we had never called and that it was our fault. Charged us the extra money due to their lack of communication.
As a vet they've always had our buisness but as a place to board absolutely not. Honestly very disappointed over this experience.

Let me start out by saying the only reason this place has one star is because of the sweet receptionist and the medical technicians. I brought my kitten here one day because she had been very lethargic, not responding to stimuli and not been eating or drinking for about 3 days and we were getting concerned. The medical technician was very nice, but Dr. Harvey did not seem to know what was wrong with her. They first took her temp and she did not have a fever, indicating no infection. He thought maybe she was just stressed because we had just brought a new kitten into our home, but he immediately recommended a blood test (which was $130) and would not explain the reason for wanting it, so we refused. Instead, he gave her fluids and gave us AD food to give to her in a syringe. They told us to come back if she threw up within 24 hours of getting the fluid, and also told us the fluid shouldn t go down until after 24 hours. There were also no directions given to us on how much AD food give our kitten. He immediately recommended blood work (which is $130), which we didn t know why we needed and he didn t explain it. When we got home, her fluid went down in about an hour and gave her the AD food in the syringe. We gave our kitten the food that night as well and she was still acting the same as before we brought her. The next day she was getting worse. We fed her in the morning and a few hours later she was throwing up (which the vet said was not normal) multiple times and having diharrhea. We went back to Dr. Harvey when this started happening (the next day) and he again insisted blood work. We agreed to do the blood work because our kitten s health was declining, but he found nothing from if (he was supposedly looking for a virus even though the temperature was normal and there was sign she could have had a virus). With the results being negative from the blood test, he guessed that she had a stomach ulcer WITH NO EXPLANATION AS TO WHY and no evidence (could have done an ultrasound, etc.). He gave us a medication to help with stomach ulcers, diharrhea, and vomiting. When we asked when we should come back if she kept getting worse, he responded You know your cat better than I do, so whatever you think is best. KEEP IN MIND, she is not moving, not drinking, extremely lethargic, and not responding to much... how much worse is enough to bring her back? Until she s dead? To top it off, they tried to charge us $30 extra dollars for the wrong medicine, and my boyfriend caught it (thank God) and corrected their mistake. The Dr. had no empathy, but at least the med techs were nice. With no instruction and not even a real diagnosis, we went home and called another vet to get a second opinion. We brought our cat to this vet a few hours later and they did a very thorough checkup of her and found she had a temperature, so that changed her course of treatment entirely! The other vet also told us we should have been mixing our AD food with water, something Dr. Harvey apparently thought wasn t important to tell us. The other vet is now accurately and effectively treating our kitten and gave us so much information and answered our questions, while this guy can t even figure out what s wrong with our kitten and got a whopping $426 bill from us for nothing. Shoutout to Slippery Rock Veterninary Hospital for scheduling an appointment with our kitten quickly after this fiasco, correcting another vet s careless mistakes, and showing compassion to our baby and doing everything they could to save her.

This place is discriminatory and would not let me in the building despite my agreement to wear a mask because I tried to reschedule my appointment because i told them I had some stomach discomfort. They informed me they could not reschedule for several weeks due to being booked up, so I said I d keep the appointment. They offered to see my puppy alone while refusing to let me in, however I have a nine week old puppy and I wanted to be there to assure him everything was going to be okay, instead of handing him to some strange person who was gonna jail needles into him. I spoke to the office manager who agreed that I could come in if they took my temp. I agreed. She called me back 20 mins later after letting me sit in my car 20 mins past my appointment time and told me the vet would not allow me in. Take your money elsewhere! This place is a joke!

Our boy Diesel had been having a hard time urinating. After a rough experience at Avets in Monroeville, we took him to Butler Veterinary. We are absolutely over the moon with their staff. Diesel is a Pit Bull and gets extremely anxious and vocal. Sarah, came out to get him and never once made us feel any sort of way about our dog. When she said to him, "don't worry buddy, we're all Pittie lovers in here," I knew he was going to be in excellent hands. They're quick, extremely honest, explain everything in detail, and the most friendly bunch you'll ever meet. Diesel walked out smiling from ear to ear. Gotta' love that Pit Bull smile! We were home within an hour of arriving. I'd recommend Butler Veterinary a million times over.

We took our 13-year-old chocolate lab to two different veterinary clinics. One of the clinics suggested surgery as an option. The other clinic suggested euthanasia. Upon recommendation from the second clinic we decided to take Aiden to Butler Veterinary Associates. The staff was extremely efficient, professional, knowledgeable and took the time to explain what was going on to us. Amber was our technician Dr. Berry was our doctor. Amber was very caring attentive and understood our dilemma with oral medication. Dr. Berry was able to dumb down the diagnosis in a way we could understand it. The diagnosis was heart disease which is treatable with medication. If I could give 10 stars I would. Thank you so much for taking care of Aiden. That evening we began to notice in improvement with him. Knock on wood, we hope his recovery continues. This visit could not have went smoother.

On 1/20/20, our 14 year old Boxer mix Brady suddenly bloated up. It was 9:30 p.m. and we immediately rushed him to Butler Veterinary Associates, about a 30-minute drive for us. They saw him immediately and after x-raying him, they discovered that his stomach had turned and also had tumors in his stomach cavity and an enlarged liver. Just two weeks prior, our local veterinarian diagnosed him with mast cell cancer. Unfortunately emergency surgery to turn his stomach wasn't a viable option but thanks to the wonderful compassionate staff at Butler Veterinary Associates, Dr. Wilson along with techs Sarah and Amanda, they were able to end his suffering and peacefully help him pass. They went above and beyond, and even made a plaster cast of his paw, which means the world to us. They were a Godsend and true Angels at an extremely difficult time and we'll be forever grateful that they were there and open when we needed them.

Called for emergency vet apt for my pug, who was having trouble walking. Was given a regular apt at 1240 because there was a cancelation. That was about the earliest I could drive there anyways, so I accepted. I waited in the room 20 minutes, without being seen. I had a 5-10 minute exam where I was told we would just give her some meds/pills. I already told them my pug wouldn t take any pills but I was told I ll have to make it work. Then I waited in the room for 30 minutes-ish without anyone coming in. I had agreed to do an ear test because the vet mentioned a possible ear infection. Unrelated to the emergency of my dog not wanting to walk. They also quoted me a heart worm test which I denied, heartworm was never mentioned in the exam room...only given on a quote sheet with prices of a few things. After 30 minutes I had enough and tried to pay for services rendered and go to PVSEC for treatment. A $53 office visit and a $15 ear test. The young girl at the front desk was full of attitude and I was told her Patience was waning. Awful customer service. Would not go back for that reason alone. Manager came and apologized and took the price of the pills off my bill (the ones I never received and told them I couldn t use.) I paid for a full office visit and ear test thing. Idk. I would not go back, and would not recommend to others. In the market for a reliable veterinarian near Slippery Rock.

After a bad experience in the beginning of my dogs...

After a bad experience in the beginning of my dogs lives I only see 2 vets in this office. I mostly stick to the one who knows my dogs very well and I love her as she's very knowledgeable and frugal. She understands what it is like to live within means and reality of pets lives. They are family but also not here to make us poor. They are our loving companions but how much do you spend before it is to much. Dr Berry is to the point but will make sure you understand what is going on or happening.

I've been a client here for 15 years with my dogs i have now. Before that probably at least 5 with our dog before. The employees are all compensate and truly love animals. My dog before was unfortunately hit and the compassion of everyone during that time was definitely needed. After putting him to sleep couple weeks later received a card and his paw print. Recently same thing except cancer and was same treatment. When our dog had pups and I had to go to another facility for mastitis at er because at the time they didn't have emergency service but after the night I brought her to BVA to finish the treatments.

My dog, Heinz, had multiple seizures Sunday night. Our normal vet was closed. We rushed him here. They said he needed to stay. Then a lady came in with paperwork and they wanted $950 down. I was in a bad accident in Feb. I was life flighted, unable to walk for months, and still unable to go back to work. We don't have $950. I couldn't get ahold of anyone for help at midnight. My dog was bleeding and I called my vet at 4 he couldn t see her til the next day. I called butler vets around 6 cause the bleeding got worst. They said they couldn t see her til 930. And was told to go thru er and it would cost 125 before any services would be performed. I agreed. The tech came in and took the information. The dr came in and informed what it might be. But had to take X-rays blood work it would cost 475. I agreed. Came back and said she had to have emergency surgery or she would die. They came in with the cost for two surgeries I agreed to one that was important. The cost was 1750.00 for visit test and surgery. I was told the cost included medicine surgery three days of staying. Everything went well so I picked her up in a day and half. Thinking I would get a refund since she was only there for a day and a half. Got there and was informed I owed an additional cost of 285. I ask why I was told that . She said the original cost was 2800 I told her no cause she didn t get the extra surgery. Then was told it was 2300. I ask for the original paperwork someone went and crossed Out the 2800 and put in 2042. Ask for manager and she was very rude and told me that my dog was alive and that services were rendered. I will never use this place again. I was told one thing and then when I went to pick her up was told another. I even paid the 1750 on the spot. I feel they used your emotions for your pet.

My one year old lab mix, Porter, has been a patien...

My one year old lab mix, Porter, has been a patient there since we got him at 10 weeks. He has always liked going to the vet for checkups. I say that because it stood out to me as odd that he would just sit there so calm during checkups. He has also boarded there since he was very young. I got him bathed and his nails trimmed every time. A few months back, they started telling me he was giving them trouble during his nail trims. He peed on them, expressed his anal sacks and tried to bite them. The tech I spoke with apologized that they couldn't give him his bath so they'd credit me the next time.
I recently was in for his shots and his one year physical. He was terrified. He wouldn't let the vet touch him. They had to muzzle him. Then, at my suggestion, they took him out of the room as I thought maybe he's actually behave better apart from me. Then, the vet and tech tried to counsel me on how I might be able to settle him down. Maybe bringing him in just to visit on occasion.
I don't know what happened. Something happened. Yet, he needs his care - updates -and I need a place to him to kennel when we are away.
Otherwise, he is very friendly. He is around two toddlers, another dog and has no issues. We touch his ears and feet and he is perfectly fine with all of it.
But, NOW, he does not like the vet.

A review seems to be what "makes or breaks" a business these days. Which is unfortunate, since sometimes things don't always go to plan on any given day. Please bear in mind that this IS animal medicine. I had brought my dog here when she was 2yrs old. She would ANNUALLY have re-occurring allergies starting in February. Weirdest thing ever. After 4 consecutive years and numerous doses steroids and antibiotics, the vet I was working with recommended that we take her to a specialist (Pittsburgh). I wasn't convinced that this was Actually a thing, so I took her to the next best vet in Butler for a 2nd opinion.
My feelings of disappointment came from the fact that there were no complete findings. I never had any problems with the staff, they were always supportive and informational. As for the Doctors, my case was extreme. It would have been nice to have MORE of an explanation. They did everything in their means to assist me the best that they could.
I won't argue that it is very expensive to treat an animal. I paid well over $200.00 a visit during her flare ups and still had the regular visits, vaccines, for the year. It certainly does add up!
As a pet owner do your homework. Sometimes it's not easy making decisions or hearing that the pet has life long ailments.
We had to euthanize our dog due to complications of allergies. She was 12 yrs old.
Overall I would recommend this office for regular pet maintenance.

Very nice staff and prompt with my appointment. They re doing curbside service right now, February 2021. When you arrive, you call from your car and get checked in. Then you talk to a tech on the phone about what s going on with your pet. You then drop your pet off with a tech at the front door then wait in your car. A tech or a vet will then call you when they re with you pet and you can discuss things then. The vet was very patient with me as I had a lot of questions. I had meds filled there and they were handed to me with my pet at the door when they were all done, and I m on my way. Payment was over the phone too. Great experience overall

The visit went well. The staff was courteous. Tara, the tech, was very friendly & efficient - she seemed to have a genuine caring for Oscar, my cat. Dr. Kennedy answered all my questions & addressed every concern during the visit. Everyone was quite timely with all procedures.

Dr. Harvey and his staff are wonderful. They are patient, caring and very knowledgable. They are great with out three German Shepherds.
They are also very compassionate, several years ago, I had to let one of my fur babies cross over the rainbow bridge. although it is very hard, they were there however they could to help me. I thank them for that.
I would not take my fur babies anywhere else.

I have been taking my pets to this vet for nearly ...

I have been taking my pets to this vet for nearly 20 years. It used to be that they knew me when I called and cared about my pets. Since they became an emergency center, that all changed. I have been increasingly frustrated with the rotating doctors and staff, ridiculous prices, and product pushing. But recently, I called because my three dogs were vomiting and had diarrhea for a few days and I was worried. I explained the situation and the person on the phone said we don t have a regular appointment until next week.... so you can wait, or bring them for an emergency visit at $113 per pet . I was so stunned I said I d call back and hung up. There was NO concern for the dogs, their symptoms or the duration of them... just the cold recital of words she probably says 100 times a day. WOW! How about you help me determine if I HAVE a potential emergency???
I did not take them, they recovered and all is well. I will be looking for a new vet for our six pets. If it was possible to give negative stars, I would.

Our experience:

Drive an hour to get here from pittsburgh. Call and wait outside for someone to let us in. They take FOREVER to call back then tell us that we have to reschedule b/c WE were late...Extremely unprofessional. You lost another customer.
